Why don't you change your weekly specials? It's the same items every single week with zero variety. Also, your so-called grass-fed beef is not organic--it comes from Brazil. Grass-fed does not mean organic, and it's misleading to suggest otherwise. There are a few good areas in the store. The produce and bulk items are solid, and the meat department can be helpful at times. But the bakery is awful, and the deli section is just as bad. The service I encountered was quite indifferent; I stopped in late in the day but still a half hour or so before closing and everyone was already kind of checked out, registers being closed, not much fresh food out. The options were intriguing but the beverages I purchased were a bit much even on sale. Price gauging in the butcher. A few months ago was the best butcher in Asheville and I one of the worst with selection and price now.

Worst customer service ever!!! The woman with black and red braids checking me out never said hello or even smiled. When I told her I had brought some bags she just gave me an icy stare and said nothing. Then, instead of helping me bag my groceries, she went to the next register to help someone else. When she came back she gave me my receipt and with me still having unpacked groceries left, rang up the next person, so that now he's standing there in front of the payment area and I cannot even get to the rest of my groceries. I finally had to hand her a bag and ask her to help me. I'm not at all sure it would have occurred to her otherwise. Although this store is the closest one to where I live, combined with the absurdly high prices, I'm not sure I can stand to go back there. I've spent thousands of dollars there over the years but I don't need to face hostility and be made to feel like a piece of crap on the bottom of someone's shoe just because I dared to pay lots of money for food. I'm really liking my local earth Fare! I never lived in an area with one of these before and I've been making it a habit to come here almost weekly after the gym. Since Target quit selling Chocolate Ripple this place has become my new Chocolate Ripple connection. The prices here can be a little high but they have sales and special offers that can be pretty substantial. I bought a huge watermelon here a few weeks ago for 4.99! Today I bought two Vegan pizzas made with Oat cream for 4.95 a piece. The Full Fat and Original Oatley were on sale too which brought them down to a reasonable price (for this year). They have dried food bins just like Whole Foods with some things I can't find at the local Whole Foods lately like French Lentils. The fresh bread here is very good too. I got some organic firm tofu today too for a price that was just as good or better than Trader's. I like the scale and proximity of this store. It's definitely worth checking out especially if you are a green wise or Vegan or Vegetarian eater. read more

Good for certain things but you should avoid buying the milk in bottles here. I brought back a few empties and the cashier gave me this sour look and called over the manager to enter a code and she was even more sour. I'll absolutely take Earth Fare over supporting Amazon/Whole Foods any day. They carry and highlight locally made brands, offer reverse osmosis water refills, and have a decent body/medicine/bulk section/apothecary department. However, I have mixed feelings about Earth Fare; they're not very eco-conscious, pay below a living wage, and corporate management is completely unresponsive. And don't bother contacting the company for anything - they just ignore emails. For instance, they have great deals on grass-fed meat, but it comes from Australia. Their butcher counter will also automatically put everything in plastic, which is totally unnecessary - meat is just fine wrapped in butcher paper! Most of the vegetables are sourced from non-local farms and the quality isn't that great; it's a missed opportunity that Earth Fare doesn't use their size and power to support local farms. That would be an amazing way to distinguish themselves from WF. A fair amount of the employees here look and act miserable which I'm sure has a lot to do with the fact that they don't get paid enough. They do somehow have a handful of really exceptional, friendly, helpful, and personable employees who are such a pleasure to interact with. My first time shopping here and I was pleasantly surprised! The deli section in particular was great; 4 different types of chicken salad (!!) and lots of yummy veggie salads. I don't understand what's going on with these other reviewers, but from my experience & many years of shopping here, earthfare is an amazing place to shop for groceries and is leagues above Whole Foods in their corporate structure. The atmosphere by far is the best part about shopping here. On the weekends they have live local music playing outside (which is fully supported and paid for by the higher ups, they have a schedule given out and everything), and on some days they have live music in the cafeteria. Every time I walk in here I just feel like a welcome part of the community. Those who work in the deli, stocking, wellness, grocery, smoothie bars, and produce are amazing people to talk to and are always super kind to me. ESPECIALLY the managers, like peaches. Overall, a laid back and hippie vibe, typical Asheville. Customer service is supportive and helpful most of the time, but sometimes they hang up (and when I asked them about this they said that cashiers are new and don't know how to use the phone, so it's pretty self explanatory). One time I asked if they had an item in stock and the phone line-holding wasn't working so they called me back and gave me an in-depth explanation of everything they had on the shelves that I could get. They also have started using boxes instead of bags for customers who don't want to use paper bags, which I just find amazing. Personally, I prefer the salad bar to the hot bar for health reasons, and the selection they have at the salad bar is entirely organic and absolutely delicious. They have an entire room dedicated solely to health and wellness products, supplements, vitamins, soaps, shampoos, etc., and this is very impressive, especially compared to other stores here in the Asheville area. It seems like the new front-end managers have changed what cons the store had in the past and are now on a better path forward. read more

I come here at least once a week and have done that for at least 7 years. Of course there was a period when the store was shut down, and obviously I didn't go then. Anyway, I am not a hippy or any other kind of stoner--see other reviews--and this is my favorite grocery store. I had to write a review after seeing all these bizarre, awful reviews. Everyone who works here is super kind, helpful, friendly, smart...just lovely people! The store is clean, pretty, well-stocked, and big enough without being a monstrous warehouse. The prices are as good as you're gonna get for organic food these days. The sushi is fresh and tasty. And one of the best parts: NO SELF-CHECKOUT. If you are pro-human, you ought never use self-checkout. These corporate sociopaths are making bank phasing out human interaction, making customers work for them, recording customers' faces, weighing our bags and all this insane dehumanizing stuff (looking at you, Aldi, Ingles, CVS, Walgreens, Walmart, Target, Whole Foods, etc). I love this place! I moved here from Atlanta not too long ago and it is a bulk/plastic free heaven. They have so much to offer, I wish there had been more places like this back in Atlanta. I will say, they mark up the prices on some brands/packaged goods compared to other stores so I tend to try and just get bulk items here but so far the bulk items haven't seemed to get too expensive. They also let you tear your jars without putting any stickers on them, double yay! I've always had great service, I would just say there main down side is the brands they mark up in comparison to stores like Ingles. read more

Every time I give this store a chance I regret it. The selection is just okay, but the people who work here are just always so moody and disrespectful. My partner was going to use the bathroom, and the girl cut them off to go clean it for 10 minutes when she hadn't touched the other bathroom because she was "on a tight schedule." Two hours to close btw, and just 5 minutes prior she was skipping up and down the aisles with her pink headphones in singing to herself. I am so disappointed in the store. I paid for $37 worth of groceries and had an emergency with my son. I told the customer service rep that i needed to run out to the car and will come right back for my groceries. Unfortunately I had to run home and it was after 5 pm. My son is potty training and didnt want to go to the bathroom in the store nor in the portable potty in the car. I called the store and told them I would be back to pick up the groceries the next day. Next day is here and they had me waiting for over 30 mins with two kids under 3 years old to find my groceries. It was never found. The customer service rep LIED and said that they voided the transaction. I never got refunded for the groceries and I had my receipt in the my bag. Lets add that whoever took my groceries also took my $10 reusable bag. Lets add that customer service is crap and the quality of the food has gone down the drain. I went to pick up pizza for my kids and the crust is literally see through and there is NO F****** sauce on it. Look at my reviews. Good all-around healthy market with mostly organic options. Huge bakery and deli section, self-service cafe with plenty of seating and bathrooms nearby. Prices are as high as they can be with occasional sales and deals. Earn points towards future credits on purchases. Nice local folks work here. I went to manager who merely shrugged and told me that she could do nothing. I find it hard to believe that a manager would not be able or even willing to try to to "key in" an override. The store, the selection and the food here are pretty good, but, as other's have stated, the employees suck. Typically the cashiers. I've been here about a dozen times and about 80% of the time I get the cashier who REFUSES to bag. Listen, I don't need special assistance or feel I deserve special treatment, nor do I mean that I need them to bag it all for me, however, when I am by myself, have 2 kids to attend to and don't get ANY help bagging, that is just ridiculous. But it's even worse than that. While I am busting my a** to do all this, the cashiers LITERALLY fidget or twiddle their thumbs, stare at me, or chit chat with someone else, waiting for me to finish. Not even an attempt to assist! Just a look like, "F you, when are you going to get out of the way?". Not a finger is lifted to help. It's completely unacceptable. I would never treat anyone like that at my job, ESPECIALLY A CUSTOMER! What kind of management thinks that this is OK?! It is about as rude as you can get. read more

Since my posting I haven't received any reply from Earthfare or the store managers. Let me preface this by saying I have literally never written a bad review. On anything. Anywhere. Ever. I'm a pretty humble guy and I've always been super conscious of ever coming forth as entitled. But I had a pretty upsetting experience here today. I was meeting someone at the cafe area to sign some paperwork. I was early so I figured I'd pick up some groceries. Unfortunately due to the train wreck of a checkout area, it took quite a bit longer than one would anticipate. (Side note - if your employees need to navigate the mess that is the checkout lanes, "excuse me" has a better ring than "I need to get through". Sorry to inconvenience you, dude. I was under the impression the crazy wait and cluttered lines were more of a "you" thing than an "us" thing). My 3 year old son was getting fussy for sure. But it's a loud grocery store on a busy Sunday so I didn't think much of it. Anyways, after checking out, I met my associate in the cafe. Yes, my son was still being obnoxious but I couldn't see how it would effect anyone else. I literally was there for 5 minutes before the woman behind the cafe counter told me that I need to "give him a snack or something because he's disturbing other customers". Now, I'm pretty good at reading a room and I'm the first to get my boy out of the mix if it is an obvious disruption. I've never been asked to leave any establishment before mostly due to the fact that I'm always trying to be wary to avoid any disruption before it happens. I can't imagine who my son was "disturbing" as the cafe area was pretty vacant. I had already noticed the employee shooting dirty looks at my son so I'd be comfortable in coming to the conclusion that the "disturbed" party may have very well been her. Further solidifying this conclusion was the fact that two separate customers in the vicinity told me how out of line they thought she was. Again, my son is a bit crazy sometimes, but he is three year old boy. If it wasn't clear that I had been proactively tending to his meltdown, I might cut y'all some slack. But anyone with any sense of empathy could see that I was a stressed out single dad trying his best to take care of what I had to take care of with minimal disruption. I've seen couples letting kids, dogs, etc run amok in many businesses around town without being chastised. And at this location there never is a shortage of panhandlers hitting me up for change. And hey, I'm not anti panhandling at all. But looking at it from a sense of perspective, it's pretty mind blowing that your employees seem to be more worried about a crying kid than their customers being solicited on their property. So I don't particularly respect the route your employee took today. Not cool and not kind. read more

What is going on with the meat department?! I love Earth Fare, but Ive noticed recently and more increasingly with every visit that this particular store smells like rotting meat. The smell was at first specific to the back of the store where the meat department is, but is now penetrating the front of the store when you walk in as well. Since I couldn't find a place to message Earth Fare directly, I'm forced to leave it here. Earth Fare, please fix this! The store gets five stars from me, whereas the hot bar/dining area gets just three. For upscale/natural grocery, this is the best. The staff seems to always be helpful, available, and motivated, the store has a great selection of interesting and tasty. My fave part is the herb/remedies section. They have a great variety, and the staff there seems to be very knowledgeable, and not hedge when you ask for specific solutions. I really like their bulk selections, both in food and remedies, it's the cheapest way to get Giovanni shampoo. The hot bar is sometimes good, but just as often has food that's just been out too long. The selection is nice, though. Their sushi is surprisingly good, though not stellar. The dining area seems lazily maintained. Bot this location and Hendersonville Road kitchen/demo kitchens have great potential, just needs vision and leadership. read more

Earth Fare used to be a great place to shop, but the current Earth Fare is a sad shadow of its former self. I'm not just talking about janky shopping carts with missing parts or employees that sometimes seem distracted, I'm talking failure to meet basic standards such as: Access to a shopping cart, deli items correctly labelled, advertised items available in the store as advertised, basic standards considered by staff to deserve some level of accountability. When it's repeatedly verified by employees that there are zero fu#ks to give about meeting these basic expectations, you have to wonder about management. Allowing standards to slide at the expense of the customer appears so fully normalized within this business culture that's not just unpleasant, it's kind of a safety concern. I sent an email to the store outlining my experiences, including mislabeled food, and have received no response. So long Earth Fare, I really tried to remain a loyal customer. read more

This is my experience of Earth Fare at the Westgate Shopping Plaza in Asheville. The guy at the café food prep counter was just apathetically rude. I ordered ready-to-go pizza by the slice. I was left to stand there, not knowing where to check out or where the tables were to eat it. I was the only customer there. He stood there staring at me, like he was sort of challenging me to be verbally rude first. He's acting cocky and he's got his chest stuck out. I'm thinking WTF all I wanted was some pizza, not his challenge statements. I had to pry both concerns out of him, of where to pay and where to sit. I don't know but maybe he didn't want to serve me or anyone. I don't know. There's nothing telling you were to pay, and you're the idiot for not knowing that it was 40 feet away and around the counter in the other room. It was not like buffet style, where you just follow the counter with your tray. So I sit down at the cleanest booth available, half a table that was cleaned off in a dirty greasy food scraps booth. The cafe wasn't busy. Employees in the deli and café area are just slack a$$ everywhere and really can't be bothered. That's the mood of the place. I look around and it's just grimy everywhere. Everywhere. The napkin dispensers, the counters, everywhere. The pizza slice is cold. The toppings on my pizza slice just slide off and the crust was as thin and soggy as a wet flour tortilla. The crust wasn't cooked. I roll the slice up like a burrito to eat it because it's too rubbery to cut it with a fork. I eat it anyway, and when I'm done I look for the place to take my plastic plate to. Nowhere in sight. So I just leave the plate at the booth, because they're not paying me to figure their situation out. The place just has a worn out, dirty, low-lit, creepy vibe. Just a place that's hard to feel welcome at. So I go to the nutritional supplements area, which is why I went there in the first place. The lady there was very kind and helpful. She was really knowledgeable and nice. I go to the main check out at the front of the store. Now the place is busy all at once. Three lanes open, people backed up to the aisles. Luckily I had just 4 people in front of me with just a handful of purchases each, yet I waited and waited and waited. Finally the first transaction was almost done, but not quite. You would think I had three full grocery carts in front of me. Finally I just put my bottle of herbal supplement down and just walked out. Outside there's weirdos outside the front door trying to sell crap, and a poverty-stricken looking busker singing and playing guitar, amplified so loud that it feels like weird pressure to drop dollars in her hat. She will not be ignored. It seemed desperate. She actually had a nice voice and it seemed like such a shame that she ended up there. I just wanted to leave. Asheville has too many health food stores to shop at, with better prices and with a better overall experience. I just went to this one because it was along the way of my other errands. It's close to home, actually, but I would rather fight traffic to shop at some other store on the other side of town. read more

Pretty much in the same boat as a fresh market. You have your groceries plus other items such as prepared foods. Pretty nice selection of items that you wouldn't find everywhere else albeit a little more pricey than your average supermarket. Came here looking for plantains (which they didn't have) however ended up getting a few other items. They do carry the pistachio Halo Top ice cream which automatically makes them A-OK in my book. read more
