When it comes to fitness, I'm game for just about anything. Just about. To preface, I'm disciplined…read morein the beat-the-heck-out-of-your-body arts, you know, pushups and situps and lifting and punching, alongside a little stretching here and there, for balance. As a general rule, I like to sweat. I'm of the midwestern German/Jewish/British bloodline so my veins are pretty heated, thus when I get moving, I'm a faucet, it's disgusting, honestly. If you're anywhere near my proximity when I'm dripping, stay away. I'm like a garden hose under thunderous pressure, hurling my droplets upon unsuspecting passers by. I should also preface this with the admission that I enjoyed an introduction to Pilates from a friend/associate/trainer who offered to show me the ropes, springs and stands of the art free of charge. I didn't take a class and although the personal training session wasn't leveraged on an agreement to review the venue, I can't claim this was a genuine appointment with the business. Like many of you, I was genuinely curious about Pilates. Years of television commercials offered virtually no clue into the underworld of this fascinating practice, and once I was there, in a facility equipped with the very best, I totally got it. Pilates is the yin in my aging, overburdened yang. I'm about to turn 40, about to hit that Over the Hill mark, and that means I hurt, mysteriously, in places that never hurt before. As we age, we realize that stretching and activating those muscle groups that we ignored for 40 years suddenly matters. Momentum Studio is an excessively clean, dynamic facility decked out with machines that are built to bend you sideways, upwards and out. The contraptions in this place, man, they're genius inventions of wood and coil, pulley and spoke, the kind of thing your nutty neighbor developed in his garage, and they work wonders. One hour of work in here will realign your spine and reset your clock to Zen. Next visit, I'm investigating Barre. Can't wait.

(Brian, Aline, Liz, Kelly, & Lourdes - every one awesome) They offer (& recommend) a new customer package of four private lessons. They will allow you to split that with a friend though, making it even MORE affordable. After that they have class packages and also a drop-in rate. Open studio available for those whose training is already more advanced. I've been looking for a studio or some place to go that is more supportive than where I've been taking physical therapy (which I believe is actually making my joint injury worse as they have a specific goal in mind and push, push, push to get to it in the prescribed amount of appointments), and I've found it! I have no fear that the work I do here will be comprehensive, challenging, but appropriate for me and safe. I'm looking forward to starting Pilates equipment and Barre classes!!

She even worked with my treating physician to secure medical insurance coverage for 30 private sessions! Lourdes goes above and beyond to care for her clients, many of whom she considers to be friends. She has clients that have been with her for 8 and 10 years, and after only 4 months, I understand their loyalty. I knew PT wasn't making me stronger, but I didn't know what I could reasonably expect from Pilates. Lourdes has slowly and steadily helped me build strength and flexibility in a safe, supervised way that doesn't add to my injury. She checks in frequently to make sure I'm okay after a session that was particularly challenging, and she makes me feel so empowered (yep, just like the name of her business) when I can execute a particular exercise or do something that demonstrates progress. I truly appreciate how professional she is - her dedication to continuous learning and trainings that allow her to keep up with new techniques and best practices. Lourdes always wants what is best for her clients. On top of being exceptionally good at what she does, she happens to be one of the loveliest humans. When my 70-year-old mother visited ABQ, Lourdes invited her to join a session and showed such care to make her feel comfortable while getting a good workout. I've never met anyone like Lourdes, and after years of PT, I feel like Pilates is actually improving my quality of life - physically and mentally. I look forward to each session with Lourdes. Her studio is a peaceful place to exercise, and her prices are more than fair. We are lucky to have her in this community, and I'm lucky to have discovered a lifelong hobby that builds me up and allows me to spend time with someone as kind-hearted as Lourdes.

I'm extremely fit and that's after a head-on auto injury in my 20's which gave me a crushed leg (they almost cut it off!!), R arm broken in half and my bones overlap now, and a head injury which was numb for 9 months. TBI? I've had a knee and 2 hip replacements and found out I have scoliosis. Mom was doubled in half when she died at 97. I focus on my back being limber so I won't have the same fate. So far no issues. I see these classes as helping me to stay strong and limber and able to use my body. Balance has also saved me from falling on many occasions! I had a PE (pulmonary embolism) a few years back and found I need to stay active to stay alive. I'm 75, 5'5" and weigh 115#. And they also have a large network so I can go to others when I'm in other states.

If you like overpaying for old equipment, and a daycare vs. a gym, then this is your place!…read moreStarting late May this "gym," turns into a childcare facility it seems. There's kid's definitely younger than 15 running amuck around the gym all over in the afternoons. Taking machines just to screw around for hours with no supervision. Seems like a huge liability to me, but the parent's probably pay enough for their entire families that the management turns a blind eye. On top of the kids everywhere, the equipment is mostly old and way outdated, though they keep the upholstery good. They have minimal attachments for cable machines.....like, almost nothing for them....I've seen hotel gyms with more cable attachments.... 2 set's of dumbbells, 2 set's of ez grip barbells, & 1 set of regular barbells. A couple of squat racks, and a couple smith machines. Two to 3 flat bench presses, a prehistoric preacher curl bench, and minimal other free weights. The workout machines are older than dirt, in fact they are the oldest of any gym I've seen around town, which is absurd for the price per month. When you want a specific handle/attachment for a cable machine, odds are they don't even have it, and if they have 1, it's taken.....Zero arm machines!! They have a pretty good amount of leg machines with 4 leg machines being brand new but they're the only new machines in the mix with all the other ancient stuff they have. Chest and back are both mediocre machine wise as well....The sauna is 10 to 15 degrees less than it should be and definitely the coldest one I've been to in town aside from Defined hilltop. The steam room is good. The locker rooms are plain DUMB! You have to pay extra to rent a locker, or use one of the one's with stupid pre-programmable installed locks that sometimes don't work when you need to get back into it..... Always fun to walk up front to the entry way in your microscopic towel that they provide you.... They do give out towels at least, which is nice, but a lot of them feel like sand paper and they are on the small side. Mostly they don't have any stain's at least but I've switched out a few that do. Overall the towel's just don't feel good, and are uncomfortable. They also provide gel, soaps, shaving cream, and some other necessities which is nice. The male locker room staff is top notch. They are all very nice and work hard to keep the place clean and help people when needed. The front desk younger girl with brown hair always seems to be put out to do her job....They never say goodbye or anything when you leave, like all the other gyms do in town either. The basketball courts are solid and the balls in decent condition for the most part, and they have all sizes. Pick up games happen at certain times, and at others you have the whole thing to yourself(though that's done for the summer I'd bet). Overall this gym is way overrated and over priced for what they offer weight wise. Theirs kids messing around and taking up machines, and the added amenities they do provide are shoddy and not very nice.
