Dogs were called names (bitches) and spoken to in ways that I found completely unacceptable for a business whose entire reputation is supposed to revolve around caring for animals. When I was first hired, the staff did not give me the required safety and training video. From my experience, there was no apparent urgency to make sure I actually received or completed the training before being put to work. It came across to me as pure, unadulterated laziness and negligence. The treatment of employees was just as disturbing. We were not allowed to sit down, even during long periods of physically exhausting work. I eventually passed out on the concrete floor in the large-dog section. When I fell, my eyeglasses went into my face so hard that they left a visible indentation and caused bleeding. One of the moments that really shocked me was when I specifically asked what I was supposed to do if dogs got into a fight. I expected a clear answer or established safety procedure, especially in a workplace responsible for supervising groups of dogs. Instead, the response I received was essentially, "Shit, I don't know." That was extremely concerning to me. When you're responsible for multiple dogs in an environment where fights can happen, employees should know exactly what protocol to follow before an emergency occurs. Being met with "I don't know" when asking a basic safety question made me question how prepared the staff actually were to handle a serious incident. The incident was visible on camera, and a coworker's mother witnessed what happened through the camera footage. Despite the seriousness of what happened, I received no meaningful assistance. Instead, when I regained consciousness and attempted to get out of the pen on my own, the dogs got out. Rather than checking whether I was injured or making sure I was okay after literally passing out and hitting my face, the focus was on the dogs having "escaped." I was then told to take a ten-minute "break." The entire response made me feel as though they believed I was exaggerating or faking what had happened rather than dealing with an actual medical incident. The owner's retarded son was present during the incident and, in my experience, did nothing to assist me. There were also serious concerns about the way people were treated. I personally experienced and witnessed behavior that I considered racially insensitive and discriminatory, and I found the owner's conduct toward certain people deeply bigoted and unacceptable. These are not the values I would expect from a workplace or a business serving the public. I would strongly encourage anyone considering employment here or dropping off your animals, to ask detailed questions about employee and pet safety, breaks, incident procedures, and how both employees and animals are treated when nobody is watching. Additionally, Neil (if currently employed at this location) is in desperate need of some proper oral hygiene. Perhaps a trip to the orthodontist, or the use of this Listerine (the strongest I could find) that I've attached below. No one should have to deal with that torture in the workplace.
