When I first purchased storage I noticed there was roaches and possibly bed bugs inside the storage units so as I was making sure my unit was clean. The property manager on site was complaining about me staying too long in my storage unit when I only spent 1 hr organizing my items and clothes and told me I'm only allowed to be at the storage unit for 20-30 min a day. Then today as I was walking off the property the property manager harassed me telling me I'm banging on his office door with no proof it was me and was definitely racially motivated because he told me it was hard for him to pronounce my name when I first checked in. at this point I refuse to use the bathroom on site due to being harassed everytime I access the storage unit and it being an issue for just renting a storage space wouldn't recommend to anyone I suggest purchasing a U-Haul next door. read more

I rent a unit and I had to take everything out that been damage by mice . the employee seen the unit to make sure there was no food and wrote vermin damage I used there orange doors storage insurance by sedgwick . Trish Ruiz Hernandez . been stringing me on I send everything see ask over and over the reason what I'm saying is when she ask to send pictures and price damage and propetry that was damaged . and I sent it . she ask for other stuff I sent here what she ask . when I do send more proof . she ask for something else . it been over a year . she don't even pick up or return phone calls just only emails . The online process is inconvenient. You're assigned a storage unit without being able to see where it's located on the property. Also, you're given an entrance code instead of choosing your own. And when you pay extra fees are included. The site is fine, and the employees are nice. But the whole process is disconnected from the needs of the customer. read more

I moved my stuff out on August 21, 2021 after storing it in one of their climate controlled units since February 2020. When I opened my unit I found mold on all of my wood furniture, several duffle bags filled with clothes and sheets were damp to the touch, boxes of games were damp and collapsed...this was all obvious at a glance. While unpacking over the next couple weeks, I found countless items that were also damaged. Thankfully, I paid for insurance and Orange Door is now processing my claim, but they will not give me the full value of what it will cost to replace the furniture that was damaged, nor will they be able to properly compensate me for the sentimental items lost, such as items I inherited from my deceased grandparents and professional photos of my nephew and nieces as infants that are now warped from the dampness. What is absolutely unbelievable to me is Public Storage's response, (or lack of response). On August 21st after I discovered the issue, I notified the MOD (manager on duty). She came down to the unit, took pictures for documentation of the larger more obviously contaminated items I left behind partially for this reason, and told my sister and I that she would refund two months payments but that was all she had authority to do and would pass on her notes and pictures to the DM (District Manager) so they could get in touch with me within the next few days. Those few days went past without word from the DM, so I went back to talk to MOD in person to inquire why, but to also come to an understanding about the items left in the unit. She said a note in my file had been made that they had called, but that my voicemail box was full and they were unable to leave a message. I immediately cleared my voicemail and the MOD said she would re-submit the issue to the DM. In regards to the items left; on my moving date I had rented a truck for 1 day, due to wanting to have some of the larger and more obvious items there for her to take note of and not wanting to move the larger furniture that was clearly covered in mold and most likely not in a condition to recover into my residence before cleaning, I only took the larger items that were all of sentimental value. After attempting to clean and treat these items on my front lawn it was clear that they were also past recovery. After careful consideration I decided that the larger items left behind were most likely the in the same condition and I also no longer had access to the truck to move them. I explained this to the MOD and asked her if we could come up with some kind of understanding for final removal from the unit, she had already offered me use of their company dumpster, I suggested either they would remove the items to their dumpster themselves or they would reimburse me for the truck rental required for me to transport the items to their dumpster. She seemed agreeable to coming to an arrangement and said she would put it in the notes to discuss with the DM. My unit was cancelled and my key removed that same day, as I did not hear back from the MOD or anyone with Public Storage about these items in the weeks afterward, I assumed Public Storage had taken care of the disposal. 4 weeks after the initial incident is the first time the DM has attempted to contact me, and her reason for contacting me was not about the fact that their storage facility failed to provide a climate controlled environment causing me to lose half of my household items...but to ask me when I was coming to remove the rest of my items from storage. Furthermore, she told me that the MOD had no authority to refund me the two months payments promised, and that she would not be willing to either and also that they would charge me for the removal of the items left behind if I did not come to dispose of them. She absolutely took no responsibility for Public Storage's care of my items, instead accusing me of bringing the items into the unit in this condition. I have posted this story on a local Facebook page urging others to check their units. 3 people have confirmed finding mold in their units. I now suspect that the buildings on this property flooded at some point and Public Storage failed to notify unit holders! Unforgivable! read more

I wish I had read these reviews before we rented here. As most renters we were surprised by the additional fees but we were ok because the rent was cheaper than in Rockville where we currently live. Then after just a few months we get a 30 day notice of a $50 monthly increase. As 2 disabled veterans this was quite a bit to add so I called the public storage customer service line. It was near impossible to get to speak with someone so I had to select that I wanted to make a payment over the phone to get someone on the line. After speaking with a rude agent I requested to speak with someone else. She transferred me to a voicemail box to leave a message. Well I did a return call with another dry representative whose response was the other representative was correct "the prices are what they are and there is nothing that can be done about it" If I could have it moved today I would. He explained what units were available, asked about what may be stored, and offered realistic suggestions about size--he wasn't pushing a unit that would be more than you'd need. He factored in right from the start what the price of a unit was with the required insurance--what you'd actually pay each month so there wasn't any surprise. He seemed to be very aware that people are on tight budgets these days. The entire property is clean--spotless even, no area looked rundown or in need of paint or repair, and most of all--the entire facility appeared safe and secure. read more

I've been renting storage units for decades, primarily in northern Virginia and Chicago. Used a Public Storage in Chicago and had a great experience, so when we moved to Frederick I went to this very convenient public storage. Moving in was fine even with a couple surprise fees. Mandatory insurance and using their lock. Within weeks there was a leak, but I was given an insurance form to report the damaged books and board games. The leak didn't happen again, so it was probably fixed, but I quickly got stuff off the ground just in case. Within months I received notice of a significant increase in fees, due to a regular adjustment of rates to market value. I believe I've had two in two years, but I don't think the second one was significant. This seems to done by HQ, not the local management, but it wasn't expected, even though it is in the contract, and I haven't experienced that before. For probably up to a third of the last two years, the front security gate has been broken. Made the short-ish gate opening times moot, but it is odd to have a secured facility without a working gate. Though the units are not temperature controlled or marketed as such, something about the construction seems to make them extraordinarily hot in the summer. I used some plastic shelving from Loews but they weakened in these units and some collapsed. Not sure how our previous units were constructed that made them seem a bit cooler. Though renting was easy, the location great, and the facility appears to be in good condition (other than the gate), I don't have the impression that this is a place where I want to spend my money. If it wasn't for it being a pain to move my stuff, I would have bolted after the first rate increase. I will not likely ever get a another unit here. read more

My husband made reservations for a storage unit on PS's online reservation site. He visited the Frederick MD Broadband location. He paid with our debit/credit card. The representative at this location said the reservation was made but they don't have where we paid with our card. My husband and I offered to show them a screenshot of our online banking to prove that the money was taken out of our account by PS. The representative said it's nothing she can do. So we were ass out of our keys for the storage unit. She said we would have to take it up with our bank to get our money back. I inquired about a number to call to make it right so we can get our keys or access code for the storage or get our money back. I contacted customer service to see if it was something they could do with no success and I received no respect. As a matter of fact the customer service rep was rude and hung up on me when I was only trying to get clarity on what to do. I ended up having to file a dispute with my bank for them to conduct an investigation the situation just to have our money return to our account. All because PS has a glitch in their system. Something they said they are aware of but haven't fixed. So now it becomes the customer's problem to fix. PS has stolen our money and won't give it back or give us the keys for the storage unit and they do not care at all. Please, please, please don't use them for storage if you know whats good for you. read more

Terrible experience. As if the stresses of moving are not enough by themselves. I booked a large storage unit online, received a confirmation email that I was all set with no fine print disclaimer, the message was clear as day noting that you are all set for your move, please arrive 30 min prior to move in. I called the location to confirm a few days prior only to find that they had already rented my unit and had no large units available for me. They offered to transfer my reservation to another location 5 miles further away and for $50 more per month. They were unwilling to accommodate the same space at their facility or another facility for the same price as currently booked. I talked to customer service with Public Storage, they basically said tough luck. I talked to a supervisor in customer service, again tough luck. Apparently there is an unwritten/unpublished policy that says if you book over 7 days in advance they can take your reservation for someone else. What is the point of a reservation if it's not honored? Why would they not publish this information when booking? I spent far too long dealing with this company. I ended up booking elsewhere. The funny part is, the day I was set to move, I again received a confirmation email for the unit, date, and price I originally booked saying, "you are confirmed for your move in today". Thankfully I called to check up on this company or I would have showed up with a truck, movers and had big problems. I would never recommend a company that makes a clear mistake and then does not make it right. The company should revisit their communication online as well as by email for confirmations and bookings outside of 7 days. There are much better options around for storage, try cubesmart on storage way for a better experience, better access times, and they have a truck you can borrow for free. read more
