We sampled the revueltas (pork, beans, cheese), loroco con queso (a special flower), calabazitas (squash), and chicharrón (pork) pupusas. We ate them with a generous amount of curtido (a fantastic pickled, slightly spicy cabbage slaw condiment.) Ingredient driven and freshly made. So happy to see they were so busy, as well. Full Stars! This is the best burrito in all of Tacoma/Lakewood!!! I tell everyone to try them. People don't know what they are missing, because they are just getting pupusas. Who would think they would have great burritos. So, these are not like any other burritos, because they are not Mexican. They use their delicious black beans, their white rice with a few little veg, sour cream, onions, cilantro, you can get really good chile sauce if you want it spicy. The sauce is so good. No cheese... can you believe it? Cheese is not even needed. You can get chicken or carne asada, or like we got, no meat and they will add avocado slices. I really wanted no meat, and platano frito added. This is what we used to get, and it's great. They should add a no meat option to the menu, and also the platano option. Everyone that loves unique delicious burritos, come check this place out. The guy that took my order was friendly, and even made our burrito half no cilantro. Thanks! They get busy.

When we saw what we received, we honestly couldn't believe that was what we had paid for. The price is completely disproportionate to the size of the product. There's a difference between charging more for an artisanal product and setting prices that make customers feel like they're being taken advantage of. For $50, you expect to receive something that actually justifies the price, not something so small that you're left wondering how it could possibly cost that much. We left extremely upset and disappointed. As customers, we feel like we wasted our money. They seriously need to reconsider their prices and be much more transparent about the size of what they're selling. To me, this isn't offering a premium product; it's charging an outrageous price for a minimal amount. Last night, it took 15 minutes after we sat down for someone to just ask us, "has anyone helped you?" Twice when we ordered pupusas for our toddlers with drink orders, the kids' pupusas don't arrive until AFTER everyone else's main dishes have arrived (and after we have to remind the waitress). Cocktails have been forgotten, which we have had to remind them on as well. To our server's credit, she apologized many times and said the restaurant just got super busy at once. However, we noticed other tables (who arrived after us) were attended to and served sooner than we were. Given all the disorder, our family has decided we are just going to get takeout. The food is still excellent, but we are frustrated with the service.

I love menudo so any place that serves it is always on my bookmarks as it's not always served everywhere. When we arrived, it's not your traditional restaurant as you go up to the counter to order and you can get your own salsa, drinks, condiments and even chips while you wait for your order. The interior is colorful and spacious. They have plenty of tables and chairs in the restaurant and you also do buss your own tables. They have music playing on the TV and speaker while other TVs will silently display different sports. They had lots of other salsas that I've never seen offered at other places so that was a bonus as it was probably one of the most delicious salsas, I've ever had. It took a little of time for food to arrived but they did have some orders ahead of us and we weren't in a big rush. Just be aware there might be a bit of a longer wait. When food arrived though, it looked appetizing and the portions were pretty big. The menudo was savory and had a good amount of meats and hominy in it. I dumped all of the seasonings that came with it and it made it even better. I also enjoy rice with my menudo instead of tortillas cause I'm used to having my stews and soups with rice. My boyfriend was happy with his meal though he isn't a fan of guacamole but I enjoyed it with their chips. I also enjoy that their rice has green beans, corn, peas and carrots (definitely from a frozen package) but it tasted more flavorful and had fun textures in comparison to other cheap Mexican food places. They had a taco guy set up outside so we got tacos de carnitas, which were very good, and a mix of cabeza meats. The queso tasted good, and the steak marinade was different but good. Husband is hard to please with salsas, but he liked these ones. Horchata was great, but again, the price was exorbitant. Cons - a $6 coke and my husband's tacos being served on a random paper plate...prices are crazy for the area this restaurant is located at. I got the feeling that the restaurant was a fancy cover for a casual taco place, meaning fancy looking but the staff kept calling out to each other, kind of yelling, obviously not caring about the plating, etc. The queso fundido came with a random piece of tripa, which kind of grossed me out, but I understand cross contamination is bound to happen with an outside cooking station. The steak marinade reminded me of a rice/Asian marinade, so while it was good, it didn't quite fit with the Mexican cuisine for me. Also, I kept burping it up 2 days after, so clearly it didn't sit right with me. Husband felt they skimmed on the chorizo sausage, as his plate came with a piece of sausage, not a full one.
