I will say, the work out was great. The instructor clearly cared, and the people involved wanted the best- but for sound-sensitive people, the microphone the instructors have to use is absolutely awful. The sound quality of the microphone is so bad, it makes the instructor sound like a pilot on Spirit Airlines, and it made it very difficult to follow the flow. I want to come back, but I cannot with the current sound system. read more

This place is so much more than a studio! I adore this Pure Barre community- let me tell you why. My husband and I moved to Seaside about a year and a half ago- we had some immediate family in the area, but no friends. After some years spent feeling pretty isolated during COVID, we were overjoyed to be near family! But with the move came other challenges. We spent a lot of nights trying to sort out how to make friends - in our late 30's (my husband) and early 40's (me), both working from home, in a new city. A neighbor of my mother-in-law was throwing a holiday house party, and my husband and I basically begged an invite. We were so excited! And after 3 glasses of wine, the subject of Pure Barre came up. Our charming hostess (who is now a dear friend!) sang its praises, and encouraged us to try a Pure Barre class. (I may or may not have proved to the group I could touch my toes- as one does after 3 glasses of wine.) And the whole group eagerly agreed to meet up for an introductory class. The rest, as they say, is history! I was hooked from Day 1. And I am not a joiner. Or a gym person. Or a class person. I'm a die-hard solo hiker. Who recognized some core strengthening could be a really good thing. And let me just tell you- I LOVE this Pure Barre Carmel-by-the-Sea community!! It's so very much more than an exercise class. It's support, and joy, and health, and movement, and strength- and most of all, it's connection. Leslie, supported by an incredible and inspiring group of instructors, has created real magic here. The workouts and instructors are amazing. I have made this my main source of exercise and love the way the choreography changes all the time. I have a shoulder injury and a fractured L5 and they have been great at helping me find modified versions of what they are doing. I'd highly recommend you check them out. Take a class and you will be hooked!! That is, once you've gotten over your initial soreness. (It doesn't last forever, promise.) I took a class through a friend, received a discounted rate for awhile and then took the leap and now go 5 days a week! I cannot say I like one instructor over another because I love the different instructors' styles and what they bring to my workout. I appreciate the subtle (and sometimes not so subtle) reminders from them that make a huge difference in the workout. The studio is gorgeous and large so that I never feel cramped or uncomfortable. And you are not too old or young to take a class at this studio and I love seeing my own progress take shape on my body and throughout the workout. These people are always celebrating a birthday, Monday morning workout, St, Patrick's Day, engagement, milestone # class, and just about anything that they can! So, put on your sticky socks and come be part of this amazing community! read more

This place had the standard barre routine except the music was so loud you couldn't hear any of the instructions from the trainer. I mean, so loud I almost got a nose bleed. Not even embarrassed to plug my ears, ridiculous. Everyone who attends these classes will need hearing aids by age 40. Also, the trainer did not guide or help me in any way - even though I was new and one of the oldest members of class. All in all, a psychosis-inducing experience. read more

I have to agree with the first reviewer. I was interested in trying out the new Pure Barre here in town. I've been to the Pure Barre in San Francisco and Seattle branch and they were by far the best. I've tried the ones in Los Gatos, Pleasanton and they were just ok. It all depends on how great or not the instructors are. I signed up to try out a free class. Then I was repeatedly receiving annoying phone calls and text messages from the staff I had to block their numbers. The studio has a corporate feel, it's set up just like all the other branches. Everyone was friendly and greeted me as I walked in except the manager. Interesting it was the manager whom I received most of the annoying phone calls never bothered to greet me or the friend I was with. She was busy talking and laughing with her staff. You don't use a mat until you're given one towards halfway or the end of the workout so you are doing planks on the hard rubbery black floor. Which was not comfortable nor was it sanitary. The instructor who's new to barre and it was her first class to teach. She did really try her best, she seemed sweet but in dire need of more training. She seemed lost....She was giving out moves without pre warning on the next move or without much instructions or tips on the correct posture or form. She did try to explain how to tuck and what down/up an inch meant. In theory it may sound easy but not easy in practice in how to tuck. She never paid attention to anyone's movement or made any corrections. Barre is no way effective if you don't engage a certain body part, it's all about the correct posture and form. Your whole body is involved in Barre and it takes mental focus. Im no expert but Ive taken enough classes for 3 years and I've been with different instructors but I've also had the wonderful opportunity to have learned from some of the superb ones that were so outstanding who've set the bar(re) so high that makes difference in your barre experience and results. Whatever you do, don't give these guys your contact information! I've had to unsubscribe from four separate email lists they've put me on. I've had to ask them twice not to text me and then they started calling me at my office. Their business habits are unethical at best. Super shady. The instructors are brand new and lack anatomical knowledge to assist students. This is all without stating the fact that the flooring is akin to a brillo pad and is terrible for one's hands, knees, and feet (not to mention wholly unhygienic). There is no need to attend a class here since there are clean, quality and independently owned and operated studios on the Monterey Peninsula. read more

Ok so let me just start off by saying I tried this class really thinking it's not for me. I'm obese and far from fit. However I have never been to a place where I have felt so encouraged, supported and motivated to grow. Shelly is my instructor and I can not say how much I adore her! I still need to modify but she pushes me to just do MY best and I already feel stronger. I have already recommended a few friends to just try it because I know they too will love it. The only down fall is cost. It's a bit pricey and I wish I could afford to go more often but just not feasible. Over all great class, fantastic instructor and kick A$$ workout! read more

I've now attended over 100 classes with PB and love all of the instructors and the sense of community here. It doesn't matter where you are in your fitness journey- you're always welcome and able to modify and adjust and do what works for you. At the same time the workouts are always changing slightly, which keeps you on your toes and always pushes you!
