The fresh food bar is one of my favorite things about the store, and their produce is consistently some of the best you'll find. I also always stop by the deli for their freshly sliced cheeses and turkey. The bakery and prepared meals are excellent too, and everything just feels higher quality than your average grocery store. Did not take it back but did alert customer service. Today 5/14/2026 was just the latest kicker. Picked up some "Cherry" labeled turnovers to take home. Upon taking one to sample, I discover that they were Apple. I head back to the store, receipt in hand and instead of replacing the box, I simply wanted my money back. $5.99 plus tax coming to $6.39. The young man attended to me decided that I should only receive $6.35 due to a penny shortage. How much trouble would it have been to simply give back to me $6.40? That does not even pay for the gas trip there and back and the hassle. Normally, I would just let this go, but I have seen this location "slipping' in my onion as of late. I can understand mistakes and forgive them easily, BUT I will not tolerate bad customer service. I have left out a few things, but this shall suffice for now. I've lived in Raleigh for 14 years, and while I've enjoyed a few things from The Fresh Market before, I had never tried their bakery items. When I saw them on the Too Good To Go app, I decided it was the perfect excuse to run out and try it. My first two interactions were fantastic--the lovely elderly woman in the bakery and the sweet cashier checking me out were absolutely amazing and treated me with genuine kindness. However, the front-end manager (I believe her name was Tip or Tiff) completely ruined the experience. Her demeanor was an absolute deterrent. In an interaction that lasted less than three minutes, she hounded the cashier, repeating four or five times: *"Make sure you watch her scan it on the app."* The first time she said it, I thought nothing of it--just standard store process. But repeating it aggressively that many times while I, a Black customer, am just standing there rubbed me entirely the wrong way. To make matters worse, I had also picked up a granola bar to purchase. The manager came over *again*, hounding the girl: *"What are you doing? I have to make sure. Did you actually see her scan it?"* I felt incredibly sorry for the poor cashier, and frankly, I felt targeted. It is deeply frustrating to still deal with people acting like I don't belong in spaces where I absolutely do--and it's even more disheartening when that energy comes from another minority. If I had known I'd be treated with that level of baseline suspicion, I wouldn't have even spent money on the granola bar. That manager's behavior completely turned me away from ever spending my money at this store again. I truly hope this is a lesson for her in how she treats people. To the sweet cashier and the wonderful woman in the bakery, thank you for being decent human beings--I hope you both have an amazing day.
