After my last time at this gelato shop, it's always been on my mind whenever I felt like grabbing icecream or gelato. Since the weather really cooled down. When I went on a Friday evening, they only had 2 other parties there when I walked in. Their display case was filled with gelato in different flavours and everything looks very delicious! Last time I had their pistachio yogurt gelato which was very delicious. Instead of order the same thing, I thought I'd give another flavour a try. Went here last night for my favourite gelato in the city. I will start with I've tried a couple of places and this is still my favorite because it reminds me of gelato in Italy, HOWEVER I still haven't tried many other places to say it's the best in the city. Still the best pistachio gelato in town. Can't resist its signature roasted pistachio flavour and its gorgeously rich (and natural) green colour is a nice bonus! I didn't mention this in my previous review but they also sell pints of SUGAR FREE gelato in a variety of flavours like pistachio, hazelnut, chocolate, etc!!! YAY!!! And they also now sell TWO different types of sugar free pistachio gelato!!! Double YAY!!! They have Pistachio, which is their signature roasted pistachio gelato and more recently, Pistachio Sud, a southern pistachio. Punto is known for their pistachio, which is great, but their fruit flavours are even better in my opinion (bring back roasted pineapple!). This place has a good variety of flavors for ice cream. They have the more classic options as well as more unique ones, like black sesame or spicy pineapple or spicy chocolate. We tried coconut, which was delicious with tiny pieces of coconut flesh in it, passion fruit was on point, with the right amount of sourness, almond was great with tiny pieces of crushed almonds and also fig with the actual crunch that you get from the tiny grains in the fruit. I was not expecting the ice cream to be that good. They got the best gelato award back in 2019 which they advertise proudly. The size of ice cream you get dictates how many flavors you're allowed to pick. They have a patio outside for you to enjoy your ice cream. We got our ice cream about 5 limites before they were closing and we were not the only customers but the guy serving us seemed impatient and not as friendly as you would expect someone working in customer service. I am this weakness for anything that is Italian... - cars - shoes/handbags - pasta and of course Gelato! Just loves these independent cafe/dessert shops which offers so much more than those franchised ones! Since all the gelato here are given an Italian name and even if you know Italian you would not have guess what ingredients MARIA is made from!! Yes the Gelato here is tasted great! I find they tasted quite rich, smooth and with a lot of flavours. Love the stand up coffee bar at the counter, remind me of those Italian cafes I been to in Italy. And of course the friendly and loud waitstaffs and patrons speaking in Italian does reinforce that feel. The shop and gelato display is attractive but the customer service is lacking in warmth. The owner (I think) corrects a customer's pronunciation of the a flavour in Italian almost with scorn. All the flavours are in Italian, how would you not ask what they are? If he expects his customers to know Italian then he's in the wrong neighbourhood. $5 for a small scoop in either cone or cup. The best gelato ever! I've been so addicted to this place that it's almost embarrassing. I've brought my friends and family here and now they're addicted too. I've had gelato at other places and always felt that it was just good ice cream. After coming here I learned what gelato really is. Yes, there is a difference between gelato and ice cream! Gelato Simply Italian is a modern and sleek place and fills up fast during the evenings. The staff is super friendly, efficient and helpful when it comes to helping you pick out gelato. They have a ton of unique flavors and they do have a nice selection of sorbet. The gelato here is very flavorful, light and not too sweet. My favorites have to be prickly pear, carmelo, tiramisu, chili chocolate, Italian wine, macedonia, frozen yogurt and so much more. You can get a cone or cup. Sizes are small (two scoops- $3.50), medium (three scoops $5) and large (four scoops- $6). The portions are good, nothing too generous though. Besides gelato, they have a coffee bar. I like their coffee here, very strong and gets me through the day. They also have crepes (sweet & savory), Italian desserts, a fridge with cannoli's and other sweet goodies. I love their coffee granita (semi-frozen strong coffee). Ask for the granita 'Roman style' you won't be disappointed! The only thing I don't like is that some of the stuff here is pricey and the portions of the gelato can be inconsistent at times depending on who is serving that day. Overall this place is excellent if you're looking for an authentic gelato experience, lunch or bringing a coffee date. Highly recommended! read more

When I saw this place, I thought....really?!?! midtown needs another gelato spot like I need a hole in my head. Then I stepped in and then I tried their gelato. As far as I am concerned, all other gelato joints on Mt Pleasant and Bayview can close down and hang their heads in shame. This store, ladies and gentlemen, is what gelato is meant to be. You really feel like you are stepping off the street in Toronto and into viva Italia! During my visit I heard the owner talking over skype in Italian, Italian music was playing, some Italian import goods were available and all the flavours were written in Italian. The owner is great. Ask him for his favourites, like I did, and you will not be disappointed. Each gelato I tried had fabulously smooth texture, rich flavour and no hit of fake flavouring or after taste. I was so thrilled when these italian guys opened up a place at yonge/eg (on yonge a few blocks south of eglinton). there's another gelato place just north of eglinton on yonge, and its not good at all. but the gelato at gelato simply italian ROCKS - it's creamy and enough flavor! a whole variety of flavors plus other yummy treats. good place to hang out on a lazy evening - they're open pretty late so that's a plus. the guys behind the counter are friendly and chatty. a regular gelato cup is $4-5 - one scoop.....yes a bit pricey but its worth it. plus it stays fresh in the freezer for a month, i've saved my gelato scoop (wrapped in freezer press and seal wrap), and it tasted same as the day i got it. they also sell tubs of gelato. haven't tried anything else besides the gelatos - but can't wait to cos i'll be going back - this is going to be my fave summer spot! around $8 per person depending on what size, plus coffee/tea must try: pistachio gelato :) read more

The Gelato is good. They have a good selection. They rotate flavours. It is in the neighbourhood. Outdoor seating - great on balmy nights. Their customer service - Mama Mia! So bad! (Apologies for the bad humour). Their prices went up this summer. $5 for a small - a tad expensive. You can get two flavours though. I have learnt to ignore most of their servers (Btw - There is a high turnover). The names of flavours are all in Italian. I do not mind learning Italian, I would just like to be able to ask what it means without having my head bitten off! Without the attitude, it would be charming. I understand the No-Taste or I-Will-Charge policy. Nothing in life is free. And someone once explained that some flavours are very expensive to make so they do not let you taste those. NEW GELATO PLACE!!!! SO excited for this because I don't really have an icecream place in my work area besides Mt Pleasant but that is kinda far to walk. This lovely man just opened up his store and it's so inviting. He is one of the most friendly store owners I've met in awhile. Right now he just has gelato but he will soon expand to lunch menus as well. The place is decorating really nicely and open window concept - so in the summer whole entire place has the summer air rolling through. What can you say bad about Gelato? I'm slowly trying all the flavors and all of them have been delish so far. A small cup is $3.99 and you get 2 flavors. Check it out!! UPDATE: Have now tried their cappuccinos which are great for an afternoon patio break. Most of the flavours you can't go wrong except maybe the Mojito? Kinda put me off. Stingiest place ever. This gelato is not cheap. If you ask to weigh the bigger portions (which have a preset weight for price) they will add gelato in mini increments to avoid at all cost to go even just 1 g over, all while it melts away because that takes longer. Gelato colors not neon, check. 2 flavors allowed per smallest size cup, check. Lots of non-dairy options (they have a chocolate sorbet!!!), check. Pretty solid gelato establishment in Davisville and the neighbors seem to agree as it was sooo packed this lovely Sunday evening. But cons include only 2 samples per person, not enough seating due to so many customers (although on a colder day I imagine this would not be a problem at all since the place is quite large), and the sorbets being way too sweet and artificial tasting. Unfortunately I forgot my Lactaid tonight, so had to stick to dairy-free options, which here were all fruit except for the single dairy-free chocolate option. I wish they had pistachio flavored sorbet too (go to G for Gelato for that!). The watermelon and kiwi sorbets were great - actually tasted like the fruits. But my Macedonia (blend of different fruits) and guava flavors were sadly way too sugary and did not resemble any fruit. I highly discourage all from getting the guava flavor in particular - it just tastes like sugar. read more

We just moved into the neighbourhood and went here after a nice pizza dinner. I was trying out the flavours and the owner very rudely pointed out the sampling rule that they apparently had posted on the door. That was my very first visit to the store, and I usually look forward to the food in a place than to randomly ready signs posted. The guy serving us probably was offered either this job or an anal-thermometer quality control check guy so get it...not exactly dream job but if you're not going to even want to answer questions as simple as "what is your favorite flavor," than perhaps having something up your a** would fit you better (personality and other ways...) It's also expensive for what you get - $5 for a small cup. Is the gelato even worth it? IMO, not really...with a dime a dozen places selling gelato, this place can't claim to be the best. How can you even tell one gelato place from another? Not sure, but my Stracciatella was meh. And the sign saying that they will charge $1 for sampling, if you don't end up buying is douch-y beyond compare. Some gelato/ice cream places will have staff initiate you to try. Here? When the Moon hits your eyes like a big Pizza Pie, that's amore. In this case, it was the Gelato fridge's gentle light shining up at the heavenly Italian Gelato Girl. The same light didn't work out for those Gelato Men as they looked like Devils behind the Angel. It was interesting that at this late hour we still saw the open kitchen where the Men were still working on their concoctions. (+0.5 *Star*) Also it was so distinctively Italian not just from the decor but also from the mid-age Men that worked there and the Italian fashioned Gentlemen that came in. Much like La Paloma, there was a stand-up fridge that showcase some Dessert Cold Cannolis and Gelato Truffles. I would say 80% of the Gelato names are Italian so you might need assistance from either the Devils or the Angel. We got Cioccolato(Chocolate) was rich, Ananas(Pineapple) was light with small pieces, and Maria(Nuts & Cinnamon) was full of Nut slices and slight flavour of Cinnamon. Out of the bunch, Ananas was my least favourite but overall it was nice. Rating Gelato places really depend on Service, Space, Selection and this one did well on all aspects. I felt with all the Coffee items showcased that it was more of a Cafe than Gelateria and Cafes are pretty much like home to me. read more

I've been meaning to write this review for a while. I have been there so many times and am totally addicted. Although I live in a neighbourhood near three other gelato places (one on Mount Pleasant and two on Bayview), Gelato Simply Italian is the only one I've visited since it opened. Every time I go, there is something new. Sometimes some of the flavours are extremely unusual. Yesterday, it was balsamic-beet. I passed on that one. If you want to be adventurous with your selection without being THAT adventurous, try the chocolate chili pepper. It's awesome. I also particularly enjoy the dark chocolate orange, ameretto, tartuffo, black licorice, banana, white chocolate coconut, and Zuppa Inglese (English trifle with sponge cake soaked in liquor). All of the flavours are labelled in Italian, so you will not always know what's what, but part of the fun is guessing, and of course the staff will always help you out. read more

This is a fantastic gelato joint. They have around 50 different flavours and some of them are really amazing. The down side is that they don't let you sample their premium flavours so it can be a bit of a hit or miss. I noticed, right off the bat, their pistachio is not fluorescent green and has a nice mellow and natural taste. The pomegranate was again natural tasting and it had captured a good balance between sweet and tard. These are the two flavours that won me over. As an Iranian, I know my pistachios and pomegranates and I am very partial towards those who show proper respect to these ingredients. As for the other flavours, the coconut was light, refreshing and definitely one of my favourites. Dark chocolate with chilies is an interesting one. The crema (custard) is wonderfully rich and creamy. You can't leave this place without trying a cannolo. The velvety filling and dark chocolate outer coating is a unique take on the cannoli. I was also very impressed by the quality of their espresso. So be sure to pick up an americano or espresso granita when you visit. read more

Wow! I've found my new fave gelato spot in Toronto. I used to love Hollywood Gelato (still very good value) and Ed's Scoop (best waffle cones). Also enjoy La Poloma and Il Gelatiere. But Gelato Simply Italian has my heart...for now. The owners are very kind and friendly. They actualy wanted my feedback on the flavours I tried and asked me what I thought about other flavour ideas. The store itself is elegant and clean with lots of room. What I like about this place is the gelato is not as weet as Hollywood and the selection is better than Ed's. I poked my head in to see what had replaced Sassy Bead at this address, and I was glad to find something else I love as much as beads. ;) The store is clean and crisp-looking, with black and white fixtures and big windows. A small cone or cup with two flavours will set you back just under four bucks, which makes it cheaper than some of the other gelato places in the Eg, Dave, Yonge and Bayv square. My first two flavours: tiramisu, which tasted like the real thing; and 'Jul', which was a strange but addictive blend of sour cherries, almond slivers, and rice (not rice milk, as in dairy-free ice cream -- just bits of rice mixed in). I'll definitely be going back, instead of making the trek over to Bayview. Maybe I should get a couple of trays since my family's in town for my wedding. I didn't count the number of flavours they had, but there were definitely more than 20. The flavours came in a wide variety, from pistachio to Nutella. They had a gigantic mural depicting the breadth of flavours that they've had at the store, so I'm guessing that they rotate their flavours frequently. I visited upon a friend's recommendation on a warm summer afternoon, and it was packed. Gelato can be purchased in small, medium, and large size cups, priced at $5.00, $6.50, and $7.50 respectively. As for variety, small comes with up to 2 flavours, medium comes with up to 3, and large comes with up to 4. You also have the option of getting your gelato in a cone. If it's your first time at the store, be sure to utilize your two free samples to ensure you're satisfied with your purchase (but let's be honest, you'd have to be insatiable not to). Beware though, if you take a free sample without a subsequent purchase, they cost $1.00 each. Simple Italian has a small Yonge Street-facing patio which we were able to get a seat on. All in all, my first experience at Simply Italian was quite enjoyable, and I'll be eager to return whenever I'm in the area. Tip: There's a side street right beside Simply Italian where you can enjoy free parking during most normal hours. Heading southbound, make a right after you pass Simply Italian (right after Jaipur Grille) and park on the street along the bridge. Hope this saves you a couple bucks! read more
