I love this tea shop! The staff is very informative and the owner is clearly passionate about tea. I bought a bunch of tea a while back based off recommendations of the staff and I loved everything I bought. The Bedtime tea is lovely. It has become a staple at night. The Earl Grey tea is incredible and such great quality. I came back for a refill and found out that the canisters for the earl grey are reusable and they'll give you a bag so you can just refill your tin. I asked the owner for another black tea and he recommended his favorite - Ancient Wild Red. I'm excited to try this new tea in the morning! What a horrible horrible establishment. My sister tried to go for a ceremony at 9:30 am on her birthday and she arrived AT 9:30 and was not allowed in. But not just that, the lights were off, the door was locked and no one answered. she called and knocked and no one would let her in. Later on, we called to try and get a refund and whoever answered was so horribly rude and completely unwilling to be even a little bit compassionate or understanding. He revealed that the ceremony did happen and he SAW her, HARD her knocking and calling and didn't let her in. He also refused to give her a refund. Additionally, he kept refusing to "have this conversation" with her. Despite it literally being his job. He was so cruel and inconsiderate. She spent money on this, arrived on time, was not let in, and was then ridiculed and denied the decency of even having a conversation. Do not support this business. read more

Interesting spot. They of course have a great selection of teas, tea-making supplies, etc. However, the thing that is driving down my rating is the staff. There was an older gentleman that was very pretentious and condescending. I feel like you should only go in there if you really know what you want, or he has no patience for you. Friends and I stopped in because we thought it looked interesting but was met with unfriendly and condescending staff. I asked the staff a simple question about the shape of a certain teapot. The old man in the glasses responded with an answer that was not only unhelpful but also rude and condescending. I would definitely recommend reserving a time and soaking in the experience Regarding the tea - the shop has a wonderful selection of Chinese teas, ranging from daily drinker teas to some rather high end aged puer. Lots of tea varieties available. You order upstairs and they bring your tea to the basement for you. There is limited seating with space for about 8. The atmosphere aims to be zen downstairs. No electronics are permitted. There is music and books which encourage meditation. We had the golden Assam tea. The staff was very helpful. read more

This shop sells fake wares claiming to be antique and artisan. The owner of the shop knows nothing truly about the origin of his wares and upsells subpar quality wares as exclusive for overly exorbitant values. I'm pretty sure his Yixing pots were all bought on AliExpress.com and he's upselling them by 10x to get a nice profit off them. I made the mistake of mishandling an item by accident and was prompted to then buy the ware which had a minimal chip and had a purely cosmetic, not functional, defect. I was gifted tea for the incredible purchase, but the teapot pours poorly and even if I were to brew the tea in another way (which I can't because the 1 oz bag (~28gr) of Puerh was just enough to brew a 300ml yixing teapot) it wouldn't change that for it being "organic" it was a weak type that the proprietor is upselling as well. My advice, go to Yunnan Sourcing, https://yunnansourcing.com/, or any other reputable shop to buy wares and good quality tea instead charlatan's "boutique" which is beautiful to see, especially his lower level which is like a japanese tea room and I assume he does tastings here from time to time (if free, and you live nearby-why not? but don't buy). One of my favorite experiences on a recent trip to Brooklyn. The space has two floors. The entrance level is a little tea store shop. Downstairs in the "basement" is a beautiful space with floor to ceiling cement walls. The aesthetic is serene and calming. The space is very small with only three tea tables. Its really hard to know where to begin. There really wasn't anything positive I can say about this place. I think the concept was cool to combine a clothing design studio and tea shop, but the tea shop is a horrible representation of tea culture. 1.) The prices. This is inexcusable, especially considering the quality of the tea. When I am charged 20 bucks to drink one pu-erh, I don't want a pu-erh tea bag. This is shocking and would turn anyone off from ever trying it again. Their other teas were stale and way over-priced. For a place that is trying to pretend to know stuff about tea; I am shocked and appalled that they would think serving Pu-Erh tea in a tea bag is acceptable. 2.) The store front is very claustrophobic and is very difficult to tell how much things cost, or what is for sale. It took about 10 minutes for me to find the tea menu, and another 10 minutes to finally get my order placed. 3.) The worst part was the tea themselves. I love tea. I study tea. I have even worked on a tea estate. What this tea shop is doing is close to highway robbery. The quality of teas was mediocre at best (think Teavana), and were clearly bulk ordered from some wholesaler, and have since sat on the shelves getting stale and musty (not talking about the Pu-Erh here, as at least that can handle the aging!). Pu-Erh tea is popular at the moment. And with a tea shop named Pu-Erh, you think they would know what they are doing, and are able to do it well. My advice would be to forget all the other teas they are trying to sell, and focus on just Pu-Erh. That would be a much more appropriate shop for their name, and it would be better to learn and focus on a single tea, than do a half-ass failure on everything. As it stands, this tea shop is in my worst 5 tea shops I have ever been to. I honestly would have preferred to be in a Starbucks because at least then I wouldn't have to deal with pretentious nonsense. read more

I live nearby and was absolutely delighted when I first walked into this beautiful space. I even texted my family to say next time they visit, we should do a tea tasting here. However, a very odd exchange with the owner left me feeling bad for the rest of the afternoon. I ordered an iced tea and sat outside to drink it and enjoy a book. 20 mins later the owner came out to say they have a to-stay service for next time; great, I assumed this was an environmental point so we could avoid wasting plastic. However, 5 mins later he comes back out and tells me it costs more money to stay and he only has this one chair and he expected me to go already. I'm just like, welp, I guess I'm going then! I would have happily paid more had I been given the option of to-stay service when I ordered. I just really didn't appreciate being shooed away, especially since there was no one else waiting, I had just tipped $2 on my $5 ice tea, and I thought we had had such a nice exchange earlier. I wasn't much of a tea person, but after I tried their matcha on a whim - and loved it - I try to make a pit-stop whenever I'm around. Last weekend, I stopped in to get some hot Chinese tea. It was snowing and I was cold, plus a little hung over from the earlier night. The tea maker did a really cool ceremony of washing the vessels in hot water, and steeping the tea in a miniature kettel, filtering it through some kind of funnel and serving it. It was fun to watch. I sat on the desk on the top level, in a small chair, sipping my tea and watched the sun melt away the snow on Grand street. Apart from the chais, there's cute , albeit very dainty things in the store, if that's your thing. Not the best place to lounge in for hours with your laptop, but good to take away and brew at your own casa. read more
