Some observations:
* They only have 2 push carts (to load your items from your unit to your car, or your car to your unit) for the entire location. And try and find them! They have signs posted next to each building's entrance and elevator area to shut the outside door before you leave. So with all the doors pulled down on each building and only two push carts and three buildings, you can spend 15-20 minutes walking to each and every door/pulling them up to try and find these carts. And if you find one two buildings away from your building/unit, you now have to push it to your unit. Imagine if it's 10 degrees, or raining or snowing and you have alot of items to unload from your car to your unit, it from the unit to your car!! Not having a hand push carts in each elevator area is RIDICULOUS!!!!
* Make sure in the winter you are dressed as if you are going to be outside (gloves, hat, etc) because inside the entrance and hallways of the unit buildings is FREEZING!!
* If you use the Public Storage hand cart to load your items into from your car, and then are ready to push the cart with all your items on it into the doorway towards the elevator: make sure they are not oiled too high or awkwardly. The concrete slab going into the doorway area has a 1/2-1" rise from the street level into the building/doorway area that you will have to push the loaded hand cart over and into the building. If you have too many items in the cart, or they aren't organized on the cart properly and you try to push the cart over this concrete bump: your items will fall off of the cart. There's no way to avoid this concrete height increase going into every entrance way in each building, so be prepared when pushing the hand cart over it. Who cares what the reasoning is for this concrete height increase from the street into the entrance way. It should at least have been curved instead of a 1/2-1" step so you can easily push the loaded cart into and out of the buildings without risking your items falling and breaking on the concrete floor.
* Who was the genius who designed the password pads on the poles before each side of the gate when you enter and leave the location? You have to get out of your car before the gate; enter your password; then run back into your car while the gate is opening and drive in before the gate starts closing on you. Why isn't the pole/electronic password box in a spot that is high enough and close enough to enter your password WITHOUT HAVING TO LEAVE YOUR CAR????
* There should be an intercom in each building in case of an emergency or issue that you can push a button and the office person can answer your question without having to lock your unit; go back to your car; drive down to the office from your building; ask your question and then drive all the way back to your building and unit.
* Make sure you go to Walmart and buy your tape, boxes, etc that you may need before you are packing up to leave the unit. The monthly storage cost is high enough. Don't buy the over priced supplies in the office area.
* MONTHLY COST: Be prepared for a $10-15 monthly price increase EVERY YEAR!! Hopefully you will only need to use the unit for a shorter period of time, but be prepared to always pay at least $10 more per month for absolutely nothing!!
Summary: Look through your items you are storing. Do you really need to be paying up to or more than $2000 per year to store them?? Are those items really worth that much to pay Public Storage to store, year after year, for $2000 or more with no services other than a 10x10 concrete slab x amount of minutes away from your home unless you are running a business out of the storage unit and can write off the costs as a business expense? If you use Public Storage or any storage company for two or three years: is the stuff you didn't want in your house or couldn't fit anymore worth $4000-6000??? Check your items in storage; throw out or donate as much as you can; bring back the few items left back to your house and save yourself up to or more than $2000 per year!!! read more
