I had the pleasure to meet the founder Arianna who was checking in guests and Melody was the instructor for the class that I took. She walked around the room at the beginning asking each guest if they have ever taken a reformer class before and if there were any injuries to be aware of. This was my first time taking a reformer Pilates class and Melody did an amazing job at thoroughly explaining all the components of the equipment and exercises. She walked around the room and made hands on adjustments (with permission). Grit + tonic is offering quite a few founders sale deals. I got my first class for $41 which is not the "cheapest" Pilates studio that I've seen in the area but the cost for the intimacy seems fair to me. Overall, I had a great time here and would come back.

Here's my story: Signing up January 2021 as my New Years resolution was a no brainer. I had gained over 100 lbs since 2018! Initially, I didn't want to spend almost $500 with not being fully committed, but for my health and being a couple years to 40 I knew carrying all this excess weight was not doing anything for my future other than getting one foot closer to the grave. When I began, COVID-19 was full blown and Monterey county was still in the purple tier. We had masks and were outdoors everyday five days a week at 5am! I was so out of shape. Couldn't jump, couldn't burpee couldn't jog. Here I am going into my FIFTH challenge over 90lbs lighter! I can do a burpee, sprint and jump like a frog! I never regret one day of this challenge and this program. I never regret the workouts. I never regret getting back my health. I have a total of 7 challenges to complete, but I will succeed. I noticed the common courtesy of almost all the users cleaning their workout equipment their handles in the seats in the seatbacks with this infected when they were finished with their use of the machine I thought that was really indicative of the kind of people using the gym and taking care of it and making sure that other people comfortable after they use. Very classy if you want a trainer, you can hire one if you can go with a buddy and have them show you how to use the equipment, but if you get stuck, there are staff members on hand to help you with any questions that you have. I highly suggest you consider this site in the Del Monte center.

I stopped and had a Tide Pod beer -- obviously NOT an actual Tide Pod, because apparently we're supposed to be responsible adults now -- but that beer was cold, refreshing, and hit the damn spot. Then I found an Oreo funnel cake... and HOLY HELL. That thing was FANTASTIC. Crispy, sweet, loaded with Oreo goodness, and exactly the kind of food that makes you completely forget that you were supposed to be making responsible choices. I don't know who came up with the idea of putting Oreos on a funnel cake, but that person deserves a damn trophy. And then there were the sea lions! Those guys were putting on their own show, barking and carrying on like they were the headliners and WE were the tourists. Meanwhile, I've got my APBT service dog standing there looking at them like, "So THESE are the weird dogs everyone keeps talking about?" I swear my pit bull and those sea lions were having a silent conversation. The sea lions were making all kinds of noise, my dog was watching them like they had completely lost their minds, and I was standing there thinking, "Great... now my dog thinks he's at a family reunion." ‍ I also had my APBT service dog with me, and once we got him a wristband identifying him as a service dog, he was welcomed and had no problems being with us. ‍ I really appreciated that. Being able to take my service dog somewhere and actually enjoy myself without any unnecessary hassle makes the experience THAT much better. The whole place had that classic boardwalk vibe -- people everywhere, rides, food, noise, sea lions, dogs that aren't dogs, and enough temptation to make your wallet start sweating before you even realize you've spent money. Honestly, I had a BLAST. The beer was good, the Oreo funnel cake was freaking fantastic, the sea lions were hilarious, my pit bull was welcomed, and now I already want to go back. Cash is LEGAL TENDER and should ALWAYS be accepted EVERYWHERE. Some cities, like San Francisco, have banned cashless businesses. They will still take cards, but they HAVE to accept our cash. It is not easy to find if you are using Google maps. Upon entering the space, I wasn't sure where the front of the studio was. The entryway extends along one side where you place your belongings. I had to be guided to the mats and tools. The large space has uneven floors that might be radiant heated. There is a loose check in process wherein you sign a piece of paper. Although we had registered online, no one ever asked us if we had done so, nor did they confirm our attendance by checking. The first class we attended was taught by a substitute. We set up against the wall for this Therapeutic Hatha practice. The sequence was fine, the teacher was nice and she used the props in creative ways. I modified as I needed to and felt the overall experience was good. The second class was with a male teacher. It was titled as "Hatha Yoga," but it felt much more like an ashtanga style class in regard to the posturing and cues. The teacher got our attention at the beginning by saying something like, "We're three minutes past start time, get settled so we can begin at a reasonable time." There were no introductions or any establishment of connection. He did not greet us as we arrived, check in, nor provide guidance for setting up. He directed us into the first posture, poorly explaining how to use the tools to set it up. As experienced practitioners, at first we felt like the practice had a good vinyasa krama. Then, we all agreed, it's like someone grabbed the wheel and turned it completely off course. The cueing was unclear (he would say "inhale your right leg," and provide no other guidance). The asana sequence did not feel good. The teacher didn't appear to have an awareness of the bodes or needs of those attending the class. Following the closing of the class, the group all said, "Thank you David," at which point we learned his name. While I may return to this studio, I will defintely be doing so with discernment after my experience. I visit Carmel often and have a friend there who is searching for a studio. She has decided this is not the one for her. However, as I said, the teachers and studio have potential to create a truly special place to practice in Carmel (plus you can get donuts and/or cheese afterward).

It was 10am and there I was with 3 other people and no instructor. The class was canceled. I wasted my last morning in Carmel and was not going to wait 90 minutes for my brunch reservation which cost me $32. This is very unprofessional, disappointing and a waste of my time.

The Monterey studio is sun drenched (something out of a catalogue) and the beautiful windows open so you can feel a light breeze on your face during your practice. The Carmel studio is intimate and perfect for the Barre After Dark class (candlelit slow and intentional). Arianne really cares about your experience in a way that just isn't prevalent in fitness. She's authentic. Other students are helpful and excited to be there. Carmel Barre will be the highlight of your week.

The instructor was knowledgeable, calm, and easy to follow, guiding transitions clearly throughout. The space was clean and spacious, with dressing rooms, bathrooms, and secure cubbies. Being a novice, I felt comfortable and at ease with Tesia, my pilates intructor at Pilates Studio of Carmel. She demonstrates what she would like me to do which is great since I'm a visual learner. It was my first pilates lesson but I've spent most of my younger years taking lessons (mostly tennis) and then instructing myself and her style is very professional yet she creates a warm inviting atmosphere. Tesia is sweet, patient and overall a superb instructor. The studio itself is in a prime location in Carmel by the Sea and there are several windows giving it an open, clean and airy vibe. I look forward to taking many more lessons with Tesia there. Oh and Tesia is a hottie too! Haha! I strive to be as fit as her some day.

I signed up, followed the instructions in the email, and showed up. There's plenty of parking on the street or in the parking lot behind the yoga studio. Upon arrival I met Sherrie, who informed about where to setup and the props we'd be using for the class. They have all the props you need. Instruction during the class was clear and easy to follow. It was a very clean studio. Overall, the class was perfect for the level I was looking for, which was gentle yoga. It seems the class is made up of regulars, whom were very friendly and welcoming.
