I rented a 24-hour access unit at the Public Storate location at 12716 W 63rd Street in Shawnee Kansas at the end of March 2026. Marcia informed me that I could use the lock I'd used at a previous storage facility - not necessary that I use the lock provided by Public Storage for a fee. I moved approximately $2,000 worth of power tools into that storage locker within a couple of days of renting it and secured the door with the lock I possessed. A week later I returned to place more items in the locker. My lock had been drilled through and all my power tools removed. The attendant's comment: "You should have used one of our locks. They have added protections." So, my items were not secure for even a week. I wouldn't recommend anyone plan on storing their belongings at this location. Fortunately - or so I thought - I had retained PS's insurance on the unit - up to $5,000. Shouldn't have a problem, right? Well, now their insurance company is requiring me to provide proof of ownership of each item - receipts, owners manuals, photos, etc. Some were gifts, and several were acquired more than 10 years ago. I couldn't be more frustrated with this situation. I counted on the facility to secure my items. They failed. I then counted on them to make me whole, and they're signaling an unwillingness to do so. Feels like they're hoping to not have to pay and want to make the claim process difficult enough for me that I'll give up and they won't have to. Strongly suggest you avoid this place. You're items will not be safe here, and their insurance will not protect you unless you've kept detailed documentation. read more

I'll start by saying that the on-site staff are AMAZING and this rating isn't a review on them. I would give the ON-SITE MANAGEMENT 5 STARS if this was about them, this review based on company practices which I find predatory. They bring you in with a reasonable rate and within months are raising it well above what was offered. Beware, after rereading my contract they list that they have permission to raise the agreed upon rates at any time they choose which is completely ridiculous. My rates went from $110 to over $210 per month for no reason other than they realize most people are stuck with stuff there they have no room for and they capitalize. I'll never use this company again and warn others to stay away from dealings with them. read more

Started rent at $150.00 per month. 3 months later a letter comes for $250.00 per month. Then $15.00 bucks for insurance. My homeowners covered it. 3 months later rent is $325.00 plus insurance. I got online and the same locker was $107.00 online read more

If I could give ZERO stars I absolutely would!! I was two weeks behind on my payment (It's due same time as rent and Rent is expensive.) The day I made my payment my items were thrown away. I received one phone call the day they threw my things away and I missed the call. I called back hours later and there wasn't an answer. I am a 911 dispatcher, I can not have my phone in the building when I'm at work. I also live and work three hours away in Iowa. I gradually come back and fill my car with items from storage. I spoke with Rob, the district manager, and he said the best they could do is refund me this months payment. In the storage unit, I had items my grandmother knitted. She is no longer alive and I'm not able to get those items back. It is frustrating that I'm not able to be reimbursed for the items thrown away. There should've been more than one attempt to contact me. I called multiple times on multiple days with no answer. I should've been emailed or event sent a letter in the mail. I WAS ONLY TWO WEEKS LATE!! Rent with this place if you want to lose all of your valuable items. read more

Disappointing service so far. By now, you'd think PS had caught on that most, if not all, its consumer base are people who are moving. And I don't know about you, but moving is stressful for most people. Unfortunately, today's world adds an extra stressor - like involuntary or forced relocation. Long story short - I'm stressed because of moving. And I'm moving because I can't afford my house anymore. PS is where I'm storing my belongings until I find a place. The first unit I rented was a joke, although I wasn't laughing. Actually, I was crying. The walls were, literally, stapled together in places. Most of the walls were actually coming apart at the seams. The person storing his or her stuff in the next unit could pull apart the walls, reach through, and steal my stuff. My boyfriend immediately called customer "service" to get a new unit with the original discount we had whilst signing up. He was treated rudely and the problem was unsolved. Worse, we couldn't unload our rented truck because we felt our stuff wasn't safe. Hours later, after a harrowing effort, a nice lady appeared on the other end of the phone. She hooked us up with a different unit at a different location. We thought we had the first 2 months paid at that time. Nope. Wrong again! I opened my account to find I'm already late on rent payment, and one month hasn't even passed. Word of advice to PS: think of your customers first. Stop falsely advertising. Be upfront. The rental and move in process was super simple and convenient. Rental complex is a little on the older side. Units are clean and dry. Outside units there are large items been stored in the drive ways making it less then convenient to get to unit or by others going to their units. Some trash/junk also being stored in driveways or someone was kicked out and did not take their junk. Closing and moving out was not as simple and Public Storage moved the move out date to 11-days later either to charge more or the company could not go and view the unit was empty. If moving out was as simple as moving in and they spent a little on updating the units this would be five stars. read more

While I didn't get the unit that the system told me I would get inside of the gated area, the unit was clean. I am not a fan of the $29.95 fee that is associated with renting a unit that is fairly expensive to begin with. The unit will suffice for what I need it for. read more

I signed up for autopay not realizing that my card would be expiring two months in. Got a call from someone at the unit saying my payment was past due so I told her I would be there the next day to make the payment. She assured me that was fine. I showed up the next day and no one was there all day. It is an hour and a half one way. I tried calling and of course the call went to voicemail. I asked her to return my call which she hasn't done a week later. Today I received an email stating I have a thirty dollar late fee. Poorly run business. read more

Very satisfied. The property manager on duty when we arrived was very knowledgeable, helpful, and had many useful suggestions. She showed us the unit to be sure it would fit our needs. I am very happy with the location, the ease as to getting to my unit, and knowing that my items are secure. I highly recommend! read more

The last three months I've tried to pay my bill in person and there has not been anyone at the property to take my money. I called customer service and let them know that there is no one running the property and they said that they were short-staffed due to covid. I also informed them that the gate by the front door has been broken the person I spoke with from customer service said that they are not responsible for your property. I also pointed out that if the property is not secured then insurance will not pay if something does go wrong. I will be removing my things this week. read more

We didn't have much issue with the site, except it appeared a person was living in one unit. We moved out of our stall and closed our account properly. We are still being charged for some reason. If you are moving from another state, be sure to keep your old driver's license. I can't find my old numbers to access this account and no one can stop the charges or explain without my old driver's license number. Perhaps this will get their attention. We left a message last week and no one has called back. Other calls are transferred to the national number and they say talk to the local office. read more

Location is close and convenient. Easy in and out security code. I did notice some questionable metal debris in the pavement. Hope I don't get a flat tire. Paved gaps between lettered sections where my unit entry is located are pretty tight. Wish it was a little wider so I can pull my truck right up to it. I have used many public storage facilities across the country and have had good service for the most part. This particular facility absolutely sucks! Be careful if sign up for automatic payments. They will cancel and you'll be surprised to find out at the 30day mark that a lien fee is coming. Also watch your unit carefully. They have violated my lease on 2 different occasions. Never again will I goto public storage. read more

HORRIBLE customer service. I called about transferring from my existing unit to a bigger unit and NOT ONE person can help me. I keep being transferred around. I rather just move all of my things from Public Storage than have to deal with anyone from this company again. IF YOU LIKE TO SPEND YOUR DAYS BEING PUT ON HOLD AND BEING TRANSFERED ALL DAY THEN GO AHEAD AN RENT FROM THIS COMPANY. I will NEVER deal with them again. We didn't actually end up using this facility (couldn't, because our military move was done via 18- wheeler, which the setup of this facility can't accommodate), but five stars for customer service via the manager, Taunya. We had booked online and weren't aware of the issue with semis...when we came to preview the unit and mentioned that it was a military move, she quickly clued us into the access issue, and was amazing about lining up another unit for us at a site equipped to handle trucks. Doing some research online to find a storage facility that would fit my need and came upon this public storage ! Went in to this location just to get prices and what not and was helped out by manager Taunya! This lady was super nice knew what she was talking about and she answered all my question since i have never rented a space before, this location is very clean and just all around nice and in a. Nice area but size i needed they did not have at the time , taunya offered take name number so if one opened she would call but was needing it it right away she actually found a public storage location to her with the size i needed and headed there !
