There was plenty of parking and easy to find with banners by the road that said empanadas and etc. Plenty of food, drink, and dessert options to choose from. Inside, there was actually a decent amount of seating space available if you wanted to sit and eat. The space was previously a Subway, but I think they should have made a few adjustments to make the space work a little better for them. The owners were super friendly and made sure that any questions were answered. The food and drinks were delicious. We were excited for the soda options they had. Super tasty food. The chicken chaufa was like an asian fried rice with maduros. The lomo saltado plate was so flavorful. We wish it had enough sauce to cover the rice and the fries. I highly recommend the lomo saltado plate for any beer lovers.

This little gem is a "YOU MUST GO!!! We stopped in tonight and had the most wonderful experience. We ordered the Lomo Saltado, Steak Chaufa, and a Shrimp Empanada. Miguel (the owner with his wife) was so knowledgeable in Puerto Rican/Peruvian cuisine. His wife is from Peru and she killed it with the authentic spices!!! I have never had steak cooked that way - it was absolutely tremendous! We can't wait to try everything on the menu.

Puerta Lima is a great new eatery in Gales Ferry and the owners have revived this location of the old Subway restaurant by creating a business miles above in comparison. If you are looking for a great spot for lunch, look no further. Want a delicious pressed sandwich big enough to share but don't want to because then you couldn't have it all to yourself? This is your place. The have tons of freshly prepared ingredients to build your own bowl whether or not you choose to make it healthy is up to you. Try, try, try the Chicha Morada! It's a popular dried purple corn Peruvian beverage with a lovely, not-super sweet flavor, like a fruity mixture of mulled apple cider and a grape freeze pop. I highly recommend the experience. The empanadas are amazing, available in beef, chicken, shrimp, and pizza. The beef ones have green olives in them which seems Puerto Rican style to me. I recommend the bowls which can be made vegan/plant-based or for those meat lovers, top it with whatever protein you're looking for. Bring a friend and order two pressed sandwiches and then swap halves so you each get to experience something new. The desserts looked amazing and fir the holidays they have hit chocolate bombs. Everything looks like it's made from scratch and this family owned business is very proud of what they have here. The owner stopped by our table to ask how our food was and boasted about his newly added dining area on the side. Go out and get it now and support this up and coming local business!!! Close by to the Navy base, this is a great location for lunch out with the office or your division!

Great experience! Nice location. Had the arroz chaufa and shrimp empanada and both were excellent. Friendly and welcoming and owners. They have a variety of items to choose from, can't go wrong.

A coworker recommended this place and I'm glad he did! A Puerto Rican/Peruvian fusion restaurant, the owners are extremely welcoming and polite. They offered us samples and explained some of the local dishes to us. They were very proud of their food, as they should be - it was great! We also liked their decor, and their flan was one of the best I've ever had. They also serve handmade drinks, which are outstanding. I'd also like to mention that their portion sizes are generous, in particular the empanadas. We will definitely be visiting again!

It is an unassuming building on the side of the road, in the middle of a neighborhood. It is about 10 minutes south of Mohegan Sun. Donatello's With A Twist definitely offers a twist! They serve a wide variety of options: American breakfast, sandwiches & burgers, Puerto Rican dishes & Italian fare. Hubby enjoyed playing the free Pac-Man video game as we waited for our food. There are a couple of seats inside & a little garden outside. Most people took their food to go. There are 7 - YAAASSSSS SEVEN! - mofongo options on the menu. Ummm... yes, please! For the uninitiated, mofongo is a dish from Puerto Rico featuring plantains as its main ingredient. They are picked green, cut into pieces & typically fried, then pounded in a wooden pilón (mortar and pestle) with a variety of spices, broth & some type of cooking oil . If you are a fan of Guy Fieri's Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives, you know that he is a mofongo freak. I've had mofongo before & definitely enjoy it, hubby was new to the experience. We selected the Shrimp Creole Mofongo & it was spectacular. We heard the pounding of the plantains in the back as we waited for our food so I knew it was being made special for us. The mound of mofongo was flavorful, the shrimp were large & perfectly cooked in a spicy red sauce with a little salad on the side to cool things off. We also ordered the Chicharron De Pollo with Tostones. I thought it was going to be a harder fry on the chicken but the dark meat was yummi. The tostones were perfectly fried & the highlight of this dish. Hubby can't pass up a steak sandwich so he ordered a large Boricua Steak Bomb. HOLY COW! The sandwich was ginormous!!! A ton of steak with a good amount of melty cheese topped with a spicy sauce. Hubby loved it! I saw a guy order a slab of meat & I went up afterwards to inquire what it was. A perfectly fried chicharrón - fried pork belly. It was a good combination of meat, fat & crunchy bits. As a German, I was introduced to grilled schweinebauch as a kid. It is not everyone's cup of tea because of the fat content & idea of eating pig's stomach but I love it. I should have bought another one to take with me for later! Donatello's makes a number of fresh juices & we ordered the passionfruit which was a refreshingly sweet & sour combo. They also sell desserts but we were so full that I didn't even look to see what was offered. If you are in the area, I would recommend stopping by Donatello's With A Twist to try some of their special dishes. It is a celebration of flavor & culture!

We loved all the photos on the wall showing how this restaurant has been part of the community for some years. Our food was overall good, but not amazing. I got an eggs benedict special and added spinach at the server's recommendation; I was surprised that it came on a bed of spinach, rather than cooked and on top of the English muffin with the other ingredients. Everything was cooked well, and I enjoyed my meal. My husband got an omelet and the home fries, which were fine. We also got some of the house-made banana bread with blueberries but were disappointed that it lacked structure and was rather soggy. We toasted it up at home in slices, and that was much better. My husband said the coffee was "fine--regular diner coffee." We were frankly shocked by the prices. We are used to California restaurant prices, which are quite high--but our breakfast here was even more expensive than that. Not sure what accounts for this, as there are other breakfast places in the area that aren't quite this dear.
