I did hundreds of Pure Barre classes a decade ago in Los Angeles, prior to my wedding. Three kids later, I was staying in Boston for a month and went regularly to the brand new beautiful studio on Harvard St. Amelia and the rest of the team are incredible instructors. She knows just the right corrections. I found Pure Barre to be more effective for me than Pilates reformer for rebuilding my core and achieving lean muscles. In addition, there is a really lovely community at the classes. Many are affliated with the Longwood medical center. I will definitely be back every time I am in town. read more

I've taken a couple classes here it's always a great workout! Aimee is my fav, 10/10 instructor always helpful and inspiring

One star on communication and customer service. I am trying to activate a membership through my health insurance, but the studio has not returned my multiple emails or phone calls over the past few weeks. I am hoping that his review gets their attention so that I can properly review the actual classes and facility. read more

I have ClassPass and I take barre all around the city: i've done Barre Groove, Barre3, etc. My first class at Pure Barre was pretty good so I went back, but my second time was another story... I forgot to pack socks, and after asking my coworkers if they had an extra pair, I rushed to class straight from work, a bit late. I went in barefoot and immediately was told that for sanitation reasons I had to buy the $18 socks that they sold. For what people pay for classes, it seems stupid to charge almost $20 for socks. Maybe other people are cool with blowing this amount on...a pair of socks, but i'm too economical for that on principle. Maybe other studios do this too but it's honestly a stupid practice. If socks are the only equipment that is really mandatory, studios could just lend out and wash socks, as part of the already high class fee. Overall I was just turned off by the experience, left the class and probably won't ever go back. read more

Went to the very first barre class offered by this location at 7:10 this morning. I was up far earlier than I ever am (read: grad students study until 4 am and sleep until noon). The studio is clean and comfortable. The storage cubbies (not lockers) are small but will hold a jacket and other small personal items. I think they could have come up with a better solution for storing shoes (it's a small area beneath the cubbies), but I guess it's adequate. The actual barre room is spacious with enough room for about 20 participants. This studio provides you with free weights (2lb, 3lb and 5lbs), a ball, a stretching band, and a mat for floor exercises. This morning's workout was lead by Amy, who is energetic and helpful by ensuring sure your alignment and postures are held properly throughout the class. I would advise however if you are not familiar with barre to tell your instructor and ask that they explain some of the basic movements (such as the 'tuck,' which you will do ~100 times per class). I'm pretty sure the instructors assume that everyone has a basic understanding of barre principles, which some people might not. And the only other negative in terms of the instruction, this class does not offer as much cool down stretching as other barre studios in the city. So, make sure you go home and stretch it out after! It's a great location, just a few minutes away from the Coolidge Corner T stop. And the workout is even better, you probably won't be able to walk if it's your first time, but that's a good thing. ;) read more

Pure Barre - Barre Classes Near Me - Brookline, Massachusetts

I would say that I'm a fan in general of this place and most of the teachers, but I have had a few bad experiences in Erin's classes. When doing pretzel, she mentioned more than once that it targets "the muffin top," and then said, "Can't have that!" She also made the comment, "the higher the heels, the thinner the thighs." Not everybody goes to pure barre to be skinny. Also, people are at different fitness levels. So saying that you "can't have that" when people in the class do, in fact, "have that" is offensive. Her comments are more suited to a pro-anorexia website than they are to an exercise class that theoretically should be beneficial to the mind and the body. Other than her classes, I thoroughly enjoyed the pure barre experience and the other teachers' focus on growing stronger and doing something good for yourself by coming to class. You can't be doing something good for yourself and beating yourself up about your body at the same time. read more

I started taking Pure Barre classes after about a year of inactivity. I'm glad no one accurately communicated to me how hard it is because I never would have started. It is very very difficult, especially for someone who is not used to working out and who is at least 20 years older than PB's average client. HOWEVER, I am cheap, and I already purchased the month of unlimited classes for new customers, so I committed to going at least three times a week for the month. At the end of that period, if I wasn't in full traction at Mass General, I would consider the experiment a success. I'm happy to say that I am halfway through that first month, and I can already feel measurable improvement in my strength and stamina. I have injured myself a few times, but not badly. I have been giving myself permission to not always push past the pain because sometimes the pain is telling you, "Cut it out, you idiot. You're not 23!" This class is a great, full body workout, but I would strongly recommend pairing Pure Barre with a gentle yoga class because in my opinion, they do not devote enough time to stretching. Other than that, I'm thrilled that I have finally found an exercise routine that I do not loathe. I hope to see you there! read more

I tried out my first barre class sometime last year. I thought it was interesting, but not enough to keep my attention. I was confused with some of the movements and had no idea what "tuck" was even supposed to mean. However, I have several friends that swear by PB. When I saw that this Brookline location was opening and running a special I figured I would give it another shot. Well...I AM IN LOVE! The space: -Clean, clean, clean! -Accessible location in Coolidge Corner -Slightly small area to put your stuff that can get a bit crowded when one class is leaving and another is coming The instructors: -All of the training is pretty uniform. Definitely give each instructor a try because a few (Erin W, Katelyn and Nicole G. specifically) that will give great feedback and descriptions on what each movement should be doing. I prefer a little bit more chatty talking (corrections, where you should be feeling the burn, etc) during the class on what I should be feeling work so I look for instructors who do that a bit more. -Friendly! They really try to remember everyone's name and seem open to questions both before and after class. The class: -There is no jumping around or sweating buckets here. BUT YOU WILL WORK. Those little tiny muscles in your "seat" will be yelling at you after the class is done. Everything done here is small movements that really make your muscles burn. Embrace the shake is something you commonly here. (Note: I wear a HRM and I burn around 300-400 calories!) -A few of the moves can be a bit confusing. My recommendation is to come a few times and then look for a "Breaking Down the Barre" workshop. All of the instructors are willing to answer questions after class too. Tip: -Follow them on social media. They post deals, news, etc. -New clients get 4-weeks for $100. If you have been to another PB studio, you are still considered a new client here! -Don't be intimidated. Everyone has to start at the beginning at some point. -Socks are required, but I don't use their sticky socks. For some reason they always come off my feet. I just wear my regular socks and they work just fine. I'm obsessed with Pure Barre and it has become a great addition to my workout routine! I can both see and feel the effects of the workouts in just a matter of a few weeks. read more

Right after my new client special ($100 for 30 days) expired, I bought 40 classes. I absolutely love coming to pure barre (and will continue 2x a week or so) - I have really seen an improvement in my body even in just 20-30 classes! The workout is fun and challenging, and can be adapted for any fitness level. The studio itself is gorgeous and all the teachers are good. They are not really able to add their own personality to the class, as the script is pretty standard. I could see how this could bother some people, but in my opinion, it just makes it so that it does not really matter what instructor you get (and some are slightly better than others and offer more adjustments, Amy is my favorite). The instructors make the effort to get to know people, and they are always willing to chat and answer questions before/after class. The best part about the studio is that it's convenience makes it really easy for me to keep coming. It's easy to park and there are classes literally every hour on weekday evenings. It's easy to sign up online, and the 3 hour cancelation policy seems very reasonable. Yes, it is expensive but in my opinion the price matches what you get. Despite the fact that this studio is amazing, I have a few suggestions: 1. They need a water bubbler. For $20+ a class, I feel like it's a little silly that I have to fill my water in the bathroom sink. 2. The weights and equipment should be in the back of the studio, at the opposite side of the entrance. The space in between classes is really chaotic and this would be an easy way to prevent that. Pro Tip: The first class is absolutely overwhelming! If you're new to purebarre, try at least 5 classes before deciding if it's really for you. It definitely takes a few times to get the technique ("tuck") down. read more

I LOVE Pure Barre, it's such a great workout and it is so much harder than you would think--but yields amazing results if you stick with it--don't give up! The first time I went I felt a bit overwhelmed because I am in pretty good shape but still found this class to be very difficult--but actually, it's supposed to be. I've been going to this Pure Barre studio for over a year now and I have to say I love the instructors, they are so amazing, and the workouts continue to challenge my limits. I've become more flexible and stronger, thanks to the amazing instructors at PBBrook! They help me with my form and are very enthusiastic and friendly. I highly recommend this Pure Barre studio! read more

I've been going to pure barre with friends for a couple of years now. It's the go-to boutique fitness studio for a gal pal date. I may even dare to say it's the Starbucks of Barre. I usually frequent the Brookline location because it is the closest to me - I live in Allston/Brookline. The studio space itself is really big - and I've never been to a class that wasn't full. This location caters to (mostly) women of all ages so every class is full. If you don't come early, you don't get a prime location & with all these ladies there is a lot of space saving so make sure to come early! The instructors are always really helpful (I'm terrible at barre). Sometimes this can be intimidating with so many usuals in the class. Though used many times a day, the equipment is always in good working condition - which i think speaks a lot to its quality. The shoe/belonging space (as with many Boston studios) is limited- so again- come early. Because it is so popular, Pure Barre really caters to all skill types. I never feel ignored when I don't understand a move. read more

Pure Barre is the best workout! It is a workout where I have found a community and I love it. The instructors are inspiring and although the structure of the class is the same each time the workout is challenging and I can never take it easy. I take classes 4-5 times a week and I have seen my body change in really great ways and it has also helped me approach my running and other workouts from a better place. For me the price of monthly classes works and they have an autopay feature. Try it out with their new client special and I believe you'll be hooked! read more

Just did my first barre class and I loved/hated it! I am a female meathead I'll admit it. I like weights and running for my exercise but decided to give this a try after hearing my friend talk about it. My core is my weak area so I figured this would be good for that. Well I currently am having trouble moving so I guess the moves worked lol. The studio is small but very clean and organized. My instructor was great and played really good music during class. Both her and the other girl in the front were very nice and friendly when I came in. As others have said make sure you bring socks with you as you need them for the class. Definitely taking advantage of the $100 unlimited deal for new members. read more

This place first caught my eye with all their super cute retail gear!! Don't forget to bring socks! $10 a pair if you don't. Same goes for water! They don't have a water fountain but they do sell refrigerated bottled water. I've been here three times and Amelia is definitely my favorite!!! She's super intense, upbeat, friendly, and loves to kick butt. I was surprised by how attentive she was with recognizing our names and correcting each individual's form. Amy is also a great instructor! She's super smiley and I loved taking her class and being greeted by her at the front desk. The other instructor I had was Katelyn. I found her class to be the least challenging of the three but hey! Different strokes for different folks. They're running a $100/month unlimited promotion and also a $30 deal for couples who go in early May. I find the latter to be a pretty interesting approach to marketing for men haha. read more

I love trying out new fitness classes and have heard great things about the pure barre craze. I have never taken a barre class in my life and was unsure of what to expect. Initially I bought a single class ($23) and then purchased half of the new client special (normally $100 unlimited for your first month, but I had a conflict with this and they were very accommodating and allowed me to purchase 2wks unlimited). This is definitely not a cheap hobby, but the facilities are nice and I'm a believer that these classes work. Overall I did 5 classes. At first, I was so lost trying to follow everyone and figure out how to get with the lingo (tuck, bend and stretch, what?!). I consider myself to be in decent shape and was definitely feeling challenged and worked. I love that the classes are low intensity, but you really feel the burn. It's a full body workout with a lot of pulsing and small movements to fatigue your muscles and promote muscle endurance. By my last class, I noticed the instructors weren't coming around to correct my form as much and I felt stronger- especially in my core. I found the instructors to be very helpful, the studio is clean (could use more storage space and benches though), and it's in a good location. Lauren (one of the co-owners) and Elise were my favorite instructors and I definitely recommend taking one of their classes! read more

I've been going here for about a year now. The new member special got me hooked. It's a fun but GOOD workout. They have a couple different classes so you don't feel like it gets too repetitive. The instructors are awesome and the entire staff is welcoming and personable. Highly recommend if you prefer group exercise classes! read more

I like pure barre. This studio is nice, clean, and well run. It gets crowded before and after classes because its a small space. The only reason I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is because of the price. It's expensive compared to other fitness classes (except maybe crossfit). I did the $100 new member 1 month unlimited special, which was a good deal. The classes are 1 hr long and are offered at convenient times. The 6:40 pm class fills up and I would recommend making a reservation on line. There isn't a cancellation fee if you forget to go or if you cancel late. (Edit - There is a cancellation fee now.) The workout is very similar from class to class. I liked all of the instructors but my favorite is Amy B.. She really pushes you and gives great ques and adjustments. My general opinion on the Pure Barre work out is that it works. I felt stronger and more confident after 3 classes and started noticing physical results after about 10. I'm proud that I can do real push ups and hold a 90 second plank. read more

The studio is very clean from the bathroom to the equipment. The employees are very friendly and professional. My first class was free and now I'm hooked. This studio is judgement-free and I would highly recommend it to friends and family. read more

I took a class here through ClassPass which was fine. But six months later, I'm constantly getting harassed over email and phone about unpaid membership dues. I have called the branch to set it straight, and yet nothing has changed. Protect your info, don't come here. read more

Bummed! I tried out a couple months at this PB location, and the teachers and people are really nice there. I recently took a break because my hip started to bother me. Last week my bank account showed a charge of $199, which I was confused about because I was unaware I signed up for an auto renewal package. I emailed the Brookline studio, and when I didn't receive a response, I called. They told me that there was no way to receive a refund even though I haven't gone to any classes to warrant keeping the $199. I emailed corporate to see what I can do about this, but I'm confused how there's absolutely no way your system can process a refund for an automatic renewal. read more

Love love love! I'm hooked. The instructors are great especially Amy H, Rachael and Kat. They are very patient and helpful. Only downside is that the lobby can get very congested when classes are ending glasses are beginning; small area to put your personal belongings. Carpet definitely needs to be replaced! read more

This is truly one of my two favorite exercise! ( the other is heated flow yoga). The studio is modern, clean and really comfortable. The instructors are very professional and tentative - they would come to to correct your posters. Most importantly, the exercises take effect quickly!!! Cannot love it more read more

So nice when I called as a newbie. They let me pay after class so I could decide to pay per class or get a class pack. Just finished my first class and I loved it! read more

What a great place! I only took my first class this morning and can already feel it. I was a little nervous in the beginning but once I walked in, I was greeted by such a nice girl, who showed me the studio and got me acclimated. My instructor was Nicole and she was energetic and very helpful. I got to talk to her for a few minutes after class about some of the exercises, which was really helpful. They have a great deal going on right now where you pay $100 for a month of unlimited classes, which I signed up for as I left. The place is clean, the music is great, and the staff is so friendly. I left feeling excited and motivated for my next class. If you are a first timer, call to let them know and they will let you try the class out before you commit to anything or have to pay online. read more

I could never even get a call or email back from Rachel in regard to my inquiry. That's no way to run a business!

Amazing class today. Lots of challenging poses. The studio is fantastic, the teachers are great, hands on and helping out with pose corrections to get the most out of class. Love the late evening classes, Bc those are the ones I can usually make with my crazy work schedule. Love PB Brookline!! read more

This place and the people here basically changed my life. I was always intimidated by group workout classes, especially those known for being as challenging as Pure Barre. However, that all changed when I started coming here and experienced classes that were taught by friendly, supportive teachers who want to help you achieve your own personal best. The consistent structure of the classes makes them easy to follow, but daily variations keep them from ever feeling monotonous. Since I started coming here a year and a half ago I have become stronger physically as well as mentally and every time I walk in the door it's like entering the house of a friend (who will kick my butt and make me feel sore the next day)! I love Pure Barre Brookline! read more

I love it here! The teachers are so nice and the classes are amazing! You leave here definitely feeling the burn but it is fabulous! Wouldnt want to go anywhere else! Peice of advice: sign up for classes well in advance because there is always a wait list for early morning and the last two evening classes!! read more

Just started taking classes here and I love it already. The front desk staff are very welcoming and friendly and the instructors push you during the class, but make it point to also offer encouragement. Classes start and end on time and are easy to book via the app. If you miss a class that you signed up for and want to book another class that same day, you have to call them to unlock your account. I see this as a fair incentive to get you to attend the classes you register for. You need to have these special socks for class that they sell there ($12 I think), you can find these elsewhere much cheaper! read more

Pure Barre Brookline, is cute, clean and and easy to park near. The classes are intense and challenging, even for those that are in moderately good shape. Sticking with it seems to deliver amazing results. Way more appealing than slogging away on the treadmill! The price is the only part that is a drag, it would be nice if it was a little less expensive. That being said, I go every morning to get my money's worth ; ) read more

I really enjoyed my new client month at Pure Barre, and I'm sad that I won't be able to continue because it won't fit into my budget to pay the normal rate long term - not because of anything wrong with the studio. If you can afford it, I totally recommend it. Everyone is really friendly and non-judgmental, there is no sales pressure or trying to scam you like other fitness studios, and the workouts are always totally focused and productive. My favorite instructors were Julia, Amy (especially for platform), Jamie, Amelia... I feel like I'm just listing everyone. They are all strict (in a good way) and attentive to your posture, and there is good attention paid to make sure you don't injure yourself. On the off days I recommend a good stretch or foam roll at home on your own to supplement the workouts - your muscles will get extremely tight and sore especially starting out. The front room gets crowded during class transitions, but it's really not that bad. If I can get a raise or a second job, I'll be back for sure. read more

Pure barre is a fantastic workout that actually makes you like working out again! The instructors and staff are so friendly. Great experience! read more

The girls are really friendly and help you out with the excercises. You feel like coming back every time!

I want to start be saying that I used to think Pure Barre was a little cult-ish...My roommate joined another studio and became obsessed! She talked about it non-stop and went to classes almost every day! She finally dragged me to a class and I was hooked IMMEDIATELY! I knew that Pure Barre would produce results judging from the fact that I could barely walk for days after my first class! Pure Barre Brookline is hands down the best work out experience I've ever had. As someone who used to practice yoga but continued to injure myself, I have really enjoyed Pure Barre. Alignment and cues are just as important as they are in yoga classes, but the movements are small and focused so I feel safe and know I won't injure any joints again. While classes follow the same basic routine (warm up, arms, thighs, seat, abs), there's always a different combination of exercises so you'll never get bored in class. Pure Barre's main philosophy is to really work specific muscle groups to exhaustion (you WILL shake!) and then stretch out the warm muscles to elongate them. I've been going for almost a year and while the classes never get easier, I absolutely feel stronger. The instructors are amazing! They learn your name right away so you feel part of the community immediately. I'd recommend taking a first class with Amy or Abigail. They both cue well but slow enough that you'll be able to ease into the routine and learn the moves. Jamie and Angela are my faves! Their classes are intense (in a good way!) and Jamie loves loud music so as a beginner it could be heard to hear her prompts. I also take classes regularly with Katrina and Lindsay, but have taken classes with each instructor and love them all! I cannot recommend PBBrook enough!! I've now become one of those devoted clients who might talk about Pure Barre a little too much;) Try it out and I guarantee you'll be hooked! read more

I really love going to pure barre whenever I visit my sister in Brookline. If you ask any instructor about a posture you can't quite get, they are so precise and good about making sure you understand it and get the most out of the workout!! read more

Super friendly staff, especially Amelia! She introduced herself to me, corrected my posture throughout the class and asked for my feedback when class was done. On the class itself, it was super challenging but not unbearable and I didn't feel intimidated even though most people were doing a better job than me :) Thanks Amelia for a great workout and flawless user experience (I am a marketing professional so take these things super seriously) read more

Terrible and humiliating experience here. I used a groupon to buy a pack of five classes because I can't afford the regular price. I show up to class and enter in the studio. No one has told me I have to wear socks. The instructor is in the room with me for at least five minutes before class starts yet waits until after the warm up is over to come over to me and tell me I need socks and that I have to leave the classroom and go get a pair. I didn't bring any so I go to the front desk, who tells me I need to buy a pair in order to go back into the class. I can barely afford this class as is, and now that I've been able to pay for it I have to pay even more for an overpriced pair of socks just to be able to re enter the studio? I've already paid and signed up for this class. I didn't bring my wallet with me. I had to leave the studio. This was a humiliating experience and it pains me that I woke up early to rush to this studio and paid for a pack of classes only to be treated like a fool. I've been to btone where they require socks and they have socks they lend students who don't know about the rule. But at least be upfront about it so I don't waste my money and then not even be able to take the class I paid for. Really disappointing. read more

I was super nervous to take my first class, but heard awesome things about Pure Barre so I sucked it up and paid the $25. I loved the energy, facilitation, and poses right away, but I really struggled (I had never taken a barre class before) and had to leave half way through from feeling nauseous! However, I came back after signing up for the $99/month (which was reduced to only $74 because I had already paid $25 for the first class) and LOVED the next class I took! The instructor was so nice and helpful, and even though I was the most inexperienced person in the class, I was able to make my workout work and it was super enjoyable. Definitely eat before hand and stay hydrated. read more

Tried my first barre class yesterday (Sunday 4:15 with Nick) and I really enjoyed the class! Nick was super friendly/helpful/detail oriented instructor and made this newbie feel welcome. I'm a fairly active person but have been seeking some variety in my workouts. Pure Barre definitely was a great idea and I'm quite sore today! I will probably sign up for the 6-week pass and integrate it into my weekly workout schedule. read more

Pure Barre is great! I've been going to the Brookline studio for two years and can easily say this workout has kept me engaged and seeing results throughout my experience. The instructors are friendly, approachable, and motivating. The class is consistently challenging and helps you keep in touch with your body and the muscles you're working. If you're looking to build strength and get toned, this is a great option! Give it a try - you won't be disappointed! read more
