Bold flavor in a shy hidden spot. Very cool little shop. Sushi is what they're most well known for and it did look pretty insane. But their other asian fusion dishes are awesome too. The tandoori wings were a bit dry but are super flavorful and the creamy sauce provided pairs quite nicely. The Bangkok beef is so rich and complex, I couldn't get enough and they do give you a generous portion size!

This is a disappointing review to write, seeing as though I was a fan of Silo.* But this was not good. At all. I took photographic evidence to go along with my review so as to back up my words. Not good. At all. The really unfortunate problematic name of the restaurant should have been enough to out me off from visiting. As it was, I was an early visitor to the spot. I was excited from the Silo connection. But some things should probably stay in the past. Since we were freshly into the 're-opening' period (and because we live in TN), I ordered my food to go. PW is in a small space. I mention that for two reasons: 1.) it's impossible not to notice when someone comes and goes. 2.) people are sort of a$$-to-elbow. I wasn't greeted by a single person when I walked in. No 'hello.' Not even a head nod. I just stood there looking/feeling awkward. And no one (staff/patron) was masked or distanced. This may be a joke here but, you know, pandemic. Death. Lifelong illness. I finally waved someone down and made my way to grab my food at the bar and check out. That experience was perfunctory. No Southern small talk. Just 'here's your food. Pay... and tip.' Fun. I noticed that I paid more than was advertised online but I figured that was due to me getting more food. Each of my dishes came in oversized takeout boxes. I was very wrong. My karaage was a small amount of greasy popcorn chicken. That's a little gracious. I had more than one 'breading bite' -- meaning there wasn't even chicken in the greaseball. No wonderfully crunchy Japanese chicken wings was I to taste. I received a pitiful amount of sloppy chicken bits. Picture uploaded. I'm not lying. My waffle fries** were cold, stuck together and (you guessed it) few in number. But for feeling guilty about throwing away food, I would have tossed it out. Instead I took pictures and vowed to never return. It was right there in the name. I knew better. To end on a good note, I will say that Sylvan Supply is gorgeous. Sylvan Heights may be a made-up thing but it shoor is purty. Nicely done, developers. *For the n00bs, Silo was a Germantown staple that helped put Nashville's food scene on the map in the heyday of the current population/tourism boom. ** The reason this is a '2' and not a '1.' Ordering this was my fault... although a restaurant shouldn't have an item on the menu that it doesn't execute well.

    Cumin Lamb...delicious
    Bryan H.

I didn't get any sushi so I can't comment. I got the House Special Cumin Lamb and it was delicious. Seemed clean, music was just fine. I had a hard time finding it at first as I went to the front and had to go up the stairs and back down to the backside. Service was fine (I was the only one there early and they only stopped once for a drink refill...had to ask for the check as I was waiting). Seemed like cost was a little high on some items I know are cheaper elsewhere. I didn't get it but $12 for 4 dumplings? Even if they are handmade I didn't get it because of the cost. I am sure the rent there isn't cheap so its reflected in the food prices.

Was joined by my Yelper friend for a happy hour at Punk Wok and it lived up to my high expectations. During happy hour, sushi is half off, so we indulged in 2 rolls. My favorite was the Peruvian roll, topped with a shrimp ceviche and garlic drizzle. It was a tantalizing mix of textures and flavors and unlike other sushi rolls I've tried before. The garlic drizzle stirred up a craving in me for Peruvian chicken... perhaps more to come on that note. Of course, as a fermented vegetable fan girl, I suggested we try the pickled vegetables. The cucumber pickles were the best, but the kimchi could stand on its own. Happy hour gets crowded from 6-7, but when we were seated at 5 there was ample bar seating. The atmosphere was lively without being too loud or crowded and the staff was friendly. I'm definitely adding Punk Wok to my list of favorite happy hour specials!

    Sushi happy hour

I got in here for a late lunch and ordered one of the specials of the day. Wish I had known about sushi happy hour, as I would have definitely taken advantage. I put it on my notepad for a revisit during sushi happy hour. I have both in this review. Nice little spot in Sylvan Supply. Medium sized bar with quite a few tables around the side and in the back. I ordered to go to take into Bearded Iris (Black Dynasty was not serving yet). While waiting, the sushi chef pulled out a big slab of fresh tuna to prep. After we talked sushi for a bit, the chef handed me some of the fresh tuna to try. Top knotch. The food did not disappoint that day and I would have given a 4 star rating. Yay! Fast forward a few weeks and sushi happy hour. This is no sushi train or supermarket, but the fish did not bowl me over. I would say more in the 2-3 star rating. I will give the pricing during sushi happy hour a bump (half price on all but three items) and the service was still very good, but the sushi was more on the marginal side that day. I would still say you should try it out and see, as I might just have hit a happy hour faux pas, but I was looking at my plate (picture) saying "did I really order that much?" rather than "so happy I came back". So I am stuck in average territory. Overal, not bad for a landlocked city. If I could repeat the first experience, even more power. I will redo the review if I find I just hit a bad day. Not that average is bad, but people often regard a 3-star review as bad. It's not. Just more OK than great or my favorite. So, the big question is "will I return?" As one who always likes to give a fair shake to restaurants, I will definitely consider a return visit. I really love the atmosphere, presentation of the food, et al, but I will order less up front and add on rather than pile in.

There is a reason they don't put the prices on their website...$17 for a standard six piece spicy tuna roll is CRAZY! They have a happy hour from 3-6 for half off sushi but even $8.50 for that roll is slightly over the market price. But, the sushi and appetizers were good, so I'd recommend happy hour as a date spot.

Great place for large groups. Try the russian roulette game with friends. Wont disappoint and someone would get the lucky roll with wasabi!

Thai fried rice and cumin lamb noodles
    Kelly L.

To be honest, this is a very average Asian fusion with an incredibly high price point for ambiance. My friend and I were a walk in for dinner, got seated right away. Service was nice and attentive. But the food... the bulgogi fries were probably the best thing we got, but even then, this is not bulgogi. This is like ground beef seasoned with bulgogi sauce and poured over fries. The Thai fried rice has okay flavor but wish it had the Thai kick to it. The cumin lamb noodles were sad. Almost no sauce and no spice, the noodles were dry and limp. Ended up taking it home and adding a bunch of sauce and chili oil to it to revive it. Not a place I'll come back to but I guess and experience nonetheless. At least the kirin was good with the fries!

Chef's choice (blue plate special) bento with sesame chicken. So tasty and the perfect amount of food for lunch!

A delightful & fun Asian-influenced menu with a really chill & laid back vibe. I've come here a couple of times for a late & leisurely lunch on afternoons I've had off and had a super relaxed and tasty meal both times. Lots of seating at the bar, which is ideal if you are flying solo for your meal like I was and still want quick & efficient service. For lunch, there's a small standard menu of items (all reasonably priced from $13-19) and a chef's bento special which rotates a new chef's choice item every day with a few staple sides. My favorite thing both visits has been any wok-fried chicken stir fry the chef does. The marinades have been perfection and I love having something that is actually made to size for a lunch portion. The sichuan cold noodles (featuring their house made egg noodles with just a kick of spice) are another must order for me. Punk wok really nails interesting textures in their dishes, whether it be the chewy cold of the sichuan noodles or the crunch in the crispy Thai rice on the lemongrass chicken. Sushi is a bit pricier than your standard joint, but everything uses really high quality ingredients here (no imitation crab in sight) and happy hour (3-6 pm) features half priced sushi! Delightful service both times by two hipster ladies tending the bar; this will easily be a new lunch / happy hour favorite in a complex I already love.

Punk Wok is a cute spot in Sylvan Supply right across from Bearded Iris. They have indoor and outdoor seating in the cute little courtyard. The food here is amazing. The Sichuan street noodles is a must though! Everything was good but this was hands down my favorite thing on the menu that we tried. Also had the pork belly, fried cauliflower, and the blink182na sushi roll. Full bar serving cocktails, wine, and beer. I just went easy and tried the house red which was very nice. Make a reservation as it's busy and a small spot but lots of parking.

There was plenty of seating to grab a drink and hang out before being sat for dinner, and the bartender/server were very attentive. My partner and I arrived early, and we ordered a couple of cocktails from the bar. I ordered the Lost in Tokyo which was delicious, but I thought it was a little odd that it was served over ice for a drink with a coconut milk base. It watered down the cocktail too quickly. My partner got the Can't be Tamed, and it was the perfect spicy marg. Once we were sat the courses were incredible. The flavors were complimentary of each other in every bite, and there was not a single course I didn't like! The best bites were probably the fatty tuna and the surf-n-turf. The chefs were fun and chatty and kept the upbeat vibes going. I also thought the sake toast was a fun addition. This meal was paced perfectly, and I'd definitely come again when they are running another special.

We initially arrived at Noko and were graciously guided over to a somewhat hidden, speakeasy-style sliding barn door into the intimate bar at Kase x Noko. The transition alone felt like stepping into another world. Brooke took incredible care of us, helping us explore a few cocktails while we waited for our full group to arrive and truly, every drink was perfect. Standouts included the Princess Ichigo, Naked & Afraid, Komorebi, and a 2 oz pour of Hibiki Harmony Japanese whisky. My friend reserved a private dining experience for 14, and it couldn't have been more perfect with an intimate tabeled bar, two sushi chefs, and a front-row seat to artistry in motion. Course by course, we worked our way through what felt like a perfectly curated journey with each bite more impressive than the last. Fourteen rolls later, I was still in awe. Vinny, our server, brought such a fun energy to the night, he was engaging, attentive, and incredibly knowledgeable. He answered all of our questions with ease and elevated the entire experience. Standouts for me: the salmon caviar, yellowtail, red snapper, fatty tuna belly, and Japanese wagyu, although all were truly melt-in-your-mouth heavenly experiences! And ending with strawberry mochi was the most delicate finish. I also really enjoyed the pickled ginger bites between rolls as a palate cleanser. The aesthetic was stunning: warm, immersive, almost transportive. It felt like we had been carried somewhere far away, where every detail was intentional and every sense was engaged. An unforgettable night. I honestly went in a skeptic and unsure having never eaten raw fish, now I cannot wait to stay up til midnight and try to get a booking again soon!

The main difference I noticed compared to other omakase experiences was the nigiri preparation. The pieces here seemed to be pre-cut, whereas at other places I've usually seen the chef slice and prepare each piece in front of you, which adds more to the experience and presentation of the fish. This omakase also follows more of a set menu format, so it doesn't really change based on seasonality or fish availability. Overall, would recommend in the future if I'm in Nashville again.
