This is a hidden gem. The food is fantastic. Great portions. Delicious flavors. Cooked perfectly. My first impression when I visited was feeling like I was on vacation in another country (in a good way). Even so though it seems to cater towards Peruvian clientele the waitstaff was VERY helpful and answered all our questions. We fell in love with the fried seafood plate. If you like fried seafood (like calamari and fish) you must get it. The portion is huge. 2 people can over eat on it. We also had the Green Spaghetti with Chicken. It also is served with steak and if we weren't getting steak with another option I'd suggest that combo. The steak Dish which was tasty but we preferred the other two (pasta and seafood). Very Very good definitely a keeper but be sure to share my husband and I are big eaters and one plate was more than enough to make us feel overly full. On the weekends there is live music starting at 8pm which is great entertainment. read more

Puro Peru - Seafood Platter at Puro Pero. Huge and absolutely delicious! - Peruvian Near Me - Sandy, Utah

I like to come to this place with my family, because their food is good, but the costumer service at this restaurant is terrible. I haven't had experience like this before. I had to wait for ten minutes and they had plenty of staff and several tables available. The table that was seated after us, right next to us got to order at least 10 minutes before us. My wife kindly had to call someone over. They came over asked what we wanted. My wife's water ran out and she didn't get a refill, even up one requesting it. Several other thing happen and we were very disappointed. At least the food was good! Our visit at this restaurant was January 9 / 2022. read more

Loving Peruvian food, husband and I went as soon as we saw this place. We got the Jalea, which is a platter of a variety of fried seafood. We also got the chicken and rice, which was delish. I was a bit disappointed they didn't have any Of their purple water drink, but not disappointed enough to take a star away. read more

My first impression was, this place is cold. It was late December afternoon and we needed jacket to keep us warm. I read another Yelp review mentioned this place is hot in the summer. So it does seems like they don't believe in good temperature regulation mechanism in this restaurant. Extreme weather apart, the food here is between acceptable to amazing. The Seafood Platter is huge, with enough seafood like sea bass, mussels and shrimps to drain the Atlantic. It looks impressive - the kind that makes you want to order if you see this at the next table. They are breaded well. The only thing missing is delicious fry sauce to go with it. Definitely a dish to share. The Jumping Chicken is a sautee of chicken, tomatoes and onions cooked in vinegar and spices, served with fries and rice. The chicken reminds me a lot like Chinese stir fry albeit more sour, and I still don't know why it is called Jumping Chicken. It is a pleasant, economical dish. Although I find these delicious, they don't really blow my mind. I probably need to try their other unique and authentic items in the menu. Or maybe the coldness does numb my taste buds. I don't know. read more

So i only tried one plate. The beef lomo saltado. This is my favorite Peruvian dish and let me say that it did not dissapoint. Most places dont make this dish juicy enough or the juice they marinade the meat in has no flavor. This one was excellent. The meat absorbed the flavor of the coocked tomatoes and the other ingredients they use for their marinade. The tomatoes and onions also absorbed the marinade and had an excellet flavor. This dish is served with fries and my only downside is that they should pour some of their juicy marinade over the fries because when those fries absorb the juice its really really good. read more

What a fun night at Puro Peru! It feels like we walked into a different country as we entered the restaurant. Live music with excellent singers and dancing and some tasty food!! The food was definitely authentic and great quality. We got the ceviche and Arroz con pollo. Both were great but I'd have to say that the ceviche was de-LICIOUS. The ceviche was very fresh tasting. We ordered it very spicy and it was perfect. It is raw fish but marinated in lemon with onions. It is very tangy, spicy, and a unique flavor but very tasty. It was served with a batata (yam) that balances the acidity of the dish nicely. The pollo was good as well, very hot and some great flavors. It was served in a greenish sauce that was flavorful. I need to take some salsa and bachata dancing classes and come back soon!! Highly recommend for an authentic Peruvian experience. read more

I'm not generous with my reviews for Peruvian restaurants. I am Peruvian and hold any self proclaimed Peruvian restaurant to a high standard. That being said, the food was incredible. Enormous portions that will last for two meals. My only complaint is We only got one napkin-- but at the end of the day I don't eat out for napkin quality I do it for the food. read more

The ceviche was way too salty. My husband & I have eaten it there before & it was better. There is a strong gas-like odor emitting from the outside of the building & the bathrooms. Sadly, we will not return. read more

For months I would drive past Puro Peru and say to myself, I really need to stop and try that place. The one day I get a text from my sister saying she just had the most delicious and enormous plate of fried seafood and guess where she's eating. Puro Peru. I finally got my chance to try it this past Saturday and I'm so glad I did but also kick myself for not trying it sooner. The place is not super fancy and if you're not paying attention you'll drive right past it. The restaurant is long and narrow so there's not a ton of seating but it's not tiny like Copper Commons or Kobe. We had a large group on a Saturday at 6 pm and were seated right away. I assume you can make reservations since 3 tables had signs on them saying reserved. When you're seated they bring you water and cancha (I googled that so don't quote me on it) or as our waitress called it Peruvian popcorn. Its like giant corn nuts but not as hard. They were yummy, albeit weird, and the green dipping sauce was good but spicy. There were 9 adults and 2 kids and we ordered 4 dishes. The price per plate seemed a little high but the portions are huge which evens things out. We got two orders of the poor man's steak, two orders of the fried seafood (I believe it was listed under the ceviche) and one order of Tallarines verdes con milanesa de pollo (spaghetti with spinach pesto and fried chicken cutlet). There was more than enough food for everything. Everything tasted wonderful. The poor man's steak had almost all of my favorite things, french fries (which tasted and looked homemade. Yummy.), steak, plantains, and a fried egg. The Tallarines was really good. Both the noodles and the chicken had a nice flavor, though most of us agreed that it would have been better with the steak. And the fried seafood? Oh my heavens. It had a TON of calamari, shrimp (shell on, don't just pop it in your mouth), mussels, and giant pieces of sea bass. The seafood was perfectly cooked, not chewy at all. The place was clean. The bathrooms fine. The service was good, the waitress was pleasant and helpful and kept our waters filled. In the evenings they have live music and karaoke. It has a small private parking lot so you don't have to park on State. I cannot wait to go back and try the jumping beef. read more

My old roommate and her bf raved about this place so my friend and I went to check it out. It was my first time trying Peruvian food so I was super excited. I ordered the jumping chicken- HUGE portions. The chicken was tender and the sauce it was bathed in was scrumptious. The chicken was accompanied with fresh slices of tomatoes, red onions, and a side of white rice. My friend ordered the tacu loma which she really liked. Want to go back and try their arroz con pollo and one of their many seafood dishes! Needless to say, I am a fan of Peruvian food. read more

Haven't been in a while, but love the arroz con pollo. I've been wanting to go back for a while, but there are so many other places to try. The rice was cooked perfectly. Definitely try it! read more

I won't lie I was a bit skeptical when my friend suggested we meet here. But it was amazing! A true taste of Peruvian culture. They brought us a couple different juices that were amazing. The servers were so kind and helped us find something we would enjoy. My kids LOVED their dishes. We got a little bit of everything and shared family style. I heard on Friday nights they have dancing. My husband and I really want to come check that out! Love this place and can't wait to come back. read more

This is the best Peruvian restaurant I've been to in Utah (by far). For those that are not familiar with Peruvian cuisine and are curious to try it, let it be known there is something for everyone. Marinated beef hearts, chicken or beef stir fry, fried fish, or even Japanese/Chinese/Peruvian fusion, there are choices to be had. If you need something for your kids while you experiment with another dish, then get them the salchipapas (hot dogs and French fries). The lomo saltado is always a favorite accompanied by a glass (or pitcher!) of delicious chicha morada. You can't go wrong. Also, the service has always been great. read more

I ordered the tacu loma which had sirloin steak, onions, and tomatoes in a really good sauce. It also came with a side of rice that was on its own plate! Not a bowl, a big ass plate. Portion was hugeee. My friend had the jumping chicken which was good too! Next time I definitely want to try the mussels appetizer and ceviche mmMm read more

Food is great, clean place, but the customer service perhaps not the best at least for me. There has been several times where I come in and it's almost a fully booked ( some tables available) which I totally understand because they might be short on staff or whatever reason. My point is that most the time they see me waiting to be seated and some waiters see me and Dont say anything. They just ignore me. I always go back because of the food is so delicious. read more

There were several little things that don't make this restaurant good. When you walk in there's a board with specials that is pretty hidden. The servers don't even mention it to you. We ordered the choclo apetizer which didn't come presented like the photo in the menu. When I asked about it she told me it's cause they use canned corn now (not cool) when our meal came it was cold. The fish in the ceviche hadn't been left long enough in lemon juice since it was completely raw. It truly was a series of things with the food and service. Truth be told for their prices and lack of freshness I highly recommend going to Del Mar al lago instead read more

MMMMas, por favor..... This place was great. Stopped in for lunch, and was surprised by the ambiance, simple, clean dining room with some great art on the walls. They had some big TVs with a live international soccer match playing and some great music to get the mood set. Menu has a lot of choices, so take your time to decide. If all else fails, ask the waitress (Mercedes was great) and they will recommend favorites. I went with the stewed beef with rice and beans. I did not disappoint! The flavors were on point, beans were delicious and creamy, and the beef was tender and like a home style roast beef chunk. Try the Ahi's (Spicey sauces) they have green and red, the red stuff is spicey but very good. To wrap up a great lunch I tried the Alfajor (I am partial to Chilean ones), but these were homemade, and delicious as they come. I wish I had bought more... All in a great place, service was excellent, and we will be going back. read more

Super yummy here. The service is very friendly and we came during an off hour for lunch but it was able to accommodate our group of 9. The restaurant has a little area for like a band and I assume for the dinner stuff. Obviously, based off Yelp pictures friends ordered the Jumping Beef and were happy with their dish. The gravy it comes with is good and portion sizing is decent. I really wanted the fish that was in the Seafood Platter. Dear gawd, it's huge. If you share with someone you'll definitely get your money's worth. The fish that it comes with is flavored well enough you could eat it without any of the sauces provided. They provide two sauces you can dip the 'popcorn' with. It's basically like dried up maize and you dip it in a little spicy salsa or the green sauce. I prefer the green sauce. Sorry I forgot what it was called. The staff was super friendly about doing individual checks since we had a large group and everyone wanted to pay for their own dish. read more

I had no idea what to expect - this was my first taste of Peruvian cuisine. Stopped in for a late lunch (3pm 'ish) on a Saturday. There were a few other patrons and all seemed to be regular customers - a good sign. We were greeted and seated promptly, and were brought some fried corn-nut type snack with a couple of sauces, one was a spicy cilantro-lime and I think the other was housemade mayo. Pretty good. After it was determined that it was our first visit, we were offered some suggestions on entrees, and sample some Peruvian beer. Though it seems that seafood is their specialty, we chose the 'anticuchos tradicional' beef heart appetizer and an 'arroz' dish with beef. The beef heart was amazing - super tender in a delicious sauce, the potato and the corn were excellent. And the corn is not what you would expect, its more like hominy. The rice dish was good - kinda like a stir-fry; a fusion of spanish and asian flavors. The portions were enough to take home and savor the next day. Overall a nice experience. I'm a little surprised by all the negative reviews regarding service. The service was by no means sub-standard, but if you are in a hurry, go somewhere else. If you want good food in a relaxed, family-friendly place, come check it out. I am already looking forward to the next visit. read more

Having never ventured into the world of Peruvian food, I was not sure what I was getting into. My husband got what would be equivalent to shrimp fried rice- it was amazing!!!! Hubby was a bit unnerved the shrimp came with shells and legs attached. I tried to order empanadas, but they were out. Instead I had the tamales- while it was decent, I would not waste time ordering it again when there are so many other dishes that look and probably taste much better. The karaoke was very loud and pretty annoying but once the wait staff started singing- one girl was obviously tone deaf- it was time to embrace the moment and howl along. They didn't know the words, and neither did I but it ended up making what could have been a miserable experience quite fun. We will return, and just like everyone else has also mentioned- the portion sizes are HUGE. read more

This Peruvian establishment in Sandy has an expansive menu with lots of interesting traditional (lomo saltado, anticuchos, ceviche and pollo con arroz) Peruvian specialities, as well as some not so common dishes (grilled octopus in an olive sauce, cow tripe). The dishes are flavorful and served in generous portions with rice and/or fried potatoes. There is a limited alcoholic beverage menu. Service was good with friendly and patient servers. Prices are quite reasonable ($9-18). A nice gem in the southern Salt Lake Valley! read more

We have been to this place at least 4 times. And each time, food was always consistently good, as well as the service, Although the place is not in a prime location, I find that prices are a little high given the place, atmosphere, and ambiance or lack thereof, but serving portions are big. Our favorites from this place are the Ceviche Mixto and Lomo Saltado, and the other items in the menu that we have tried were also good. Like Jalea and the Peruvian version of the Spanish Paella, among others. The owner keeps to himself, the waitstaff and service is good, the place is somewhat dark and not the nicest, but we still like it and we will keep on coming back to try everything on their menu! read more

We have eaten here on 4 occasions. The food and service has always been great. The most delicious item on the menu is the Royal Jalea. All of the entrees are huge. read more
