When this store was new and for years after it likely could have been the prototypical Publix, which all other stores aspired to be. This place put the former neighboring Winn Dixie out of business. Subsequently things were working too well so they had to change it including a management change. Things got pretty bad for a while. The produce section, which is one of the main reasons I go to Publix was so poorly maintained that there were fruit flies everywhere. Further the deli, prepared foods, seafood counters and all other departments were a poor representation of what they once were.
Today I can honestly say the place has finally recovered. It's still not quite what it used to be but it's far better than it was.
There are a few key employees that know you on sight and couldn't be friendlier. They remember and acknowledge my kids which I like.
Most of the time I'll buy canned goods, dry good, frozen foods, prepackaged foods, household goods and dairy elsewhere because it's cheaper honestly. This is my in town go to for produce, seafood, deli and bakery. Now if I only need a few things then I'll usually stop here.
I'm getting used to the new to me layout which I'm told is now universal throughout the chain.
The Publix branded items are generally just as good as any other brand name product with very few exceptions ((pizza). I like their bogo offers and the fact that you don't have to buy two / you can buy one and pay half price.
I like that they support schools with school cards. I like that they employ people with special needs.
There are a number of redeeming attributes to Publix. I'm glad this one identified and is working on correcting all of the miscues during their interim shabby period.
