Well, that was me over 50 years ago except I never lost interest. I've been keeping fish and visiting fish stores around the country for my entire life. The people from World Of Fish who started RiverShore Aquariums have done a great job. Located not far from the original World of Fish, RiverShore has clean tanks, friendly and knowledgeable staff and they are super keyed in on planted tank setups. These days my tanks are relatively simple just to keep things easy, rocks and driftwood mostly, but I've been wanting to do a planted tank for a while. I know the basics but had some questions on substrate, plant selection and lighting for what is basically going to be a freshwater nanotank. The staff person who helped me was super knowledgeable, answered my questions and gave me some good advice for getting started. They had a good selection of different kinds of gravel as well as an assortment of driftwood and rocks. I liked that they have a table where you can do a little aquascaping trial and error before you make a final selection. The fish were high quality and appeared healthy. Most were smaller species suitable for planted tanks. I even discovered a new species that I had never heard of - anchor catfish. Super cool and perfect for my little nanotank. I know enough about fish and have been to enough fish stores to know which ones are really good. Rivershore is at the top of the list if you live in the Twin Cities, and especially if you're interested in giving planted tanks a try. Even if its plants aren't your thing or you are new to the hobby, I'd checkout Rivershore for your first aquarium.

Rivershore Aquariums is that friend: All the tanks are SO clean, and so perfectly lit, and all the fish are ready for their closeups. It's like an aquatic Parade of Homes in there -- 0% chance of the "Oh gosh, that fish looks so sick, should I mercy-buy it & set up a hospital tank & try to save it? Or should I not give this place my money?" experience. You should definitely give this place your money. They also sold me the sweetest, most industrious little pleco I've ever had in my life. I bought her as a bristlenose pleco, but she's secretly some kind of Turbo Pleco -- as in, my tank gets direct sunlight (can't be avoided), and it had the algae to match, but a week after I brought my new plec'ling home, I found myself asking a visitor, "Hey, you didn't clean the inside of the 55gal while you were here, did you?" And then we moved and happened to have a chintzy plastic betta fish tank that happened to appear when unpacking. Seed planted. So we spend an evening checking out if you pet shops in looking at betta's . Bought one for said chintzy fish tank for my 3 year old to have a fish and that set the ball rolling. I wanted my own fish too. But as selective as I am, just any ok' pretty betta wouldn't do. So in I went to this locall aquatic store with no idea what I'd find. My first thought?? This store looks kinda sketchy. And it does not smell pretty. It would be equivalent to a dive bar of the aquatic world. No-frills kind of store. Bare cement. No fancy bright decorations to be found. Just rows and rows of stacked fish tanks, piles of rocks, aquatic plants (that were actually IN tanks of water) and lots of special tree pieces make for aquariums. But the staff...they are AMAZING!! I mean, come on, I came in for a betta fish. Not really a high dollar sale for them. But they www really above and beyond sweet, helpful and not only answered all my uneducated betta fish questions but the guy Andy (I'm guessing the owner??) even told me some tips on how I can do this gorgeous betta tank thing even more economical and actually showed me how he cleans the filter on hIs pump instead of buying new filters! I left with a tall 2 gallon square aquarium (it was even on sale!!) and a chunk of wood that he gave me an idea of trimming it down to make a tree from to fit my pretty little tall square glass aquarium. Oh, and a live moss ball plant for my 3 year olds betta fish to play with. He told me exactly what to do with that chunk of wood over this next week (put it in hot water and soak it for a week) to prepare it for my tank so that when they find the perfect fish for me, it would be ready. (Well, I'm going back next week to buy little plants to the wood to make it look like an actual tree- his idea that he walked me thru on how to pull it off!) Yep, that's right, I didn't even leave with a fish. They were willing to search for just the right platinum white half moon rosetail betta for me. And even agreed to send me videos of the ones they find before I decide one it!!! I have never in my life experienced such AMAZING customer service!! These people are SO awesome!!! We drove home acclimated them to the tank, tested water prior to adding them and all levels were within guidelines. Less than 12 hours later all 5 are dead with fins disintegrating. At the moment the remaining fish in our tank appear to still be healthy. While the shop notes no refunds the complete lack of concern for the quality of product they sold and blame placed on the owner makes a bad business model. While the store was friendly and has a nice selection I would never purchase from here again because it's not as the name suggests a quality product.

I am only a freshwater keeper and New Wave Aquaria is exclusively saltwater, but I know enough to admire the beautiful fish, soft corals, and hard corals they have throughout their store. The fish and corals all appear to be super healthy, the staff were incredibly helpful, and if I were looking to get into saltwater this is exactly where I would be going. Sometimes I just run in to the store, but the food is not always in stock. (This is not a Tractor Supply issue, though. It is a producer issue. We feed our dogs Victor.) Checking online first saves me some trouble. One of the reasons that I buy my dogs' food exclusively at Tractor Supply is that their price is always the lowest around. With the store's discount card program, loyalty is rewarded. While it does give some special discounts, the biggest promotion is that you receive a small gift card amount after you spend a certain amount. Another reason that I buy my dog food at Tractor Supply is that I trust them. I especially trust the staff at the Prescott, WI location. They are so helpful and genuinely interested in having been of help! A rare quality in retail these days. The staff have grown to recognize me on sight well enough that I feel like a friend or family in the way that they greet me. I know that the dog food has been taken care of. In other words, I trust they did not leave a pallet outside too long. The store is the cleanest supply store that I have ever seen. The staff is constantly cleaning and shifting items. I trust that there are no mice gnawing little openings. But Tractor Supply is not just about dog food! I have found the warmest, softest socks for winter wear. They carry the pet safe ice melt that we prefer. Last time I needed the ice melt, they had just run out of stock because of the sale price they had it on. They were still so helpful! The staff told me where I could pick up ice melt. They even gave me directions to get to this completely other branded store.
