A favorite pizza joint for me and many folk. Some go for lunch, some grab slices after work or order a whole pie to take home with them. Slices at lunchtime are always fresh, and they usually have about five or six different options, besides standard cheese or pepperoni. One of my favorites is their garlic pizza. It's salty and tasty and garlicky without chunks of garlic or a heavy garlic sauce. Another favorite is their garlic knots. I could eat a dozen of those for lunch - but then I'd need a nap. They are just the right amount of buttery, and garlicky and crunchy and soft. Soda in bottles or from the fountain. Decent indoor seating if you're staying. read more

Slice quality has fallen off a cliff over the past 2 months. Slices are often soggy and floppy, and I've found that taste has also been inconsistent. Hard to go back for lunch when I'm constantly having to throw my slices in the trash read more

Greeted beautifully upon entering by who we call THE POLITE MAN...man serving us...very engaging, kind, super polite. (We stopped off the highway after reading some reviews.) Diner-like place in the city. Pizza was very good--(hidden very hot under the tomatoes and cheese!! Be careful.) I had a meatball/sausage combo and it was out of this world. Great NY style pizza. We were in town for medical and stayed in our room most of the time. They delivered to our hotel in about 45 min. Very suave, thick crust, fresh toppings. Very big pizza!! We would have ordered a smaller size if we could have. A lot was wasted. Cheese bread with sauce was worth it as well. read more

Nice sauce and solid quality cheese, the crust is chewy- a little thin to support the toppings. If you have that cheap home phone service that keeps advertising on TV, then make sure you don't miss any payments. This pizza place is named to remind you when to send your money to the phone company: "Payvonage Pizza." The guy told me the pizza didn't need warming, and it totally did. It was lukewarm. The Garlic Knot I bought was only 55 cents which is an amazing price. It tasted pretty good but it was already cold, too. If they didn't really make pizza at all, and were located in Philly, it would be PAphoney's Pizza. After Paladino's it's my fave pizza in SYR, but that's not saying much because I haven't tried that many. As I said with Nick's, bear in mind that I give a 5 star to anything that really does it for me. A 4 star is more "average" because I don't rate family businesses less than 3. So a 3-star family business is more like a "1 star" to you. And my 4 is more like your 3, maybe. With that in mind, the 4 star here means that Nick's is not my favourite. If it were Pacino's Pizza then Robert DeNiro would come here to eat just to remind himself what his biggest rival is up to. I liked it slightly better than nearby Nick's, and the selection was pretty good. The crust was a nice hard NY style base, and had a real crunch to it which I liked. Make sure you always insist that your slice is properly warmed, though. This pizza is verging on a 5, and it's great that the location is downtown, but I'm going to stick with a 4 just because overall I think it was a little bit too dry. And if it was Paterno's Pizza then lots of underage boys would end up scarred for life by eating it, so I just want to say, I'm glad it's not. read more

The highlight of a trip downtown is Pavone's Pizza sandwich. I've enjoyed them for years. I don't know what happened since I was there last, but they changed the way they make it and it wasn't good. No flavor, dry and meatballs? Now where near as good as they used to be. Their pizza wasn't anywhere near as good either. I have no idea what happened, but someone made changes and they weren't good. It was one of those, "if-I-don't-eat-pizza-right-now-everyone-will-rue-the-day," kind of evenings, so we speed walked over to Pavone's. While we waited for our slices, a lively conversation between the staff and a patron who ate his slice with the paper plate and pizza folded in half ensued. We quickly learned the fellow patron was originally from the Bronx. Then a friendly debate about which borough of NYC has the best pizza began. An answer to whether Pluto's status as a planet would be easier to come to than the great pizza debate of ever, and despite the entertainment value, we were fortunate our slices were ready before the discussion really got underway. The cheese slice was pretty much what you would expect. It had a thin crust and while I didn't think there was anything particularly outstanding about it, I would get it again because it felt like it had a sense of consistency backing it up. Now the mushroom slice was sooo good. So much so that I felt slight ordering remorse about the plain cheese. Would I get it again? UM, YES!!! In short, I'm overjoyed that I live a quick walk away from this establishment, and it's definitely going to me my go-to. read more

Wow this place brings back tons of memories of my early to mid 20's. Back in that day there was hardly any food to eat on Warren street. The glorious Sutherland days when hot food was essential to survive the harsh call center days. I still remember deciding with coworkers between Subway, The Bagel Shop(now closer), and here. So I can that I have had a lot of different foods here, but never once I have I loved anything I've gotten. It's not terrible or bad in anyway, but there are just a lot more other places I would go to for a good slice of pizza...or even a whole pie. Besides their pizza, I would also get their pasta dish with meatballs. That was pretty good, but again not outstanding. The service here was always meh at best, sometimes you would get a cool person, but most of the time they kinda seemed like they weren't feeling the place. When I came back here to try it out again, everything was exactly how I remembered. A decent place if your on Warren and don't have a lot of time, but not a recommendation from me. read more

Should be a 0 rating but Yelp won't let me. First no gloves were worn by anyone on 4/14/22 at 11:45am. While I'm waiting to cash out with 5 other people behind me now. They are arguing with each other who is going to make the salads, get the spaghetti or run the register. After 5min of no one still cashing me out I left the pizza on the counter and said I'm out. Butternut location - Our order was supposed to be delivered at 11:45-11:55am. Called at 12:05 pm they said the delivery driver just left, he would be here soon - their ovens turned off so they were a bit behind. No problem! 12:20 we call back. We were met with a very rude female stating delivery driver had other stops, he would be there soon. A male employee called us back shortly after saying the delivery driver is here but didn't have our number (they forgot to write it on his form). The delivery driver apologized and was very very nice. Their customer service sucks, the pizza was burnt and tough to bite. The wings were good and crispy. They forgot one of our pizzas too. The pizza is amazing - arguably better than Mario and Sakvo's. They used to work at Pavone's back in the day, I hear. I can't compare the pizza to that at the other Pavones in town, but I don't see how any of them could be better. Definitely consider ordering the extra large. It's a great value, and just freeze what you can't finish. It's almost as good as it tastes at the parlor. read more

What Pavoni is lacks in luster, excels at making pizza that is pretentious in its simplicity. They're not trying to make a killing at slices of pepperoni at 2 1/2 bucks each. There's a lot to love and get change back in your pocket. Make a memory and keep this local effort going strong. read more

This place has been around for years, you can tell by the outdated seating area. Also the place could use a paint job and some updated kitchen supplies. They don't even have a POS system, still writing it down and using an old cash register. The food is still good, I gave it 3 star rating because my crust was blackened on the bottom from either not using a screen when warming or over cooking it, not sure which was to blame. Went there during lunch and was surprised to see that there was an abundance of slices available, and I think they should pre-cook some chicken wings so you don't have to wait 10 minutes for them to cook. The salads are big but a lot of it is iceberg lettuce, they could use more romaine or Greenleaf to spruce it up. Overall not a bad place, but they could do some improvements. read more

By the time we got home ( 6 miles away) the grease from an attempted cheese steak were leaking everywhere?!? Negatives. I have never tasted "gravy" with such a bitter after taste in my life! We trid an eggplant Parm sandwich, Fried Musheroom app, cheese steak without the peppers because Jalpenos do not belong on a Philly cheesesteak! And a plain pizza! Having grown up in Long Island I have high standards for pizza. Luckily, this place meets my standards! I usually get a plain slice to go. Just like the typical pizza you would commonly find in Long Island or New York City, this pizza has nice thin crust, tasty tomato sauce, but not too much sauce, and delicious mozzarella cheese. They always have a variety of slices available from different meats to some vegetarian options. Their garlic knots are pretty good too. The calzones are a popular item. The guys behind the counter always serve with a smile. One even complimented me on my manicure! It is a casual place with the same type of pizza place decor I am accustomed to. Some may call the decor dated, but I call it traditional. The one located in Downtown is my usual spot. One night when this location closed early we got delivery from one of their other locations. They also have a catering menu. It's no surprise that it is owned and operated by descendants of Sicily trained in NYC! read more

Walked into the pizza shop and put my shirt covering over my face, I had walked 4 blocks from where I had parked before I had gotten there. As soon as I walked in I apologized and the man upfront said no problem. A man who I assumed was the manager came out and started yelling at me about not having a mask on yet she didn't even have a mask on himself. I had advised of the situation and he started to get really aggressive. At the same time one of the workers told me that they don't want my business and why am I even buying pizza at this point. This gentleman as well had a mask on but it wasn't even covering his nose or mouth yet he said these horrible things to me. The worst customer service that I have ever experienced I definitely will never go back to this place ever again. Very disgusted with the way they treated me. I do not advise going to this place if you don't want good customer service and wants to deal with very mean arrogance insulting people. I tried the food and it was rock solid, I took the food back in with my mask on and one of the guys that was being disrespectful still didn't even have his mask on properly. read more

This is my all time favorite pizza! I ate a slice every day from this particular shop for lunch while I was pregnant for my daughter, Ironically it is her favorite pizza now too. I was not working near a Pavones when I was pregnant for my son, so I had to settle for Pizza Hut for lunches. Guess what pizza he likes the best? Great slice to have on a quick lunch. The usually have slices that they just heat up, but then so do alot of places in syracuse. Pizza's good but it lacks its favorite buddy, the buffalo wing.
