honestly, terrible provider appointment. I came in with very specific issues to speak about. One dealing with breast tissue, possible eczema, and sudden weight gain from a medication I was prescribed elsewhere. Usually at a first time provider appointment they draw blood, test some urine, and do a complete exam on a new patient. None of that was done. Ms. Pullen read my concerns allowed with zero intent to make me feel i was being listened to or felt. She started off with stating "obviously you will gain weight on this medication" I asked for some sort of help with a solution. I stated I did not want weight loss injections and I had been exercising and eating right so i had no idea why it was not being taken care of on my end. Pullen stated "i guess I can send you to a psychiatrist but I'm not sure if I'm allowed to submit referrals" ...... that is exactly how a primary care provider works. so..... anyways she stated that my weight gain was the meds and the fact that I am bipolar and will never know stability. I then brought up my breast tissue concerns and she stated it's because I need actual bras and that mine ( she rummaged through my clothing when i was topless on the table and picked up my bra with her index and thumb and then threw it back on the chair ) is not a real bra and I must go to a bra store that will make me a bra. Once again i stated i was diagnosed with cystic breast tissue so no matter the case, that will not help. She never checked out my eczema. She then proceeded to ask what I do for birth control, as a woman no matter what issue you're coming in for ( you could be the virgin mary and they will still make you take a pregnancy test ) this question always arises. I let her know that with my monogamous partner we do not use birth control. Pullen stated "I don't understand, are you trying to have a deformed baby? on this medication plus smoking and alcohol and whatever else you're into it seems like you want a deformed baby." I laughed. How else am I supposed to react?????? What Dr says that????? She shamed my partner stating "what kind of 'man' does not wear a condom" ........right okay.......After shaming me and stating I want a deformed child, she then proceeds to tell me that even if I had a baby that was only a couple days old, and I got an abortion that I would be killing a life. This was enough for me to think to myself 'What the actual fuck is this old bitches issue?" This whole time of me taking these unnecessary blunt jabs of judgement from her she starts talking this deformed baby mess and telling me I am a baby killer in theory. I was nice to her the entire time. In fact i just kept laughing as though she was having this deadpan kind of humor but she was completely serious. I called Molina healthcare and reported her immediately. All of my issues I came in for and the most she talked about was my future baby with one eye and 3 legs. Don't go to this bitter lady. I have a note she had me leave with where she gave me the name of a bra place and she wrote CONDOM right under it as if that's what I needed to hear. She also reprimanded me for working with HIV/AIDS patients and not wearing condoms on my own time. COMPLETE WASTE OF TIME. SHE DIDNT EVEN LOOK AT MY POSSIBLE ECZEMA??????? She also never sent in a referral for a psychiatrist or gave me any leads on how to ween off the meds.. The woman at the front desk and the MA's were sweet. I hope they find a better paying job where they can work behind a provider who doesn't dim their light as well. ALSO!!! If I could use less stars I would. Dr Pullen Jo Ann is disgustingly unprofessional and condescending. At first I did appreciate the blunt honestly, I tried to hear her out and try not to take her words as a personal attack but it starts to get very personal. I've only seen her about 3times and each time she has this judgmental attitude she doesn't make u feel comfortable as a patient. Today she keeps trying to push this medication on me I tell her I don't feel comfortable taking the medication since my tests have yet to prove I even have a condition that needs that medication. She gets upset that I'm questioning it and starts to say that I because im 24 year old adult I thunk im expert and proceeded to call me uneducated for questioning her push on the medicine. I never claimed to know more than the dr I simply express my discomfort for a medication she's pushing on me. Jo Ann Pullen truly left a terrible taste in my mouth and if it wasn't for some test results I'm waiting on I would change Dr immediately. I used to think I was a hypochondriac but in all honesty because of her and the tests she decided to run, I was able to know that it wasn't just all in my mind. I went to Dr. Pullen for the first time recently. I haven't been to the doctor since before the Pandemic. 2.5yrs. I take great care of myself and am a true believer in having an open and honest discussion with your doctor. I typically get a check up once a year and blood work twice. Since I'm getting a bit older and haven't been to the doc in a while I not only need routine work for my age but have developed some areas of concern in other areas. I am very active, have nagging injuries and an older issue I needed follow up on with a specialist so I need referrals. It was important to be very thorough with what my concerns were, especially with a new doctor. We all should be honest with our doctors, no matter the problems. I initially felt Dr. Pullen and I got along. I liked her directness however, there was a sense she didn't believe me when I told her about a concern. She even said 'no you don't' when I told her about an issue and when she walked out she said "you have a lot of problems..for a man" and she did't return. As poor of a comment that is I'm not uptight and thought she was being light hearted. I brushed all this off and didn't think of it much. I even laughed at it. Until now.... I am writing this review because I received a letter from her saying she didn't want to see me and to find another doctor. This is insane to me. I didn't dislike her at all. I'm just guy who hasn't seen a doctor in a while and have some injuries and concerns. I'm not sure if this is someone who just doesn't want to put in the work with a patient or she for some reason didn't like me but I know for sure I've always had great relationships with any doctor I had. I'm pretty new to LA and finding a new doctor has been hard. Now I have to start all over again for no apparent reason. ......and a message to anyone reading this. Sadly I cannot refer this doctor to anybody. I've had the worst experience here that I have ever had at a doctors office. My first visit was actually good she took time to listen to me and sent out all referrals I needed and had me go get blood drawn. She called me with the test results. Everything was fine although my cholesterol was high and she wanted me to go on a statin. I said instead of going on medication I would prefer to try and get healthier through nutrition and weight loss. I tried to talk to her about nutrition and asked a few questions on things that I had learned and what her thoughts were but she got very agitated and raised her voice a bit and said if you don't want to take my 20 something years experience and take the medicine there is nothing I can do about it and rush up our call said goodbye and hung up so fast without giving me time to say goodbye. Saw her a couple months later and I had lost 20 pounds through changing my diet. She asked how I had lost weight so quickly. I said I removed all the bad carbs that cause inflammation in my body. She didn't really have much of a comment after that ...didn't even congratulate me on my weight loss. I don't think she really cared too much since it wasn't her idea on how I lost my weight. She seemed more upset that it had happened. Usually a doctor praises you when you have lost weight and encourages you to keep up the good work. I just didn't really understand her reaction? Then finally came the day for my actual physical I was 10 minutes late because of very bad traffic on the freeway. She had the front staff let me know she couldn't see me and I needed to reschedule. As the next person had already arrived. The person in the waiting room was very kind and said she was not in a hurry and offered to give up some time so that I could go in and they still wouldn't see me. They told me to come back several hours later but I had another important appointment that I could not reschedule. I expressed to the nurse that I was really upset that the doctor wouldn't see me and all she said was well you weren't here at your schedule time. I understand that but it wasn't like I was 15 minutes to 20 minutes late it was only 10 minutes. My appointment was at noon I got there at 12:10 PM they told me the 12:15 appointment was already there. Apparently the doctor only scheduled 15 minutes to do my physical.... is that enough time for a physical before you schedule another patient directly behind me? I don't know maybe that's how they do things now. I started looking for a new doctor because this whole experience just didn't feel right. I never felt totally comfortable with this doctor. She made me feel like I was being talked down to. Then a few days later I get a letter from her stating that she" feels our therapeutic relationship has come to an end and she no longer wants to treat me and is giving me 30 days notice to find a new doctor". Who does that? I've never gotten a letter from a doctor like that who has decided they no longer want to treat me. Well no worries I was already looking for a new doctor. I don't need a doctor who's going to raise her voice at me and talk down to me when I want to have a simple discussion about nutrition over medication. read more

I can't imagine ANY PA's, NP's, MD's I work with treating patients the way I was in this office: This was with out a doubt the worst experience I have ever had with a PCP. MD was extremely rude. I told her I had a history of abnormal test results. She NEVER sent me the results of my office visit. I called THREE times. Normally I would go somewhere else but was waiting on pcp change. Had to get my insurance to call. NANCY said she would call back, very rude. Never did. Said all my results were 'probably' normal. Fast forward, new pcp, results abnormal. Possible cancerous cells. Long story short lodged a complaint with insurance. Even on my worst day I would never subject my patients to the treatment I received at this office. read more

I'll preface this by saying, I'm not the 1 star Yelper, scorched earth type. But what I've been through over the last several months with Dr. Pullen's office has reached a tipping point and I feel compelled to warn other Yelpers. Doctor Pullen herself is a fine doctor. She listens, helps you out when you're in for a doctor's visit, and isn't rushing you out the door. She's diagnosed bronchitis right quick, and dispensed the appropriate medication for the appropriate symptoms, as well as for a chronic condition. Getting in the door itself is the problem... There are two options here: it's personal, and they don't like us. Or, they're completely incompetent. Either way is unacceptable. If you are on vacation and can't handle the request for a week, just communicate that. If you are unable to help because I'm not the patient myself and I'm calling on behalf of my domestic partner, say so. If you don't like us and don't want to help, TOO FUCKING BAD it's your job and you're a medical professional. My partner has a chronic medical condition requiring the same medication for nearly 10 years now. He has been with Dr. Pullen for 6 months, and during this period he has repeatedly struggled to get any kind of communication with the staff, timely refills, or returned phone calls. Every single month, his medication runs out. Every single month, we call a week ahead of time to have it refilled. And every time, without fail, we need to make 4 phone calls, several faxed requests, and leave several messages to get any kind of response. The lapse in medication refill causes SEVERE side effects. My partner is left very sick, and no amount of calls will get a return back from Nancy, Dr. Pullen's nurse on staff. The doctor requires a faxed refill request from the pharmacy. Now, while I think this is arcane and ridiculous to require any kind of faxing in 2017, whatever, I'll follow the rules. But CVS has faxed Dr. Pullen's office numerous times, this week there have been daily faxes... 7 total. I have spoken to sweetheart Mingo at the front desk over 12 times. I've left about 5 tearful voice messages, with promises of returned calls. Nothing has happened. Today was the last straw. After a week of chasing our tails, we paid out of pocket for a new doctor, switched through our insurance carrier Molina for the next month, and were set straight. The new doctor we saw said that whoever is overseeing the office should be ashamed. We had better treatment when we lived in Poland for a year. I intend to file grievances with my insurance provider. It's too bad that the staff at Dr. Pullen's office is dragging her down and treating her patients like second class citizens. Dr. Pullen, if you're reading this, you were a great doctor, but you need to up your game in the back of the house. Sick people deserve to get help from their trusted primary care physician. read more

Dr. Pullen is an amazing doctor. My mother had seen (and fired) at least five other doctors before seeing Dr. Pullen. Dr. Pullen was the first one to tell us that my mother had dementia and was actually able to talk to her, let alone treat her on an ongoing basis. The care Dr. Pullen gave my mom was extraordinary and as my mother's disease progressed she was compassionate, clear and decisive about her advice when complicated decisions arose. I'm so grateful. Seeing my mom's treatment, I switched to Dr. Pullen for my own primary care. Years ago I suffered an injury/surgery that caused severe pain for 2 years (for 6 months I couldn't walk). Cedars-Sinai sent me to specialists, pain centers, thru countless tests. It was excruciating. They never determined the cause. A few weeks ago the pain started to come back. Dr. Pullen diagnosed it in 5 minutes. (Are you kidding me?!) 5 minutes! I also have problems with headaches. My previous doctor (at Cedars) had access to some of the world's foremost authorities on the subject. No help. Again, Dr. Pullen was relentless in finding a solution...what kind of headaches, what will and won't work. She really has a love for her craft and for her patients. And she's brilliant at her job. Other reviewers are right that she treats the whole person. You aren't rushed out of the office. I've never had better care. And I've always found Nancy to be a part of that experience. Sometimes it does take a while to get a phone call back. But when you go to the office take a second to notice that Nancy and Dr. Pullen are surrounded by piles of paperwork. There are 2 of them facing a monumental insurance task. It's not just the paperwork. It's going to bat for their patients to get the medications and services needed to actually be covered. Hire another person, overhead goes up, see more patients in the same time frame. That's your trade off. I've had the trade off. This is the best care. read more

I made the rich stop taking advantage of the poor and here in L.A. it was decided by Dr Pullen and her husband who works for Cedar-Sinai that I needed to die. She was very nice at first but I learned later that Dr Pullen and her husband told her to keep seeing me till I died. When I started to die with a red blood count of 4.1 (normal is 13.3 to 16.6 ) she shut the door in my face and would not help me. By the grace of God I made it home, fell out on the floor, and was taken to a hospital where a doctor who the Pullens had no power over saved my life. I was given 7 to 8 pints of blood, intravenous antibiotics, a Endoscopy and Colonoscopies. I will always be grateful to that Doctor (he was retiring and I doubt if you can find one now}. read more

Dr Pullen is one of the most thorough and helpful doctors I have ever seen in my life. I highly recommend her!!! She takes her time and really cares about getting to the root of the problem, especially when there are complex medical issues overlapping. She is compassionate, listens to my concerns and gives a well rounded approach - not just prescribing medicine but suggesting lifestyle changes etc. Over five years, she has been a consistent life-safer for me, literally. She and her staff work efficiently and quickly with my pharmacists and other medical specialists as needed. More than anything, I always leave her office with the sense that she deeply cares about my wellbeing, and she is always thinking of new ways to help my complex medical problems. Then it takes you 3 weeks of calling EVERY DAY to make an appointment - no one answers the phone and no one calls you back. The doctor herself is fine if you want a judgmental, jaded doctor who doesn't really seem to care about your well being other than getting you out of her practice. They WERE great. I started seeing Dr. Pullen over 3 years ago. This year has been the worst. She not only has misdiagnosed me several times, leading to me consuming unnecessary antibiotics but also lied to my face about getting results to a blood panel she never requested. Most recently she insisted that my fatigue was "all in my head" and "she hates to say it but psychological". I've never expressed a history of depression to her nor is she a licensed psychologist yet she said "the next step is to prescribe an antidepressant". (She's also pulled out a weed pen, stating that she has disposal caps, if I wanted to try it...). When I pushed back on the antidepressants and said that seemed drastic and asked if there was anything else we could do , she just said "nope, there's nothing". In a phone call, I said that doesn't sound right and she laughed at me and screamed "I've been a doctor for 25 years since before you were born". I hung up and immediately changed my PCP. I just received a certified letter stating "We have come to a place in our relationship where we no longer have a good therapeutic alliance...". No kidding. This woman is a joke and I've already filed a complaint with the board of internal medicine and plan on filing one with my insurance. She's super dangerous and I would steer clear. read more

As me being an Active Duty Military Member and being based in a different state when I needed specific things to be able to move closer to my father to help him out, they didn't help me nor my father. Jo Ann Pullen has been my PCP for 4 years now and I find her to be direct, attentive and personable. I see the negative reviews primarily focus on her nurse Nancy. Please be aware that Nancy gets what needs to be done, done. She will not hold your hand through your personal crises. That is not her job. Nancy has always pushed forward all orders promptly for all referrals to authorize procedures and visits with specialists. With the problems we are all having thanks to the way healthcare is managed these days, I find Dr Pullen accessible and available. read more

Dr. Pullen is a wonderful doctor. Most doctors in Los Angeles do not listen to their patients. Dr Pullen does listen and actually cares about what you have to say. I have seen quite a few doctors in my life time who just want you in that room for 1 New York minute and then your on you way out the door. Not Dr. Pullen, she is very patient and stays focused on what needs to be done to get you healthy. Another positive, is that I have never had to wait a long time in the waiting room. Finally, nothing to do with medical, but its Free Parking.... (seriously... free parking in LA?) with a huge parking lot with many handicapped spaces! Dr. Pullen is a knowledgeable, kind, and intelligent family internist and geriatric specialty physician. She has been following me for about one year. My experience with her has been great: timely refills, always willing to talk about my treatment preferences, and ultimately all she wants to do is fix whatever my presenting concerns are. Full stop. The one weakness of the practice - and I will say it's stark compared to larger medical offices or healthcare systems - is the "old-school" (think Norman Rockwell) look-and-feel to the office. There are no bells and whistles here: credit cards are not accepted, and the nurse takes vitals and blood pressure all by hand (which, incidentally, gives more accurate readings that fancy auto-cuff readers, but I digress). The wait room is a bit dingy, and the elevator is frustrating and takes forever. The important thing to remember here is not to judge a book by its cover. Dr. Pullen is serving the local community, which means caring for families who often have lower financial means, or are living on low fixed incomes (seniors). She's here to HELP people get well and genuinely cares for them the best way she can. That is what is essential- something often lacking at high-end boutique medical clinics that are trying to sell you services or medical treatments you don't need. read more

Do not go here if your life depends on it. My partner researched thoroughly to chose Pullen, then after difficulty with her nurse receptionist Nancy, was never seen at all by the Dr. Not once. After waiting a ridiculous 2 weeks for an urgent appt, (and both our insurance co and our Dr from Urgent Care asking Pullen to see my partner urgently), Nancy called and said they will no longer see my partner because of this review on Yelp then hung up on my partner asking why. Who knew a Yelp review from someone else could get a patient refused medical attention... rather than reviewing their own practices... That has got to be illegal and I'm definitely looking in to it. My partner received a letter today via FedEx express saying the relationship has been compromised and we will have to find a different PCP. BECAUSE OF YELP?!?! Regardless of the urgency??? This is unethical. At first we were just disappointed in our experience with Nancy over the phone but had faith in the Dr. Wrong. The letter made that clear. Neither one of these practitioners upheld their obligations to the medical code of conduct, not even in their obligations to keep each other in check, let alone caring for a patient in urgent need. Don't waste your precious, let alone Urgent time here. We have wasted time waiting for them as my partners health has declined rapidly. I am disgusted. read more

I have witnessed her compassion and advocacy for her patients as she provided care for my father throughout his numerous health challenges including Alzheimer's disease. Dr. Pullen is an excellent diagnostician and collaborator, she immerses herself in solving problems and is persistent until she finds the answers. She works tirelessly on my mother's complicated and debilitating health issues. She goes out of her way to coordinate other healthcare providers and agencies to offer input on providing the best possible care and support for her patients and their caregivers. Dr. Pullen is very smart, compassionate, and hard working. She is totally reliable and dependable. She has the natural ability to make those around her feel better even when the circumstances are not optimal. I have been a patient of Dr. Pullens for more than a couple of years and I have had nothing but superior care and treatment from both Dr. Pullen and Nancy. Dr. Pullen and Nancy have also "gone to bat" for me when I needed a procedure that my health care provider initially denied. Dr. Pullen went above and beyond to make sure I was taken care of. I am also a breast cancer survivor and while that surgery and treatment was performed at Cedar-Sinai, the personal touch, concern and professionalism I have received at Silver Lake Medical Center, rivals Cedars. Dr. Pullen is my new PCP. I saw her for my annual women's health exam. She and her staff are awesome. They return your calls, call you to followup when they say they will, and are friendly and professional. With many doctors and offices, it feels like their goal is to get you in and out as fast as possible without concern for your actual wellbeing. Dr. Pullen was thorough, patient, honest, and helpful. Medical professionals in the past have given me the impression that they saw me as a payment rather than a patient, which really eroded my trust, but that is not the case with Dr. Pullen. Bottom line, she's great and I recommend her, especially for women since she will take care of your annual pelvic exam and pap smear. read more

Dr. Pullen and her nurse, Nancy are amazing. I am so happy to have found them. My partner and I live in Eagle Rock and happily make the drive to Silver Lake Medical Center to be treated by Dr. Pullen. She really listens to your concerns and asks such intuitive questions. She doesn't simply prescribe prescription medication but thinks of many alternatives that can help. She really gets a sense of your family's medical history and considers all factors/variables. We never feel rushed or dismissed during our visit. Other things to note: the medical center has free parking and you will always find a spot, the building is no thrills and you just take the elevator to the 7th floor suite, the front desk Admin Mingo is very sweet and helpful and Nancy is very good at returning voicemails and happy to answer questions regarding appointments, prescriptions, etc. Added bonus: if you need to do bloodwork for or post your visit, the office is on the third floor of the same building. DO NOT GO HERE. The nurse (Nancy) hung up in my face stating the office does not take our insurance despite the fact that our insurance company said the doctor is in network. She cancelled our appointment on the day of the appointment after we had waited for weeks for the appointment to come and took time off of work. read more

Dr. Pullen has been my physician for the past 3 years. She is knowledgeable and actually discusses treatment options and plans. She ask questions, delves into issues thoroughly and seeks feedback. I had a great Dr. before and it took me a long time and lots of research to find a Dr. who was covered by my health plan. Dr. Pullen is terrific. And of course she would not be able to run her office so smoothly without her stellar nurse Nancy. Nancy is a helpful, courteous health care professional who manages a myriad of tasks in a very busy office. In an often thankless job, she is fantastic. read more

I am not a yeler what so ever. I am must say that I have know Dr.Pullen for over 20 yrs. She in fact is a great physician. However, I can no longer continue to allow myself or my mother to continue in her practice. Dealing with her Medical Asst. NANCY has just turning into a complete nightmare. For being in the medcial field she has no compassion. It is difficult to get any return call from her without leaving several messages. When she does call back it speaks so fast that my mom can bearly understand her. Let's not forget if you leave Nancy a message that she does not like. She will call you back in a very rude tone. I am also in healthcare and I would never allow my staff to speak or treat a patient in the manner that Nancy does. She acts like she is doing the patient a favor. Dr.Pullen you need to remind Nancy why she got into the field I hope it was to HELP PEOPLE. NOT MAKING THEIR SITUATION MORE COMPLICATED. Shame on you Nancy. One day you will be a patient or one of your family members that you love will be in my mom's shoe. When that happens I hope they do not end up with a NANCY. read more
