BEWARE! See attached photos/videos. We brought our beloved Lilly Peppercorn to Puppy's Playpen, providing clear reference photos of exactly how she should be styled. PP sliced her eyelid with scissors, botched her appearance, crushed her spirit, took zero accountability, showed zero compassion, and cancelled US as customers. During pick-up, our dog looked nothing like she was supposed to. Worse yet, we noticed that she was squinting in one eye and it was red and bloodshot. When we asked what happened, they casually dismissed it, saying, "She probably just had hair in her eye." After putting Lilly P in the car and looking at her some more, we decided my S/O would go back in and ask for a refund for the trim. They tried to tell my S/O that I specifically requested changes to her appearance when I dropped her off. In reality, I TEXTED the groomer (that morning during drop-off) a photo of how she is meant to look after a trim and asked them not to deviate from her style at all. While they begrudgingly approved a refund, the manager, Valerie, rather than taking any accountability or providing any degree of customer service, said that Puppy's Playpen would be cancelling us as customers. Once we got home, our poor girl was quivering, clearly shaken, and not acting like herself. She wouldn't play or engage with us at all, which is completely out of character as she is 100% play-driven. She just sat on the couch, shaking and squinting with one eye. Concerned, we took her to the vet, only to discover that her eyelid had been sliced through with scissors and that she would need anti-biotic / steroid eyedrops to heal up. When we called the shop about the issue, not only did they refuse to take accountability, but the same manager, Valerie, showed no compassion, empathy, or care AT ALL. Instead of offering any meaningful resolution, she coldly told us, that they would not reimburse vet bills, citing their terms of service applicable to everyone, and reminding us not to come in again. This entire experience has been heartbreaking, unacceptable, and frankly, jarring. We trusted Puppy's Playpen to treat and make our beloved dog look great, and they completely failed--not just in their work, but in their basic duties of care and decency. The employees were amazing and very helpful with calming down my dog Tulip before her first-ever grooming. They did an amazing job with her haircut, but did not get Tulip's nails short enough, which is not a huge problem since she is no longer scratching up the floors at home. On top of that, they did a great job removing most of the dye my niece got on my dog a couple of weeks ago. read more

Best Doggy daycare spot in KC! I've been to 4-5 spots and I can say the staff are welcoming and our dog loves playing there.

We've been taking our dogs to Puppy's Playpen for doggy daycare for years! There's nothing like getting your normally never-ending-energy pup back from a day with their friends and having them CRASH for the next two days because of all the fun they had! We found PPP (our abbreviation for it) from a friend who lived down the street nearly 20 years ago. We started going there out of convenience to how close it was to our house, and how effectively worn-our our pups were when they came home, but we've stuck around for the decades due to the incredible and kind people working there, and the PUPPY CAMS! You read that correctly - there are puppy cams! Days when our dogs are there, I'm sure I watch my dogs on the cams from work for no less than two hours (sorry, employer). What we've most recently found out and what actually generated my thought to take action on Yelp is that PPP's grooming is SECOND. TO. NONE. Oh my gosh! So pretty! So fluffy! So fresh smelling! So soft! So well-trimmed! I swear, it's like getting a completely brand-new dogs back! We had been taking our dogs to another facility where WE washed and blow-dried them for many years, for about half the price we spend on grooming at PPP. Ever since trying out the grooming at PPP, we haven't gone back to doing it ourselves. Not even once. It's worth the money - trust me! PPP gets the dogs so deeply clean, I swear it lasts weeks longer than when we do it. The last thing I'll mention (again) is that the folks here are incredible folks. To most of us, our furry kids are just that - OUR KIDS...and they mean that much to us. Knowing you can trust someone to take great care of them all day, or for many days, means the world. Case in point: we moved out of close proximity to PPP a few years ago, and probably at least five years went by between interactions with them. When we called for our first grooming for our older pup who used to spend time there a while back, the gal immediately remembered our dog and our family! Super impressed! read more

Our husky sheds like CRAZY in the spring and summer. She got a bath and de-shedding treatment last week and the shedding has stopped! (Other places we've gone were not as thorough as Puppy's Playpen; she was shedding again within 48 hours.) She left there happy and clean, and I'm thrilled I don't have to sweep and vacuum twice a day we'll definitely be returning! read more

Our new grooming spot since our other one closed. We've only been twice but my dog seems happy when he leaves and doesn't hesitate to go which is very telling to me. Not only is the staff amazing and they take great care of all the dogs. They always make sure that it's clean. Which i can imagine is a hard feat among all those dogs. They also pay attention to each one. When I pick up my dog I'll be told if he did good or if they are worried about something. I've been taking my wheaten terrier, Hunter, to Puppy's Playpen since he was 4 months old. He looks forward to it every day that we go and crashes every evening when we come home. There are certain places you go where you can feel it is all business and about the money. This is NOT one of those places. You can tell they truly care for every fur ball that comes through that door. They always greet us with a smile and call Hunter by name. Recently we were at the Leawood dog park and we ran into one of the employees, Paul, that works there. He was there with his wonderful dog and he had also brought with him an abandoned one. From talking to him, you could get the sense of how much he cared for these animals. Taking time on his day off to bring one, without a home, to the park to play and get some fresh air means a lot. This is what you want to find in a puppy daycare. You want to be able to trust that they care for your fury loved one as much as you do and this place definitely does. read more

This place is great! Clean, unpretentious, and gets the job done. The grooming prices are reasonable and the price for keeping your dog for up to 12 hours can't be beat. The employees are nice and my 2 1/2 year old mini schnauzer mix is so excited to go in. The employees always compliment him even though I know he can be a handful. I love the web cams and obsessively check them while I'm at work. The employees never mention that Max spends most of his time chasing the big dogs and trying to hump them. He must think he has the coolest mom ever because I pay to let him stay in a room where he has his pick of dogs to violate. But don't be scared future customers--Max is fixed. If you have a female dog you have even less to worry about. This little guy goes for strapping manly dogs. I love that my energetic little guy is completely worn out (hhmmm I wonder why) by the time I get him home... read more

Well....it's been over 6 months since my last review; time for more feedback! I have consistently taken my Westie, Mia, to Puppy's Playpen for daycare and/or boarding every week. Generally speaking, Westie's have a TON of energy. If I miss out on one week, she is not a happy camper. She enjoys the social aspect, as well as the fact that she is completely exhausted by the time she returns home. I get such a kick out of the excitement she displays when I announce "are you ready to go play????". If I veer anywhere away from the door, she tries to stop me. Too funny! In all honesty, Puppy's Playpen has been AMAZING! They take great pride in caring for each and every dog that visits. Additionally, they have also recognized in the past when Mia wasn't feeling too well. I took her to the vet and BOOM....indeed...she was under the weather. If they weren't paying such close attention to the dogs, they wouldn't have recognized this in advance. Much appreciated! I would like to think I am a caring mom for my "fur baby", which means I am constantly talking about her to others. Almost daily, I bring up Puppy's Playpen and how they are the best place EVER! The staff, the care and the facility in general is what keeps me coming back. The fact that Mia wouldn't allow me to take her anywhere else is also a driving factor too. :) read more

I have been taking my pup for about 6 months, started with his first groom! He absolutely loves going, whether for a groom or daycare or both. They address him by name when we enter, which I am amazed they remember so many pups names. The staff is so pleasant and they just love their jobs, you can tell. We will be travelling this summer and I will need to board him, there is no other place I would look. They have someone over night and cameras in each room so I will feel safe in leaving him. I can't say enough good things about this place. We absolutely love it! The main reason we first tried Puppy's Playpen is that they have someone on-site 24/7. For me, that is sooo important. There are lots of other things I like about this place which are: - Free roam for dogs! The dogs are divided up into rooms depending on their size and energy levels, and they aren't stuck in crates all day. There are also plenty of beds and couches for them to nap on. -Indoor and outdoor playtime! -No 'upgrades' necessary! At some boarding places, for the best treatments (a bigger room, a better bed, extra toys, etc), you have to pay extra and upgrade, but here they give all the dogs the best treatment, without charging extra! -The staff is great! They are all very informative and helpful. And they're great with dogs. My dogs only stay when we go on trips, which isn't very often, but they still recognize and know my dogs by name every time they come in! -They have cameras in every room and outside so you can check on your dogs while they're there! The prices here are a little higher ($30 per night for dogs under 20 lbs) but I love my dog, and to me, it's practical cost, paying to have someone there the extra hours, and it's totally worth it! read more

I never see my dogs more excited than when I take them to Puppy's Playpen. This is their opportunity to socialize with other dogs throughout the day (and be nice and worn out for me when I pick them up). The staff there is always so nice and I love being able to watch everything that's going on through the Web site's puppycam (Warning - this can be addictive and result in you not accomplishing anything at work). Took my 5 month old puppy to Puppy's Playpen for the first time today. The staff was extremely friendly & excited to have our Sherman. When picking him up, he seemed very happy and the staff was able to give me a great report. I only gave it 4 stars because the cameras used did not seem very clear on my computer screen to view his room and 2) he was in the petite dog room & there seemed to a lot of dogs (our dog didn't seem to mind it just seemed so crowded. I felt sorry for the staff). I definitely will be using them often and the staff definitely deserve tips especially since the price is so reasonable. read more

My Woody loves Puppy's Playpen. It is where we go for boarding, grooming, pet food products and day care. The staff is kind, gentle, caring and knowledgeable. Despite his large size (140lbs) Woody is grouped with the medium sized dogs because he is relatively low energy. The dogs are never crated and get plenty of exercise. In the summer, the dogs can play in a doggie pool, which Woody loves. I highly recommend! read more

After becoming a single Mom, Mawell is 10 months and I adopted him in August, I was faced with the task of leaving him home on the few days I am gone ALL day, or finding an affordable, doggy daycare where he could socialize and not eat my shoes. Puppys Playpen is in a great location for me, and I loved their rates. I went in and it seemed like a great place. You can watch the dogs on a web-cam(I didn't think I would do it, but yes, it is fun to watch), and there is alot of room to run around and play as well as areas for "nap time". They wanted Maxwell to come for a trial day, to make sure he "plays well with others." I thought this was really important to ensure that it is a good enviroment for him, as well as all of the other dogs that have already been going there. He was the new kid and I felt like a Mom taking her firstborn to the first day of kindergarten--i know, super lame, but what can I say??? It is a great place, and although I have not taken advantage yet, they offer overnight boarding and grooming too. read more

My mini schnauzer Henry is always excited to arrive at Puppy's Playpen and always happy when I pick him up. He gets to play under the hose in the summer (I gave permission), and there's always someplace clean and soft for him to curl up for a nap. Once, when Henry slipped out of my place, he made straight for Puppy's Playpen. There's no question he likes it there. Henry gets a LOT of love, and I'm always told if something subtle changes, like when his belly seemed just a little tender. I have relied heavily on Puppy's Playpen to care for Henry for stretches of time when I would otherwise have placed him three hours away with family. Puppy's Playpen has become Henry's second family, and I'm sad to separate them now that Henry and I are moving away. I recommend Puppy's Playpen without reservation. read more

We are EXTREMELY happy with Puppy's Playpen. Jack loves it there! He's very excited when we ask him if he wants to go and when my husband pulls up he can barely contain our dog from plowing through the door...not that he could, he's a shitzu! Anyway, we are happy with the grooming and he's been well protected and cared for. The cost is totally reasonable and competitive. The employee's are ALWAYS thoughtful and positive and don't consider us an interruption when we stop in for pickup/dropoff. Jack has never come home dirty or with poo or pee on him. We use to have Jack at Kennel Creek and their staff always treated us poorly. Their groomer never followed instructions. He was covered in poo often. Please understand this review is based on visiting, NOT using the service. So disregard if you wish. This is a review of concept. Proceed with that caveat. I feel this kind of boarding is all that and a bag of chips for some, for others, like me, a no-go from the start. PP's kennel is an open borders kind of place, which is to say, dogs are grouped by size (and temperament) and then allocated to a room to roam, sleep, and eat. They are taken out to a concrete potty area, which has some grass patches and pools (summer). It did not look great to me. This entire concept might work for sociable dogs, but for others, quiet, say, or less than social (canine introverts!), it's not going to work. To my eyes, the place looked a little run down for my taste -- and my dog's needs. The service staff seemed all very capable and were more than willing to give me the spiel. Just not for me, or my dogs. At a local dog park I mentioned visiting, a few of the doggie parents rolled their eyes, a few said they loved the place. It's all about what you are looking for to house, groom and care for your furry friends. I went looking elsewhere. C'est la vie. read more

I thought this would be a good place to let my 9 month old shepherd stretch her legs and be around other dogs. She is well behaved, rambunctious, and loves people. Day one went fine, of course she was a little apprehensive about the other dogs, she just needs to get acclimated. I spoke to the kennel attendant and he seemed sure that she was starting to warm to the idea of lots of dogs around. he commented later in the day she began to interact with the other dogs. Ok, Lets buy a package, So I did. Day two came and about and I get a call from the staff.. I'm thinking she was hurt or something had happened. Nope, she was fine. but I was informed that my dog was not a good fit for the facility. OK, did she bite someone or another dog? Nope. Did she do anything besides be a dog? Nope. Apparently, The staff was not interested in doing the job I payed them to do. Watch the dog. Not really that hard, just watch the dog. It seems that the place is over crowded, understaffed and if anything arises that might require a little effort on the part of the staff, they punt. Nice place you got here. I've been taking my dog Scout to Puppy's on a regular basis for a few months now. Scout (mini aussie with lots of energy) LOVES it and so do I. The staff is welcoming and genuinely cares about the pups. Scout gets lots of TLC and enjoys interacting with other dogs all day. He is always pooped after a day at Puppy's. We drop her off in the am, and the groomers are willing to keep her until we are done with work. I've been to other grooming services where you have to pick them up ASAP. I'm writing this for my parents, who recently used the boarding services here. When they picked up the dog, the lady said "we think something may have scratched his eye, as he's kind of twitching it." Well, the entire eye was swollen shut and according to the vet the cornea was scratched and infected. Also, he was dropped off while wearing a bandana, which was gone at pickup. When asked about that, they were told "we don't know what happened to it. Maybe another dog bit it off and we had to throw it away, but I'm not sure." So, even with all their cameras they had no clue what happened, and didn't realize the extent of the eye injury. I wouldn't trust them with a dog again. read more

This place is perfect for my dog. He is very active and really needs to have the opportunity to use up all that extra energy he has! The staff have treated us so well. If I can't pick him up until later at night, they will feed him for me. If I have any questions at all, they are always so willing to help. In fact, they helped me pick out the perfect dog food for him. I have seen a dramatic difference in his health because of the food they recommended. He has gotten a few small scratches while being there, but I think that will happen at any place where you have a bunch of dogs playing together. When he has gotten a scratch, I have gotten a phone call explaining what has happened. Overall, I am very satisfied with Puppy's Playpen. They are courteous people with whom I trust my dogs health and happiness on a regular basis! read more

I truly wish I could give this place 100 stars. You know how they say trust your dog if they don't like someone, you probably shouldn't. Well I also believe in trusting that of those he enter acts with. I have taken him to other groomers before, and when I hand him over to the groomer at those other shops he would begin to bark or shiver. When I take him to puppies playpen he is incredibly calm. It's like he knows that this place is a good place and never fights me when I drop him off to get groomed. When I pick him up he just seems so calm & happy, not to mention his coat has never been softer than before taking him here. Today was Toby's first day and he is completely played out!! when I dropped him off this morning, I did feel like I was taking my child to kindergarten. Puppy's Playpen is a wonderful place to take your pet! The staff is always so nice and you can just tell that they care about all the doggies that walk thru their door. My 12 yr old beagle has been going there for the past 2 years and he absolutely loves it. And my other little baby, that doesn't normally enjoy going to doggie daycare, likes it because her tail is wagging when we get to the front door! It's awesome that the pups get to roam around and play with each other or just choose to lay on the couch. I also love the fact that someone is there 24 hours if you choose to board your pet.
