I thought it was too good to be true that they come to your house and aren't that much pricier than downtown Boston salons. Lauren was prompt, enthusiastic, and thorough. She made me feel very comfortable and gave me an amazing tan. She was very careful to apply it lightly to see how my skin took to it so we could decide on the right shade. She even had me walk into my kitchen to see the tan in a different light. Good thing we did this because my tan was much darker in my Western-facing kitchen. Needing to be freshly scrubbed, clean and then in dark clothes afterwards make it complicated to go spray tanning right after work. But, it doesn't matter now that Pure Glow comes to you. As what one might call a "tanorexic," I was suspect of Pure Glow. Can an organic custom spray tan really mimic a true tan and not turn me into an oompa loompa? Well, the answer -- I'm thrilled to say -- is YES! Lauren and team are very welcoming and make you feel comfortable right off the bat. They take time to explain the process and after-care and answer any questions you might have. A friend and I went in for the Grand Opening (of their Newbury St studio) on Saturday and purchased a discounted one-month unlimited package. We both got the full-body tan and were really happy with the results. There was a menu to choose from (which is going to be updated) from three shades; Lauren explained that since it was customizable, we could go for a "bold" number (ie, in between two shades). We asked what women usually wore and were told no bra and a thong (they do have disposable ones there!), but you can wear whatever you like! You are instructed to get into various positions so they don't miss any spots -- it can be a bit awkward but really they make you feel comfortable right off the bat. The tan shows up immediately (they use a bronzer so that they can make sure your tan is even and the color you want) and, unlike the booths, it smells FANTASTIC!! There is also aloe in the solution so your skin feels soft afterwards. They aren't kidding when they say you can go right out afterwards -- you really can! And you don't need makeup since you feel gorgeous with your "sun"-kissed skin:) In addition to full-body, they also offer partial body and face tans (helpful for winter when we don't show much skin anyway!). This is by far the best airbrush tan I have ever received and I have tried them all! Do not waste your time and money with any other product or service. My first appointment Lauren immediately put me at ease with her knowledge and professionalism. She gave a thorough review of her product and asked questions about what I wanted and things that had gone wrong in my previous spray tan experiences. She custom created and executed a flawless application unlike any other spray tan I've had. Since then, every other appointment I've had with her is consistent with the first. This is the only spray tan I've had that looks completely natural, actually washes out of my sheets, lasts longer than a week, and the scent (usually my biggest complaint) is light and pleasant. The business is run seamlessly; from a website that is easy to navigate, simple booking/cancellation online, and a follow up email or phone call with after care reminders and an offer to come back if the color feels too light. Lauren's passion for wellness is evident through the extensive knowledge she has on the products she uses, along with other skin products I have asked her opinion on. I came here after meeting Lauren, who also teaches yoga in the South End. She looked gorgeous, tan, and not overly crispy so I asked her where she got her amazing tan -- was she born with it? Was it a great vacation? Was it fake? Low in behold, she is Italian but she also does Pure Glow and gave me a great pitch on why I should try it, too, since I am Turkish and naturally darker but lose my color in the winter months in Boston. The good: +gorgeous space on Newbury St in the heart of back bay right on Dartmouth and Newbury. +private space where Lauren truly takes your time to explain everything, gives out her cell #, and also allows you to get level 1 and then choose to go up to the darker level 2 if you so please. +natural look - nothing about this place says orange. +packages and deals are offered, they also have all the essentials to maintain a tan. This place isn't overly sales-y either-- she even looked at the ingredients of my own Khiel's Lotion to check if it was good to use after their tan and she approved it which was great instead of selling me on their product only. I hope it lasts longer than 10 days but for now I am happy and am excited to wake up in the morning and see what it turns out like after a shower! I got the medium level tan even though I was superrr pale. I would probably get the level one next time as I got a little to "fake" dark for my liking and a couple people mentioned it Make sure you don't moisturize beforehand at all! I made the mistake of thinking it would be fine 4 hours before and my tan didn't hold as well to my legs. The quality of the spray tans I got was great. However it is pretty overpriced. $75 for a full body But after going there 4 times, I was 20 mins late (traffic and no parking) and there were 5 staff members at the desk yet they turned me away because they "didn't have time." It was quite frustrating as I drove 45 mins just to be turned away. And a spray tan takes 10 mins so it's a little ridiculous they "couldn't fit me it." I have gotten many spray tans for the past year here and overall I have been very happy. However, when I went last week for another, I had a terrible application. She asked me multiple times while we were getting ready to spray what color I wanted because she kept forgetting. We had to go over missed areas multiple times and had to keep blending different areas. I was open to seeing how it looked after I showered in the morning. However when it was washed off the color was very different then my past tans and I was patching and not blending in multiple places. I reached out to see if there was any way to get a refund, as I've normally had a great experience here. But $70 is a lot of money for a poor application. They said that they don't offer refunds and that these situations can just happen. It's unfortunate because I would love to give them another chance but after the poor application and poor customer service, I will not be returning. read more

I used to pay $45 back home in Seattle- but this place is almost $100 after you're done including tip. I used to go spray tanning all the time and never had an issue. I had an upcoming graduation so I decided to get a spray tan before hand. I saw Pure Glow on Newbury Street and thought they would be a good salon. Man was I WRONG. As soon as I walked in it was a horrible vibe. The spray tan artist was complaining about how many spray tans she had done that day. The receptionist was not friendly and got me confused with another customer. The artist sprayed me WAY darker than I had spoke with her prior to the session. I also noticed that my tan line was super off and mentioned it to her where all she said was "sorry". I did all the proper after care, like no soap and proper moisturizer, and after 1 day I had issues with my tan to say the least. The top layer of skin on my arms started to peel off and was painfully red and burning. This is one arm (both are like this) 3 days post tan!!!! It has increasing spread. I regret this and look terrible in my pictures and just want the tan to now come off. I should've trusted my gut when I first walked in and walked straight out. read more

Summary: I've been here twice, but probably won't go back again. Price point is high, and a less than premium result doesn't warrant it. Additional Detail: I've gone here twice. The first time I went in was AWESOME. Color was perfect, application was even, people were great. The second time was lackluster. On this second trip, the application and color were abysmal. Before leaving I noticed some very dark spots along my shoulder. The woman told me it was just a build up of the brozner and would wash out normally. This was not the case. After waiting for my tan to set, I ended up with giant spots along my shoulder line that sort of looked like hickeys. Upon closer inspection, I also had really dark marks along my wrists and neckline. Self tanning isn't going to be perfect--there are going to be telltale signs-- but this was unacceptable and looked as if it was done by an amateur. I emailed after 24 hours to express my dissatisfaction and was offered a discount the next time I come in. I pushed back asking for a partial refund because it was so bad and was told that they were a small business and could not do that. read more

This place does a good job and the women who work there are generally friendly and talented, but the cancellation policy is absurd. The company will charge you double just to move your appointment, even by half an hour if it's same day. Reality check: working people have variable schedules, and often their schedules change day-of. Even SoulCycle, which has a super-strict cancellation policy, will make an exception if you call in or had a work issue, or got sick, etc. Pure Glow makes no exceptions. Their inflexibility turned me from a happy customer to someone who's ready to try Femme Fatale down the street. In short: good, but watch out. read more

I am writing this review for the full body spray tan that I purchased for my 15-year-old daughter tonight. I would have to agree that all the Best of Boston awards are well deserved. The owner, who happened to be the person who actually spray tanned my daughter, is fantastic! She and her staff are professional and well educated in their product. She made my young daughter feel so comfortable with what could've been an awkward experience for a young girl. All I could hear from the waiting room was talking and laughing and then more laughing from behind the curtain. I just KNEW I had picked the right place for my daughters first spray tanning experience. I've had some horrible spray tan experiences in the past, so I was worried that I would come out looking really orange or uneven. That was NOT the case at all with pure glow!
