Unfortunately, storage unit rental pricing is largely unregulated in California. The "California Self-Service Storage Facility Act" does not protect occupants from rental facilities raising your rent. Clearly Public Storage in Calabasas is not sufficiently motivated to keep their occupant's business. In less than 2 years, our unit went from $363 per month to $762 per month with notification of yet another increase coming. Needless to say, we vacated and found a facility with more transparency and reasonable terms. If you plan to move into Public Storage in Calabasas, be aware, this is not suitable for long term storage for most occupants. read more

COCKROACHES!!! My possessions were stored by a water remediation company for 6 weeks. When I retrieved my contents, we encountered LARGE cockroaches and black widows. The widows could have come from anywhere, but the roaches were definitely from storage. I now have to fumigate everything that was stored there before I bring anything back in and then wash everything, which includes furniture, clothing and things from every room of the house. I also saw reviews on another website with a response by the CEO, Ronald Havner, who wrote a response just two weeks ago: "To a Jew, there is only one thing of value: money. How he gets it...makes no difference." He cited "The Eternal Jew 1940" which was an anti-Semitic Nazi film. Whether he meant to cast aspersions or intended it as a response to an unfavorable review is irrelevant. It was monstrously poor judgement. This quote, on top of cockroaches, ensured that I will never do business with Public Storage again. Ever. And I will probably report Havner, CEO of a national corporation, to the Anti-Defamation League. To summarize: I'm disgusted. read more

I moved into the calabasas facility in January and by April 3 MONTHS later i get a rent increase from $265 to $411!? The facility is easy to locate and access, spaces can be booked online and codes are delivered electronically for a smooth and easy way to book space. Our unit was just the right size we needed. I, unfortunately, had a horrible experience at Public Storage at 8200 Balboa Blvd, Lake Balboa, CA 91406. Late last year, my unit was broken into and I had thousands of dollars worth of items stolen. The insurance didn't do anything and only covered around 25% of the loss. The staff was non-responsive and ended up increasing my monthly rent through hidden fees. They broke their contract which ensured round-the-clock security and reliable locks on all units. This is absolutely unacceptable behavior for a storage company and I'll never rent through them again. Do NOT store anything of high value in these units. It's heartbreaking having your prized possessions stolen from you. read more

There were a few problems. 1. I have stored my stuff many places over the years so I can honestly tell you that this is one of the most inconvenient places to store stuff at.The hallways are narrow, there are never carts to be found so you have to hunt for them. Their units are around corners and in different buildings and a weird setup. 2. I had a problem with a billing over site on their part and they were adamant that i was going to have to pay the bill. It's only one month but the point is that they weren't even willing to make any adjustments .Be careful, they don't care about their customers, only that they pay them on time! 3. This biggest problem is how unhelpful they are to their customers. "It's not their problem" is their motto. read more

I rented a unit for a few months to store some furniture. Fortunately, they were running a promotion where the first month was $1+insurance, so renting a unit economically made sense for that short period of time. There are dollies you can borrow during office hours and elevators which help a lot in the moving process. If there are other tenants also using the elevators, you may spend a good chunk of time just waiting. I found it more convenient to come an hour or two before gate access would end, since some of the other tenants I encountered would intentionally shut the elevator doors so as not to have to share, or would take the dollies without asking. Overall, I appreciated having this unit and found all the employees helpful. read more

I really cannot say enough about my experience at Public Storage in Calabasas. The staff is friendly, helpful and accommodating. I really appreciate the easy access, the cleanliness of the property and the helpfulness of the staff. Karen went above and beyond to assist me with my unit and I really appreciated her care and immediate response to my needs. Worst service ever. I have had a unit here for 3 months. 2 out of the 3 months the elevator has been out of service. There is no end date on the repair. My unit is on the 3rd floor and I can not move anything in or out. I am basically held hostage here. Part of my monthly fee is for the elevator service. I would expect that while I am not getting that elevator service, my bill would be lowered to reflect that. But instead, I just got notified that my rates are going up?!?!?! I would move out and go somewhere else, but I cant get my stuff out of the 3rd floor without an elevator. Horrible service! read more

AMAZING first impression I have friends that need a storage facility and I brought them up to this location and we were helped by a love young lady named Karyn. She took us on a tour of the facility, showed my friends the available storage facilities for their needs, explained the policies and procedures for renting there and was so helpful. Don't not rent here they will raise your rent and have hidden fees and they took away the prorated rent so even if you only need to have your stuff in for 5 days out of the month you have to pay 170 it's ridiculous! EVERYONE READ BEFORE RENTING A UNIT THROUGH THEM!!!!! Let me start by saying that I was with these guys for close to four years. Calabasas is a very safe area with little to no crime. The people that I rented from told me there wasn't ever a single bit of theft in their entire history..... So I figured I would be safe leaving my personal belongings there until I upgraded from my apartment in Calabasas to a house. I had a 5x5 storage unit that I rented out for $96/month.... Keep that number in mind. It was $96 per month... A few months before I vacated my stuff, I went to my storage unit to vacate my things and everything was there... In December of 2014 I went in with my moving truck to empty the unit... Only to find that my lock had been tampered with. When I opened the unit, 75% of my things were gone... STOLEN... Rare, one-of-kind items, my wife and I had our childhood things stolen, Christmas decoration (no Christmas decor for us that holiday season). The only things left behind, and not stolen, were heavy furniture items. Everything that was easy access and light was gone. You could even see where the bolt on the door looked like it had an attempt to cut with bolt cutters. The lock (I purchased FROM this Public Storage) was tampered... In such a way to make it look like nothing was wrong. When I went to the employees and they didn't seem to care. All they asked was, "Did you purchase insurance through us?" No.. because the guy told me it wasn't necessary there, and because I had my own renter's insurance. She didn't care one bit. I called the police department to put in a report. They came by and said that they would submit everything, but basically there was nothing that could be done. I tried thinking of any way we could catch who did this (ultimately they didn't care and didn't even try looking into who did it), BUT when I had an idea I found their phone number to call them on their website only to see.... THEY WERE RENTING THE 5X5 UNIT FOR HALF THE PRICE I WAS PAYING!!! HALF!!!! HALF THE PRICE!!!! Every year they sent me papers saying they were raising my rates, when in reality their rates were on a decline. I'm not referring to the "move-in" special. I'm talking about the listed REGULAR PRICE... HALF! When I called them out on it they said it was based on the current market..... YEAH RIGHT! Calabasas is a well-to-do upper class area... Property value doesn't crash in half here! So essentially for the last hand full of years, they were charging me near double for my unit... UNBELIEVABLE!!! They told me all I had to do was to check out the new rates online and call them to have the price dropped... FIRST OFF!!! WHY in God's name would I check out a website for the new rates when I'm getting letters from them assuring me that the rates are in fact increasing??? Since my unit was ROBBED and I had no need for one anymore, understandably, I already closed my account. So they said they wouldn't give me the difference of the discretion because my account was already closed... WHY WOULD I KEEP AN ACCOUNT WITH YOU WHEN MY PLACE WAS ROBBED??? And especially NOW after I found out that I was being ROBBED on my pricing??? This is flat out disturbing and disgusting... I'll never rent through these people again. I'll spend the rest of my life telling everyone I know looking for a storage unit of how I was criminally mistreated by Public Storage. At this point, the only way to make this remotely right is to refund me the difference of what I was paying versus what the actual price/value was. How ironic is it to spend about $4,000+ over a period of 4 years to hold onto cherished items, only to have it all robbed from you a couple of months before you were emptying it out? Then to find out you should of been paying half that much to be robbed... smh.... read more

No security and over priced. Our unit was broken into and we weren't even contacted by them. We were contacted by the sheriff's office who told us that the suspect(s) had rented a unit then had full access to any storage unit they wish because there are only four cameras in the whole place! I talked to people in the office who told me nothing other than they had cooperated with the police. They really didn't care. I asked why they hadn't contacted us directly to inform us that there was a break in and I was told, "That's a lot of work." The walls between units are drywall that's easily removable. Our lock wasn't tampered with at all, so we believe that they went through the easily removable walls. Everything was ripped open and looked at and we can tell that they had had a lot of time. I still haven't heard anything from public storage about updating security and changing policy. They don't care!!! Be aware and stay away!!!! Upon reading other reviews there are cheaper and more secure places to store your items. read more

I have used a number of their units over the past 2 decades and they always provide high quality attention to detail. My last visit (last week ), I simply needed some paling materials to store things at home temporarily. KARYN was super helpful, friendly, and professional. This was my first time using any kind of public storage. I was super impressed with the staff and pricing at this location. I made the reservation online and got a rock'n deal to store all my stuff while I am in Bali. Angie was super helpful and drove me around to show me the units and helped me with getting the right boxes. I found a location closer to my house, but the rates at the other location were more then twice the rates at this location. Who cares if your stuff is stored a mile away? I sure don't.
