Best quality food we have found in Rome so far. Lots of ready to eat, grab and go options.

They can be a tab pricey on some things, but this has to be one of the most friendly and helpful store I've been to in YEARS.

For the longest time, it felt kinda cheesy to check in at Kroger. But what the hey, I noticed this…read moreK-Roger getting some bad press, and I felt like someone needed to speak up for it. These changes are all recent, as Kroger underwent some fairly major remodeling about a year ago. For a few months in the interim, this place was a hot mess. BUT Y'ALL, DADGUM. It was worth it! Kroger now has a VERY impressive collection of sections dedicated to organic produce, artisanal cheeses, sushi (yes, it's that crappy grocery store sushi, but whatever) and other goodies. They also have several lanes dedicated to natural/organic/non-GMO food. IN ROME, GEORGIA. I used to have to trek all the way to Trader Joe's, a 100-mile round trip adventure, in order to get organic food without taking out a loan to handle it. Kroger has brought healthy groceries to a place that sorely needed them, and I for one am seriously on board with that. There's also a Starbucks inside this Kroger. Personally, I think this is sort of dumb. It seems to do good business, but honestly... Starbucks? Inside a grocery store? WHY? If I'm gonna blow 300 calories on a coffee drink, I seriously want to stop, collaborate, and listen to NOTHING but that coffee drink and enjoy every. last. sip. I do not want to gulp it down while I'm dodging kids-run-amok (I know it happens everywhere, but I swear to GAWD it's worse in Rome than anywhere else, these parents just walk into grocery stores and immediately abdicate all responsibility as their curtain climbers wreak havoc. Happens everywhere; worse at Wal-Mart, see below.) Now onto the disclaimers... It is absolutely true that if you spend enough time in this establishment, you're going to encounter some very interesting characters. But hey, y'all, Kroger can't help the fact that they're in Rome and native Romans are a very interesting crowd. The real reality show cast-offs tend to congregate at the West Rome Wal-Mart, though, so as long as you're at Kroger during daylight hours you'll be okay. I've seen some interesting things after hours, though, and don't recommend it. My real peeve, and this isn't the store's fault, is that I have gotten more dings on my car in this parking lot than anywhere else. It never ceases to amaze me that someone will walk all the way across a 200-yard parking lot, unload their groceries, but can't be arsed to push the cart the extra 20 feet to the cart corral. Inevitably, those stray carts are drawn to my bumper. LAZY BONES. Still, it gets four stars because it is clean, the staff is usually friendly (you can only ask so much of teenagers, really) and most of all, Kroger is trying to bring healthy alternatives into a Rome, GA grocery store. For this, I gotta give 'em props.

I shop at Kroger frequently to buy sale items. If you want sale items you have to go the day…read morethey're put on sale or you can forget it. DO NOT go with the intention of using a motorized cart. I have been there many times and had to go from one to another to find one that works. Several times I have gotten one that showed full charge but died in the back of the store. I use pickup if I just want staples but I like to choose my meat and produce. I can walk short distances but often can't walk from the back to the front of the store. I guess I'll no longer be able to go alone.

Yellow onions were on sale according to the label where they were placed . I looked through the bags to make sure I got one with a label, since most were missing. I even had my wife look to be sure everything was correct because of the prior problems with sale items and my eyesight is not as good as it once was. We made our way to the register and like so many sale items over the past, the item rang up for more than the price on the shelf. When we said the price is wrong, the cashier informed us it was Food Lion onions on sale and we could go look for ourselves. The cashier was rude and should have called a manager. The cashier then said we were yelling at her, which we were not, and then told us to leave. I pitched the bags of groceries on the counter. I asked for her name, which she would not provide and we left. We called the manager on duty (Kieth). Kieth never asked for our name or phone number but did keep saying he wanted to make it right. I informed Kieth I didn't want a gift card, I just wanted the pricing corrected. If Food Lion wanted to make it right, the correct price would be charged at the register. The price difference of the onions was less than a dollar. Yes I could have paid that, however it is a continual problem. Think how much money Food Lion profits if each customer is overcharged 1$ per transaction. Is what they do bait and switch? Maybe it's an honest mistake or is it that Food Lion just don't care. My wife and I don't struggle as some when grocery shopping, so I like to look out for customers that do struggle paying. Just remember if you do shop at Food Lion, be sure to check the receipt. Especially when an item is on sale. You may not be getting the deal you think you are.

This being said it's not large grocery store or Box grocery store, so it doesn't have all of that convenience behind it which means the prices are a little bit higher than you would expect but that's because it's a unincorporated grocery store and if you don't understand what unincorporated means is it means it is not a corporately owned or operated store it is owned by a family and if you like shopping Family owned and are local to the Shannon area then this is the store for you. So I recommend it if you're in a real quick need for some groceries.
