In my opinion Jerry Lamont Mitchell or Pure Training 101 is not worth the headache he will cause you. He is unprofessional, doesn't value or respect his customer's time, his not responsive or responsible, or qualified. Here are a couple reasons why I believe you are better off avoiding this guy, based on my personal training experience with Jerry Lamont Mitchell (Pure Training 101):
1) He did not conduct any assessments. He didn't require any medical history reports. He didn't have a contract or disclosed anything about a refund policy prior to taking my money for 42 sessions. He doesn't have liability insurance.
2) There was no 3-month plan. Not even a personalized workout plan. He makes up the workouts as they go on the spot, which is a waste of time for a client trying to reach a goal. Doesn't track your progress, no clipboard, no notebook, nothing.
3) He doesn't have the certification to be a personal trainer. The one he did have expired in 2014. He does not have continuing education in physical fitness. He's just gotten his certification through a weekend certification. No educational background besides him playing sports, but that doesn't make him a qualified personal trainer. I will warn you that when you meet him he will sound convincing, but once you begin to train with me, you will see that he is just a con artist that talks a big talk.
4) He says that he is flexible in scheduling, but what he really means is that YOU the client have to be flexible with HIS schedule, which results in conflicting schedules.
5) When a client asks about tips or suggestions about nutrition, his advice is very limited. I know he is not a nutritionist, but from what he presented, his knowledge is not backed up. His nutrition plan will consist of diet pills or supplements designed for me that are not FDA approved. There also wasn't any follow up conversations about enhancing performance through nutrition.
6) He breached duty of care, which means he had the duty to make sure his client did not get hurt from his training. He tried to train me in boxing without having the proper gear such as wraps or gloves, which resulted in a pinched nerved in my left hand. This prevented me from doing any physical or normal daily activities for a couple of weeks.
7) He did not take clients' time into consideration. Scheduling did not occur in a professional manner. Although, I communicated to him to schedule in advanced, it was disregarded. He missed several training sessions or was a no show, and this caused me a great deal of anxiety.
8) When questioned, or giving feedback, based on personal experience from his workouts, he was not open to constructive criticism or suggestions, and did not create a space for the client's voice to be acknowledged. It is crucial to listen to the clients' concerns and needs, so that together, a fitness goal can efficiently become reality. This resulted in stagnant regression of physical ability.
Learn from my mistake, do your research before hiring an unqualified personal trainer that will keep your money for services he has not provided. He owes me $557 for unused training sessions, and after many attempts to reach him and get my money back, he has not responded or tried to work out anything with me. read more
