Sweet lodge with seclusion so you won't feel like you are bombarded with people. You have the option to relax or you can go explore the neighborhoods nearby of Durango. Sometimes you may not have service but that's almost a good thing. You can get away and rent a condo with a kitchen, tv, balcony, and be set for however long you want to make your stay. Housekeeping was good about always bringing new towels or extra coffee packets which was sweet. Nearest store is the country store and it's expensive but you can make the run to Durango and explore there, head back with good and goodies and be set for a couple days relaxing or writing. read more

We had a great time at purgatory. The ski school did a great job helping our first time skiing children. The lodge was very conveniently located, we liked the mountain club, the swimming pool and hot tubs. The bad... the unit we rented stunk of cigarette smoke. The room was supposed to be non smoking. It aggravated our sleep and allergies. The unit was also hot and stayed in the mid seventies even though the thermostat was set in the high sixties. Multiple light bulbs were out throughout the unit. One of the elevators was broken during most of the stay. I know marijuana is legal in Colorado but they were smoking in a nearby room which was not appreciated as we have young children. read more

Be careful about renting here. We came for a summertime wedding and our room was definitely substandard. Starting with broken fan and broken shades, the office was kind enough to provide a fan and duct taped the shade to stay open. Unfortunately, they couldn't address the broken elevator to our 5th floor room or the smoke that came from all the people standing outside smoking. The front desk said the rentals are individually owned so that they can't really do anything. I could go on and on about this, but you should get the idea. read more

This place was spectacular. We had a rough check in but the next day Jake really made our week. He was very informative and very hospitable. Thank you for making our family group enjoy our stay. We will be back soon. read more

There's no first aid onsite. If a rider gets injured on a ride, there's no one to render aid. No one cares. No one says sorry. Just every man for himself. I fell off a ride and no one seems to give a shit. I'm bleeding profusely. read more

We stayed at the lodge/condos and the place was gorgeous and nicely updated. They had great services & amenities like free firewood delivered and a nice spa/pool & workout area, and the skiing was epic. Reason for low rating is the staff, many of whom were extremely unfriendly or downright rude. I get that dealing with tourists isn't always awesome, but maybe don't work at a ski resort if dealing with people from out of town isn't your thing. Having people treat me like a nuisance at a place I'm vacationing doesn't make me want to go back. Lots of other ski areas to explore. read more

Don't stay here if you're hoping to sleep at all. I'm making this post at 3 in the morning because every night they run some sort of bobcat or snowplow in the main square right outside where everyone sleeps. It beeps constantly and runs all night. This is the 3rd night in a row...also there is a lot of polling you have to do here--too many areas where the hill flattens out so get ready for arm cramps! At one point I had to take my skis off and walk 1/3 a mile to get back from lift eight. 75% of the runs have a spot that actually goes up hill so you have to poll up it. read more

Purgatory Lodge At Durango Mountain Resort - Snowplow outside my room at 3 in the morning - Hotels Near Me - Durango, Colorado

They make snow every night. If you stay in the Villas right on the mountain, it's very convenient but you will be kept up all night by the loud noise and beeping of the snow making and grooming machine. In general, we found this to be a rather unprofessionally run operation. From ski school to everything else. read more

We have come here from Phoenix for 8 years. The past two times have been less than stellar thanks to terrible customer service by the staff. Seems they could give a shit about the happiness of the people that stay in the resort which ultimately pays their paychecks. I'd suggest fire all the staff and bring in a new crew that has been trained to treat customers like they matter. Hospitality is one of the easiest jobs in the world. read more

Purgatory is great for ski in/out and activities for kids to do during work hours 9-4. But outside of 4p.m. Everything shuts down right at 5. It's extremely desolate after 5 p.m. and there is NOTHING to do after. The staff that work here are extremely rude and seem to be very inconvenience by everyone. They seem to be very lazy and not want to work and as soon as the 5 o'clock whistle blows, they're out! (If you don't like tourist then maybe you shouldn't work in this industry.) The Coleman Family that owns this place should be extremely embarrassed by the way everything is run. We will not come back unfortunately. There are much better ski mountains/resorts to go to. read more

We came here for Valentine's Day and it was such a wonderful trip. Before we arrived, we had several emails asking if we needed anything or had any questions, which we did so this was nice! The arrival went smoothly. We had reserved a studio for two in Kendall Lodge. We were surprised to be placed in the Durango Room which was awesome and had a lot of character. It was not a Murphy bed as advertised online and we were delightfully surprised. It was so easy to walk everywhere at the resort. We loved that we could get back to our room so easily for breaks from skiing. The food at Purgy's and the pizzeria was very good. We loved relaxing in our room at night. Someone would come by nightly to restock the fireplace which was fantastic! Overall, we loved everything about our trip! We can't wait to come back and will definitely try to reserve the Durango Room again! read more

This really was such a great place for us to stay. I did NOT want to leave. We rented from the East Rim condos and were attending a wedding that was organized through/at the resort. The ceremony was nearby, but the reception was at Purgy's. The service all weekend was great, especially at the reception and the food was delicious. There was a great little coffee shop for the mornings, with some breakfast and lunch options, although we brought a good amount of food since we were staying in the condos. The pizza and ice cream shop was delicious one night as well and customer service was accommodating, efficient and very friendly. The East Rim condos were great and everything we needed for the long weekend we were there. The view was phenomenal in mid-August (and probably all year 'round). For two of us couples, there was plenty of space to sleep and hang out and had two full baths. ALSO, for the bed that was in the loft, I could NOT hear a lot when people were below us, I was so surprised. Even when my husband would talk to me from the kitchen, I was like, "what?.... what?!" :D Lastly, the rides they have around the resort are nice, but geared a little more toward children and families. However, the alpine slides are great for all ages and were so much fun! While we were here for a wedding, I hope to come back here one day again. P.S. The price isn't terrible (I would say $$ vs. $$$ per Yelp ratings) and they often have great sales on the site! read more

Pros: The location of the lodge is wonderful. It was a true ski in ski out. There were places to eat eat breakfast and ski rentals close by. Cons: The walls are incredibly thin. I could hear every word spoken by our neighbors--which was super frustrating at 4:45am. There are doors connecting the rooms and we could see light coming through from their room. Housekeeping came to our room while we were out and put cups on the counter but didn't make the bed or anything more. There's horrible lighting in the room, and one of the lampshades was broken and the others bulb was out. Overall: if you value your money stay here. If you value your sleep and sanity reevaluate. read more

This hotel was overpriced first of all. Also once we are about to go to bed we noticed stains on the sheets. It was very disgusting! Also we woke up to the housekeeping being very noisy in the hallway. They were like blasting their music extremely loud. Also we just didn't like the way they cleaned our rooms. Basically just made our bed and left everything the way it was. Definitely will not be staying here again. Also The rooms are extremely outdated. read more

Looking forward to going back for a third year. This place is fantastic. Usually stay in a studio because it is affordable but very nice. Love the location literally steps from the lifts. Nice restaurants beneath the building. Easy access and plenty of parking. Recommended. read more

Resort is clean, good price, and food has been good. Given a 2/5 because of the staff. I've had had 3 girls just today roll their eyes at me for asking questions about how to spend extra money on activities. If you ask a question, you feel like you are ruining their day. The stores are an exception, excellent help in toy store and 3 of the clothing, etc stores. This place would be great if they'd get more helpful people. read more

We've rented condos slopeside here for four years. There's no better place for families with kids of all ages. It's a simple walk to the lifts, there are hardly any lines at the lift. The instructors are very good and friendly. Of course the outside bar has awesome beer! read more

The hotel service was very disappointing. It was fiancés birthday weekend & I thought it would be a cool idea to stay here & ski.. I stayed in the Village Center & was lead on to believe our room would be better than what it was. I've stayed in cheap hotels that are way nicer than the $200 king room we stayed in. PLUS there was a door from our tiny room to the next AND IT WAS UNLOCKED. We walked straight into someone else's room without even knowing it until we saw 6 pairs of ski boots and we realized it was someone else's freaking room. Luckily we aren't bad people & we called the front desk & they sent security to lock the door so that we couldn't get into their room and they couldn't get into ours. The fact that someone could have easily walked right into our room if we hadn't noticed the door and stole our possessions &/or trashed the room is absolutely ridiculous. The man we called at the front desk didn't care about the door, didn't care about the misleading info I was told about my room and he was so rude when we needed help with the television. I will never stay at the hotel again. Nor would I ever advise someone to stay here. It's horrible. You'd be better off staying in the Downtown Durango Inn. Also, if you rent ski's/boots from purgatory, don't expect good service either. My fiancé was carrying our skis along with a backpack, he dropped one ski on the floor, the man working at the time just stood there LAUGHING at him! With my hands full, I put our boots down to help him pick it up. All while this guy is still just standing there being an a**hole laughing at him. Rent your ski's/boots at Ski Barn. They have wonderful customer service & their pricing is good. Purgatory is a place I will only go to for the mountain and nothing else. Never again will I deal with this crap. read more

My family has been enjoying Purgatory for 40 years and keep coming back Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall. Now my kids are bringing kids! We have stayed in many different condos and units on the mountain but the Purgatory Lodge is our favorite. We always reserve one of the two bedroom units own the Lodge that face south because the sun is such a blessing especially in the winter. Close to everything! Great rooms, great service, tons of amenities and activities all year round. My family loves Purgatory Lodge and we will definitely be back! read more
