I'm still crying as I type this, I have never been so humiliated. We've been shopping at Publix for three decades, and I knew Carol Barnett personally, but I will never again return to THIS location-despite the sincere apologies from the very kind store manager, and a very sympathetic CSR Savannah - because ONE rotten apple employee. After a fabulous afternoon birthday tea with friends, I popped into Publix Waynesville. The lines were long, so I opted for self-checkout. Packing bags , I was admittedly slow and deliberate as I am not good at "bagging". I also looked to note that items were being rung up properly (ex. BOGO) so it probably took me about 5 minutes to ring up a full trolley of goods and pack them. As I was placing the receipt into my purse and preparing to vacate the spot, an employee came up and loudly announced that she "did not see me ring up my paper towels" and demanded the receipt. This is something that she HAS THE TECHNOLOGY to check without uttering a word to me. It was an obvious attempt at public humiliation (why?). Several people put their head on a swivel to see the drama of someone loudly being accused of shoplifting paper towels. I wanted to crawl under the register and die, but I could only manage to hand her the receipt and put my head down. After the employee saw her obvious mistake, she only said "okay, thank you" and handed me the receipt back. I asked the monitor standing nearby "why" she did that, to which she gave no reasonable explanation. I barely made it to my vehicle before I broke out in tears and phoned my husband, who instructed me to return all the groceries immediately. I will give credit where credit is due and say that both CSR Savannah and the store manager on duty were very sympathetic and understood how, in this very small town, this would be utterly humiliating. They apologised profusely and the manager even offered to walk me and my groceries (that I didn't return) back to my vehicle. Regardless, the embarrassement of being falsely accused in such a way as to shame me publicly - when I did absolutely nothing wrong, has forever ruined shopping at the Waynesville Publix. Thankfully, I still have all the Sarasota Publix locations. read more

Not a full shop, but I did a solid deli shop and picked up a few things that went into the fridge in the van for the journey home. I figured I would give this Publix a try since I'm already pleased with the ones a little further east in Charlotte. The experience was similar with great quality, a really clean store, shopping carts with four working wheels and friendly associates. Yes, the prices are higher here than at the local Walmart but I find the shopping experience is much improved. That said, a box of Kellogg's Corn Flakes is nearly half the price at Walmart. There is none around where I live so I had to stop by and get my dogs some treats I got them in the Florida store. Freeze dried snacks they love them. Very happy they had them here too!! This store was beautiful, well kept, clean and a pleasure to walk around.. Picked up a few other things too while walking around. My husband and I shop here often. We always have a good experience except for today. We stopped by the pharmacy to pick up some syringes for my cat who has diabetes. We didn't mind waiting while the prescription was verified but we did take exception with the attitude we were given by the Pharmacy person. She was very condescending. We haven't done much business with the pharmacy previously because we usually go to CVS. I think we will go back to using CVS. I do not wish to ever cross paths with this person again. What an amazing place to shop! Not only to I enjoy the easy to use app where I can clip all of the amazing coupons! But the food they have available is amazing. This is the first time having a pub sub and it was so good! The person whom helped me was amazing and was eager to find the perfect ingredients! My friend suggested that I pick one up before boarding my flights back to Portland, OR, and I'm so glad she did. The veggie sandwich, which is conveniently cut and wrapped in two halves, kept me full on my 11-hour journey home. I placed an order on the Publix delivery app for pickup. Promptly Jeremy started my order. So quickly in fact, I didn't even have time to finish selecting substitutions for items if they were out. The first item shopped only had one available and before I could confirm with Jeremy that his replacements were satisfactory, he had finished shopping my 117 item order. I sat in amazement at the speed and proficiency with which Jeremy must have skillfully navigated such a large store for such a large order. In awe I envisioned Jeremy storming the aisles like a Marine storming the beach at Normandy! A snarling one man invasionary force, crashing the aisles snarling, teeth clenching a kabar combat knife as he raced his cart along, shoving old ladies aside, tossing kids in the air, a man on a mission with a drive like no other, a need to succeed, as if his very life depended on it! He must have known that I was relying on him and he alone to secure the provisions I needed to craft a batch of Split-pea and ham soup! He made it his mission to transverse the DMZ, avoid the enemy (Karens hogging the whole aisle) and complete the objective! He understood the assignment! Victory was his on this day, 1 January, 2024. It had been a few years since I visited a Publix. I used to live in an area whrre they were prevalent and they were my choice of grocers. They have not changed. When you walk is new walk in it feels open and clean. I will highlight a few sections of the store that are wonderful to stop by. The Bakery - fantastic! You can pick up a last minute sweet or order one of their delicious cakes. I suggest the Strawberry Dulce De Leche cake. Wine- Wide selection and they have chillers to chill to the correct temp while you shop. Seafood- I have always found the selections to be vast and fresh. If they have their stuffed salmon. It is. I would like to express my tremendous gratitude to this Publics location 1830 Hendersonville rd. I misplaced my wallet, while shopping. Came home completely freaking out and having not a slightest idea where it might have been lost. An associate picked it up and went to look for me in the social media, sent me a private message and told me not to worry, that my wallet was at the customer service desk. When I arrived, there already was a different person, she didn't know who the associate was (who found my wallet), she said maybe their name was IREN, IRENE, Aren , I wish a knew their nam, so at least I could express my gratitude! We've always been preferred Publix shoppers. Once again, another wonderful store. Mostly. As for the Deli. That's a different story. This particular worker is not helpful. She is visibly annoyed and disrespectful to us. (We make a conscientious effort to be polite) This is becoming a recurring theme. The latest incident happened Saturday, May 21, 2022 at around 11:30am. We had planned on making an order if needed to, then go and shop for groceries before returning to pick up chicken wings. We became so frustrated with the deli service that we left the store all-together. We enjoy the deli-food but we just can't deal with this particular "worker" at the deli. We understand people have bad days - but this has been a constant issue with the same person. We know what experience we are going to get when we see her working. I really do not enjoy posting this. We needed some snacks and this Publix was close to our Airbnb. It was fairly quick to get in and out. I got what we needed. I am more familiar with Krogers, and I was a little lost looking for a store brand of the crunchy snacks we wanted, and I literally could not find any! I am absolutely not a brand-whore, but I was taken back that there wasn't a generic brand. Oh Publix how I love you. Growing up in South Florida, Publix was always around. And while I do appreciate the others, none really compare to Publix quality. My only complaint, which happens to be a big one for my tree hugging self, is the amount of plastic they use! Plastic, on plastic, on plastic. I'm fine with those little plastic boxes but this is another level. I got some baked goods in a bag, then those were individually wrapped in plastic. When did they start doing this? I know this has been going on before COVID because I asked the lady working the bakery. A lot of the produce was wrapped in plastic too. The broccoli and peppers were all plastic shrink wrapped. I grabbed a few things that I can only get at publix and decided to finish my shopping somewhere else. I drove almost and hour round trip just to shop here so I was a little disappointed, but that's life sometimes. Hopefully others will feel similar and say something so that good ole Publix can make some better choices for the environment! Let's make shopping a pleasure again please! I have good reason for hating trips to the grocery store but this Publix might have just changed my whole perspective when it comes to grocery shopping. I had become accustomed to grocery stores that are always chaotic and exhausting. I simply resorted to avoiding them as much as possible for as long as possible. From what I gathered from my walk through this particular Publix and talking to some of the friendliest employees on the planet is that this Publix is actually less than 2 years old. By all accounts, it's still brand new. From the outside, it looks like most of the Publix stores I've seen everywhere else. There's plenty of parking and I don't recall seeing shopping carts littering up the outside. As a visitor to Asheville, I was only popping in to pick up a few items but once inside, I was completely shocked and awed by the serenity, cleanliness and positive energy in this place, of all places, a grocery store. To the point, we were looking for wine and beer. The varieties of beer and wine selections was very impressive. Somehow I ended up with a giant size can of cashew nuts, sunflower seeds and I tried but could not resist a snicker's creme filled doughnut from the bakery. How good was that doughnut, you asked? Well, so good that I forgot to take a picture to share it with you. I don't know all there is to know about this store but I do know how it made me feel. Let's just say I was a lot less prone to raging against humanity after leaving this Publix. Somehow this Publix seems to be offering it's customers an entire food experience and not just another trip to the grocery store. Offering everything from Deli to Sushi, the hot bar and beyond, it looks like they thought of everything. The day I was there, the Hot Bar had fried rice, sweet and sour chicken, lo-mein and a few other items. Sushi lovers will appreciate that the sushi is made fresh daily. I can imagine this works well with locals during the week as it did with me an alternative place to pick up some lunch instead of eating at the usual restaurant chains. Bravo, tip of the hat and applause to this store's management team and the employees of Publix. Well done! You really left me feeling some type of way. Wait! Even though I live in East Asheville, I always go out of my way to visit Publix when I have a craving for a delicious sub sandwich or if I need any baked goods. I find their prepared foods and baked goods to be far superior and of better quality than Ingles and Walmart. Always great, friendly service! read more

When I was growing up we spent winters in the Tampa Bay area and Publix was our supermarket of choice, so I was pleased to see Publix opening in Asheville and expanding in NC. It's not particularly convenient for us, but we trekked to Hendersonville Road yesterday to check it out. I appreciate that this was opening weekend and that the store was busier than it normally would be, plus there seemed to be scores of extra Publix employees on hand, a couple on every aisle, plus food tastings, which made it harder to get around. Having said that, I wasn't as impressed with the store as I had expected to be. Regular prices on most items that we buy frequently were generally a little higher than at Ingles or Harris-Teeter and in some cases higher than at Fresh Market and Greenlife. Some of the sales were good, and I like the fact that you don't have to have a loyalty card, which I think is a stupid idea from the consumer's point of view. The store layout is okay -- apparently this is a new design that is one of only four such layouts in the chain -- but I thought the aisles are too narrow. Newer Ingles stores and Harris-Teeter have wider aisles. Parking seemed adequate and employees were super-friendly. One disappointment was the Cuban bread. Growing up in Florida Cuban bread was everywhere -- it was the French bread of Tampa Bay. Publix's Cuban bread looked good, and tasted good on their toasted Cuban sandwich, but the inside of the loaf we bought looked and tasted like 1960s white Wonder Bread. The store does have a lot of take-out food sections -- deli, salad, hot bar, grab and go, etc. -- and the butcher shop and seafood section looked good, though with the crowd on the day we visited it was hard to compare what they offer with the Fresh Market and other stores. The wine department seemed pretty large, but prices on bottles I'm familiar with were higher than at most competitors and certainly Trader Joe's. The bakery didn't knock me out and didn't seem to have anything that a half dozen other groceries in town have. All in all, I'm happy to have a Publix here, wish them well and hope they open more stores around the city, but right now I won't be making the trek to Hendersonville Road on a regular basis, because so far as I can see it doesn't offer any true differential advantage over our old standbys. We'll stick with the new Harris-Teeter as our #1 choice, Trader Joe's for the deals, Fresh Market on Merrimon for meats and specialty items, Greenlife for nostalgia for what it used to be and probably when it opens the new Ingles in Enka (some of the Ingles stores here are badly in need of rehabbing, with exceptions like Ingles on Merrimon and the one on Tunnel Road, which is almost TOO big.) read more

Not sure what is going on here. 3 days ago used app to order deli sandwiches. Arrived on time to pick up. No sandwich in pick up spot. 2 tired looking young men we're making sandwiches. Line 3 deep. No on acknowledged me. 20 minutes after my pickup time I went over and asked about my order. They said they would start now. Order still ended up wrong and 30 minutes late. Today I went in to pick up chicken salad and the clerk said we're out but can make some. Give her 15 minutes. I came back and picked up. Looked bad. How do you run out at 1:30 on a Monday? I don't know if you can fall in love with a grocery store, but I'm smitten with Publix. I came from the frozen north and had never been to a Publix before when my husband and I were driving down Hendersonville Road one night. I'm always in the need of some groceries and we'd heard good things about Publix. It was a Monday evening (which is my favorite day to grocery shop) which means there was hardly anyone in the store. I was first in line at the deli (there was no line at the deli). The guy helping me was super nice and the free samples were great. Everyone working there was in a happy mood and more than willing to help. The extra perk of having the bagger walk you to your car and put the groceries in your trunk was great! I mean, I had my husband with me so it wasn't needed, but that's lovely service! I can think of many situations where people would be grateful for the assistance. We've been back 3 times since and every time has been great. They didn't sell Wheat Bran and they offered to order it in for me. How awesome is that? I never knew you could special order things. We live over in West Asheville, so this isn't exactly close to me, but it's worth the drive because they hire nice people, which is a good enough reason to me to make the journey. read more

I visited the "new" Publix for the first time this last weekend. It filled the giant hole that was in my heart since moving here from Central FL almost 2 years ago. I was desperate to find a way to cut down on my grocery bill. Trader Joe's is great, but their store and parking lot are too small to accommodation the crowds they draw, and they have very limited selection. I went through Publix's website where you can create an account for electronic coupons that you can use right at the register by entering your phone number. you can also browse their weekly flyer right on the site. I used these resources all the time when I used to grocery shop for the week in FL. I honed in on the BOGO specials and i saved probably about $60 from what I would have paid at Harris Teeter or Ingles. For example - the catfood I normally buy at the other stores runs me $15-18 per 3 lb back. Publix had it for $9!!!! This store is so clean and has an amazing deli, cafe, bakery, fresh produce section, and you can't talk about Publix without mentioning the SUBS! It's a wonderful Publix with great savings. The employees where exactly what I remembered, kind and eager to help. Definitely check out Publix and utilize their website to organize your savings. It is definitely worth the trip! Don't order the chicken cordon blu it is not what you get. None of the subs are what you see on the website. Store was clean, but when I asked costumer service for a roll of quarters they said they didn't have any. The next lady that asked was given a roll. This is the best Publix I've ever been to! Clean, lots of great food options, but also...they have ice cream!!!!!! I ordered some and paid, and walked around the store eating it. So delicious! I'm here visiting from Central FL, so I'll admit, I am a bit predisposed to enjoy the whole Publix experience. That being said, the layout of this store is completely foreign to me, but it was fun to sort of "fall in love again" with this Publix. Staff here is some of the most genuinely friendly I have encountered in all of the Publix chain. Everyone was really warm and friendly: one man at the deli counter talked to me about my time in SoCal (he noticed my sweatshirt) and I got to compare children's book tattoos with a cashier: both experiences addressed me as a person and not just a purchaser of grocery items. The selection here is comparable to my home store in Central Florida, but with the exception of selection in the prepared food area. The sushi, hot bar, and cafe really escalate this store to a shopping experience more than just a grocery store. They actually had a section in the bakery where they cut open an Ingles cake and a Publix cake to show the difference in the cross-section, and if asked, they would let you sample both to compare them. I think it's a nice addition to the up-and-coming South Asheville and I hope they continue to set high standards for their service! read more

So I live in Sylva NC and I travel to Asheville just to go to certain restaurants and of course to got to Publix. I am never disappointed when I go there. It's always clean and the food is always good. I go there mainly to buy bread. I love their baguettes. I always buy 5 to 10 loaves at a time. I take them home and freeze them. I also like that they have specialty foods. I always experiment at home making things and Publix always has the items I need. I also like the fact I could use the internet in the store so I could read off the menu items I need. They have the best sub sandwiches and I always get one when I'm there. Cuban or Italian are my choices. I top it off with a cannoli and a cup of coffee. Good stuff. But there is one thing I'm missing and that is Aqua Star frozen calamari. The have calamari in the seafood counter but it's a little too small. When you cook them they shrink up to nothing. They have Aqua Star seafood blend but not the calamari. The blend is good but has no teniciles. I love the teniciles. So I wrote to Publix and maybe they will get them and let me know. I'll be waiting and still shop a Publix. read more
