It seemed he understood the urgency of my families financial crisis. He appeared to our home with Bruce Hackett, his father in-law, and the State Lead Abatement Trainer, to do a walk through and sell the job, which gave him another layer of legitimacy. We hired them. We paid the 1/2 of the total bid cost up front, per his contract, and against the State of Maine Attorney Generals law to only pay 1/3 of contracts above $3000. After a week he and his worker appeared and in three weeks only worked 1 full day and two half days. So many reasons why they could not appear consistently: "We are waiting on our suits to arrive"; "My worker and his girlfriend broke up and he's stuck in MA"; "My worker caught RSV and is in the emergency room"; "I need to leave early to attend my daughter's PTC". They scraped one side of the house and stated it was paint ready, but paint chips were still falling off. No. We decided to end our "working" relationship then. C10 Abatement's work ethic and practices are substandard quality. We asked them to return the money minus $4k to be generous enough to get money back. None. He ghosted us. DO NOT HIRE C10 Abatement. Like everyone else, I researched the internet and read reviews on a few different sites and then I called the top-looking companies for more information and quotes. The prices were all the same or about $100 different. It is a scary thing to learn that there is radon in the home so I was nervous and had a lot of questions. When I called Advanced Radon, a woman named Phyllis answered and she immediately put me at ease with her calm demeanor and amazing knowledge of radon and the mitigation process. I was also extremely relieved to learn that they have a guarantee. After they install the mitigation system, they do another test to ensure that it has been lowered to a rating below 4. If it doesn't for any reason, they will install a second system and/or look for other ways to lower it. Other companies were a bit gruff with me on the phone and didn't seem patient with my multiple questions and worries, but not this company. Also, other companies either didn't offer a guarantee or they were not clear about what the guarantee meant. The installation went well yesterday - on time as scheduled. The part that I really appreciated is that the installation team told me afterwards that my back step was loose and they inspected it further and found a gap between the steps and the house which could actually give me slightly lower readings (which would be false). This was led by a guy named Mike who was also extremely patient with all my questions. He recommend that I get the step fixed and do another reading to ensure that the system really works and that they would certainly come back and perform more mitigation tasks for free if necessary.
