I was just denied service by Carol Ladeluca-Myrianthis, PT, after having received several…read moretreatments from her under an authorized referral from my general practitioner at Kaiser Permanente, and their contracts team.
The reason for the denial.of service? I disclosed for the THIRD TIME that I'm also receiving physical therapy treatment at the Kaiser Hilo clinic. I made Carol aware of this on my first and another subsequent visit.
Carol could not provide a reason for denying my authorized and paid-for service other than that I was "not allowed" to have more than one physical therapist, to which I responded that it's Kaiser and myself that are paying for my care, that Kaiser is aware I'm receiving treatment at their clinic as well as through their outside referral and they have no treatment or payment issue with the arrangement, and they care authorizing extra external care. I asked Carol, "so who is it that decides that I'm not allowed" for which she just repeated that it's not allowed. Her refusal to provide a meaningful explanation for her behavior and simply deny service left me feeling like some sort of pariah.
Sadly, I am in elevated pain today and need treatment. I explained that to Carol as well and asked if I could receive treatment today and then resolve whatever administrative issues there might be. She said "no" and completely denied me service which is authorized and paid for by my insurance company and by myself for a co-payment.
I told her I had previously made her aware of the arrangement of also receiving treatment at the Kaiser Hilo clinic, on two previous visits including my very first, to which she replied that she did not understand that, and would still not treat me today.
This is after taking a fresh shower, putting on freshly laundered clothing, driving at least an hour round trip, and wasting at least a gallon of gasoline, and sitting in their waiting room for a while.
Adding the frosting on top was their office had called me yesterday and interrupted me in a meeting. I took the call which was an appointment reminder, but also a lengthy list of pre-visit infectious disease screening questions regarding travel out of the country, contact with people who had international travel, or maskless attendance with groups and so forth. I took the time out of my meeting yesterday and answered the questions.
Upon checking in, I was again asked the same set of screening questions to which I responded that I had been contacted yesterday and already answered them, and did not understand why I was being asked again in less than 24 hours. The clerk responded that it had been charted that I was unable to be reached prior to today's visit. That is a lie and failure to properly chart patient information, and I believe a violation of HIPAA confidentiality law since this was being asked of me verbally in a waiting room with other people who could overhear the conversation. Sorry folks, it's a lie and poor charting. I have the call record receipt.
I find this place unorganized, unprofessional, uncaring, and operating in a manner that is arbitrary, capricious, and contrary to healing and wellness. They have wasted my time and treated me poorly. If the Hippocratic oath is part of physical therapy, it's been violated here today
Finally as I was writing this I got a return call from Kaiser Permanente to make an alternate outside referral, and they confirmed they are aware of, and ok with, my receiving physical therapy care at both the Hilo clinic AND an adjunct outside provider. It was never explained nor provided in patient documents from Kinesis Hawaii / Pahoa Physical therapy that I was not allowed to have two providers, yet I was denied treatment in a power hungry uncaring manner based on the whim of the moment by my care provider who is also an owner of the physical therapy clinic. Carol Ladeluca-Myrianthis cares more about whatever power move us going on in her head than providing needed care that is authorized and paid for.
I HIGHLY DO NOT RECOMMEND!
