This CPR center is so efficient and the instructors are so helpful and informative. They teach you CPR on adult and infant mannequins to do compressions on. You learn the basics and everything you need to perform CPR with one or two people while taking turns. I would definitely recommend anyone who is looking for a professional place to learn and become certified, look no further. I had to get the CPR for BLS providers and they offer that. That includes first aid training and using AED if needed. This is where you want to get your training. Thanks to my instructor for being so helpful. I'm spoiled and even though it was my fault for procrastinating and not keeping up with my bizness...I STILL WANT WHAT I WANT, WHEN I WANT IT!) LOL! So anyway....I find Bixby Health & Safety, and it was workin with my schedule. I paid and reserved my spot online (cuz I was in NO mood to be talkin on the phone right about then). Lol. And after I got off work Saturday morning and came home to shower, I was all up in that piece at the designated time. Kobby (the instructor) had me looking sideways at him for a second. Super tall brotha, with loooooong dreads. But to my amazement, he was entertaining, professional, practical, and cool with his teaching. There were 3 newbies in the group, and 3 of us getting re-certed. The class was decent. Very informative (there were changes since my last re-cert). The only thing I have a complaint about (which is why it only got 4 stars instead of 5) is that I felt it should have gone faster, smoother, for the recerts. After all, it wasn't our first time at the rodeo.....if ya know what I'm saying. Lol. Yeah, yeah, I'm impatient. So what. It goes down like that over here. Anyway, I breezed through the exam, in like 2 seconds flat. Got my new card and got the *BLEEP* on. Not in an attitudish way, but I felt like the newbies were the reason why I wasn't back at home already and in bed asleep cuz I had to work that night too. Long, (but ENTERAINING) story short.....if you need your BLS (CPR card) for work, school, or personal reasons.....go to this spot. Kobby is mad cool, and will even throw you a bottle of cold water because huffin and puffin in those masks gets you out of breath. (Especially if you smoke Kools like it's going out of style). Lol. About 10 of us made a reservation for the hybrid cpr class on Sunday and had all arrived 10 minutes in advance. The instructor sent emails out to us saying we should we there on time otherwise we are not allowed to take the class, but he has not arrived within an hour of the scheduled time slot (12 pm to 2:15pm). We are beyond upset about this unprofessional behavior from this organization (aka Frontline Alliance Health and ran by Lui Tortuya).

The support is unmatched not only academically but also socio-emotionally. The community is diverse and welcoming. My child is challenged academically but not stressed and she loves her school and teachers/staff/faculty/admin. The way the material is presented and discussed is all truly with curiosity, engaging and to develop critical thinkers. We know there is nothing like IVA middle school in the best way possible.

IVA was my school of choice for my son, because LB Unified refused to let my son attend his home school when we moved to another part of Long Beach. LBUSD also made the school selection and enrollment process so much more difficult that I decided to pull my child out altogether. Save the drama for your mama. In comparison, IVA had an easy enrollment and application process. I was able to contact someone from the school every time I had a question or concern. The student-teacher ratio is something LBUSD has historically fallen short on, and with IVA teachers knew my son by name. The learning environment became a small community built on pillars of intellectual virtues. As a parent, I appreciated the one-on-one communication from my child's instructors. I also enjoyed the social gatherings of parents, students and instructors, when I did have time to participate. Really, it's a private school feel without the price tag. My son was afforded opportunities he would have never had experienced in LBUSD as far as athletics and extracurricular activities such as weight lifting club, photography, and yearbook committee. Geographically, the area of the school is a little rough, but the school does have a nice outdoor area in the back for student activities away from the "distractions" of LB Blvd.
