I have never been turned away for having physical ailments until this studio today. I was told not to come in unless I sign a waiver saying I'm in good health with no disability or ailments. Idk anyone who doesn't have a physical ailment. I explained I wanted to join this studio to improve my health. Management couldn't care less and sent me away. I am going to try a closer studio instead. This obviously isn't the place for me. Or anyone else who is disabled. *Update: now that I have raised awareness about an unfair practice, now management decides to call me. When I spoke to Rachel she could have cared less about my concerns as I did not want to lie and sign a contract that would state I'm in good health and do not have a disability or physical ailments, when I do. Management did not get on the phone then. So I do not care to return a call. I did not receive an email. I simply will take my business elsewhere. Different locations have different owners and the other locations do not at all discriminate or make you sign a contract that you are in good health when you are not. I was very disappointed with the service at the Irvine location. The receptionist was rude and unhelpful, even though it was clear I was rushing and running slightly late to make it to class. She informed me that I had to purchase socks before joining. I explained that I only had Apple Pay, but she said they did not accept it. I asked if I could join the class and pay immediately afterward since I was already losing class time, but she refused and told me I could not participate unless I paid first. This level of customer service is not what I would expect. Additionally, charging $20 for a pair of socks feels excessive. Kind of struggling to write this review because while I had a pretty good workout, I think their 50 minute intro engage class could use some feedback. I have been working out consistently (Pilates and pole) for a few years and I found this "intro" class to be challenging and, at times, confusing. It's so important to understand how to cue correctly to prevent injury and unfortunately the instructor I had just wasn't very effective at this. Multiple times I looked around the room to see all of us in different positions and there were no hands on corrections to help folks move into the correct form. I really value understanding the correct technique so I thought this was a missed opportunity. The only reason I could understand how to correct myself and my form was because another instructor was taking the class with me so I would look at them when I was confused. For someone who is maybe just getting in to working out, I could see this class being rather defeating and would not encourage me to come back. It's just not a true "intro" class where you are walked through the basics. To her credit, the instructor had amazing energy and did a great job keeping us all engaged and excited. I also like this studio generally, it's very clean and there's plenty of parking. Hopefully I will come back and try a few different instructors until I find the right fit. This studio has very cute stuff and the sales could be worth taking a look even if you're not in a class. However, that's nearly impossible. Their posted hours of business on a Monday are that they open at 6am. I walk by in the morning and wanted to look at their sale items and a few of things, but they were closed, at 645am. I came by today and they clearly have a class going on, but the doors are locked. So clearly they don't cater to anyone not taking a class which is unfortunate. I guess I'll just have to take my business elsewhere since you can't even access this studio to look around. read more

For any newcomers to the area, your first class with Pure Barre - Irvine is complementary. I signed up for them through ClassPass and I think I prefer this Irvine location over the Tustin location. This location is located off Sand Canyon and the 405. In that busy plaza they are on the side with Chase Bank and Nekter. For your first visit, I recommend you arriving at least 10 minutes early to sign off on the typical studio waivers. They have studio equipment but you will need closed-toed grip socks (required) and water. The front has the receptionist desk upon entrance. To the right there are cubbies. I really like that the cubbies had varying sizes since I had a big purse with me and it wouldn't have fit well into the standard size cubbies. Wish was I able to take a photo but it got crowded so I didn't want to be inconsiderate. There was also a water refill station next to the cubbies. To the left of the entrance there was plenty of merchandise. Leggings, tops, grip socks, face masks, plenty of things to browse waiting for your next class. Through the doors you get the studio space. Mirrors on the front and side of the studio room. The room was painted white so it looks very open and large. To the back they have all the equipment. It varies depending on your instructor that day. I took their Classic class with Amanda and we needed weights, bands, a ball and towards the end mats. I really like Amanda's energy! She was super upbeat and motivational. If you've been to other Pure Barre classes the format is generally the same since they are a franchised studio. For folks who like a consistent format, it's really nice. For the classic class is a low impact full body barre workout with high intensity isometric movements designed to improve flexibility while toning your body. I can definitely see myself coming back here for future work outs. This location is further away from me than the Tustin location but I like the studio space and overall vibes a lot more. The instructor is pretty hands on, which is really helpful since this is my first time trying a barre workout. This locatoin has plenty of parking. I booked this class through Classpass and accidentally booked a intermediate class. So i would double check the type of classes and recommended beginner levels. You have to place your personal belongings in a cubby at the front near the receptionist. Since it's Irvine, probably no issues with theft, but you never know. The workout takes place in a mirrored room with barre bar on each wall. I found the room small for the class size, it seems cramped when we went to the barre. In addition, the class uses props to really focus on balance and resistance. I was shaking during every move and found it more difficult than reformer Pilates. The teacher spent little time actually demonstrating in front of the class, instead was wandering around into the supply room, putting stuff away, etc. hard to know what the moves are with no one demonstrating it consistently in front of the class. I have been taking barre for 3+ years at this studio. There is so much to love about the workouts, instructors and community at barre. It is one of the most enjoyable things in my life. Who can really say that about a workout? The classes are all unique in their own way and definitely challenging everytime. I've taken 500+ classes and don't ever see myself leaving. The results are the real deal, the instructors are so kind, uplifting and helpful, and everytime I leave I know I got a 100% great full body workout. I went with a friend that wanted to sign up and got me a free-trial class. we went on Monday. The process was a bit confusing for the person trying it out. My friend had to input my info in to get me a free class. I can understand the process for this. Once she did, I received an email confirming they received my email address and details. Second email came to confirm my class date/time. When you open up the email, there's no address of the location, no links to click on to find much info. Barely any info on what to expect, what to wear/bring to the class. I had to ask my friend to send me the details. Even on their website, it's hard to find what you need. You'd think the basic info would be readily easy to find. I think they should look into updating their website to be more user friendly. I tend to not have interest with websites you have to hunt for info. Takes a lot out of your busy clicks. A few days before the class, I received a call confirming my attendance. On the day of the class like super early, I received another call to confirm I was coming that night. Arriving to the class, if you don't have the Gripe Yoga Socks you can't enter the classroom. I wish they let you know advance how much the socks were. The basic ones was $18 (pricey) for someone who doesn't know if they want to sign up or not. I think they should have a less pricey options for those maybe never coming back. Our instructor, Sofia (Sophie) was really nice. She asked if I had any type of injuries she needed to be aware of so she could help to modify the workout. She was GREAT with showing me what to do to avoid additional injuries. Thumbs up for her and her training style. I definitely got a great workout from her class. She has a great music compilation, not too loud and just the right beats to keep you going. Her communication was easy to understand and she helped everyone get the positions right. Does it work! You betcha! I felt sore in places I never knew could get sore! It was a good painful sore as they really work the isolated areas. I see what the hype and benefits are. I'm not a huge fan of Yoga but I do like this style of workout better. VERDICT - I liked it a lot. Good workout and the hour went by very fast. Giving them a 3 star cuz their website sucks and their confirmations didn't have details that you should have. Please change your website to be more user-friendly. SPACE - Clean and simple on the aesthetic. At the end of the class, the instructor walked around with cleaning wipes to sanitize the equipment/mat you used during the class. I cleaned my stuff well, but not sure if everyone else does. I recommend you cleaning it before the class if you are a germaphobic. Their Barre class is a great or should I say 'Tucking' awesome workout! If you're a stranger to Barre, it might take you a couple of classes to get the hang of the isometric pulses. But it definitely strengthens your core, lifts your butt and tones your legs. The music is loud and upbeat. The pace of the class is fast and the instructor does not have time to correct people's form and doesn't always do the poses so it's hard to mimic. However, the key is to try out different instructors. My first experience was mediocre but I'm glad I went back and tried a different instructor. She was pleasant and attentive to people's postures. I enjoyed her class! Towards the end of the class, the instructor walks around placing a spray bottle and wash cloth by each station to sanitize their equipment and mats. I've moved around quite a bit, through that and travel have been to over 15 different studios and have lost count of the number of different instructors. The staff and clients are all so friendly and inviting! There are 3 class choices you can take. Classic, Reform and Empower. If you've never taken the class, they offer a Foundations class every so often for beginners. This is by far the best workout I've tried. If you sign up for just one month, make sure its in their 'notes' that you only want to purchase 1 month. This review is from the perspective of someone who doesn't work out but wanted to give the idea a shot. I wanted a workout that required minimal "effort" and maximum efficiency (not fat, not fit, my goal is to get more toned and incorporate a sustainable workout lifestyle) hence barre suited my needs. LOCATION: Very good plaza, right next to Nekter Juice Bar and Starbucks, both well known staples, and Tea Maru, a house-made-boba shop that wasn't very good the one time I tried. (Will give it another shot and update.) PARKING: Easy, ample parking right in front. COMMUNICATION: Monica (the owner) and Alani are exceptional. They quickly answer any questions you have, both via email and phone. WORKOUT: My favorite thing about Pure Barre is that there are stretches (and time for rest+water) in between each set. Extremely important for someone who isn't used to working out. Some other places I went to didn't have this. Also, everyone is extremely motivated and it pushes you to try your own best. STUDIO: Clean and efficient. During COVID times you have markings on the floor to indicate your 6 feet wide area around you. Lighting depends on instructor. Equipment all provided, which is very convenient. (Some places required me to bring my own mat, not a fan.) DID I SIGN UP?: Yes, I did in the end because I just wanted a set routine that I can see myself maintaining regularly. This was probably my best shot at it. My first class (Bahareh) played a huge role in it (see section on instructors below), and the plaza location helped a lot too. CLASS TYPES: This location has enough Foundation classes that I felt would be suitable for me. If I'm not wrong, the order of difficulty is Foundation, Classic, Pure Empower, Pure Reform. CLASS TIMES: Barre everyday, which is great since my biggest qualm about Equinox is they don't have enough barre classes. Weekdays multiple morning classes as well as late afternoon/evening classes. Weekends only morning classes. INSTRUCTOR: THIS VARIES. - BAHAREH made all the difference in my decision to continue. I took my free trial Foundation class with her and she kept the workout challenging while keeping the newcomer in mind. She picked sets that had a beginner version while also allowing for veterans to modify it to harder versions to suit their needs. Best of both worlds. She also helped me fix my stance/position as required, while also demonstrating and making sure I understood what was going on. Very good teacher, highly recommended. Also very motivational for when you feel your muscles dying. - JENNA: If you are a veteran you will love her; if you aren't, look elsewhere. She filled for a Foundation class I took and I'd like to point out that some people take a FOUNDATION class for a reason. The Pure Barre veterans commented after class about what a good workout it was and how they didn't expect that from a Foundation class. Meanwhile, I am stuck with a class I didn't enjoy because I either can't keep up or the class was too difficult with zero modifications available to new weaklings such as yours truly. Also, she didn't help, direct, or correct any of my positions despite me visibly struggling to keep up and knowing I'm doing some positions wrongly (because I don't feel the muscle burn in the right area). Overall, I'm sure she is a great teacher, it was a good workout. Just wouldn't recommend for people new to barre or new to working out. - Will update with other instructors as I try out their classes. Figured it'd help other newcomers interested in booking classes. (I wish someone could've written me a guide.) MEMBERSHIP: The membership price on the plaza website is outdated and they emailed in to change it. Their communication skills are very timely and top notch as they called to clarify the situation. Overall, I am now fairly convinced that I received a good offer, usually available during festive times or if you sign up quickly. Current prices are set at $89 4x/month, $159 8x/month, and $199 unlimited. $189 if you opt for the annual contract. Cancellation policy 30 days notice which is fairly nice since you don't have to sign a year long contract. Overall, I was honestly too lazy+impatient to try out many other places and this place beat the only other place I tried. To be fair, I do think its pros outweighs its cons. The environment also makes you push yourself while emphasizing that it is "your workout, just do your own best" which I do believe in because I'd like to not pass out in the middle of class or get berated for something I truly physically can't accomplish yet. I thoroughly enjoyed my free session and immediately signed up for the new customer's unlimited month pass for $100 (usually $225.) They also offer prepaid package seasons at a discount price (valid for a year.) Note: if you're coming here from work or need to change, there is a dressing curtain in the lobby if the bathroom isn't free. Also, if you really enjoy the music (like I did,) you can download the monthly playlist from their website. I love this class because it isn't crowded like 24 Hour Fitness and the instructors really want to help you, especially with you technique and form. Then when you try to cancel, they make it as hard as possible, calling over the phone is not enough, they send you a form to sign, saying you must be charged for yet ANOTHER month and they also ask for a membership number, which is no where to be found on the app. Would never recommend this business to anyone I cared about. Wanted to try barre for the first time and I had some credits on ClassPass so thought I'd try it out. To start I was already a little frustrated by the fragrance plus in. I know the smell is nice to some but for others it can be bothersome will deep breathing. I felt the class was boring, very boring. Didn't really get a good stretch and workout... Otherwise it is $25 for one class, so kinda pricey. Make sure you bring socks to wear. I'd recommend wearing a tank instead of a t shirt. No midriffs or shorts, so keep your skanky workout clothes at home. Exercises seemed more focused on the butt, abs, and legs. There was a little on the arms, but not a whole lot. There were new and regular girls here, so don't be scurrred to go if it's your first time. Everyone just works at their own pace. I def. was feeling the burn in my butt and legs! ***There was this girl in class whose ball kept popping out from between her thighs during some of the exercises. She kept trying to hold the pose while nonchalantly grabbing her ball. During some leg and core work, you're supposed to hold this ball between your legs to work out your thighs at the same time. She was also sweating bullets doing some of the core work, looking around at the other girls who seemed to be breezing through the exercises. I bet she thought she was pretty fit until this class because she did kickboxing, yoga and hiked on a regular basis and here she was huffing and puffing through this pure barre stuff. I went to a Pure Barre "Love your Body event." It was free for the class if you (new members only) sign up in advance. Parking is plentiful. The studio is located next to the juice bar in Quail Hill. Once inside, you just sign a waiver and give your name to the receptionist. They have a small changing room in the back and cubbies so you can store your keys, purse and shoes. You just need to grab some weights, resistance bands, and a ball for the workout. I had a great workout. We pulled, stretched, squatted our way into a pure sweat. What I found odd was that the floors are carpeted but they still ask you to wear toe socks. The workout varies from standing at the barre to floor and mat work. I worked my core, legs and arms. It was just the right level of intense. At the end of class, they announced that I had won the raffle for a free week of classes so I'll be checking out another class soon. Pure Barre uses a pilates-ballet fusion technique in their workouts, so part of the time you're on the floor using light weights, a band, and a 5-lb workout ball, and the other half of the time you're doing work against the wall holding a bar. The place is super clean, and the staff are very friendly. I was, however, very intimidated by the model-looking women that walked into the class. I took a class with Chelsea, and she was awesome! I wonder if all the teachers here are as good as her. She was super friendly, and remembered my name throughout class. She introduced me to the equipment and placed me near her because she knew it was my first time and didn't want me to get lost in the workouts. I couldn't help but immediately like her. The workouts focus on tiny, focused movements that literally work out every muscle... even the ones you never knew you had! I was sore from head to toe the next day and I think I'm in decent physical shape. To give you an idea, I've ran in 6 half marathons and am running a full marathon in June. I also do yoga. I loved the music selection they chose - every beat matched the movements we were doing. Not a single minute of the hour-long class was wasted. This class totally kicked my butt. Within the first 15 minutes my legs were shaking uncontrollably and my arms were ready to give in. Today was my first time trying this studio, I've taken barre at other studios before but I would say I'm a beginner. Socks have been optional at other studios that I've been to but here they will make you pay $18 for grip socks and you cannot be barefoot. Which is fine, I bought the socks and was ready for a good class. Being at a new studio comes with different techniques and teaching styles, you would think you have an instructor there to help show you the moves and guide you through the class. That was not the case. The instructor just said over the mic what to do the entire class and barely showed us.. sometimes wouldn't even be in the room for a few minutes but still telling us what to do over the mic. I was so confused and having to look around to the other classmates so see what they were doing and even some of them were confused on what exercise we were supposed to be doing. She was talking really fast and I could barely understand her. We come to class to be shown, improve our technique and have an engaged class. I hope not every instructor is like this here but she genuinely did not seem to want to be there and therefore neither did I. read more

I'm just about finished with my first week and I have to say that I have fallen in love. I did cardio barre for a couple years and it was a great workout don't get me wrong, but not as great as pure barre. Cardio Barre was very fast and it tired you out very quickly. Pure barre goes at a manageable speed yet works out every muscle in your body. You definitely feel like you've worked out but not like you're about to die. What I like the most is that it's a different workout every class. You don't fall into the routine of doing the same exercises every time. The instructors are all great, they come around and correct your form if you need it, are constantly giving you positive feedback, and motivating you throughout the entire class. And the girls at the front desk are super friendly and helpful. You get your first week free and your first month at a discounted price of $99, BUT if you go to 3 classes in your first week you get a $20 discount on top of that. They also have monthly specials and a student discount. It's obviously a little pricey there's no doubt about that but I think that if you stay committed then it will be worth it. Love pure barre! I have been going on and off for years, and always end up coming back because IT REALLY WORKS. I always see a difference in my body with just 3 classes. I feel longer and leaner when I go consistently. I'm really glad they have a lot of different class times (especially mornings) cause no matter what your work schedule is for the day, they'll have a class time that makes sense. I have a ClassPass and sometimes I take classes at pure bar. The studio is pretty small and they pretty much have a routine for their workout. There are band, ball and weights that you use during the workout. Also there is a bar all around the room that they design the workout using that bar. Make sure you take your bottle water because they don't have water dispenser and have to buy water at the front desk. Pure bar is a combination of yoga and Pilate. Most of your muscles are involved they start a class with arms, then legs and they end it with abs. Bahareh's classes are the best by far. She is very nice, motivating and energetic. Most of the time her classes are full, so make sure you reserve her class in advance. One thing is that if you get there late they don't let you get in, so be careful! read more

I've been coming here off and on for years now. I recently signed up for a few months and so glad I did! It is an AWESOME full body work out, hitting all the right trouble areas, with core throughout. I was especially happy to discover Bahareh's class! She is AMAZING! Not only does she lead a high energy, FUN and totally challenging class, she is SO MOTIVATING! I seriously feel like I can take on the world after her class. Her inspiration and positivity carries beyond the workout, plus she is funny, is so real and clearly loves what she does. I know I am not alone in my opinion - her classes are PACKED! Bahareh is the BOMB! I take a lot of group classes and I really appreciated her Pure Reform class. I loved the combination of traditional barre with resistance bands. Her cues were on point and she was really good coming around and adjusting forms. The music was so good too. I will definitely be back to take her classes. read more

Came in for a free class on Saturday for their anniversary special. I've taken barre lessons from other studio over a year ago. OMG! I love it all over again. Instructor is very attentive and encouraging for new students. Beside yoga mat, and weights, this is the first time I've taken a barre class using resistant bands too. Pretty unique. My legs felt so jelly and shaking during the class. So many times I just wanted to stop but everyone in the class were so pump and motivated. So I just kept going. I can feel a little soreness on the next day but not too bad. CLASS Work on all muscle group. Medium size but not too crowded. Instructor is attentive and come to check and correct everyone's form. My only complain is that the class is kind of expensive, it costs about $25 each or $200+ a month. There are special for new clients on their website or Groupon. Studio Clean, towels available, no locker but there are storage cubes, changing room but no shower available Parking Parking lot, plenty of parking available Tips: Definitely have to wear no slip socks! Don't be swayed by the positive reviews. They ran a promotion that if you gave them a Yelp review they'd give you a free class. There is supposed to be a limit on class size, but there always seem to be several people who get snuck in over the cap. And, they stand right in front of or next to you so you end up hitting or kicking them when doing extension or floor work. The last class I went to was in September, because I couldn't bear the temperature. This isn't hot yoga, for Christ's sake. I'm not sure if they're trying to save on utilities, but it made for a very uncomfortable and unenjoyable workout. 90% of the instructors were great. The last few classes I attended, though, were taught by someone who was brand-spanking new and clearly not ready to fly on her own. I recently moved and asked for a refund on the 30 classes I had purchased in advance, and the owner refused, citing her "no refund" policy...which apparently is only posted in the studio for in-person purchases (not online where I purchased the package or in the email confirmation). After a lot of grief, she ended up refunding some, but not all, of my classes. A few positives: easy online reservations, good music, and convenient parking. The workout itself is really good, but I'd rather buy the videos and work out in my home without the company of sweaty, space-invading strangers. read more

WOW what a workout! I've been trained in ballet for 16 years in addition workout at the gym regularly and totally underestimated this 55 minute packed intense class! I'm so sore and its a great full body workout! Fun music, and I can see that if taken consistently this will transform your body and you will see results of having a leaner toned body :) The exercises really focus on your thighs, butt and abs :) I still thought a lot of the exercises were challenging for my body, though most of them were very familiar from my ballet and pilates classes. This place is suuuuper pricey though! I can't believe a single drop in class is 25 bucks... thats more expensive than an hour and a half ballet class at a studio! I'm so coming back here though! I want to check out the other instructors and compare the classes. Maybe invest in a package for over the summer. This is unlike any other workout class I've taken! highly recommended! read more

ASS CRAMPS. I've been to one class, and all I can say is ASS. CRAMPS. They mean it when they say "Pure Barre works specific muscles groups to the point of exhaustion." During a set at the bar that involved teeny leg lifts targeting the rear, my supporting leg on both sides wigged out and decided to lock into a chain of ASS CRAMPS. Which tells me how little my ass has been doing all this time during my 50-60 work week spent in front of a computer. If you are a fan of "no pain, no gain," and a class structure where things are going so fast you have no time to whine or complain or think about where else you could be and what else you could be doing, Pure Barre is for you. Bought a living social deal for 6 classes and got my butt kicked. Didn't really know what to expect but I was pleasantly surprised. The workouts really push you and your legs are DEFINITELY shaking and you are SUPER sore the next 2 days. My only gripe about this place is that it gets SUPER clique-y like we're all in high school and some of the instructors only focus on praising the regulars instead correcting new students. I kinda felt like I was doing some of the exercises wrong but no one came around to help fix me. I'm definitely looking for more deals as the classes get really pricey but I do believe if you stick with it your body will look amazing. read more
