This is a great mountain view course, with a lot to offer, at a price point that wont break the bank. Fairways are pretty well taken care of. This isn't a high-end resort club, however I saw the local resort club when went went over for lunch, and they looked very similar in upkeep. Greens are unpredictable.. couldn't get a measure if they were fast or slow. Skill issue 100%, but just giving way to how I faired on the course. Some challenging scenery, with roughs that beg to swallow your golf ball into the abyss. I luckily only lost a sleeve...which is great considering the rentals came with a sleeve. Rentals were PXG lightnings. 14 clubs with 3 woods and a putter. Great set in good condition, being rentals. Pro shop Auntie was great. All the workers were super nice and helpful. Auntie spaced me out, golfing solo, where I had no issues with anyone behind me, and barely saw the twosome in front of me. I can see how this is a favorite amongst a lot of locals and traveling golfers. If I lived on the island, this could very well be a home course. If you believe that the other courses around are a little bit high in price, Puakea will not disappoint you for a more affordable island golfing experience! read more

Great Mountain View golf course. I think this is one of the most challenging courses on Kauai. Accurate drives are needed on many holes since the fairways are narrow and challenging. The greens are in great shape. Some of the bunkers are rough but the course is working on improvements. Staff are great and super friendly and there is cart service for snacks and beverages. read more

Golfed again at Puakea, course is fully open and in great shape. The greens especially were fast and well kept. In comparison to the course I usually play (Kiahuna) these greens were a few notches above. This is a fun course with a variety of holes, wide fairways for the high handicappers, and a nice grill for food after the round. Four stars though because many of the bunkers looked like they hadn't been maintained ever...full of weeds and dirt. Only other reason I downgraded the course to 4 stars: the " Cart Path Only" policy for a light rain, barely raining day with hardly anybody else on the course. The fairways are so wide and the path so far off to the side it makes for slow play needlessly. The day I played there was no way the carts would have done anything to the rough, the light rain barely made the grass wet. Most courses would say 90 degree rule for the conditions I saw. read more

No cart girl, no bathrooms on the back nine but the worst was when a Marshall stalked me on several holes to remind me that I was not wearing a collared shirt. Although mu top did not have a scoop neck, I was not indecent. I do follow the rules for appropriate attire but this very rude guy obviously didn't like my top. Will not be going back. read more

Enjoyed lunch on the deck. Barbara ate the grilled mahi plate. Includes big mound of sticky rice and a crispy green salad. She loved it. I had the mahi fish and chips. Delicious. This is not gourmet cuisine, it is very satisfying. The prices are reasonable. Big plate of food averages $18. The dining room is basic, nothing fancy. The beer selections have some local made labels. The Lihue lager, 22 ounce bottle, is my new favorite beer. Nice employees, friendly and helpful. Recommended. read more

Beautiful course in great condition. Played twilight for $45 with a cart, this is a great deal. I didn't bring clubs and rented a set for $37, the clubs were really good quality and were perfect. The course is well maintained and in great shape. Most of the holes have pretty open fairways. The par threes are fun to play. The course has a few challenging holes and you just have to play smart. The greens are nice and in great shape. The entire course is surrounded by beauty, some of the most breathtaking views on any course in Hawaii. You can book the tee time online, easy and no problem. The club house is nice and the staff from the starter to the guys that take care of the clubs and carts were friendly and professional. They were very helpful in providing the layout of the course. I recently played the course and I was surprised and disappointed in the condition it was in . There were multiple bunkers that were grown in and unplayable. There were tractors working on the course during play and there was no water available. All this for 170 dollars! I will not be going back in the near future. read more

We played Puakea today and unfortunately it was not a great experience. The back nine was under construction, bunkers were way sub par, there isn't any water or cart gal on the course. For $170 feet you'd think that there would be at least a few chilled bottles of water in the cart cooler. We've played there many times over the years and found to course to be ok. Not today. On a positive note, the carts were new and worked well and the course was void of players. Guess we didn't get the memo. Pro shop folks had an attitude when we spoke of the condition after golf. read more

1st time playing yesterday with my wife and son. My sons girlfriend was allowed to ride along and enjoy the scenery. Was to be a nice day weather wise but it rained on us the front nine. No worries, played anyway and still had a great time. Course is not super challenging but enough to make it interesting for 20 handicappers. They had aerated the greens but didn't matter, back nine no rain and harder but more picturesque. We played in right around 4 hours, so no back up or waiting. I will definitely make this one of my go to golf place in Kauai. Prices very reasonable and the staff very friendly and helpful read more

Great course with a nice mix of challenging holes. Staff is very friendly and acknowledgeable. Half bucket of balls for the range to warm up and no rider fee when my non playing wife came with me. On par with any of the other courses I've played on Oahu and Maui. That includes the Plantation, Bay, Blue, Gold, Emerald, Makena North and South on Maui and Ko Olina on Ohau. Their Pro Camden Nakashima is very knowledgeable and helpful with swing analysis and playing tips. The course and Camden are highly recommended. read more

My husband played here 3 times while we vacationed in Princeville 2 weeks ago. He really enjoyed it. He thought the greens were in good shape, played fast and given the windy conditions (there was a storm rolling through the state at that time), quite challenging. A cart is required due to the long distance between greens and tee boxes. Shout out to Diego in the pro shop , who was very helpful and offered tips on how to book online to get the best rate. I was allowed to ride with my husband during his afternoon rounds. It's a pretty course with mountain views. He definitely recommends this course for ease of access and friendly staff. Another plus is that we ordered a lunch box from the grill, which was delicious, especially the spam musubi and ginger fried chicken. read more

I would give it 5 stars because everything was perfect but, the pair of 2 older gentlemen myself and another single were playing with wouldn't stop talking. The 4 hours I couldn't focus because he kept yapping. I felt bad for the guy because it was borderline odd or senile. Come here often and went with family today & was harassed to put clothes on because I'm in a GOLFING tank top? Told four times after he drove by to check if I covered up, without my shirt being overshowing what so ever. For a male to focus on me and my wardrobe that's For golf, ironically, is sexist unneeded harassment, he kept using "girls have to wear collared shirts too." I look around and every women was in a NON collared shirt. Also been here tons before, never had a comment on my outfit choice! It's golf in Kauai! Lighten up brah Continuously told us to wear our soaked clothes to cover up after we voiced it's raining/freezing cause they're soaked. We took a Bathroom stop and he followed/corrected us for the path we took (while we stayed on the cement to get back) He was on our case for no reason, maybe a bad day but uncle shouldn't be working here if he's not able to lighten up to residents that come and spend $$ often. This is by far my Favorite golf course I have ever been to. You need to see my pictures! This place is spectacular both on the greens and the manicured holes. It stays greener than green because of all of the rain! We sure could use this in California. The scenery has beautiful mountains, ponds, and the ocean. There are so many different species of birds, tree's, geckos, flowers, and insects it was hard to focus on the game. The staff made sure there was plenty of ice for us and cold water strategically placed and the bathrooms were very clean! I did almost kill us on one of the holes because of me taking my eye of the road for a split second, but the golf cart saved us! So don't blink and don't sleep on not playing at this golf course, you can thank me later. read more

This was our all time favorite course on Kauai until the new management changed the price to $179 pp! We used to be able to get deals on different golf sites but no more.....never once saw anyone playing all the times we passed by. The course is not in great shape ( from the outside looks) and their water is being diverted to an ongoing construction project nearby. This makes me so sad to not be able to play Puakea! read more

OK, so the front nine winds around a Costco and Home Depot. Once you get past that, you'll find Puakea is a fun coruse with a decent frnot nine and a very interesting back nine. Never a crowd, juniors play free or at a substantially discounted rate, and the standard adult rate is very reasonable. I'd rank this and Kiahuna as the two best everyday courses on Kauai. The Prince Course is unique, and expensive, making it a one time must play. Kauai Lagoons has some great holes but also some very ordinary holes. Poipu Bay is way overpriced. Played here 20 years ago when it was just 10 holes. The course was amazing. Since then they added 8 holes. Those holes were just okay. The biggest issue is the course conditions. For $179 a person I expected much better. Grass in some sand traps. Greens were okay but look like there's a lot of weeds. Fairways were okay. Not lush and green. Lots of debris on the sides of the holes. There was hardly anyone golfing. We started at 10 am and never saw anyone until we finished 18 and saw a group on 11. read more

Front shop staff rain checked our back 9, but when we called to book our rain check they would not honour it. Very expensive round and we did not get to take full advantage of it at all. There are much better and more accommodating courses on the island. Diego was very unhelpful in this situation. Not directly his fault but if we are told one thing from the front desk staff they really should honour it even if it was a miscommunication on their end. read more

The course was amazing! Dan the GM is a great guy and the starter Steve was awesome too! Greens were some of the best I've seen in a long time but they run slow I'd say around 8-10. I'm use to playing slower greens since my home course is about the same. For the price if you are a non resident this is the Best Buy at $85. With tax comes to around $92. I was going to play Wailua course since it's the muni course but they want $48+($20 for the cart)=$68. I figured I'd pony up the extra and I wasn't disappointed, definitely give them a try!!! Such a disappointment. I thought "hey maybe we can take our dad out golfing for Father's Day since we are vacationing in Hawaii." Review of the course: Ugh. Maybe 3/9 holes in the front has a pretty view. The rest were pathetic. Grass around the course had huge brown areas, greens were so slow it could pass as fairway grass, and golf carts are old and dinky. Pro shop was in a run down portable. Service: LOL, So this had to be the WORST "resort" golf club service I've ever experienced. The moment my sisters and I walked in, the lady in the pro shop (her name is Pearl) looked us up and down and muttered something under her breath. Then she turns to us with attitude and goes "this is a RESORT, you have to wear a collared shirt. EVERY golf course has this rule" Ok pause. I called an hour PRIOR to getting there to check on the weather (we just docked from the cruise) and also to check their dress code policy. She specified how we can't wear cut offs or bikinis (if this is the standard, I don't know how they can expect to be so snobby). So we went in khaki shorts and loose fitted under armor shirts. I don't want to sound privileged but my sisters and I have been golfing for most of our lives (20-25years) and my dad has been golfing for over 30 years. We have played at the local courses to actual resort golf courses like Pelican Hills, Trump National Golf Club, and Pebble Beach. We dress appropriate to the level of care you show in your course. Lo siento if my non-collared shirt offended you, your course doesn't even have a legit driving range. Ok unpause. The pro shop woman (Pearl) obviously was annoyed at us from her condescending demeanor. One of her friends popped her head in and Pearl's attitude changed to a friendly "oh hey!" So I can't even give her the benefit of the doubt by thinking she is just having a bad day. She clearly did not like our presence. But we ignored her attitude and made our way to the starter... OMG what a disaster. He was, if possible, even MORE rude than Pearl! He was patronizing throughout the entire process. Then he started talking golf etiquette as though we were beginners. We don't have anything to prove to them so we bit our tongue and proceeded. But for all the emphasis they were putting on "resort" you'd think they would have a real starter podium instead of a make shift wooden shack. Luckily for us, golf is always fun when we get a chance to play together. So we were still able to enjoy each other's company and a short 9 hole round. But oh my goodness. I'd NEVER play on this ghetto fab course again as long as Pearl and that starter is there. Side note: I made a tee time through the phone. There is inconsistency on club rentals between the after hour call center and pro shop. And Pearl was totally unapologetic for OUR inconveniences. The only star goes to the wonderful gardeners and cart maintenance crew. You guys were awesome, thank you! read more
