Tried the mat and chair class at Boston Body Pilates for the first time with a friend, and we had such a positive experience! Our instructor, Julien, was fantastic -- super welcoming, patient, and helpful throughout the whole class. She made it easy to follow along, even as first-timers, and her guidance really helped us feel comfortable and confident. The space was clean and calming, and the vibe of the class was just the right mix of challenging and supportive. I'm definitely planning to come back and would highly recommend it to anyone curious about trying Pilates! 10/10 would recommend!! read more

I've been taking classes at Boston Body Pilates in the Waterfront for about six weeks now, and my experience has been overwhelmingly positive--especially thanks to Valencia, one of their instructors. She's a Black woman, and having that representation in a Pilates space genuinely matters to me. Starting where I started and seeing how far I've already come with her support has meant a lot. She remembers my name, makes me feel included rather than out of place, and gives hands-on guidance that actually helps me understand and correct my technique. It's the kind of attention that makes you want to keep showing up. From my very first day, I've also felt welcomed by Courtney, who greeted me when I walked in, and by Mallory, who's been responsive and kind over email. There's a sense of attentiveness throughout the studio that I really appreciate--especially with all the current conversations happening around inclusivity in Pilates spaces. Now, for the real talk: Communication They do say on their website that email is the best way to reach them, and they mean it. Calling is... hit or miss. I've called before and gotten no answer, and I've talked to other people who've had the same experience. So if you're looking for a quick phone response, good luck--you're better off emailing. Schedule & Space They offer classes seven days a week, with options in the morning, afternoon, and evening, which makes it easy to fit into any schedule. I'm also looking forward to exploring more of the studio, because they have different rooms with different machines and setups. Parking It's the Northend--so yes, parking is rough. You're likely paying $28+ unless you luck out with street parking. Keep that in mind when planning your trip. Location They're a bit tucked away. If you're taking a Lyft or driving, note that you can't just pull up right in front. They're located on the other side of Joe's (the restaurant). Once you figure it out, it's easy, but the first time can feel like a scavenger hunt. Other Note From time to time there's a dog in the studio, but I've never had it roaming around during class. Just something to know if you're allergic or prefer pet-free spaces. Overall, I've felt supported, included, and challenged in all the right ways. If you're considering trying Pilates--especially if you value representation, community, and instructors who actually pay attention--Boston Body Pilates Waterfront is worth checking out. read more

Boston Body Pilates is a beautiful studio. The studio has great equipment . The owner is very nice.

i really enjoyed the class i booked through class pass! it was a small group, 4 of us! the instructor made sure to learn all of our names and ask for injuries. she taught and instructed us in a way that was easy to understand and easy to keep up with. she didn't rush us, she guided us really well! highly recommend! read more

I checked out Boston Body Pilates through classpass and had my first class with Rachel who is a sweety! She's funky and very informative. I did experience a foot cramp- as I'm prone to these, so us doing all these foot/leg exercises is good for me! I'm glad that there's a variety of skill level in the same room as me; nothing too crazy as I'm not the most flexible!!! Went back for a second class with a different instructor but she was also good. The women at the check in desk was very nice too. There's 2 bathrooms, cubbies and hooks to hang your stuff. If you are early you can hang out in the little lobby area which is actually very comfortable with a ton of magazines. I was able to fill up my water bottle here and everyone in the class was just very nice and it's not just females! read more

It's amazing how attached you can become to a place, to people, to a practice, in 4 month's time... I returned to Boston Body Pilates Newbury Street after 5 years away following college graduation. I moved back to Boston this past summer and remembered how much I loved BBP back in college. Of course a bit has changed, with new instructors and actually a new location too; but what made BBP the best back then still holds true today. I was an unlimited everything (reformer, mat and barre) member this Jan through April. I took 4-6 classes per week, mostly reformer. BBP instructors are talented, creative, passionate and unique! You get from BBP what you'd expect from a boutique studio, and then some. It's just not the same as a large, franchised business. I can honestly say that every penny spent was worth it, 100%. The skill of the instructors, small class sizes and individualized attention were most important to me. I don't think this studio knows how much it means to me and what it did for me during my time there. I was not in a good place going into this new year. I was so unhappy at work that it was affecting my health. I was also unhappy with my body and my general well-being. I was sore, tight, crooked, weak, etc. I looked forward to my pilates classes every single day, so much so that I cried with frustration when I got stuck at work and couldn't make it there in time for class. Every time I walked in the door it was an escape, a therapy session, if you will. And of course, I am so much stronger now than I was only four months ago. I'm in a much better physical state. Pilates has helped lengthen me, strengthen me and even me out. I feel great and am so much happier. I owe these ladies a lot. And then of course there is Olivia. I cannot imagine ever finding a Pilates instructor I love more, which breaks my heart. Olivia is fantastic. She is funny, smart, and ALWAYS incorporates new series and movements into every class. And, you cannot get anything past this girl, hah! She will be right there to correct you or modify you, even in the group classes. She does this better than anyone, the individualized attention thing. If you take your pilates training seriously, she most definitely will be there to support you every step of the way. I miss her dearly. I had to leave BBP because I started a new job that's just too far away. Not a day goes by without me thinking about it, though. That's why I logged in to write this review at 11 pm. :) Newbury Street's BBP was my happy place. I guess the grass is always greener! Lauren read more

5 stars for almost everything, except the pricing is a bit crazy here. $50 for a drop in reformer. There's almost always discounts though, so I guess that's how thy get you back to standard competitive pricing. I bought a 5 class on Black Friday for $75. They take 2 classes for reformer. One class for standard mat classes. The classes felt great. Try get full about 1-2 days in advance but I always plan early. Loved Danaes class. Felt like a workout and good stretch with good critique. Will be back! A must for staying downtown. Front desk staff was so amazing and helpful. read more

This used to be an excellent studio but since moving to its newer tiny location there is a constant churn of instructors. You don't know if the person it says is teaching your class actually will be so it's hard to work with an instructor you prefer. Some people teaching now are barely qualified so the range of instructors has declined in the last couple years. Also it is very hard to get into most classes unless you plan a month out. I'm sadly going to look for a new place for Pilates now . read more

Just had my first barre class here via ClassPass and I am IN LOVE!! So nice to finally have a real barre class in Boston. I can't wait to go back!!! read more

I was visiting Boston and decided to take a barre class with Katie. She was very attentive to my form and gave a really good core workout on the bar. I especially loved the mat exercises at the end with the soft ball. She told me later that she did those just for me as I have some issues with my lower back. Thanks again Katie!! PS Loved her music playlist too! read more

Boston Body Pilates - I purchased this nice thin long sleeve that says "Boston Body" and some great no-slip socks that say "peaceful " . - Barre Classes Near Me - Boston, Massachusetts

The West Newton studio has changed teachers and schedule - many of the teachers now are disconnected and lack experience and enthusiasm; don't offer client help or hands on adjustments (one teacher in particular sits in the corner looking at the ground the whole time). (Some teachers, like Mary, are incredible- but only teach one class a week). The studio has become increasingly disappointing and wouldn't allow for me to cancel my membership without charging a steep one month fee. After this month I will not be returning to this studio and hope to follow the great teachers who've left the studio to their new places of exercise. read more

On a recommendation from a friend, I recently took a trip to Boston Body Pilates in the Back Bay. While I typically exercise by freelifting, bicycling, or running, I heard that this is a really good way to exercise other muscle groups so I wanted to give it a shot. I was skeptical about Pilates at first since I'm a guy and thought it was 'girly' but Jess really made my roommate and I struggle with her routine. First of all, my roommate and I enjoyed the location of the studio since it was just a quick walk from the Arlington T stop on Newbury Street. The studio layout was really open and modern and all of the equipment appeared to be state of the art. The girls at the counter assured us that we would be fine in the workout (we were terrified) and introduced us to the instructor Jess. Jess was great and gave my roommate and I tips throughout the Barre class leaving us with a feeling that we were really welcome there. As I mentioned, the workout was extremely challenging compared to the intensity I get in my other workouts. The cool thing about the studio was that they had a few different class options (Barre, Mat, Sculpt, etc.) so I could try a few and not get bored. I definitely plan on returning to Boston Body to check out the rest of their class options and would recommend you do the same! read more

Update: I have completed two classes so far and am shocked that teachers don't show you how to do something or correct you. Reformer class was ok, barre class was horrible. Everything feels rushed and on the clock. Instructors are not friendly either. I attended a Pilates class today. I have been doing yoga for over 10 years and also have gone through the beginner Pilates training. Overall I was pleased with the experience. I have over 20 years of professional athletic training so am picky when it comes to studio, this one was not bad at all. However, I am not sure if I would go back. Pros: 1. Nice and clean studio 2. Friendly staff 3. Good reservation system 4. Great location Cons: 1. Class felt rushed 2. Beginner students were not doing things correctly but instructor won't stop to adjust (was rushing through) 3. No warm up or wrap up - muscles need if especially in the winter read more

I really like this studio. I moved from California about a year and a half ago and Pilates was always a big part of my life. It took me a while to get back in the rhythm after moving to New England, but thanks to Boston Body I'm getting there! The instructors know their stuff, and are also just super nice. The studio is comfortable - open, bright, with a good energy. The classes are just the right size (fairly small which I like). You can tell everyone there (students and instructors) enjoy being there. I've also noticed that I'm (slowly but surely) starting to get my Pilates body back so I'm grateful for that and looking forward to keeping Pilates as an active part of my life! read more

This review is for Boston Body Zayna Gold's two dvd workouts. I bought the two dvds on a Gilt City promo a few months ago. I am always on the lookout to add variety to my fitness regimen. The first time I did each dvd I felt death. Used to pilates, running and yoga this was working muscles I did not know existed. Fast forward two months later, of which I did one of the dvds at least once a week, and my body has changed so much!! My 30 yr old butt is perkier than it has been in a decade, my c-zone, as Zayna calls it, has siginificantly decreased and well I just love the added definition my abs have. If you cannot afford the pricey barre classes around the city definitely give both dvds a try!! (If you just get one I would go with the express one as it is prop free). One day I hope to be able to do a studio class but for now I am happy getting a bit of Boston Body at home! read more

I have attended about 5 classes at this studio through my class pass membership. The first class I went to was a Pilates mat class. It was my first Pilates class not on a machine and I guess it wasn't what I was expecting. This class isn't a workout it's more of a stretching/yoga feel. I brought my mom who was in town visiting, and halfway through the class she had to put her sweatshirt on she was so cold! I mean I know it's not a cardio class, but you should at least be warm, especially when stretching. One of the worst parts of this studio is the instructors. I have only taken classes from Katie Lovell and Lindsay Bottari. I actually enjoyed Katie's class until she snapped at me for explaining the move to my friend who was struggling. She didn't understand the movement, and Katie wasn't adjusting anyone's form so I attempted to help her and was met with a snappy comment. It wouldn't have been an issue if I hadn't heard her gossiping to another instructor at the front desk about how "rude" my friend and I were during class! First of all, we're all adults here and if you have a problem with me, just approach me and we can work towards a resolution. I found her response so childish and immature, not to mention unprofessional. For other class-goers I hope this was a one-time occurrence. When I attended Lindsay's class, she was also friendly at the beginning. Throughout he class though, she kept speeding up her counting so we would move through each exercise faster. It felt so rushed, and ten minutes until the class was scheduled to be over she released us from the class! If I didn't reserve through class pass, I would have demanded my money back. If I am paying for a 45 min sessions, I don't want to be released at 35! She seemed so bored and eager for the class to end. Honestly, the only reason I would go back is during my end of the monthly-membership of class pass when I have used up all of my available classes at the studios I love. It's such a shame because this is a great location and has such potential. I have not been able to try their reformer classes, because they are not available on class pass, but I've heard more positive feedback. read more

Took the Pilates mat remix class with Jess on Wednesday night and it was amazing! Via class pass I have been to most of the studios in Boston and actually took another class here that I didn't like and avoided the studio for a few months . However this class with Jess was amazing! 50 minutes went by so quickly but I was sweating at the end and knew I was going to be sore the next day. She is extremely helpful and attentive and made the class fun- at one point we were going from standing jump to a pike on our back and I couldnt stop laughing - however it was a serious work out! Jess made sure to come over to me at the end of class and check in! I already signed up for next week and can't wait! read more

I have been taking 4-6 classes a week (2 per day that I go) for a month and I have lost 7lbs! The only other exercise I've done is some walking on the weekends. All of the instructors and staff are very nice and helpful. My favorite class is Barre with Zayna, but I also like the equipment classes and mat sculpt. You can book online and can use the Mind Body Connect app to view and book classes too. The studio is very beautiful also! read more

I did my first barre class at this studio yesterday with Katie through ClassPass. A coworker of mine would rave about barre and I wanted to try it out and this was the only studio that could cater to the day, time, and location I wanted. Since I'm a new member of ClassPass, I really do not have many expectations going in as I'm a gym member of planet fitness (enough said). When I first came to the studio, I did notice how small it was. You place your shoes along the wall wherever you can find space, and hang up your coat wherever you can find a place on a hook, even if it means hanging it up on another person's coat. So that was my only con. The class itself was great. I came in with the idea that barre was not going to be challenging, but boy was I wrong. It's not an intense cardio class, but it really works and tones your body through different movements on the barre and on the floor using your own weight, a ball, and some light weights. Katie was a great instructor, even taking some time to help me correct my form. I understand now the craze for barre and will definitely take more barre classes at this studio! read more

I really enjoy BBP on Newbury Street. The instructors tend to mix up their class format which keeps me challenged and interested during the entire class. I have had to reach out to the owner and manager a few times and they have been very kind and quick to answer my questions. I am very impressed with their customer service. I recommend trying each of the instructors because all of them are great in their own ways, I learn something new in almost every class I attend! read more

As a former competitive Athlete, and Professional Figure Skater, I am accustomed to top notch trainers, and the best in physical fitness. After trying many different studios, in and around the Boston area, Boston Body Pilates is a stand out. My preference in Pilates reformer classes is met with a variety of instructors, and many different choices for areas of concentrations and levels of difficulty. I like that no 2 teachers or routines are the same, and it keeps the training engaging, challenging and fresh. Conveniently located in the heart of Back Bay, this studio offers private instruction, mat classes, and just about anything you want to help you tone, elongate, strengthen & stretch. Check them out! read more

The new studio on Newbury is awesome and spacious. The Barre class I took had awesome music and the instructor was fun and had terrific energy. The class was extremely challenging and I definitely felt it the next day! They have a wide variety of classes and class times so I will definitely be going to check them out again! read more

THE BEST! I have tried many different types of fitness programs, trying to get myself to stick to a routine. Boston Body Pilates keeps me coming back for sure. Instead of dreading my workout, I am always so excited for my next class! The studio is clean and gorgeous, and the staff is warm and welcoming. The instructors are great at making beginners feel included in class, and they are so positive and motivating. I saw major results (both mind and body!) after a month or two of barre classes. For equipment classes, I recommend Jessica R. She is extremely knowledgeable and fun to work out with!! Can't say enough good things about this place :) read more

Boston Body is the best workout studio I've found since moving to Boston almost a year ago. It's not only a gorgeous studio, but also in a gorgeous location. I've been taking Barre classes with Danae for a couple of weeks now and I couldn't be happier. She is a fantastic instructor and the class is exactly what I need to shake up my typical gym routine. The instructors are motivating but pay attention to individual needs (such as my hurt knee) and the classes fly by! read more

Quick update just to say that reformer classes ARE available now on CP! I've taken the Pilates Equipment-Reformer 101 with Arnold several times and it's wonderful - a great class to take on your rest day/if you want to do something not so intense. And Arnold is a hoot! So it makes it extra fun. That's all. Everything else from my previous review stands true almost a year later. read more

The studio started a new class which was different than others. In the class we learn a dance. It is broken down by component and you definitely get a cardio workout. Everyone in the class are at different levels but everyone has a blast ! I have taken two of these classes and will take them as long as offered. Thanks Gabi for trying something new ! read more

I have only taken barre class with Katie at this studio, but I love it. As a beginner, I have taken many barre classes all over Boston but Katie's class made me feel the most comfortable. I suffer from pain in my neck and wrist and she always helps with modifications. She also recognizes the different levels that class participants are at and will often ask if we have any requests. The studio also has great customer service and is very welcoming. read more

I attended Zayna Gold's barre class last night (Wed 5.30pm). And to update after my first review, I loved Zayna's class - 5stars! It was tough in a different way to Kat's class. Lots of similar techniques, but personalized to each teacher. Zayna is very knowledgeable about the human anatomy. For many of the exercises she'd explain what it's working, where we should be feeling it and cueing us on proper form. She stressed a lot on having good form which I think is super important for maximizing the efficiency of the workout and hitting the right muscle, and not injuring yourself. We started with dynamic stretching, then moved to the barre to hit the glutes/thighs in various isometric holds with pulses. Then we moved to the floor to do some arms and leg work, then mats for abs. It was tough, there were lots of sections with burn. If I had to compare this studio to Pure Barre, I would say the instruction is more personalized, the vibe is less superficial and way more about doing what's right for your body (Pilates philosophy). In terms of the actual workout, it's very similar to PB (both are derived from the Lotte Berk method) but with less burn, but still a good workout. I really appreciated Zayna meeting each new person and chatting with them before the class to find out more about their barre experiences, any injuries etc. It was a real chat where she was clearly interested in you and your goals, history, preferred interaction with the instructor etc. She also remembers regulars and their issues with particular exercises (eg feeling it in the wrong place), and she checks up on them to make sure they're working on or feeling the improvement. Very nice personal touch! read more

I like Boston body Pilates a lot. What I don't like is the teacher (Jill Rothenberg)who spends the entire class (50min) talking about her dog. For God's sake, we come here to exercise not to hear the stories of her personal life /dog's issues. Someone has to let her know this is not OK. Please refrain from talking about your life and let us enjoy our class. read more

I had (and am still having) a great experience at Boston Body Pilates! I planned to join for just a few months, to shape up for summer, but I am enjoying myself so much I think I will continue my membership. I had never done barre or pilates before, but the staff is very welcoming and are very helpful to beginners, even though there classes are for All Levels. The classes are lot of fun and the time flies by! I am not athletic but I actually look forward to going to class each day. Another upside is that the space does not feel like a gym at all! It is very clean, with sofas and wall art. The only downside is the price, but it is totally worth it for me to spend the extra money for a membership I actually use, as opposed to my BSC membership I wasn't using at all. I highly recommend it! read more

I've taken several Pilates classes and I haven't really loved them until I took Katie's class on Friday morning. She was upbeat and positive. I injured my back and she kept on checking in on me to make sure I wasn't in pain and I can could handle the movements. I'll definitely be back to Boston Body for her class! read more

I love the new Boston space at 14 Newbury! I was in Tuesday night for the first time since their move and I remembered why I love Boston Body so much. Highly Recommend! read more

The 12 hour notice for group classes is quite ridiculous. I have taken Barre classes all over Boston at many different locations and this is the only studio that has a lengthy amount of time for a cancellation notice. I can see 3-4 hours notice being reasonable, but how are you supposed to know if any emergency comes up or you are sick, half a day before the class? Seems to me they are trying to tack on as many fees possible! read more

Instructors are generally very good and the studio is convenient to those who live in Back Bay. However, there are a number of things needing improvement, mainly cleanliness-related: Despite multiple signs, people do not wear socks; the reformer floor usually has dust balls and the mirrors are finger-printed; matts aren't cleaned; on two occassions Iately I've seen dogs in the actual reformer studio; the sponges aren't sanitary (pass out paper towels or something to put over them). Also, the studio is closed for all major/minor holidays and classes are extremely limited on weekends. read more

Olivia is such an amazing instructor. She modifies every work out for anyone who is injured to make feel right at home. I have lost about 100 pounds but I still do not consider myself graceful, athletic or think I'm really capable of holding my own in classes but that's ok at BTone! I've been hooked since January and for the entire month of March I took two classes a day. Every instructor is different and my favorite is Kristen. I love her Tone classes and her Tone N Torch. All of the instructors are very nice and are always quick to offer modifications. Once I even looked like it was too easy and Kristen made it harder for me! Very thankful for that so I didn't feel I was wasting a workout. The mega-reformer is terrifying looking. I've used it countless times now and I still get nervous looking at it but it's basically impossible to fall off it or slip or whatever other insane thought I've had. And I'm clumsy so if anyone was going to fall, it would be me! It is MUCH more of a workout to go on their counts and go slow. By better I mean you shake and it's hard and you think you can't do it but once you do it's amazing! I love this studio so much. read more
