The stage area/dance floor/karaoke area is big & takes up about 1/2 the building, while the actual bar area (complete w/ pool table & retro video game table) takes up the other half. There's a great outdoor patio if you want to sit & smoke or chat w/out having to shout over the singers. Apparently they also do barbecues out there from late Spring through Summer. As I write this, they currently do karaoke 2 nights a week: Sunday & Wednesday, starting at 9pm. The song book has a wide variety of genres & is ever expanding, as Rick can find just about any song for you if the karaoke version exists. Regulars often bring food to share & many people are willing to carpool if you get to know people & ask around. Either you clap 'cause it's great, the person really tried, or just because it's OVER. The first time I went to the Brig I was impressed by some of the clientele at this rather cheesy location on Blackstone (where it has been forever) that night..... I remember one really large young lady who didn't spare the tattoos but most people were so friendly and down-to-earth that I just had to accept them, missing teeth and all. This is how it should be. NO POSERS OR HATERS ALLOWED.I felt quickly accepted, myself. After a while it feels like someone's front room...if they had a bar, pool table, dart board, jukebox, and ATM machine in it. Country. Rock. Ballads. Substituting your own lyrics. ("Turn around, barfly." Can you say "Total Eclipse of the Heart?") Joy. Peace. Karaoke. Can't we all just get along?? Oh, the Humanity....... I've seen people of every age, race, and socio-economic status at the Brig, which I happen to enjoy.
