Fantastic flavors. Good quality. Perhaps a little over priced. This food here was delicious. We ordered a stew meat platter and some sort of potato appetizer (obviously I should have written them down). The stew meat had the texture of the most tender pot roast. It came with a side of sticky - ish rice and beans. The chimi churi sauce was flavorful and bright. The little salad (red onions in lime juice) might have been my boyfriend's favorite part, very refreshing. The potato appetizer was essentially boiled Idaho potatoes covered in a delicious cheesy type sauce. Even though some of the dishes there looked big enough for three people, we were disappointed to see that our dish only came with 2 moderate pieces of meat. Plan on paying between $14-20 per person. It is a little more than the average meal, but you will be hard pressed to find those kinds of flavors anywhere else in the valley. read more

The best Peruvian restaurant in Utah! Coming from a Peru that has been to every Peruvian restaurant multiple times. I highly recommend the Lomo Saltado! read more

The small building is extremely noisy and the music isn't clear. They have "okay" food here, if you don't mind the hour long wait and the extremely high prices for mediocre food. Also, if you give a fuck, don't order the duck. Excuse the curse word please, it was necessary. read more

Looks very average as you drive by so I didn't think about this place until my other Peruvian place closed. Boy was I surprised. The staff is welcoming and the atmosphere is relaxing but the emphasis is definitely on the food! Very delicious and the plating is pleasing to the eye. If you like great food at a good price this is the place to go for South American food. read more

Puro Peru - Peruvian Near Me - Sandy, Utah

If you are looking for a fun, cultural experience... Look no further! I will admit, I haven't been to Peru, but our neighbors are Peruvian and this is their favorite place to eat! We went simply because they couldn't say enough good about it. I do enjoy anything with an authentic feel, and Puro Peru did not disappoint! I'll start by letting you know if you go in the evening on the weekend, I hope you don't plan on having an intimate conversation over dinner. They have (loud) music playing and the cheeriest man who sings. On the plus side, they light up the dance floor, and it fills up! Majority of the people who come here are latin American, so it is completely normal to get up mid-bite and go shake your groove thing. The service is good. Depending on what time of day you go, it can be a little slower. (I've found mid-week they aren't in as much of a hurry). They start you off with giant roasted corn and some dipping sauces. Spicy mayo and a lime cilantro I believe. SO good. It's strange and addicting. We ordered the Lomo Saltado (jumping beef) and it was delicious! I don't know what they do to those tomatoes... But oh. My. Word. They were so good. And don't let the weirdness of french fries being thrown in there get to you. When you load up your fork with the beef, roasted veggies, and a couple fries.. It makes for the perfect bite. If you like authentic and cultural places, I'd definitely recommend. read more

So in love with this place and is a must stop before our 6hrs drive back to Las Vegas after snowbird. Portions are enormous and the flavors are unique and authentic. Incredible value for the price with most plates under $16 (you'll have left overs). If you're lucky, there'll be Peruvian singers here during your dining experience. We come here every time we are in town and so much better than other 'ethnic' food offerings in this region of Utah. read more

Yummy! Other Yelpers said it was cold and no heater. It was a cold night and the heater felt great. (See picture) It's true the servers do not speak English very well but the gentleman who served us was easy to communicate with....that is until we asked which dish was the poor man's steak and were told that the lomo saltado was the poor man's steak.... it is Not. The Bistec a lo pobre is the name of the poor man's steak. The names of the dishes on the menu are NOT in English. The portions were huge and the food very well seasoned. I put my fork on the one dish to show the size of the portions. I went home with enough that lasted me two more lunches. My husband however finished his meal. read more

PHENOMENAL food. Loved everything we got (which was a lot). These tasted just like the home-cooked meals I loved while living in Peru. Sweet employees who gave wonderful service. read more

The flavors are amazing. Family business that knows how to cook. Never had a dish that I haven't loved

I will definitely be going back!! Honestly I haven't tried much of their food other than the 2 I ordered so my impression is limited.. I asked the waiter what is the best food there and he said lomo saltado is very popular. So I tried to make my point that I don't want popular. I want best. He said lomo saltado is. So I tried it and it did not disappoint! The medium meat was done perfectly with the right tenderness and combination of spice on the sauce. Delish. Also ordered traditional cebiche. A bit too much lime for my taste. Ordered spicy but thing wasn't spicy at all. I like Del Mar Al Lago's version a bit better. Had leftover and saved for the next day. Fish became half cooked but all the tastiness sipped in and there's more spiciness than we first got it. Ooh so nice in my mouth. Although still not as spicy as I wanted it to be. So why did I leave 4 stars? Service issue. Since it was Friday night, place was packed and there was no parking. Waiter didn't really check on our water level so that's what bugged me most. I didn't blame them for no parking but kinda felt ignored when he didn't even check water.. Tip: reserve for Friday nights. Also the definition of live music kinda confused me. I thought there was going to be a band of some sort. Instead it was 2 guys doing karaoke. They are really good though. The songs make me want to play Tropico 4. Salsa! Salsa! Ay! One of them remind me of Cesar Milan with his similar built and haircut.. Anyway try not to sit right in front of the speakers when they're on stage. Loud.. read more

We had no idea what Peruvian food consisted of, so we took quite a bit to order. I was really confused as to why there was so much pasta on the menu, so I decided to find out. They had some of the best spaghetti with pesto that I've had in Utah; it put many Italian restaurants to shame that we've visited. Not only that, but the fried chicken cutlet that came with is was very moist and nicely seasoned. The fried corn they bring while you order is quite addictive, and the fried yuca we also ordered was a bit bland, but nice. Inca Cola was like a cream soda with a flavor I could not distinguish and their passion fruit juice was really good. The yellow curry looking dish made of walnuts my fiancee ordered was a bit weird at first, but she seemed to really enjoy it. We will definitely be back to try other things! read more

Fun place to have dinner on Sat. My wife and I spent dinner here for Saturday night. It was fun and good dinner. People coming for dinner and dancing. Beautiful music, good food. read more

This place is pretty good! The inside of the restaurant leaves something to be desired, the colors are dark and uninviting. The food however is good. Got the lomo Saltado which was recommended by a friend who served a mission speaking Spanish. The portions were decent, but the only thing that was disappointing was the price. It's pretty expensive for a plate of food that barely fills me up but the flavors were excellent. read more

Traditional delicious Peruvian food. We frequent Peru, and I have learned the cuisine well. We will make a point to come again! read more

Is it the BEST Peruvian food I've had...no, but it is good. Large portions, which I would expect for the prices they charge. Not outrageously expensive but a bit more than equivalent restaurants. Had the civiche mixto. Pretty good. Fish seemed fresh, mussels seemed to be of the frozen variety, pretty common for restaurants in Utah. Like other reviewers said most staff no Hablo ingles, but I take that as a good sign. 95% of the clientele is Latin American, so that should speak somewhat to the authenticity of the place. read more

Very authentic and delicious Peruvian cuisine! Wonderful laid back atmosphere with great service. Working my way through the menu and so far everything has been superb! read more

This place has great food and the service has gotten much better but the prices keep going up and up

Tried this place last night for the first time. Sketchy location and oddly ghetto outside but totally worth going inside. Completely different environment inside. Awesome staff. Authentic and delicious. Bands at night. Actual Peruvians cooking the food and making recommendations +++. Lo máximo! A++ for food quality and taste. Parents with kids, not many options for the chillens. I wouldn't recommend the chicken with fries because the chicken while flavorful isn't the best for that specific dish. Everything else is quality. read more

I ordered the chaufa fried rice which was well flavored, salty, and delicious. I've spent some time in Peru and eating here definitely felt nostalgic. The people are friendly, service is good, and the food is wonderful. Although the meals are slightly on the pricier side, the portions are pretty hearty. read more

This was our first venture into Peruvian food. I think I needed a guide! The description of the meal didn't include tripe. The meal did. Neither of us finished our meal. Our server was not very helpful. We ordered a "special" that included a Coke. When we asked for a Diet Coke, they charged us an extra dollar. Really? read more

Ignore the sticky floor and the plug in air freshener. I had the chicken and green rice as recommended by so many others. The servings are generous so I took the leftovers home and ate them 4 hours later. They tasted just as good as the first time. My husband had the seafood ceviche. If you like seafood, go for it. It was piled high with calamari, octopus and shrimp. Both our meals were served with this delightful plate of onion type relish. I could eat that stuff by the jar full. Only 2 kinds of beer- corona or Heineken- not Peruvian but acceptable. We had excellent service and once again I wish I could have eaten more. read more

Casual atmosphere, good service, and decent prices. I got the arroz con pollo which was great. It was a big serving with great flavors. It was not spicy. My husband ordered the steak and eggs. He only got one egg (picture showed two ) and the steak was over done, thus the 4 star. read more

Puro Peru - Arroz con polllo....delicious - Peruvian Near Me - Sandy, Utah

I've been on a Peruvian kick lately and this is one of the better Peruvian restaurants in Utah. First of all, the restaurant itself feels like a rundown bar, so definitely not a fan of that. However, the saving grace is the food. The Lomo Saltado is awesome, definitely my favorite dish there. The food is on the pricier side or else I would be here a lot more often, probably more for take out than eating at the restaurant if I'm going to be completely honest. read more

The waitress lied to us. We were more than 6 people, but she said that she wouldn't charge gratuity. She actually did, and she didn't recognize her mistake. Very disappointing! read more

Execelent serving and has really good taste. Try the bistec a la pobre. They do have desserts that are good.

Came here to celebrate Peruvian Independence Day with my family. Started off good we were seated quickly but didn't realize the menu is now online we weren't told until the waitress came up and asked if we were ready. Our food took almost an hour to come out which is fine since I know being Peruvian myself that it can take a while to cook. Now we have twin babies that are still formula fed and forgot our water at home my husband asked for a cup of water with no ice. The waitress took about 20 minutes to bring this out but when she brought it out there were clearly floaties in the water and the bottom of the glass was super dirty. When someone else came to leave our food I asked nicely if they could give me a new cup of water because this had floaties in it. (It looked like old salad or a scab) I believe he was the manager, after this interaction our waitress never returned to our table and even had someone else give us the check. No one came with our to go boxes and our babies were already screaming so I wasn't even going to argue this. I had to stand up and take my check to the manager to pay for it. Normally when we come we have great customer service but we often come in large crowds that tip heavy but today it was just my husband, myself and my children so we weren't taken care of like we normally would be if it was a family reunion or birthday party. Super disappointing. read more

Fantastic food! And I don't agree with all the complaints about the service. We were there on a Saturday, and they were slammed, but our food came quickly, we frequently had servers checking in on us. That being said, even if the service was horrible, I would go back again and again! The Ceviche was amazing. They let my wife do a custom order. Instead of the bistec a lo pobre, she wanted chicken, so they made her a "pollo a lo pobre" that wasn't on the menu and she loved it! I personally liked the divey atmosphere, and it was clearly authentic, because I overheard many of the people eating there explain that they were from Peru, had visited Peru, or had family from Peru. read more

The food wasn't terrible, but the abysmal service and odds-n-ends setting makes for a less than optimal dinning experience . We went with another couple and ordered two appetizers and meals...our main course came before the appetizers and ahead of the other couples Meals. When we pointed this our our server told us that there wasn't anything he could do about it...we suggested that he could have served all the meals together (crazy idea). The food was very average, the service was nearly non existing ...even with their 'fancy' red bow ties (really what's that all about?!?) read more

Great Peruvian. Ceviche mixto was really good. Papa a la Huancaina was great. Lomo Saltado, the first time we had it, was perfect. This time the fries were under cooked and some were even crunchy-raw. Flavors overall are five-star. Would have given it 5 stars were it not for the consistency. Service was friendly and attentive. If I could give a 4.5 I would. Overall, a very enjoyable experience. read more

Great food. Great service. Definitely a hidden gem in a hole in the wall. The jumping beef is super tasty.

Went there on a Friday night with a bunch of friends. Nice ambience with friendly staff. Live music was awesome. Jumping Chicken and beef I ordered came with fries as well as jasmine rice. Huge portion with resonable price. It was very tasty. Definitely will pay a second visit! read more

We just moved to Sandy and have been trying local restaurants. This place was amazing! Our waiter was very nice, but not hovering. The food was delicious...I had the jumping beef and my boyfriend had an order of carne something. The flavors in the sauce on my beef, onions and tomatoes was so delicious! When I poured my leftovers into the box I actually wiped the sauce off the edge of the plate with my finger so that I wouldn't leave any behind! Based on the reviews here I can't wait to go try the big seafood platter! read more

Food was really bland. They gave no AC do it was 100 degrees inside. It was terrible.

Since my review, I've been to Puro Peru twice and I wasnt impressed anymore. I actually ordered the same chicken with green rice, and while the rice was OK not as good as the first time, the chicken was cold inside and flavorless as if it had been reheated from being frozen. On my third visit, I tried the tacu tacu which was actually very good but the side steak was under seasoned and very tough. Overall, I do believe the quality went down since my first visit, I hope they can get back up soon! read more

Food was decent, the meat did not taste like normal meat. The servers refilled my drink maybe once and never checked up. I love Peruvian food but the carapulcra was not worth it. And to make things worse, they never brought me my change back! They just waited for me to get up. Not worth it. read more

Food was overpriced and service wasn't great. The chicken in one of our meals wasn't cooked, which was a waste considering the price. Thought about sending it back, however it took 25 minutes for the first plate to even come out. To top it off it wasn't that busy. Not going back again. read more

Was recommended by a friend. Food was good they charged us for the wrong meal and wouldn't not refund me me the money which shouldn't have been charged. Poor service left very frustrated. read more

Travel from out of town and I was looking forward to this spot since I eat a Peruvian food at every city. The staff was not friendly at all and we had a problem with the steak being raw and the manager took the plate back and told the cook just to cook it more and didn't even apologize. The rice in the lomo was raw. I definitely won't come back on my future trips to Salt Lake City. read more
