Let's just say we arrived 30 minutes before closing, were directed exactly where to go, and did our best with the good amount of selection. About 10 minutes AFTER closing, one of the staff came back to see how he could help (not rushing us or asking us to wrap it up). In fact, we were ready to buy and he took one look at my kids shoe sizes and the skates we intended to buy and asked us a few questions. Turns out we didn't know as much as we thought in order for my children to have the best possible experience skating. He started from scratch, measured them both, and helped put on and take off the different pairs we were considering. He guided us to the best skates for their needs, taught us tricks how to "listen" for a good fit, why different skates were heavier, etc. Considering my daughter has unusually wide feet and tall arches, it was remarkable that they just happened to have a less in demand men's figure skate (that runs wider) that would work for her. Even though this store is way out of our way, I will definitely go back because of the knowledgeable and helpful staff.

There is a great selection and variety. I mostly go for the toys. There is a specific toy that I seek and this is the place to find them. While their toy department is not huge and is just a relatively smaller department within the store, what they do have is quality stuff, things that people actually seek out. Lego sets, RCs, educational children's toys, games, etc. I was pleasantly surprised to see a decent selection of disc golf discs. They even had some of one of my favorite brands, Kastaplast! Either Kastaplast is finally getting some mainstream recognition or Scheels has a good sporting goods manager. Speaking of which, Ashton is a great guy and truly thinks of the customer first and the customer's experience. There were even Zuca disc golf carts there. And they were all on sale. Another aspect to love about Scheels are the things you can do there like mini bowling, shooting arcade, and the Ferris wheel. You can have a date there for cheap! And then go to the cafe for a meal or treats. BTW, the jerky they sell there is excellent! All the employees there are very helpful. In some small ways, Scheels is better than Bass Pro, Cabela's, Sportsman's Warehouse. In this competitive market, small ways is what stands you apart. I really like those other stores, too, but Scheels just feels different. 5* = A top favorite. Mind-blowing good. I will definitely return and I will go out of my way to go here. Worth every dime of my money. 4* = Outstanding. Top-tier. Some elements not quite as good as it gets, but it still is worthy of my regular business. 3* = Good experience. I might do repeat business if it is convenient, the only option, the only one in its category, or on a whim, but would not be among the first thing to come to mind. (I had several questions) 10 minutes in golf department. Same story. 20 minutes in BBQ and the two guys there seemed more worried about the display looking great than offering help. The lady that helped me fully dedicated over 20 minutes to walking around the shop helping me make a list of all the equipment, clothing, tools, and supplies I'll need for my newly purchased road bike. She also spoke with me at length about cleaning and riding techniques, as well as tips and tricks from her own cycling experience. She was also able to recommend a third party to properly fit my bike to me, which she uses herself. I didn't look around at the new bikes too much, but I did notice they had a selection of mountain bikes, e-bikes, and road bikes. They've got tools, bags, shoes, cleaners and lubricants, CO2 tire inflators, tubes, and everything else you'd ever need. They were out of a few clothing items due to shortages from high demand during COVID, but they were still able to provide recommendations about what to look for. That undivided attention was so valuable and helpful - I couldn't have asked for anything more than the experience I had here. This isn't the closest bike shop to me, but it is 100% worth the drive. AND I'd like to mention they are open an hour later than most other bike shops, which is so appreciated and convenient when I rushing to get some shopping done after my work day. They made a fresh cut on the bottom to help with water uptake and loaded the tree into the car for us. Years ago we also bought a stand from them; instead of the usual pins, it has a single post in the middle of the well. Since their trees have holes drilled in the bottom, you just place the tree onto the post and you're done! It's so much easier than trying to twist the pins to hold the tree in place. Highly recommend the stand. They're also offering a special coupon for $20 off at Root'd across the street with a tree purchase!

The problem with the shoe department in all big 5's is... if you want to try on any shoes/boots that are displayed against the wall, you have to have a salesman go into the back, bring the shoes/boots out for you to try on. This is a pain to have the salesperson keep going in the back for one style or size or another. However, today there wasn't anyone in the shoe department to help, all sales associates were hanging up front socializing with one another.
