Nothing beats a Publix deli sandwich. I swear when I was in town I went here at least 2x a week. The jerk turkey club with vhipotle gouda cheese, bacon and deli dressing are a match made in taste bud heaven. I'm a Texas girl so HEB has my heart but I do appreciate a Publix trip! So I stopped by this location because I was in the area and my daughter needed to use the bathroom. En route I noticed a few homeless people, it's near downtown so that wasn't shocking to me. Upon entering the store I noticed a police officer by the door. Ok, kind of weird but I chucked it up to the "homeless problem". Little did I know that I would be seeing more of this same police officer throughout my shopping experience. The finally straw for me was the officer conveniently came behind the cashier that was checking me out. I'm assuming to make sure I'm paying for my groceries?? Wow! He immediately went back to his post by the door once I finished checking out. Shopping was definitely not a pleasure. I wasn't going to say anything but I have my 4 year old daughter with me and if I don't speak up now who knows what will happen once she's an adult and gets the same unsolicited, biased treatment. I have had too many recurring issues with the deli sandwiches. I order on line, show up at the time they tell me or later, and the Sandwich isn't ready. They actually begin making the sandwich when I arrive and tell them I am there. One time I can understand. Now it's becoming routine. I spoke to the manager Miguel about it. After multiple attempts to inform customer service and managers I am done with this store. Specifically, the deli. After about the 5th time my chicken tender sub I preordered was placed in the cold rack I finally spoke with customer service. The problem persisted so I spoke with a manager. Now I go to pick up a preordered cold sub and it is sitting in the hot rack. It's a very simple concept as well as food safety. If they aren't following these guidelines what else are they not doing properly. I refuse to use this store again for any shopping. Just had to walk out because they were 30 min late and were just ignoring my ticket...Either fix the estimated pick up time or get better organized. Takes way to long for some of these subs. The deli associate was kind and helpful (checking on my wrap) but for some reason they weren't making it. Told them to cancel it, which wasn't a problem because they had t even started it. I shop at Publix over Whole Foods,sprouts, etc because they are known for service. I placed an order on Publix Instacart for pickup. An item was refunded without me picking something else. I get to the store and let them know I placed a second order since an item was refunded without me selecting a new item. Guy says he doesn't know he was only given the bags he had. I call the store and tell them what happened and asked if my second order (1 item) could be brought out so I don't have to make a second trip. I was told I had to call Instacart. I let employee know my dog was in the car or else I would run in and ran the item. She told me again to call Instacart. Normally Publix has great service. I know pick up is through Instacart but maybe try to problem solve for customers. I now have to take my dog home just to drive back for 1 item. read more

I could walk through my old Publix in South Florida while wearing a blindfold and still find whatever it is I needed. I naively believed all Publix stores were great, aside from one other Publix location I hated (and just chalked it up to it being an anomaly). I've now learned that's not the case, because this place is truly terrible. As others have mentioned, this store is small -- understandable, given its downtown location. Outside of a hurricane or the day before Thanksgiving, I've never had to fight for a parking spot at a grocery store until coming here. I've already left this store without an ingredient I needed because they didn't have it. The Publix on Dale Mabry is farther away from home, but I already know I'm more often going to go there instead of here (at least until the new Publix by my place opens). I ended up there anyway to get something this location didn't have, so why waste my time here at this point? read more

The Deli and Meats staff are the least personable or professional of any Publix. I was the only one waiting to get some meat and cheese. It took 10 minutes for any of the 6-8 staff members to acknowledge my presence. Then it took another 10 minutes for the woman to slice my half lb of deli meat. She then handed me thickly cut turkey instead of thinly cut ham. Then she told me that's what I requested when I very clearly did not. She huffed and puffed looking for the ham I wanted. Then she told me what I wanted was out of stock when it was clearly in the case. You will have to undo it and unwrap the rolled up lump of meat in the middle of the sandwich. Or maybe it's on one side. Then replace it in s layer fashion to fill the bun and put it all back together. Unless you want to get several bites of just plain bread. She Oh. Never go to the deli noonish or 5ish for custom sandwich orders. They never have enough people behind the counter for the long lines (20 minutes+) and incorrect orders are common (like wrong meat or cheese) June. Lowering my rating. So many months later I hardly ever buy sandwiches there anymore. But today I bought their most expensive brand. Poor quality control is aggravating. Got home and it had all of a HALF slice of cheese as pictured. Also the bread was unevenly sliced with one side being almost paper thin and the other thick and not very fresh tasting. Epic fail. Ordered one and a half hours prior to requested delivery chicken wings from the deli. There's some kind of a disconnect between the ordering system in the deli because I watched my shopper shop for multiple orders for that hour and a half when he went to the deli, there were no chicken wings. Why? Seems to me an hour and a half is plenty of time to fry one box of naked chicken wings. I don't know where the disconnect is, but it seems to be typical across the chain because this is a Tampa store I was dealing with and the same thing happens with the Auburndale store, the system could work so smoothly but for some reason it's not. read more

I prefer Publix over Winn Dixie or Fresh Market. The stores are were well laid out, easy to navigate and find almost anything you need. The stores are always busy and the shelves are better stocked around the late evening from 8pm to close. Particularly the produce section. It is a headache to go through that picked over section at any other time of day. The bakery offers a wonderful selection of baked goodies. I recently had one of the best cherry danishes. It was unbelievably good. I like how friendly the cashiers and other employees are every time I shop here. The only con about Publix is it's parking lot. It is an absolute ZOO, crazy crowded and not easy to get in and out. read more

No way I will continue to do so after my past few experiences. Yesterday's trip to Publix was awful. Let's start with the deli. Why start breaking things down if you don't close for another 2 hours? Now you have two people trying to make sandwiches with only one side of the sandwich prep there to use. Now you have a mess, one person leaning over the other trying to get to the lettuce and other things, etc. Makes no sense. Now let's talk about all of the trash you are still trying to sell. Last time I went to Publix I bought bread and didn't realize until the next morning that it was moldy. Yesterday I made sure to check the expiration dates and almost half of what was on the shelf was expired by more than a week. Even the veggies and fruits were moldy and over ripe. Check the expiration dates and take expired products off the shelf Publix! What's even more disappointing? I went to Trader Joe's after to finish my shopping because Publix didn't have everything I need and everything there was a third of the price of what it was at Publix (i.e green pepper at Publix was $3 and it was only $1 at Trader Joe's). read more

And it's absolutely home to the most attractive people in Tampa. The KIDS working there could care less that you are a customer and I've never been given a sample of the meats cut or asked how thick of a slice I wanted. I'm from Illinois where we aren't fortunate enough to have Publix, so whenever I visit Florida, I enjoy shopping at whatever Publix is nearby. Until now. The store itself, albeit small, seems clean and well stocked with a nice variety of products (roasted beef lung tips - really?). My disappointment is in the staff. Every worker I encountered in three visits to this store projected an attitude of "Ugh. I hate working here almost as much as I hate my life". I'm not asking for hugs and high fives, but grimaces and eye rolling from cashiers tells me you really have no concept of creating a welcoming atmosphere that wants to generate repeat customers. This is my favorite Publix, largely because of its comparatively reasonable size and also because it's in my neighborhood and if I feel like a nice walk I can wander over here and grab a few things. It's not close enough to walk to for emergency groceries (read: oh no, I'm halfway through making dinner and I just realized I don't have any eggs!), but that's what my car is for. As others have said, the parking lot can be a terrible horrible no good very bad time, especially on weekend mornings or weekday early evenings, but if you come here a lot you can learn to avoid the insane times or at least know where else you can park. I've had just as much trouble parking at the larger stores I've frequented, so it doesn't concern me that much. But once you're inside, it's wonderful. It's a smaller footprint, so when you forget something from the bakery on one end and you're in the frozen section on the other it doesn't feel like a hassle to go back. They carry everything I need and many things I want as soon as I see them, and in fact there's some stuff I can only find at this Publix, like specific frozen dinners and bakery items. The only thing I sometimes have trouble finding is my favorite sandwich bread, which even fully in stock usually only has three or four loaves hanging around, but it's just bread and they have plenty of other options. Things I love about Publix in general over certain other competitors: BOGO deals, the Deli sandwiches and potato balls, and the amazing selection of single-bottle beer (stored at room temp so I don't have to drink it right away!). I'll go elsewhere if I have to, but Publix is definitely my store. read more

This publix is in a great location right on Bayshore. Parking can be a little tricky sometimes because it can be quite packed but I will usually time my visit to the weeknights on my way home from work so that it isn't usually too much of a problem. Great selection of products available from organic produce to 5$ sushi Wednesday's and a solid wine collection. The bakery and deli are always wonderful. Customer service at publix is always excellent. And I do try to take advantage of their Bogo sales that can be quite a good deal. My one issue is that they have steps to exit and enter the store and only one long ramp on one side of the exit - this can be a little annoying if you are wanting to take a grocery cart full of bags to your car. read more
