We have had a storage unit for over three years with this company and they have always had an excuse as to why the heat and AC isn't being used in South Carolina where the summer heat can reach 98°F, although they have continued to increase the rent every year. I would stay away from this place. We rented a 10x10 outside unit in September of 2023 for $74.00 a month. Less than 2 years later, that price increased to $174.00 a month. The only reason I got for the increase was that according to my contract, they have the right to raise the price. A $100.00 a month increase is absolutely ridiculous and unjustified. I contacted the home office by chat, and the gentleman i was chatting with, hung up on me. Currently that same unit has an online price of $42.00. Never again would I rent from them. read more

I am 63 years old & rented a unit on Ebenezer Rd. Rock Hill in July 2022 for 135.00a month. Everything I own is basically in there. I fell on incredibly hard times. Public Storage just kept adding to my turmoil. Rent increased to 178. Thank goodness for Flo. Decreased it to 158 but i dropped the insurance because I couldn't afford it. Then in November my rates went up yet again to 205. I wrote a bad review & was strong armed to change my review with a 75$ decrease just fot the next months rent. His name was Tom & he was a bully. Pushing around a 63 year old woman who is very sick. Now I owe over 170$ in late fees. Most likely will lose everything I own. But, hey Public Storage it's just business, right? Stay away!! People are crooks. Rented a storage unit online. When she arrived the unit was not adequate for her needs. She never took occupancy and there was no one there to address the issue even though it said on the door that they were open. She canceled the rental on line in accordance with the rental agreement and was assured she would get a full refund. They did not give a full refund as promised so we disputed the charge which they lost. So they her to collection. read more

For the third time since I rented a storage unit, I was sent a "move-out receipt" in error. I have not moved out, and I have paid my monthly bill 100% on time. Each of these receipts was sent to me five minutes before office closing, so of course there is no opportunity for me to hear their lame excuses about how this was another error. In short, we are left wondering whether our belongings are safe, or whether somehow someone has gotten into our unit and emptied it. Unacceptable. read more

I needed a locker for only a month and didn't want to spend $20 on one of those cylinder locks everyone makes you buy. Jenna was gracious and helpful and found me the LAST unit that I could use my padlock on. She also informed me of a discount for first month's rent. That is great customer service! I rented from a Public Storage in Tega Cay upon moving down here. Had it for over a year with no issues. Everything up front so when I had to relocate I chose Public Storage again off my last experience. What a MISTAKE! They do not tell you when you rent the unit online that you have to purchase their OVER PRICED LOCKS for $20.00 that you can not at a local store. I called the manager twice who refused to call me back, but was on the phone with the front office. I would suggest any storage but this one! They have mechanisms to use but refuse so they can sell a $2.00 lock for $20.00. It is discounting and I won't use Public Storage again. Have a great day! Try Tega Cay! read more

It's nice and clean. They will work with you on payment issues/problems. I've never been charged a late fee, and I'm always late. I've had the unit for about 6 years. Very good customer service, always polite and courteous. On that note they are expensive, you may pay for what you get, but I only had a 8X15. Basically an over sized closet. During the six years I've seen at least five increases, 2 or 3 of them since 2013. That may seem okay, but the last two happened within 8 months or so of each other. I started off paying $50 or $60 a month. Now it $89 a month. Luckily I'm moving into my own place This weekend, right before the bill is due. Cool!! I'll let them know then of a vacancy!! read more

If I could give them, 0 stars I would. I moved out, officially, of the storage unit this year on the Jan. 2nd b/c the 1st was a holiday and everytime I went by to move out before that no one was there. I'd call and the phone would ring and ring. No answer. Low and behold on the 2nd someone is magically there and saying that I owe a balance b/c I wasn't out by the end of the previous month. I was out, there was just no one ever at the desk the check me out when I came by or called. The expect payment for something that I'm not using b/c employees were nowhere to be found. Policies with this company suck. Customer service is garbage. I'll never rent from them again, and make sure no one I know who is looking for storage will either. read more

Had a climate controlled unit from Shurgard Storage originally rented in 2006. Fair price and only 1 rate increase in 5 years. Since bought out by current owner, Public Storage, the rates have increased 3 times... from about $170, to $193, to $213 per month. When I inquired about the rate increases on a Friday, I was told that someone would get back to me the following Monday... became Tuesday, Wednesday, a week, then two weeks. I called again after 3 weeks and was told that my spouse could rent a unit for $143 to move the items into & I could release the $213 unit. I then said that I would VACATE the unit by the end of the current paid month (notice to vacate given). Needless to say, the unit is now EMPTY and available! I no longer have a storage unit here because rental increases of $20/month even ONCE a year soon begin to add up by year 3 ($480 more per year than 2 years ago). There are SMARTER options to STORE belongings at better rates in the Rock Hill and Charlotte area. read more

First, just buy the lock they sell. It's worth It. Second, I took my items out on Sunday an employee call me on Monday to see if everything was okay because he noticed the lock was gone. I told him I hadn't had the chance to call him yet seeing how I was at work. He closed my contract with them then and there. I didn't have to even come in. Super easy experience! read more

Poor communication on the requirements of self storage. We were not notified that we had to be back before 5 in order to load our storage container. Even though the hours clearly say they are open till 9. Upon our arrival there was already a lock on our container. What a disappointment!! read more
