Now officially in the 250 club! I've been waiting for this day for a long time, especially because I lost one of my 100 club sock. PB was great to adapt to Covid, from reducing class size early on to quickly offering livestream classes. They initially offered livestream class through Facebook, and then set up its own website for recorded sessions. I've enjoyed the flexibility with livestream, especially I could take classes with instructors who I don't normally get a chance to! While I have been comfortable taking livestream sessions since Covid, it's only because I had plenty of in-studio experience, especially with modifications. I'd recommend anyone who is comfortable with going to studio take it in-person as opposed to virtual. The only thing is I wish the livestream is offered through Zoom. I talked to the instructors and inquired about Zoom as an option. However, because the class is so music driven, it's hard to get the correct microphone feedback over Zoom. The Boston studio is also located on the second floor of a building, slightly more tucked away than the Harvard Square location. It has two individual bathrooms and one changing room. Plenty of locker space and equipment for all. Before the pandemic, I've been here a bunch of times since you can take classes either at the harvard location or here. Now, you can take classes from any of the three locations: Brookline, Boston, or Harvard Square. Different instructors have different styles, and it will take you some time to find what's best for you. Angela is definitely popular here. I took two classes with Fiona, and loved her! I love Amanda, and am glad she is here temporarily for this summer! If you are brand new to barre, it will take you at least a week or so to fully adapt to its rhythms. The good news is they offer free Foundations class for new members, or you can always check out the intro class on YouTube to get a better idea on what to expect. The membership is not cheap, but comparable to other professionally owned gym or barre studios. They have membership sale from time to time (e.g., new membership for $99 for 3 months or 20% off of lifestyle membership), so definitely keep an eye on its marketing emails or social media and take advantage of that. I'd also recommend check with your work or insurance to see if you can get any partial reimbursement on fitness membership. Some other tips: 1. There is a 4-hour cancellation window, after that you will have to pay a late cancellation fee. If you are unsure of your schedule, you can always sign up at the last minute (if there is still room for the class). Also, be sure you are early or on time. Typically, you may be turned away if you are more than 5 - 7 minutes late for class, for safety reasons. 2. While some poses are hard, don't be afraid to modify them. Personally, I find myself better off without the weights for the weight section from time to time just to get the form right. Form over heavy lifting, as always. 3. Wear long pants! For top, I see a variety of sports bras or tank tops. While shorts are allowed, it is not recommended. Better with capri or 7/8 or full pants. Also, you can wear regular socks, but may find plank or other positions challenging. Most people have Pure Barre sticky socks (which I think is now $18 a pair). If you're willing to pay for a class or membership, it's always a good workout with a diversity of movements in one class to keep it interesting. Lovely studio space but my biggest gripe is that there is no water fountain so you have to buy water if you are really thirsty. Good camaraderie among the staff and students here but it can seem cliquey. Clientele here is on the younger side while the studio in Brookline for example, has a more diverse group. I've been here a few times without issue but recently came for a themed class, which started 30 min late due to the staff decorating the studio. That was a little irksome. Prime location! read more

I've recently become a Pure Barre fan - a friend told me about their 99$ intro month deal, and I happened to have a lighter month at work so I signed up. I generally enjoy exercising and have a basic running routine pretty set, so I like using fitness classes to challenge myself and really push myself to do new things. I'll admit that it took me several classes to really understand what all the steps mean and stuff, but I now enjoy going and feel like it's a great workout. All the instructors at Pure Barre are so helpful and I REALLY appreciate how much care they take during the classes to check everyone and make sure you're correctly aligned/positioned to be working the muscle groups they are focusing on. Because barre is such little movements, if you're off you can totally miss the benefit of the workout. The downside, of course, is that it is super expensive, and unfortunately I feel like it's just not sustainable for me in the long-term =( Side note - they don't have showers like several other fitness facilities do. You don't get as sweaty doing barre as a lot of other classes, but I typically would go back to my house and shower before going to work since I felt weird about not showering. read more

Don't join as a member! It's like the Hotel California - you can join anytime you like but you can never leave. They make it complicated to find out how to cancel, delaying the process so they can continue to collect monthly fees while you are seeking the secret, and once you have figured out the request must be made in writing, they then counter your email with another email asking if you are sure. Even once they finally accept you are leaving, they don't just charge you for their contract remaining 30 days but make you pay for an additional 30 days. Ie - you tell them on the 1st that you want to cancel your membership but you actually originally joined on the 27th - they then charge you another month's fee on the 27th because your notice to cancel did not come within 30 days of your monthly charge date - so you really ended up giving them 57 days notice. But my main complaint is the way they bury the reality of the cancelling process. Post how to end memberships on your website Barre. I completed the 30-days for $100 available for new members. Every 60-min class compromises of the same sequence, with stretching in between: - Leg lifts - Placing the ball between your legs and doing ab/leg sequences - 90-second plank - Plank twists / Side plank - Arm sequences with 2-4 lb weights - Thigh work against the barre - Seat (butt) work against the barre - Ab sequences against the wall - Ab work on the floor - Bridge tucks You will hear the instructors repeat the words "tuck, tuck, hold" "tuck, tuck, squeeze" and never want anyone to say it every again. Your legs will want to fall off and no longer be part of your body. The thigh work is meant to make your thighs shake, wiggle, and BURN. You will close your eyes to help you focus on the work out, but really you'll just be holding back tears from the pain. I felt like a baby fawn just learning how to walk holding some of these moves. However, this repetitive sequence is definitely effective. After a month, my thighs are stronger, my butt is tighter, and I am starting to see some definition in my arms (even though they are only 2-3 lb weights). My only gripe is that I wish there were some sort of variation with what the class targets. Although the specific thigh and seat work alternate with each class, they still target your thighs and butt. I would definitely appreciate a cardio-centered class, or more arm work compared to leg work. This way, choosing specific classes could be based on your preference of what you'd like to work on that day. read more

I've done pure barre at the Boston location on and off but recently made a committed "come-back" to pure barre after having my first baby and it's been such a great decision. I hope this review of my personal experience helps other moms & expecting moms determine if pure barre is a good option, I myself had no idea how much motherhood would change everything! I had initially invested in a peloton bike for convenience once the baby arrived, but I now find that nothing feels better than getting out of the house and making time for myself to go to a pure barre class. Everyone is different but cardio/ spin just doesn't feel great with weak muscle/ core strength. After a difficult pregnancy and delivery, the pure barre method has been very effective in building back my strength & confidence and the community & studio experience is very empowering. There are events focused on pregnancy and postpartum adjustments, and the workout method while vigorous is low impact with a lot of modifications available while you build back strength. The first 10 or so classes were very humbling, but after 40 classes my core strength is back full force. Pure barre has given me the momentum & stress relief I need to feel like my best self. If you're new to pure barre- just put your ego/perfectionism aside and go to 10 classes, do your best with the cues and form. It moves fast but no one is paying attention to you. Everyone is so friendly and welcoming. It's evident the owner cares and coaches her staff on creating/maintaining a top notch studio experience. Angela's classes are incredible- I'm still improving my form and she can somehow teach a full class and still adjust me at multiple points. I seriously feel like I have a personal trainer in her. Rachel's classes are incredible- her verbal cues are brilliant and I have a lot of "aha" moments when I take her classes. Pure Barre has recently introduced a new reform class, which is their own take on a pilates reformer class in using 2 different sets of tubes and sliders. It takes the classic form from the regular classes and adds in the endurance challenge from the empower classes. The 50-minute class is set up similarly to a classic class with a warm-up, arms & legs, core, seat, more core, and a cool-down. The warm-up starts you right off getting into a plank position, which was totally unexpected and gets your abs firing off to start class. There's one red tube around the barre and then two gray tubes attached to the bottom molding, which are used for similar exercises in a classic class, but with more movement using the sliders, usually on your feet. It's currently offered a few times throughout the week, a few in the morning and a couple in the afternoon. There are fewer people in the class (compared to a classic class) because of the set up of each station to allow people to freely move around with the sliders and not bump into anyone. There's been a fair amount of different instructors coming and going within the past year, but the majority of the current staff is friendly and provide a warm environment to be in. read more

Really enjoyed my first class on Sunday when I went for a friend's birthday. I felt welcome as soon as I checked in at the front desk. I had never done barre before and Channing was a wonderful instructor! I appreciated the fact that she was hands on without making me feel uncomfortable. Overall it was a wonderful workout that worked out every part of my body. At the end of the class I appreciated that they passed out wipes for everybody to clean off their equipment. *Tip- Bring no skid socks. Rachel, the studio manager, is super responsive over email and phone, and she's been so helpful with accommodating my changing membership needs as I've moved, worked through a few injuries, and just had some general life changes. Let me start off by saying that while I love working out, I despise cardio. I love weights, stretching, yoga and Pilates. Trying to find a work out that incorporates all of these with no hardcore cardio has been tough. I like spinning, but I only want to compete with myself. I'm not looking to be best in class, I'm looking to be better than I was yesterday. Enter pure barre in to my life. One of my sorority sisters/students bought the gilt deal, and fell in love with it. She had great results. I wanted those results. So a few months later, I bought the new student package. I started a few weeks ago. My initial reservations about barre classes (I'm not an ex dancer, I'm not 5'11" and 90 lbs, I'm not wearing lululemon, I sweat when I work out and it's not pretty) were put to rest with my first class. Fiona showed me around, Lauren (owner) taught my first class, and I just loved it. Lauren even checked in with me after class and asked how it was for me. Heck, she even answers the phone when I've called with questions. It might be a franchise, but she runs it like a very sweet, professional, friendly boutique. There are no airs. I've been going about three weeks now, and I can feel my body changing. Things are tighter and stronger, and I'm getting more flexible. Things to know: You need socks. Either buy their grippy ones or wear your own, but you can't take class barefoot. For those of us with foot phobias, this is a dream come true. No shorts. You need capris or pants. Fiona warned me not to take more than 2 lbs in weights for the arm portion at first. I'm glad I listened to her. I lift way more than that, but at the angles you're working, good luck suffering through that warm up with the 5's. Ill get there one day, but holy tricep work! Don't take a huge gym bag. There are lockers, but they are more like large cubbies, not gym lockers. Don't bring every personal possession you own to class. Listen to the instructors and ask questions. They will correct your form in class, but just ask if you're confused. They will help you. I'm a pro at screwing up left and right. They will help you, no judgement. All of the instructors are excellent. I've taken group ex classes long enough to know there are really crappy teachers out there. Not at pure barre. Each time I take a class, I learn new moves and ways of doing things. Angela taught my class today, and showed me better form right away in a position. It made all the difference for me. If you think it's a joke work out, take a class. It isn't. 90 seconds in plank hold isn't fun. You don't know how long 30 seconds is until you're holding a one legged hip bridge at the end of class. I really needed to get in shape for summer after being pretty sedentary for almost a year. I bought the monthly unlimited and have continued with it since. They have a student discount that's super awesome, but it is still a little pricey. However, this is such an intense workout and it really tones your body! The instructors here are all very nice and friendly, although some will be more physical in correcting than others. I like all of them and I always feel super refreshed after a class. Maybe it's the music or maybe the pain and shaking is just THAT good. Definitely give this place a try with their new client promo... but you have to commit to going consistently for a couple of weeks. I'm addicted. I've struggled with body image my whole life despite being thin and athletic for most of it - dealing with my recent weight gain has made me afraid of going to classes or the gym because of how embarrassed I am by how out of shape I have become and Pure Barre has made me excited to workout again. I'm only a few classes in and I feel great about myself again - it's exciting to feel like I'm really toning my muscles and enjoying doing it. The instructors are motivating and helpful and as weird as it sounds, human. They understand that the workout is really hard and admit it to you when you struggle but are there to push you. I've never wanted to get up at 5:30 am to get to a 6 am anything before, let alone a workout... Until Pure Barre Boston. Try it if you can - they have a lot of specials and are there to work with you so you get the most out of what you can afford. Holy heck. I am obsessed. I love the pain. I love the sweat. I love Pure Barre. About this PB location specifically, they have about 20 lockers/cubbies for your stuff, a changing room and 2 restrooms. They also carry PB clothing, equipment (balls, etc), and some cute trinkets. The instructors and girls working at the desk (not sure if everyone working at the desk also teaches) are all SUPER nice and friendly. I mean I guess I would be nice and friendly if I was in equally great shape as them. On to the classes, very fast paced and sweat-inducing. I made it through my first 90-second plank yesterday and am so proud of myself, but we will see how tonight's goes. The class begins with a warm up, transitions to light hand weights (2 lbs - 5 lbs), then you move to the barre to begin thigh and seat work. The class ends with some seriously painful ab work and some light stretching to cool down. My favorite instructor is Nicole G., who teaches during the day throughout the week. However, all the instructors have been really helpful and supportive. I have let them know at the beginning of each class that I'm still getting the hang of things and would appreciate form-correction during the class and everyone so far has been happy to oblige. I recommend bringing a small hand towel if you tend to get sweaty. They also have (over-priced) water - but you'd be better off bringing your own bottle. This is a pricey place. But I signed up for the 1 month unlimited pass (you are technically limited to 1 class per day) for $100. I think this is a really good deal and my goal is to make it to at least 25 classes. So, I will update this review in a few weeks to report whatever progress I have made in terms of weight lost, strength gained, etc. read more

I got an unlimited month for my birthday (last year) from one of my friends and I finally took my first class last night. I came in and the girl at the desk, Fiona is SUPER SWEET and just had me fill out the waiver and then she did a quick 1 minute tour (place is small). So the class started promptly at 6:40. We did warm ups and then went into different exercises focusing on different parts of the body using the ballet bar, a little red ball, a cord and small weights. This class definitely kicked my ass. You will end up shaking and feeling the burn. I would recommend getting socks with the grip on the bottom because during the 1.5 minute plank, I kept slipping sock vs. rug. The instructor is nice. She goes around and helps fix your stance but I just didn't like how she didn't do every exercise with us. I had to look around at people who have been to the classes to know what to do. Needless to say, I will definitely be using up my unlimited month as much as I can even though I am super sore right now. I definitely think after a month, my body will be toned. I will just have to wait and see. read more

It doesn't look like PB needs another 5 star review, but here goes! I'm a newbie to Barre and have tried about 7 studios in the Boston area over the past couple of months. But, I am so thoroughly impressed with PB that I can now say they are officially my favorite. While other studios do present great workouts at perhaps more reasonable prices, the staff at Pure Barre go out of their way to make you feel welcome. Admittedly, I am not the most strong or flexible student but the instructors correct my form without "calling me out" in class. The atmosphere is very relaxed and everyone makes you feel welcome- from the receptionist to the instructors. This is a welcome change from other studios with a slightly more "pretentious" vibe. The work out itself is more fast paced than other studios and it contains slightly more cardio I love that every work out starts off the same then the format is similar every class with different exercises. I am so grateful to Pure Barre for changing my outlook on Barre workouts and was a little depressed the day my 30 day intro package expired. I plan on returning as soon as my wallet allows! read more

Pure Barre is a wonderful place, which is why I'm giving it 5 stars. The instructors are so beautiful, so sweet, so enthusiastic. The studio is one of the most adorable buildings I'ver ever stepped foot in, and it smells so nice! I can't tell if it's just the pretty scents wafting up from Starbucks, but it always smells sweet and clean as soon as I walk up the stairs to the studio. I'm giving PBB the 5 stars because it deserves 5 stars; however, that does not mean that this studio is the ideal fitness option for everyone, and that includes me. I'm a girl who likes to sweat and who likes to feel utterly wiped out at the end of a workout. I HAVE felt that way after PBB classes, but only with one specific instructor. While the others (I've gone to about 5 different instructors' classes) are still good, I really only have felt truly WORKED after one, and this has prevented me from investing in a monthly membership to the studio - if I'm only going to go to one instructor's classes, that severely limits the potential of my "unlimited" membership. Furthermore, the seriously hefty monthly membership cost only includes the classes themselves...grippy socks, clothes, and even water are additional charges, and, due to the obvious lack of physical space, the studio does not have showers, which makes going to work after class a real challenge. I love Pure Barre and I think this studio, especially, is doing an amazing job. I just find that I need more comprehensive amenities in my workout routine, and that's something I really can't find at a fitness boutique, even one as fabulous as PBB. read more

Pure Barre is my obsession! I am constantly looking for new workouts that don't bore me; I'm a runner, former dancer, and have tried every workout you could imagine. After finishing insanity I was convinced I wouldn't be able to find a workout that would challenge me & transform my body, fortunately, pure barre proved me wrong! I signed up for the month unlimited and went as often as possible. I have seen ridiculous changes in my body and everyone constantly notices how small my waist has gotten and how defined my abs, legs, and arms are! The best thing about Pure Barre is you actually feel like you're getting a great workout. I have tried other barre classes including Barre Method on Newbury and none of them compare to Pure Barre, so much so that I am saving up for unlimited at Pure Barre again even though I have a month unlimited at another studio, the workout just doesn't compare making it TOTALLY worth my money. And of course, the instructors are amazing and so sweet! Every other studio I go to the instructors ask me my name every class, even if I've been there 5 days in a row. However, Pure Barre always greets me with a warm smile and they are the nicest people you could meet; they make you want to go! The instructors are also all in great shape, proving that Pure Barre works! Being a runner, work out classes are usually not my thing. I prefer to throw in the ear-buds and head for a long run outdoors. However, I realized I needed some help with toning and strengthening, so when my friend; a Newton Pure Barre devotee; told me a location was coming to my beloved Back Bay, I decided to give it a shot. We bought the pre-opening package, $100 for 5 weeks unlimited, which was an awesome deal. Pure Barre is amazing. The staff is great, the studio is adorable, and the class kicks your butt (in a good way). I am usually a little intimidated by the super skinny, super pretty instructors clad in head to toe lulu lemon you see at a lot of gyms and studios, but the girls who work here are very sweet and approachable. They also know what they are doing and are very helpful in explaining the technique and fixing your form. The classes are an hour long and are non-stop. It works on toning your abs, seat and thighs. You also do some work on arms. My muscles were shaking and I was sweating profusely 5 minutes into the first class. It is really hard and you are sore when you're walking out of class, but it is also super addicting! You leave there feeling like it was an hour well spent. It is pricey, but they have deals, so keep your eyes out for those. I highly recommend trying a class. It is something different, and judging by the instructors and the girls who have been doing it for awhile, it yields great results! read more

Tuck, Tuck, Tuck -- That is the blissful word that the instructors say when you want to get a great workout. They're right! I've been going to Pure Barre for a week - 7 classes total. First, the studio is an amazing oasis among the busy streets of Newbury. It's peaceful, zen, and super clean. As soon as you walk in, you're greeted by either Lauren (owner) or any of the fabulous instructors, who are ready to take you on a 60 minute journey of burning(good), lifting, and toning. The workouts are great and they definitely challenge your body to work with the techniques in each class. As someone who has taken ballet before, these techniques work on your main areas: torso, legs, abs, and arms. Using both moves from pilates and ballet, your body is in for a treat. Within 1 week, I am more flexible and am feeling stronger. Thank you awesome women of pure barre... you all rock! Pro tip: get the socks. This is the most I have worked out in ages, maybe my whole life. I hate working out, I am terrible at committing to going, and I usually get bored and would rather stay home and eat everything...but...I joined PB only about a week ago and have been almost every single day since. I am in pain, really sore, but a good sore...like you know you worked all these muscles you never usually do. The studio is calm and cute, everyone is really nice, I like it a lot. As a former dancer it reminds me of a dance studio and I get a little excited every time I come in. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful, which I really appreciate. The classes are tough, one of the hardest workouts I have done. I usually lean towards spin classes for a hard workout, but I have some issues with my hip and spin really bothers me. I have had zero hip issues this week at PB, I can actually feel the exercises strengthening my hips- awesome! With each class you begin to understand how you should be moving and where you are targeting, the instructors are very calm (they don't yell like in other workout classes) they often come around and fix you a little bit here and there, which is super helpful. I asked a few questions my first class and they were really great at showing me what to do. I am pretty addicted, which I have never said about any workout ever. It's expensive...but I am even thinking about trying to make it work after the one month special I bought...because I am already seeing/feeling results (its only been a week!) I bought the socks ($12) and just wear whatever yoga pants/regular tanks I have, I have read reviews where people are concerned they should be wearing expensive attire- don't be! The entire Pure Barre Boston experience is absolutely delightful. The moment you walk in you're greeted not only by the sweetest pbb girls, but also amazing scents and a breathtaking studio space. My first trip was one week after the opening and it was so refreshing to walk into a relaxed, friendly environment. Lauren (the owner) and the entire staff make an effort to know each of their clients and immediately make you comfortable--they're all super approachable! Before Pure Barre, I had never tried bar method, so I honestly had no idea what I was getting myself into. But after the first class I was hooked. The workouts are great and if you stick with it, you'll notice an increase in flexibility and feel stronger with each class. I'll never forget leaving my first class, i felt like Kevin McCallister in Home Alone-- "I'm not afraid anymore!!" But seriously, if you're considering a class, DO IT! You won't regret it! The loft space is beautiful, and the staff are friendly. If you live or work nearby I'd recommend checking this place out. I have been going to PB Boston for several months now, so it is time to finally write a review. I cannot say enough good things. The studio is consistently clean, adorable, and welcoming. The staff (receptionists, teachers, and Lauren, the owner) are all consistently helpful and accommodating. Teachers are always willing to take a few extra minutes at the end of class to help you with something you just didn't understand, and they are amazingly encouraging when you're having a hard day. The different teachers have different strengths -- when I want technique corrections, I go to Angela or Lauren's classes, when I want serious motivation and awesome music, I pick Nicole -- I could go on and on, but seriously, every teacher is fantastic. Before I started, I was concerned about the fact that it was on Newbury Street across from a Lululemon. I had preconceived ideas about "the types of people who go to barre class" and I felt intimidated. I am so glad that I got over myself, because starting the very first day, I found that everyone there is extremely nice, down-to-earth and encouraging. I have made several friends in class (people get addicted to this, and you end up seeing each other all the time), and it has started to feel like a community for me. My other concern at first was price. Two things: (1) they often run great specials, (2) even at full price, when you find a workout that is fun enough that you want to go every day, and effective enough that you're in the best shape of your life, it's worth it. I'm in better shape than I was in college, when I was taking dance classes 20 hours a week. No lie. It's all due to this magical place. read more

I first found out about Pure Barre from Ashley Spivey of The Bachelor fame (no shame). I'm a runner, but seriously need/want to tone up my thighs and butt. Pure Barre is supposed to "lift, tone, and burn" so that your whole body is tight and..well...lifted. Sounds good to me. I signed up for the pre-opening special - the Newbury St location opened in early December - $100 for five weeks. Pure Barre is definitely expensive, so I highly recommend buying one of the deals to get your money's worth. I went to my first class one day this past week, and took another one the next day. The studio is warm, clean, and inviting, and the (two) bathrooms smell really nice (hey, it's important! ). There are small lockers you can use to store your stuff (and I mean really small, so don't bring a giant gym big like yours truly did her first time, but there are matching keys that go with them so you don't need to bring a lock). There is one changing stall as well. When I first arrived, I was greeted so warmly and kindly by the owner, Lauren. She and the instructors (I've met Fiona and Nicole B so far) are all SO sweet and ridiculously in shape. Normally, I've been intimidated by dance and Pilates instructors, due to their impossibly sculpted bodies and often "hotter than thou" attitudes...but these women are absolutely lovely. I didn't feel judged or looked down upon at all. They even offered to help me with my form, since I'm so new and I want to make sure I get the best workout possible. So sweet :). They also don't call you out on your sucky form in front of everyone in class - they just gently help you as you go if it's needed without saying it into the microphone - I SO APPRECIATE THIS! No more feeling like a humiliated twit like I have elswhere. The class: it's totally kickass, literally. The progession goes from a small cardio warmup, to ab warm up, arms, thigh work at the barre, seat work at the barre, and floor abs and seat work (or something like that). The music is upbeat; remixed top 40 music, and you don't spend too much time on one exercise, which I LOVE. It's all really difficult, because it involves tiny "isometric", or small, movements, which burn. A lot. The thigh work in particular had me wincing in pain, half wanting to jump out the window, but it was a blissful type of burn. Rather odd, actually. After the class, I felt like a complete super star...and then I tried to walk down the stairs, which humbled me again. A few tips/more info: 1) Wear leggings/long workout pants, a tank, and grippy socks (if you don't have them, the studio sells them for $12/pair. This class isn't about wearing your booty shorts and sports bra...and you're not allowed to anyway (the heat from being covered makes the workout more effective, I think?) 2) GRAB THE 2 POUND WEIGHTS AND NOT THE HEAVIER ONES IF IT'S YOUR FIRST TIME. Trust me on this one. 3) Sign up in advance; the classes get full ridiculously fast. 4) Do not underestimate that little red playground ball. It will not bring back happy memories of school recess. It burns. 5) Try closing your eyes during some of the tough movements - that really has helped me stay centered and not get distracted :). 6) Definitely ask any of the intructors for help with form. I think they'd be more than happy to assist you! (For example, I still don't quite know what the infamous "tuck" is supposed to look like). I really recommend you try Pure Barre if you're looking for a whole new type of workout that promises quick results. Give it a try at least - a single class is $23, but I do think it's absolutely worth a shot :). read more

Ah Pure Barre, now that I'm addicted to you, I should tell others about you.. I love all things fitness. I do yoga, I run, I love cycling, I used to dive, dance and figure skate. SO, that all being considered of course I'd be interested in the new trend that is barre classes. I work with a lovely lady who has a bangin' bod and some hercules arms to boot, and when I inquired about how much she lifts, she goes "I hate the gym, all I do is the bar method." So this was back in November of 2012 that I had this little chat, and pure barre was opening up, literally right next door to where I work (and not far from where I live) so clearly my mind got a'turnin. I signed up for gilt city's special opening offer from pure barre and now we'll fast forward to when PBB opened and I finally got to go! I was sore for 3 days after my first class. Not kidding. But, I found myself addicted - I REALLY wanted to go back and do it all again even though I was hurting. Never did I actually think I could find a workout that would genuinely challenge my thighs like PB does, furthermore, I never actually thought my butt could shake (uncontrollably) during a workout. I was wrong. PB continues to challenge me each time I go, but not in the way that I'm ruined for the rest of the day, just in the way that I know I worked out. And it feels great! Now that I've been to classes for a while, I've returned to running as well as PB, but in the beginning it is all you need or want to do! Now after telling you what a great workout it is, lets discuss the actual studio. The staff is really really friendly, they make an effort to get to know each client, as other reviews have also said, and Lauren (the owner) is there aLOT and always so approachable. If I ever did actually have a concern or complaint I would not be afraid to bring it up to her. And even better, I have had the absolute privilege of being in a class taught by Lauren twice, and believe me, she brings the fire. In the greatest of ways, of course. The studio is always clean, spacious and happy-feeling (thats the only way I can think of to describe it) - and their bathrooms are always stocked, clean and smelling fresh (petty I know, but important!) It is a little expensive, but TOTALLY worth it (especially if you need a great de-stress from school and work, like I do) and they also run deals relatively frequently, not to mention that PB offers a student discount, so that's really awesome! I've only been going for probably about a month now, and I've definitely noticed my body changing. I strongly recommend PB; it's not for the faint of heart, but it is for those who want change and want to be addicted to something really great! read more

It hurts so good... I love Pure Barre. I was a little skeptical to try this class at first because I am a runner/rower. I always feel like I need major cardio! However, I have lost more weight with barre classes than in any other exercise class. I bought their first client deal-- $100 for 1 month of unlimited classes. I have been going for 2 weeks now everyday and have lost 3 pounds. I am very impressed every time I go into class-- you always feel worked! I already notice a major difference in my legs ;-)! I'd give this place five stars based on the quality of the exercise alone but the high price point pushes it down to four. I was skeptical of Pure Barre because in the past I've done a lot of high intensity workouts (HIIT and CrossFit) and I was proved wrong. The isometric movements done in Pure Barre really help to LIFT. Although I haven't been eating very clean this year, I have seen and felt a difference in my body after going 5 or 6 times. I'm fairly active but always struggle with my mid section. Barre really lifts yours abdominal wall and it feels great! I also love that there's an ambience within the PB studio: you get to dress up and feel feminine while still getting a great workout. I wish this studio were a member of the ClassPass network! read more

Huge fan of the Pure Barre method, and the Boston studio doesn't disappoint! The staff is friendly and welcoming and always available for questions and tips. Each time I have taken a new teacher's class, she has personally welcomed me and asked for my name, and I really appreciate that touch. The workout is low impact but still challenging, and perfect for someone who does not like overly strenuous activity. Check out the specials that they occasionally run - first month unlimited for $100, 13 classes for $13 each during Halloween, etc. read more

Came to a Friday morning class and it was fabulous. The music complimented the workout perfectly, the instructor was very hands on and it was much harder than I was expecting ( in a good way). Can't wait to come back! read more

I need to update my review to 5 stars! I went back this afternoon and used 1 of the complimentary classes Lauren had credited me with. WOW-what an amazing 2nd impression. Besides the fact that Lauren is legit 1 of the nicest people I have ever met, her class was kick-butt awesome! I was seriously sweating during the first 5 minutes-something that never usually happens to me in a barre class. I felt like I got a great workout, and Lauren was so attentive at helping w with the positions and modifications. We even spoke after class and she sent me an email to make sure I had a good experience this time around. I don't remember which teacher I took class from the 1st time, but I will DEFINITELY be taking Lauren's class again! read more

I am an avid barre-goer; I am a regular customer at the Brookline location. I've always been curious about the Boston location, so was happy when the opportunity to take class during their open house weekend came up. Lauren (the owner) greeted me at the front desk and showed me around. I was surprised how spacious the reception area was: there are two bathrooms, a changing room, free lockers and keys, and an awesome selection of merchandise. The studio itself was on the smaller side, but not once did I feel like I didn't have enough room to move around or stretch. Fiona made sure to explain the basics to everyone at the beginning and did a great job teaching class. Though I have a class package commitment with the Brookline studio, I would love to switch it up once in a while and return to the Boston location. Seriously, awesome job with the studio! read more

I love barre. Pure Barre is no exception! The main thing that I am not a huge fan of at Pure Barre is the packed classes (I'm always afraid of kicking someone) and few corrections during class. The classes are challenging and Angela is awesome, but I do wish more corrections were made so that we can improve our form even more. I did notice that the water only rule wasn't enforced much, and girls constantly don't have their socks on before they enter the studio, eww. Other than that, a great workout! read more

Pure Barre is great workout and the staff at the Newbury location is SO friendly and helpful. The owner is very very nice and goes out of her way to make everyone feel welcome (even newcomers). I've been around a lot of dancers before and sometimes studios can feel cliquey but this one doesn't at all. Plus, it's a brand new location so super clean and nice to work out again. Definitely give it a shot! Only downside is that it's a bit expensive... read more

I really like PBB - the girls are all gorgeous, super friendly and helpful. They really take time to ask your name and compliment you in class if you're doing it well. That is encouraging when you are shaking like crazy and feel like breaking form! I like the workout. After my first class I shook for a full 4 hours. After 10 months, I still shake and burn each class. I'm frequently sore the day after and I can feel my technique getting better. Probably took a full 6 months before I could properly pick up on the subtleties of the technique and really isolate my muscles. Stick with it to have that "Ah ha" moment! Drawbacks, its definitely quite pricey and I get full effect by combining it with cardio. It's not enough for me on its own. I also wish they offered an advanced class or a second class to mix it up once and a while. Overall, PBB feels like a little family and I love waking up pre-dawn to LTB! read more

Was visiting from a northern Virginia studio and came in to check out the newbury street studio. When I went in it must have been after a class or something and the staff totally ignored me. This was not the welcoming pure barre community I am used to. read more
