First time here and I enjoyed the antique decor. The bar tender was very friendly. We arrived before the kitchen was open but she asked what pizza we wanted and said oh I can start a deep dish for you! So it was really nice to get service before the kitchen was officially open. Arrived on a Monday evening and met a few friends for dinner. Decently busy and looked like live music was being setup. A couple of us ordered side salads for appetizers. We waited for our food for a long time and no salads brought out, so my friend asked for hers and it was then brought out. However, waitress didn't bring mine so I had to catch her again and ask for mine. The Italian dressing was good, herby and came with olives (which I would ask to omit next time). I ordered the shrimp scampi pasta. The toasted bread it came with was good but the pasta sauce was way too lemony. Not a pleasant experience. A friend ordered the wings extra crispy with secret sauce that is buffalo sauce and blue cheese. I got to try one and it's a good flavor combo and ordered some to go for my family. There aren't a ton of deep dish pizzas in Syracuse. You'll see it on some pizzeria menus, but most of them don't mean it. You're way more likely to find Detroit Style mascaraing as deep dish, and outside of Uno's, the only real alternatives I know about are only a few years old. I can be a pizza snob if I push myself and put my mind to it, but if we're being honest, I have no skin in the game when it comes to Chicago Deep Dish. It's a fun change of pace, but eating it makes me feel like I'm cheating on pizza. With all that said, Pump Pizza brings one very important thing to the table that allows me to throw all this aside: Seafood Scampi Deep Dish. I have a collector's mentality when it comes to ordering food, and I mostly only order things I haven't tried yet. It should speak volumes that we've ordered the seafood scampi pizza maybe a dozen times since this place opened. The crab and shrimp meat itself is small and inconsequential, but the taste is exactly as good as you want it to be. The full creamy, garlicky, buttery scampi experience in the form of a well-made, dense Chicago style pizza. It's a 12" pizza, but it feels like you're carrying out two large NY pies. We liken this to comfort and we order it every time we need a sure thing. The cup and char pizza was good, but not worth passing up on the scampi or getting a good NY style pizza somewhere else. I will say though, not a lot of places around here pull it off this well, with the emphasis on both the cup and the char. We thought it was cool they have duck wings. The flavor was awesome, but it all kind of fell short. 4 wings for 12 dollars and they weren't as satisfying as regular chicken wings. The chicken riggies were kind of a let down. Not very spicy, creamy or flavorful. When we ordered these, I was still trying to sell my girlfriend on riggies and these set me back a bit. These are just rigatoni with chicken and marinara. Not necessarily bad, but it hurts to order riggies from a place that you know puts out quality food and you get this instead. My second favorite thing after the scampi pizza is the Goomba Panini. Breaded cutlets, Utica greens, cherry peppers. The first two times we tried to order this they were out of something or unable to make it. It was definitely worth the wait though. Their Utica Greens are great, and solely responsible for this being the best sandwich on the menu. Get the Goomba. Still a lot I haven't tried, but the next time I come here I'll probably still get the Scampi pizza. I have a small list of comfort items around the city that I re-order routinely, and I treasure it greatly. I wasn't a fan of everything I got from here, but it's still an easy five stars between the atmosphere and the stuff they do well. read more

Monday night football! Time for pizza and wings! Wife had a craving for cupping pepperoni, so Pump Pizza it is! Our meal started with a Caesar salad. Crisp romaine, plenty of dressing, and fresh grated parm. We then had a few of the "secret sauce" wings. Large crispy wings, covered in what I assume is a combination of hot and other house sauces. They were very good. Lastly, was the 16" pizza pie. Cooked well with cupping pepperoni, fresh mushrooms, and 1/2 sausage (for me lol ). I enjoy a crumbled sausage topping, and it was tasty. I know my top 5 pizza place (Paladinos), is right across the street. But Pump makes a great pizza as well. Staff is super friendly. Dinners I've had here are outstanding too. So being from Chicago born and raised. I'm a deep dish pizza snob. Gino's East, Lou Malnati's, and Giordanos IYKYK!!! I have only been in Syracuse a few years and some spots have tried to perpetrate as deep dish and failed nothing with trying. I literally just tried it today 05/03/2024. My only real complaint about the pizza is that the toppings is on the top of the pizza. The dough, sauce, toppings, and cheese was on point. Definitely going back more often than a little. Owner Anthony Manicone, who took over the former Woody's Jerkwater Pub from previous owner Tommy Tanner in 2017, is doing more than changing the name. The whole concept is different, as Woodys was a more a neighborhood pub, while Pump Pizza will be focused on being a family friendly gastropub with pizza. The menu includes both New York-style and Chicago-style deep dish pizzas (something CNY is suddenly getting an influx of), plus specialty sandwiches, burgers, pastas, and entrees like Chicken or Veal Marsala or Francaise, Lasagna and Eggplant Parmesan. It features "cup and char" pepperoni and also offers "pub nubs," bits of dried dough with dessert toppings. After trying another local restaurant who are building their names on Chicago style pizza, I decided to give Pump a try after reading about them. We ordered a Carnivore deep dish pizza, 10 wings hot,, and I tried an ordered of their hand breaded chicken tenders. I placed my order at 3:45 PM and asked for a 5:15 pickup, on a Friday, and was told no problem. I walked in at exactly 5:15, and wasn't really sure where to go. There are basically two big rooms, the one you walk into, which also has the kitchen you can see into and some tables for seating, then another room with the bar and more seating. Nobody greeted me as I walked in and looked confusingly for where to go. I eventually just walked up to the bar and spoke to the woman behind the bar, who was the only person working other than the cooks. She asked my name and went back to ask the cooks if my food was ready. It wasn't. Though I called in my order an hour and a half before pick up, I watched as the bartender asked about my order several more times before I finally got my food, 45 minutes after I arrived. There were a couple tables sat, and the phone rang 2 or 3 times in the 45 minutes I was there, so they were not exactly busy. When the bartender came back after asking about my food the very first time, she asked me "do you remember exactly what you ordered?" I told her, and she ran to the back again. Pretty sure the kitchen simply lost my order and that's why I waited nearly another hour. After getting it home, the wife and I got right into it. For us, everything was just okay. The food wasn't bad at all, just felt it was a tad bland. I loved the little cup pepperoni, but the sauce was a little bland and scarce, and the crust didn't have much flavor. The wings I have no complaints about, they were decent. The chicken tenders were alright as well, but were breaded in simple bread crumbs, no home made secret recipe breading or anything. The tenders were large, but even with as big as they were, 3 for $9 felt a tad steep. Most of their prices are decent and comparable to other similar restaurants and dishes. Employees were nice to me while I was there. The place isn't huge, but it is nicely and modernly decorated. They definitely have some things to figure out. With the food being in the bland side and after the ridiculously long wait time and honestly feeling like my order was just forgotten about, I don't see us going back again. read more

What an amazing place! Talk about authentic deep dish pizza......this place is spot on!!!! I ordered the cup and char pepperoni and added mushrooms, my wife got a chicken , bacon, ranch in a deep dish.....and they were both just AMAZING!!!! The flavors were plentiful, amount of cheese was over the top, and the crust was sooooooo buttery, it just melted in your mouth! We also ordered wings wich came out juicy and crunchy!! The service was fantastic as there were only two on for the night, but they made the service, thank you!!!! At the end of our meal the owner came out Anthony, and we sat and talked about the restaurant and the places we have been for 15 minutes or so, again nothing but amazing food, and amazing people! I stopped at pump pizza at the recommendation of my fellow Yelpers. What a great find for Chicago style pizza. Upon entering the establishment, we were quickly greeted by a very friendly waitress, who told us to pick a table, which we did. We were then greeted by our fabulous waiter named Rob. Rob doted on us and made us feel very welcome. Rob was an attentive waiter yet not interfering. We ordered the Caesar salad and the vegetarian deep dish pizza. The Caesar salad was generously portioned and delicious. Our deep dish pizza was fabulous just like I've had in Chicago. The crust was perfectly browned and the toppings did not make the pizza soggy. The pizza had a wonderful flavor and we thoroughly enjoyed it. They have a nice draft beer list and the place has a really friendly vibe. My only complaint is that the side door is kept open a crack, because there are so many people in and out, I imagine for deliveries. This allows flies to get in and buzz around while you're trying to eat. The police could use a makeover (looking sort of medieval) and I hope the business is successful so they are able to achieve this. read more

I read a bunch of reviews and landed on the Scampi Deep Dish Pizza. It was a decent pizza, I am glad I tried it. I am a huge fan of crab and shrimp and this is the key components of this pizza. In other reviews they rave about the cream sauce which was pretty light on my pizza. The crabmeat is imitation if that bothers you, I don't mind it. I had it delivered and it came on time and still hot. They did not include napkins and our utensils so make sure to request these if you want them. I also tried a piece of the cheesecake which was solid. My total was $43.99 for a medium deep dish, piece of cheesecake and a 2 liter of pop delivered. You can feed 2 really hungry people or like 3 normal people from a medium. I liked the food and look forward eating there again. read more

Could be my favorite pizza in Syracuse. The Chicago Deep dish with pepperoni is amazing. It's thick and heavy with so much cheese and really fresh tasting sauce. The whole menu is actually really good. I've tried several options including the Hot Oil pasta. It's a nice neighborhood atmosphere with great staff. I had a conversation with one of the owners who was super friendly. It's in the old Kmart plaza near Mattydale/North Syracuse. I hope they can one day branch out into a more popular area so that more people find them and experience this good food! Plenty of parking and they have they have an outdoor seating area too. Sometimes you find a place so filled with love, that you are blown away. In search of late night eats, my daughter and I wandered in around 10pm and were soon eating some great Buffalo wings, mozzarella and one the best meatball appetizers we've ever had. The food and staff were so good that we returned the next night and tried an incredible Greek salad with homemade dressing and a delicious mushroom burger. What a feast!! Went to Pump Pizza for a family style dinner and got to try a lot of dishes from their menu and I was impressed by everything I ate here! First off, this was my first time trying a Chicago deep dish pizza and I was expecting a doughy/chewy and knife/fork kinda situation. But, it was completely opposite- the crust was buttery and the pizza could hold it's own. I tried their seafood scampi, carnivore and utica green pizza. My favorite was the seafood one- unique to me and the toppings were melt in your mouth. Some of the other dishes I tried- caprese salad, chicken riggies, meatballs, utica greens, garlic knots and Chicken Française. Everything was delicious and full of flavors. Loved the sauce on both Chicken Française and meatballs. I also got the spiced pear Moscow Mule which hit the spot- perfectly spiced with notes of gingery goodness.
