Flounder fillet with crabmeat stuffing ready foe the oven
    Celena F.

My favorite Publix in the area due to the great selection of fresh seafood available. I pass at least 4 Publix store on my way home to get to this specifixc location. They keep a great variety of oven-ready seafood dinners in stock to grab and go for quick meal preparation or for folks like me who want a variety, but no time to experiment. Tonight the menu will be flounder fillet with crabmeat stuffing. 25-30 minutes and dinner is ready! Cashiers are staff have always been friendly during each visit. Fast service too so I'm in and out in minutes.

Delicious chicken tenders with the essential buffalo dipping sauce.

Publix reigns supreme around the Lake County region - at least in my opinion. It has everything you want in a grocery store. You'll find your fresh produce, meats, dairies, and your aisle goods. Yes - you can find some of these things in other grocery stores (the quality being a different conversation altogether). But the main reason why Publix wears the grocery store crown is its deli section. Publix subs and chicken tenders - Need I say more? Publix subs are always some of the freshest and heartiest sandwiches around. I even feel rather healthy after eating it, especially with all the fresh vegetables they pile on to it. Besides the Publix subs, the chicken tenders are to die for as well! Often, I don't have the time to prepare dinner nor feel like it after a long day at work. What do I do? Grab a pound of chicken tenders from Publix. Super filling and you can get a free dipping sauce to go with it once the weight exceeds 1 pound. Oh, I forgot to mention that Publix takes special orders at the seafood and meat sections for no additional price. I ordered a dozen raw oysters and they gave a call when they were ready for pick up. Seriously awesome service.

Dinosaur Cake and free Smash Cake for your little ones to fill their chubby cheeks with.

I found everything I needed without having to go on a time consuming search of the store and found a check-out line that had only a few customers ahead of me with a very friendly checker that greeted me with a smile and asked me if I had found everything okay and thanked me for stopping and wished me a good day. Here's a review that is long, long, long overdue. I have been to many Walmarts in my life, and this…read moreone is one of the worst. Where to begin? Lets start with the parking lot. The parking lot is downright scary. The traffic in and out of the lot is nuts, the folks perpetually hanging out in the lot look rough, and it's hard to decide where in the lot to park because the staff is constantly locking entrances to the store without warning. The back entrance (lawn and garden) is often locked way sooner than it should be, and the same is true for the home goods section. God forbid you park at the wrong entrance at the wrong time, and you'll be doing a TON of walking. Once you walk into the store, you'll immediately be sorry that you did. The city of Mt Dora is a charming, historic town known for it's quaint shops, gorgeous downtown, arts and crafts festival, etc. However, you wouldn't know that by walking into this Walmart. It's crammed packed full of rude, miserable looking patrons and employees. It's almost always crowded, and folks here will straight up run you over if you don't get out of their way. Ill-mannered doesn't even begin to describe it. Yes, they've shut down most of their self checkout registers, but they've done so without hiring the necessary staff to adequately deal with demand. So good luck checking out in a reasonable amount of time. The clearance section at this location is also terrible. Often they only mark the items down a few pennies, or the items in this section aren't even priced. The collectibles section near electronics never gets anything new in stock. It's a barren wasteland. They had a deal going on a Walmart+ subscription. We signed up (rewarding bad behavior, I realize) just so that we can get groceries delivered right to our door, and never have to step foot inside this location again. It's that bad. Most of the other stores in Mt Dora are actually quite lovely. I'll never understand why this store is so much worse than the rest of Mt Dora's establishments.

Winn-Dixie - Wish I could get these in NY grocery stores

They encourage mask wearing but of course you have the usual percentage who can't be bothered (it won't happen to me syndrome) and they encourage distancing and have plexiglass at the registers. We do most of our shopping at Aldi's for the prices, but we go to Winn-Dixie regularly for their variety of items. I like their produce also and the strawberry rhubarb pies in the bakery! I will say, however, that a friend told me she goes to her Publix at 7 a.m. on weekends to to avoid lines, but when I tried it at this Winn-Dixie, they were restocking and out of nearly every item I was looking for, and not popular pandemic related stuff either. But we stopped shopping at Publix some time ago, so I just go to Winn-Dixie at normal times now.

When we asked him for 3 salmon filets he really turned on the charm and rolled his eyes at us. I can only assume the woman at the checkout was a relative, because she was just as gleeful barking out to a woman in line how to enter in her Winn Dixie #; only to say "you're not doing it right, just tell me the number." DON'T EVEN THINK OF WALKING INTO THIS PLACE.

Save A Lot - WOW! It's come down to this? .25 cents for carts!

The cashier lines move slowly at times, but I suspect that is due to customers more than cashiers: the customers who don't look for their credit card until they are told the total, or who need remedial training in using their card, or perhaps have to dig deep into their chamber of horrors purse to excavate for couch coins. I was told this branch used to have the same 25 cent system to use the shopping carts as Aldi's, but they had to end it as customers didn't appreciate having to spend a quarter to take their cart off-site and ditch it near their homes. Or something like that. Anyway, mostly I shop at Aldi's for the lower prices, but we buy some items here either because we can't find it elsewhere or because it is on sale.

The buttermilk spilled onto my clothing and into my hair and onto my skin. I think the product was tampered with. I think it was done by someone facing the product as it was seated on the refrigerator shelf. It was only when the Save A Lot supervisor or manager, came over did we discover it was a fine slit on the carton front. When the carton was seated it didn't leak and the slit was not observable until the carton was lifted and then the internal pressure from the milk caused it to open. A stock person would have had to lift it to the top shelf and place it onto the shelf and if it were slit it would have leaked then. So I do not think a stock person placed this item with this leak on the shelf. I think the store response to a customer who is covered in buttermilk, could have been better. I was given a towel of unknown origin to wipe the milk off. I had to go home wash my hair, shower and change clothes as I smelled like buttermilk and my top was visibly wet. Otherwise I have not have any issues with this store, it has good products and prices and it is clean.
