Thank you so much!…read more We are currently on a road trip and had to get our daily workout, and this "box" was perfect! It was a GREAT drop-in workout with cardio and weights. And our coach (I'm sorry I missed her name but she had the faded rainbow hair with one side cut short) was knowledgeable and attentive, and really encouraged us through the workout! We also brought our two daughters, and when the music got a little explicit, she switched the songs. She didn't have to, as the words were fast enough and our girls were entertained and distracted by the pups sitting off to the side that they didn't notice, but she did and she took the initiative, and I was VERY appreciative. It was one of those little things that went above and beyond and I was grateful. We loved it and will for sure come in again next summer on our 2020 road trip to Missouri! (This year it's Maryland).

I've been a member of Burque's active community for a few years (let's get real- gym rat, exercise junkie, person on the Bosque that says on your left waaay louder than deemed necessary). I started hearing more and more about Crossfit and decided to investigate the legit way- YouTube. I was blown away watching these terrifying feats of strength/endurance and immediately thought not my scene. Saying you can't do something is lame- and certainly not how Mr. Rogers raised me to think. I woke up one morning and decided to take the plunge in the world of badassery (yeah that's a word now) I rolled up to Sandia Crossfit thinking "Will I survive? I'm going to be the only person without knee socks....I cant do a pull up if a kittens life depended on it" One free intro class later I was hooked. (Saturday 11-12 free intro hour) Sandia Crossfit is the only gym I've seen that takes "Anyone can crossfit" to heart. The workouts are tailored to your own capabilities, you will be able to participate no matter your fitness background/limitations. The instructors are knowledgable and genuinely want to help you get the most out of the class- quickly offering adjustments, modifications ( or in my case- pushing me to the level I want to be). Classes are an hour comprising of warmup workout, technique work, and lastly a WOD that will give you that endorphin rush you've been jonesing for. They also offer functional yoga as well as mobility (Mobility is taught by a physical therapist at no extra cost- seriously) Paleo pot lucks, snow shoe outings, swim wods? I can't say enough about my love for this place, the people that run it, or the sport of Crossfit.

I particularly enjoy the side gym, which has core balls, free weights, dumbbells kettle balls, and stretching bands. The use of wage seems so important in maintaining health, and this group provides plenty of opportunity for such exercising with lots of other folks who are similarly trying to improve their health . One of the nicest features of the club are the members who look out for one another and respect one another.

New Heart NM is a medically supervised gym for people recovering from heart attacks, strokes, covid, or fighting obesity. It's also a place to go if you want to get approved for a workout by a cardiologist, with a routine pulled together by one of several kinesiologists or exercise specialists. It's also used by seniors who have access to the Silver Sneakers program set up as part of their insurance or medicare. It's largely an under-utlized gym, where all the equipment is in very good shape and kept clean by rules of Covid and all of the clients there adhere to the rules. If anything, they have too much equipment on the floor, given than it's never more than 10% full. The staff is welcoming, well educated, and each client is committed to their routine and has to track BP, O2, and heart rates throughout their designated exercise routine. Target heart rates, resistance levels, and circuits are all noted on detailed exercise sheets that every client has to keep track of. Where they could improve greatly is refining their work flow. They need to invest in a way to keep track of all the data electronically so that the staff isn't faced with a mountain of data entry everyday. What's the point of having a kinesiologist or an exercise specialist if they're not able to be on the floor regularly, encourage clients, and share knowledge if all you're doing is having them do data entry? Because the personal touch is how you earn a good reputation as well as getting new members. Without their enthusiasm, this is simply a place for old people on Silver Sneakers to shuffle through. They're also not working to get Gen X'ers and Gen Y's, who also might have issues with obesity, high blood pressure or diabetes. Pretty much everyone there is an aging boomer or older. There's much they could do to expand their services to provide services that they can bill insurance for. They could clear out the small room and turn that into Physical Therapy with Physical Therapists for recovering orthopedic patients and people who've been sent thru worker's comp. They could have a robust dietary program, staffed by a clinical Registered Dietician who works with not only those who want to lose weight, but those trying to come back from fighting cancer. They could do more adaptive sports training for those with mobility limitations. A higher profile overall when it comes to supporting athletic or fitness events that active people want to be in will help people find out about them, gain credibility in the community, and get them in. In all, there's only upwards to go, but that will involve retooling their board of directors and add persons with strong community networking, and financial backgrounds, who want to see this gym a success and unclip the wings of the present staff who are all stuck behind computers. Operated properly, and expanded to the westside and the NE, this gym could save and enhance lives.

Listen, the onset was rough…read more My niece said she wanted an archery kit for her birthday, but it's an expensive venture. So, I thought I would let her try it first. We called to schedule a practice session. I was told "you don't have to book, it's first-come-first-serve, except Thursday that's when we have tournaments." So, I took my niece on a different day of the week. Got there at 1pm. The staff looked at me like I was CRAZY just walking in expecting to shoot. I was embarrassed. I told them that I tried to schedule and was told "don't have to," I explained it's hard to just plan a time to take the niece out and this is her bday and her bday gift. They told us to come back tomorrow "around 5pm" to shoot for 45mins and they would comp the rental, and we would just pay for the instructors time. So, we went back the next day. Instructors were GREAT, equipment was great. Went from flinging the arrow on the ground to hitting my target head-on (niece obviously better than me). The environment was friendly. We get to checkout and it's $90. I don't question it. I get home and my partner says it was only supposed to cost $45... they forgot to comp. So he calls, he's upset, and they end up refunding the whole amount. Look, I'm not trying to get free things. The planning was inconvenient, staff communication a little inconsistent. But the experience was a HIT. Overall, I was so thankful my niece had an amazing experience that I didn't think twice when it came out to $90. For the instructional sessions and equipment-- that's a good price. Was even happier that it ended up being free. If there is one thing I can say: they make things right. 9/10 recommend.

Somehow elitist and not knowledgeable at the same time…read more First trip in unplanned to buy some practice arrows and was told, "we usually have you pint you bow in so we can figure out what kind of arrow you need." Well I'm not going home and coming back my friend. Just point me to the arrows if you don't want to actually help. Second time I came in for a standard arrow guide replacement and was told I could order one and return to the store later for the $4 very standard item. Why would I order it to the store and have to drive back instead of ordering online? Basic components out of stock tells me I should just order my components elsewhere anyhow. They are definitely composite bow oriented. When I came in the guy didn't even know I was talking about when I asked for replacement arrow guides for a long bow.
