On a Sunday, wait staff was running around, very busy. Food and drink wise - I really enjoyed my cazuelita. It was the perfect size for one person, maybe even 2 to share. My husband's Catrina was huge and had mango, which added a tropical twist. We both added salsa negra to give it more depth and umami. His michelada with the weird cuero/deep fried meat was kind of random and honestly unnecessary. I do recommend it for some good ceviche, just be patient and maybe bring a hand held fan?

I love menudo so any place that serves it is always on my bookmarks as it's not always served everywhere. When we arrived, it's not your traditional restaurant as you go up to the counter to order and you can get your own salsa, drinks, condiments and even chips while you wait for your order. The interior is colorful and spacious. They have plenty of tables and chairs in the restaurant and you also do buss your own tables. They have music playing on the TV and speaker while other TVs will silently display different sports. They had lots of other salsas that I've never seen offered at other places so that was a bonus as it was probably one of the most delicious salsas, I've ever had. It took a little of time for food to arrived but they did have some orders ahead of us and we weren't in a big rush. Just be aware there might be a bit of a longer wait. When food arrived though, it looked appetizing and the portions were pretty big. The menudo was savory and had a good amount of meats and hominy in it. I dumped all of the seasonings that came with it and it made it even better. I also enjoy rice with my menudo instead of tortillas cause I'm used to having my stews and soups with rice. My boyfriend was happy with his meal though he isn't a fan of guacamole but I enjoyed it with their chips. I also enjoy that their rice has green beans, corn, peas and carrots (definitely from a frozen package) but it tasted more flavorful and had fun textures in comparison to other cheap Mexican food places. We also got fountain drinks and I really enjoyed their aqua frescas. I have only tried their horchata and Jamaica as I didn't see the passion fruit one but it was refreshing and well-made.

The refried beans had light bacon taste mixed with fluffy Spanish rice making it a winning combination for this guy. My wife had tortilla soup in the largest bowl I had seen from a restaurant. Tender shredded chicken breast, fresh avocado, tomatoes onion and clump of melting cheese. We left the restaurant stuffed plus leftovers. Thank you for a full belly!

There was a great selection of food, but the pozole was definitely a standout--absolutely amazing. The tamales were also really good and surprisingly moist, which can be hit or miss at buffets. They also have all-you-can-eat birria, which was a huge plus. I loved that they provide corn tortillas for the tacos, too. The service was another highlight. Everyone was friendly, attentive, and incredibly quick, which made the whole experience even better. Very cute mexican decor as well. Overall, this is a fantastic spot if you're looking for a filling and authentic Mexican lunch with plenty of variety. The food stays fresh, the selection is great, and the value is hard to beat. We'll definitely be coming back!

She brings us the chips and salsa and left for a while. Then came back to took our order still didn't ask for a drink but we finally got water. We ordered queso and it came out quick. The queso tasted like it was sitting in the fridge for a long time then warmed up in the microwave. I ordered 2 tacos which were okay for just regular carnita tacos. My fiance had ordered the supreme burrito. Normally burritos are freshly made to order so we thought it would take some time for our food to be made. However, the food came 4 minutes later, quickest made burrito. The burrito was chewy and it was cold in the middle. It was also a pre made microwaved burrito. He couldn't finish it because it didn't want to get sick. The waitress only came twice to take the order and for payment. There's other Mexican restaurants around the area that you should go to.

The dishes we chose were tasty and the plating was nicely done too. We were sold a guacamole appetizer by our friendly and helpful server which was good but probably not worth the $14 that appeared on our final bill - yikes. We will be back for another meal, for sure. There are some interesting things to try on the menu, and again, we liked our initial choices here. Note that La Rioja doesn't have a liquor license, and so you can't get a real margarita here, if that's your thing.

They had a taco guy set up outside so we got tacos de carnitas, which were very good, and a mix of cabeza meats. The queso tasted good, and the steak marinade was different but good. Husband is hard to please with salsas, but he liked these ones. Horchata was great, but again, the price was exorbitant. Cons - a $6 coke and my husband's tacos being served on a random paper plate...prices are crazy for the area this restaurant is located at. I got the feeling that the restaurant was a fancy cover for a casual taco place, meaning fancy looking but the staff kept calling out to each other, kind of yelling, obviously not caring about the plating, etc. The queso fundido came with a random piece of tripa, which kind of grossed me out, but I understand cross contamination is bound to happen with an outside cooking station. The steak marinade reminded me of a rice/Asian marinade, so while it was good, it didn't quite fit with the Mexican cuisine for me. Also, I kept burping it up 2 days after, so clearly it didn't sit right with me. Husband felt they skimmed on the chorizo sausage, as his plate came with a piece of sausage, not a full one.
