Tonight I had planned to do outdoor yoga with my friend but the yoga instructor didn't show up. I did a Pilates class elsewhere earlier in the day and after taking this class made me wonder why I don't come here more often. Great workout! I can't say enough about the gracious and knowledgeable owner and staff. There are clothes, snacks and socks (you need them), water available to purchase and most importantly TOWELS. The ladies that teach are dancers and they know their stuff. Kristi knows her stuff, and gives the most detailed instructions of all the instructors. Huge focus on form! The workout consists of a warm up, stretching, thigh, seat work, abs, cool down, and more stretching. You will shake, you will work, you will tone up, you will be encouraged. You don't have to be a dancer to attend Smart Barre (hello? Have you seen my dance moves?). I am by no means a dancer (In public!) and never felt intimidated or embarrassed. Except the days I'm so tired I can't remember left from right... yes, it's happened. I have been to several studios in the area. If the word BARRE is in the name, I've been there sweating my A$$ off. Smart Barre has THE most pleasant staff. They show you the moves and actually do them with you, not just walk around the room talking. It's ALL barre all the time, not a studio with a few classes a day. This is a legit workout. There are days I think Sara is trying to kill me. Sally will whip you into shape. Allie and Victoria will have your booty burning. I just can't rave enough. Excellent instruction, upbeat atmosphere, TOWELS!! love love love this studio!

Last year I went to Europe. Sitting in a plane for long hours inflamed my tailbone so that even sitting on the couch was painful. I had to sit on a donut pillow everywhere I went. As a total body workout, this class fuses principles of ballet, Pilates, and yoga to target body areas in which women struggle- the core, hips, thighs, seat and arms. A traditional ballet barre is used to help maintain balance and provide resistance, however, you will not need a tutu in this class to achieve the long, lean look of a dancer. In addition to the barre, light weights, a playground ball, and a cushy mat are used. An efficient, upbeat workout, you will find it a "smart" use of time.
