I've been doing the group classes for two years now and I can't imagine joining another gym. I was new to workout classes and exercising consistently in general. I wasn't very fit so I was intimidated by all the athletic and buff people shown on their website and IG. There was nothing to worry about because I felt so welcomed and taken care of. Javi and Courtney and all the other coaches I've had the chance to train with all are there to push you to do your best without overdoing it. I appreciated how they eased me in. First Step Fitness saved me from being stranded in Mexico. I was at the airport preparing to board the plane to take me back to LAX when I discovered that I, like a fool, had lost my tourist visa. I was told I needed to get a replacement as quickly as possible or the plane would leave without me. Thanks to First Step Fitness I was able to sprint from the gate all the way back to the front of the airport where immigration was, get a replacement visa, sprint back up several flights of stairs, back through security, and across the airport to my gate all in time to make it on the plane. This was all while carrying my luggage. To top it all off I wasn't even that sweaty as I took my seat! Thank you FSF! This is a wonderful gym with experienced and attentive trainers that are deeply invested in helping you achieve your fitness goals. In addition if you are like me and have suffered from injuries that have derailed your previous attempts at getting in shape, every trainer here will show great care in giving you modified versions of all exercises to ensure that you can still train without reinjuring yourself. That same welcoming attitude extends to everyone who attends the gym as well. If you're looking for good people to work out with, you'll find plenty of friendly faces at this gym. I have tried many private gyms/studios over the years and FSF is In the top 3 of my favorite places to workout. Javier(Javie) has an extensive fitness background and knows exactly what he is doing as a trainer/coach. I've seen and done numerous workouts and I'm learning new moves everyday at FSF. As a gym, they're good. But my 1 star is because Javi has been dodging me for months which comes off to me as him stealing my money and ghosting me. Mid-July 2019 I went in to join so I can get in shape for my wedding in October. Javi was so persuasive and really made me feel that my financial situation could be worked with. He split the payments for me so I paid twice a month. This would later screw me over a bit. Then I signed a contract for 3 months, another "solid" he was doing me instead of a 6 month contract. Fast forward and September is ending. I've paid for July-Aug-Sept. I thought I had October left so that's on me (I guess), so I messaged Javi saying I needed to drop the contract because I couldn't afford it. He told me I had to give them 30 days, so I guess he really wasn't willing to work with my financial situation. I did in fact give him 30 days notice of cancellation to 1 of the 2 payments. That payment that was out of the 30 days was STILL pulled from my account! I've been back and forth with Javi via phone and messages and he has yet to give me my money back! I wanted to give this place a good review because they worked with me well. But in the end, they did a whole extra month out of contract, that I requested to end, and then ghosted me. read more

I stumbled upon this gym during the height of the pandemic when everyone was working out outside, and I had to check it out! Fast forward a year and a half later - and it's my home away from home. The coaches / owners are the nicest people you will ever meet. The group classes feel just like personal training because these coaches KNOW you. Before I joined three years ago, I was bored doing the same workout over and over, and I wasn't pushing my self to work harder. I have a team of wonderful friends which motivate me to workout, and most of all it's fun. I have been a member at First Step Fitness for nearly 4 years and I workout at the gym between 4 and 5 times per week. There probably isn't a person on this planet aside from the trainers and owners of the company that know this gym as well as me. First Step Fitness has taken my body and transformed it in a number of ways. Mike and Amanda Matuz both sat me down when I initially started training with them to discover what my goals were, 1.) to lose body fat% 2.) to increase leg strength and 3.) to become a better athlete. I can honestly say that all 3 of those goals were accomplished within the first 6 months and I have been improving on them ever since. Mike identified the areas that needed the most work and he was unapologetic about how he was going to make that happen. The workouts that I am put through each night/morning allow me to push my body in different ways and all of the trainers give me the encouragement to push for one more set and one more rep. I'm a plus size lady who has joined 24 Hour Fitness twice. I joined Curves twice. Nothing stuck. They were boring and lacked any inspiration whatsoever. So I called Mike at FSF and explained I had a lot of weight to lose and would I fit in. I was so fearful about joining a "real" gym at my size. I not only fit in, I LOVE it! I'm not at the point where the other athletes are but there are accommodation moves to do instead and work the same areas, and the trainers are great at motivating and encouraging. I am doing things here I never thought I could do in a million years. And having fun. It's no mystery that your only as good as the efforts you put into something. Your food and fitness are 100% your choice and that is hard. We all want the easy way if the journey looks tough. I have been a member of FSF for just over a year now and have never regretted my decision to join, well maybe the first week or two but only because my muscles were so sore. The results are obvious to me and everybody I know. Not only am I stronger and more fit but my quality of life has improved markedly. I attribute these improvements almost entirely to FSF. They have not only trained me but have also inspired me to make healthy decisions outside of the gym. FSF is nothing like their competitors. It is expensive but only if one is comparing price tags without looking at what is actually being offered. FSF offers the experience of having a personal trainer without the expense. The trainers get to know you as an individual and become familiar with any special circumstances you might have. They offer to impart their knowledge of fitness and nutrition even when you're not at the gym via text message. Over the year that I have been attending FSF, not once have I done the same routine. The trainers constantly develop fresh new workout routines that include modifications based on members' capabilities. They often have special activities that add a bit of fun and diversity to their workouts. What else can I say about this place. I started training with Mike five years ago when I accepted a job that required me to be in top shape. Figuring I didn't have the Greek god physique I once had in high school, and resembled more of what you would imagine a typical college student body looked like. I gave MIke a call and not only was he able to get me back to my previous state of health but his training helped me excell at my academy and I placed in the top 2 in all physical assessments. Fast forwarding to the present I have continued my workouts with mike and his wonderful wife Amanda at firststep. To this day I have yet to have the same workout twice, and I am always surprised by the workouts he comes up with. You would think he would repeat himself after thousands of workouts right? The other clients are equally as awesome and have made numerous friends here, and not once have I experienced a so called jerk working out here. The place is always clean and everyone is very friendly. A matter of fact I have praised this place so much, that my mom has recently started to train here and she can't shut up about how much she loves it here. read more

Good trainers very friendly. .. schedule is some what ok. I paid a nice chunk of change for 1 month... and l wanted to keep going but I did not want to be locked in for an entire year and be expected to pay it all. I only wanted a few months with a trainer but since their month to month price is ridiculous I had to stop going. The month to month is not worth the price, but if you can commit to a year with them it is reasonable. So 3 star is mainly for cost and they could use another restroom or a mini locker room for people who have 2 come straight from work... and my food plan from my nutritionist was written on a torn piece of paper... a bit unprofessional on that side considering what I paid. read more
