Barre is my favorite kind of workout. This studio is super cute. It's one big room with a mirror at the front of class. When you walk in, there is a counter to check-in at and a white board with all the equipment you need for the class that day. It's located in a strip mall so there is tons of easy and free parking in the lot out front. They have one single stall bathroom in the back right corner. They also have a water fountain. Mallory was my instructor for the day and was incredibly welcoming and helpful. She took the time to explain the class to me and suggested I sit up front so it was a bit easier to follow her. This class was a really fun challenge. She played music that matched the movements and I found myself shocked at how fast time went. They have great equipment here so you don't need to bring anything but yourself (no special socks needed for this one). I highly recommend checking out this studio!

Not going to lie, it IS hot - but that's what we pay for, right? Every class is heated to 98 degrees so you know exactly what to expect. Yugala and Power are definitely beginner friendly, especially because you can take breaks as needed - the teachers are very understanding, if not encouraging, if you take a break and come down to child's pose. On the other side of the coin, they are super motivating and there if you need them to get you through your class! The teachers are educated in anatomy and anatomical safety in poses and give helpful hands on adjustments. All of the classes are set to music that spans a ton of genres/decades/etc. The Hot Yoga Barre is doing what they do, it's different than any studio in Richmond, and they do it so, so well. Now I'm no professional yogi or advanced anything, but the instructors are respectful and kind while still helpful and constructively critical. The studio is CLEAN. Such a huge deal to me, and I didn't even realize until I saw another hot studio with carpet instead of the hard flooring. There is never any odor, even at the height of class. AND there is an immense student discount!! 275$ for the year or something like that when I've seen memberships as high as 1800.

I was out of town on a trip when I called to cancel, and they would not cancel my membership over the phone. It was a lengthy trip, so I got charged an additional 2 months for a membership simply because I was in a completely different state and they would not cancel my membership over the phone or even just send me an email cancellation option. You'd think, since we are almost in 2020, that they could figure out a way to accommodate people who need to cancel via phone or email. No. I had to wait until I returned and could physically go in to cancel - absolutely ridiculous, and I was charged for an additional 3 months because of that. It has been almost a year, and this still makes me upset. I will never go back to this studio due to what I feel was extremely poor customer service. I understand they have this noted on their webpage -- you'd better make sure you read everything before you sign up with them, is all I can say. Personally, I find it ridiculous and I'll find another yoga studio. Other than this issue, I actually enjoyed this studio and I would have highly recommended them to anyone. But after that -- I'm sorry, but I don't understand why someone can not cancel over the phone or via email. It's a bit ridiculous to require someone to personally go in and cancel, especially if they are in a completely different state. What would have happened if I had moved and forgotten to cancel? Would they just keep charging me and I would have to purchase a plane ticket solely to come and cancel my membership in person? It's almost 2020, people -- time to get into the digital age.

It's the little things that make this studio so special: the chalkboard with upcoming events and recognitions, the birthday board in back, the talks about stress and nutrition. Pure Barre has been such a positive part of my life - I feel supported the moment I arrive which this makes me want to pass these good vibes on to others in the community.

I was looking to get back into the swing of things after a decade-long hiatus since I quit dancing competitively, but wasn't sure where to start. Knowing how difficult it can be to find studios that offer dance classes for adults in most cities, I feel lucky that I did. I've never been a huge fan of traditional fitness classes and I've tried nearly all of them...Pilates, kickboxing, CrossFit, you name it. But I'm also not too keen on working out by myself at the gym because let's face it--it gets pretty boring. I wanted the social aspect of going to classes and meeting people who would hold me accountable to show up---and I knew my only shot at staying in shape was finding something fun that didn't feel like work. I used to find myself coming up with excuses to get out of other fitness classes that I had taken in the past but going to Turn is something I actually look forward to. It's become much more than a fitness routine for me--it's a community.
