Beautiful venue and good food. Sat at the bar/lounge for a quick drink and food to fill the stomach before heading over to the symphony. First off, the aesthetics was beautiful so if you're looking for a romantic dinner or an upscale place to conduct a early evening business meet this is your place I started off with a beef tartare on a roasted bone marrow, and topped off with kaluga cavier to give it an exquisite look. This dish was beautifully presented but to be honest the flavoring was mediocre. Wish the bone marrow was more filling. To be fair it could be because I'm not a huge beef tartare fan. Well don't regret trying just a bit pricy I thought for what I got. Also tried the Wagyu Beef Cheek...this was fabulous. A tender cooked beef marinated in a light cream Panang curry...fantastic. This is served with a side of coconut sticky rice (not sweet as I was expecting) wrapped in a baby leaf. Just add that rice into the curry and serve. Sooooo good. Must try. Overall good experience. Wouldn't mind going back to try more dishes

I thought the food here was delicious but the reason why I'm eating it 3 stars is because of the service. The server was super nice and knowledgeable but it took an hour for our order to be taken. We were there for over three hours. I understand it was a busy Saturday night, but waiting an hour for our order to be taken is crazy.

Proxi was great! I highly recommend it for a (near) downtown option close to theaters, train stations, and the financial district. I came here to catchup with an ex and had a lovely time which speaks to the restaurant's ability to create a calm, comfortable, and enjoyable experience. The restaurant is exceptionally well designed, spacious, and relatively quiet. The staff were all very professional, attentive, and knowledgeable on the menu. We tried six food items in total: the paneer, scallops, bass, chicken, wagyu beef cheeks, and yuzu pie. The paneer and seafood options were my favorites. I probably wouldn't order the beef again. Overall, for price, location, ambience and food Proxi is a great and highly recommended spot.

This place BLEW me away!! Unlike some other RW, I felt like I actually had time to breathe and enjoy my meal. Our server was absolutely delightful and so upbeat. The inside is very modern and classy. Course I: Fennel apple chaat had the most delicious chutney sauce and Indian spices. So refreshing and loved the variety of textures. My first time trying oysters, so fresh like sashimi! Smoked pumpkin hummus had a nice tangy pomegranate molasses (tasted like balsamic vinegar) drizzled on top. A nice pop of flavor! Course II: Coal roasted mussels - Not much flavor, even with the kimchi. Bread was a bit stale. Thai sour sausage packed a kick and came with a very refreshing cucumber salad. Smoked mushrooms had thick grits on the bottom and a nice variety of mushrooms. Course III: Slagel Farms Pork belly - didn't love the sticky rice, but the pork MELTS in your mouth. So delicious. Roasted king salmon - the MOST juicy, tender, melting salmon I've ever had. Sauce was an addicting korma curry. We scraped every last bite. Desserts were a cafe de olla opera cake and the brown sugar pavlova. The pear sorbet was an absolute hit!

Came here for restaurant week and I'm blown away! Ambiance - intimate, dim lighting, great for dates and small groups Service - servers were super nice, manager even came to check on us to make sure food/everything was good Food - honestly there wasn't a single bad dish, the flavors paired so well together, the slagel farms pork belly was so tender/flavorful, my favorite was the smoked pumpkin hummus Can't wait to be back!

My boyfriend and I found Proxi to be alright. We had the Heirloom Tomato Salad, Koji Cured Bone in Ribeye with Ssamjang Butter and Soy-Black Garlic Jus, and the Twice-Baked Potato side. The steak was good with a nice and flavourful char and the sauces were fun too. The salad had a unique taste that we had not had before (possibly a sesame based dressing?) with spicy bits of possibly togarashi which my boyfriend was fine with but kept catching in the back of my throat. The desserts were not the best. The miso flavor was too strong in the Milk Chocolate Miso Namelaka and completely overpowered everything; it was like eating miso mousse. Similar situation with the Black Sesame Fudge Ripple ice cream--very intense sesame flavor, which maybe some people would enjoy, but we certainly did not. Personally, I think these could have been amazing if the flavours were a little more balanced. The tables in the area we were seated in were quite close together, which felt a little tight and awkward but there were other more spacious areas. Lastly, we were told we would need to be done by 8pm as there was a reservation after us, which we were fine with. But our waiter took a long time to take our dessert order even though we were done with the main part of the meal by 7:35 and ready to order. We were given our check at 7:59 and we wrapped up quickly but noticed the table didn't actually get filled for about 10 minutes after while we waited for our Uber.

Overall, a fantastic experience. We did the Chef's Tasting with sake pairing and were impressed. Of all the dishes we were served, the only miss was the Grilled Cobia Collar. It was hard to eat, had a gnarly texture, but the flavor did not make the work to eat it worth it. Other than that, stellar!

a classy, modern spot with contemporary Asian fusion dishes from all over - which meant the dishes were not only delicious but also unique in flavor. it's hard to pick favorites because everything was amazing, but the lobster sujebi is definitely a must-try, with the chewy sujebi (Korean hand-torn noodles), large chunks of lobster & light but creamy sauce with mentaiko (pollock roe). another must-order is the green curry banana split, which initially sounded strange but was surprisingly yummy! the savory green curry & sweet banana weirdly worked. only (kind of big) con was the portion sizes - super small and left the meal kind of unsatisifed. what we ordered: - scallops - lobster sujebi - pork - yellowfin tuna crudo - dessert: green curry banana split

What can i possibly say to describe my favorite restaurant? I've been to Proxi numerous times and decided to celebrate my 49th birthday here with friends and family! It was an amazing experience with the most amazing food and drinks. We ordered so much food it's impossible to rave about each and everyone; Some highlights of the evening included the Branzino fish, the Hamachi crudo, the scallops, the clam soup, the beef tartar bone marrow and the Curry Banana split. Chef Andrew is outstanding! He runs a great kitchen with the best food! We will absolutely be back to our favorite restaurant in the city.

The presentation of the food and the decor of the restaurant w the almost floor to ceiling windows and classy ambience and the cleanliness and beauty and the high ceilings, the gender neutral bathrooms, the wonderful attentive staff, including Kevin, our waiter who was very gracious and humble and super sweet, and Billy the food runner, who was very knowledgeable about the food, were all amazing. The other staff were constantly looking out for our needs. The food: This is subjective, but the flavors and the plethora of aïoli (mayo like) sauce for many of the dishes was just too much for me and there were a lot of spices that made it too spicy to enjoy, and even the ice cream at the end was salted caramel... good ice cream but I needed something neutral at the end. A sorbet to cleanse the pallet could've been helpful because there were a lot of flavors and spices and saltines. The chefs menu item yam cake was too dry and the shrimp floss might have made it taste like old dried salted shrimp. I wished it were a dessert w nothing salty or shrimpy. The lobster Sujebi was good ... from the sauce to the lobster ... but the noodles, even if they were good, were uber chewy and by the time I got to chewing it almost down to swallow it, all the flavor of the sauce disappeared and I was left with plain super chewy noodles stuck in my mouth. So I would have preferred wide rice noodles that could go down w each savory bite of the lobster. The chefs menu lamb was dry and the paste on the side was too spicy. The baby eggplant said it had smoked tofu but I didn't see any. All I saw and tasted was a ton of mayo like thick paste w spices on top that was salty and they said this was the smoked tofu. Not sure how that made sense bc the description should be more like "eggplant stir fried in some szechwan glaze topped with mounds of tofu paste with spices." The best part of the meal was the dessert. The semifredo dessert that was similar to a hybrid of ice cream and mousse with cute little sweet potato pieces on top and a coconut outer layer was very savory and creative. And I had the best fruit salad I've ever tried in my life. It had sesame seeds, pineapple, very good apples, cucumbers, a nice sweet sauce along with some crunchy roasted sweetened nuts. Overall, a lot of the dishes had too much aioli like sauces so it was too rich. But the dining experience was wonderful bc I know the chef and assistants worked very hard to make everything just right and aesthetically pleasing which it all was, the ambience was very nice, the wait staff and food runners and bus people were super nice and attentive, and we were thankful that we didn't have to cook and clean for dinner. And the chefs menu for $110 per person was a great deal if you like most of the food on the menu. Thank you Proxi.

Our wonderful evening at Proxi began as soon as we entered and were greeted by two friendly hostesses. We were shown to our table which was spacious yet cozy. The restaurant was busy/lively, but never felt crowded or noisy. Our server was attentive and knowledgeable regarding the menu and was helpful when we were deciding on drinks. Food was delicious and cocktails were perfectly crafted and unique. For our second round we got the seasonal punch bowl to share between the four us-- plenty to go around! I highly recommend checking out Proxi!

Great place for a group or date night, especially if you're trying to catch a show at the theater. Everything at Proxi was delicious and service was impeccable. This theatre menu was perfect as we all got to sample various dishes together. My niece and cousin had certain allergies and I truly appreciated the staff and chef taking the time to accommodate our dietary restrictions. There were no leftovers at this table! I need to come back here to try the other dishes. Bravo, Proxi!

About how many small plates per person does the restaurant recommend? i.e. 1 per person, 2 per person?

Depends on your group size but I would recommend 2 per person- and of course share. We have been there with small groups (3) and also larger groups (12). The servers are great and will tell you if you are ordering too much.

    Gluten free options?

Yes! I cant remember which options specifically but the staff is quite adept to dietary restrictions.

    Any vegetarian dishes?

Yes, tons of them - Indian style too.

All the premier dinners come with salad, cheese, fondue, and the chocolate fondue - You are just choosing what protein you would like. The Prince Geja combination has a little bit of everything. However, we most liked the seafood which includes lobster and the scallops were to die for! Also the beef also cooks well. Favorite dipping sauce included the pimento mayo, chimichurri, and garlic butter. The cheese fondue is quite rich and the bread is quite filling so maybe get as much cheese as you can on each piece of bread. The chocolate fondue, I think is actually the best course as the Belgium chocolate melts so well and has a decadent but not overly sweet flavor. It pairs well with all that is provided for dipping, which includes poundcake, rice Krispies, strawberries. They also have some liquor that they light on fire at first so you can roast the marshmallows. It is such a well thought out experience. Service flows very well from two waiters who take your order set up your fondue pots for each course, but be prepared to spend at least 2 hours on this experience. The truffle-parmesan fries: We couldn't tell if they were too salty or just salty enough, but somehow we couldn't stop eating them! I ordered the baby wedge salad with chicken, and while the chicken looked small at first, it ended up being a large enough portion to last the salad. We were glad to get a seat out on the patio on a lovely Tuesday evening after having spent time at the Zoo just a short walk away. The patio is lovely, two servers handling the large space extremely well. There were some things we had that were standouts, and others that were just fine. The half chicken was excellent, cooked perfectly and rubbed with delicious warming spices, the potatoes and pickled veggies the perfect counterbalance. Similar idea to the dish at Armitage Alehouse, but better seasoned and a lot lighter. The steamed mussels rivaled those of Armitage as well at a fraction of the cost. Very different broth, but the mussels themselves were excellent. We were also really impressed with the tuna tartare, an excellent blend of flavors and textures we could have had seconds on. The crispy shrimp rolls were a slight miss, largely because the shrimp were finely chopped, rather than sliced chunks. You ended up getting more the essence of shrimp than shrimp itself. We also felt the skillet cookie was just fun, no better or worse than we've had at places like Crosby Kitchen. Overall, a really good meal that scrapes being really great at times, and does it at affordable prices with friendly, attentive service.

I'd never been to Willow Room and liked that they had a four course dinner menu, with items I liked. I was able to make a reservation for a Saturday night at 8:15pm. PARKING Parking on Halsted on a Saturday night can be a nightmare, and it did take a minute to find street parking. North of the 1800 block is busier because there are several restaurants within a two block radius. Side streets are permit parking after 6pm. Meters on Halsted are $2.50/hr. ATMOSPHERE Willow Room was pretty packed. We had a reservation for 8:15pm and my party of two was seated right away. The restaurant features a full bar, dim lighting and is nice and roomy. They have banquette seating around the perimeter, in addition to tables in the middle. SERVICE Our server, who was very nice and accommodating during our dining experience, came by and gave us our menu's. I had already decided on the RW menu and after review, my friend was interested in the Beef Wellington (not on RW menu). Our server informed us that normally the whole table had to order off of the RW menu if one person does, but said she would check with the kitchen since this was the last day of RW. Luckily, we were able to proceed with ordering from different menu's. FOOD I ordered a raspberry Cosmopolitan. I'm a Riesling/Moscato girlie, but I tasted the Riesling and didn't like it. RW dinner was priced at $60. I ordered: First Course: Caesar Salad (Typical salad, was good) Second Course: Mussels (Tasted fine, came with a baguette) Third Course: Short Rib (Could've been slightly more tender and better seasoned. I've definitely had better. Wouldn't order again.) Fourth Course: Orange Ricotta Donuts (Donuts were very good. Three were served, a few more would have been more filling.) My friend ordered a glass of Pinot Noir and: Truffle Fries (Fries were very tasty. I would order again if I went back.) Beef Wellington (The breading was buttery and very good. The beef could've been more seasoned. I wouldn't order.) Key Lime Pie (Was not sweet and had no taste. When our server came back and saw it was uneaten, she offered to take it off the bill. It should be removed from the menu altogether.) The busboys and server were very attentive. Our water glasses were always filled. OVERALL The atmosphere was nice, our server was great. Of all the food we ordered, I would order the truffle fries and Cosmopolitan again. I did leave full and did take my leftover Short Rib to go. Main dishes needed more seasoning. I would dine here again and try a different menu (brunch/lunch), or Happy Hour if they offer it.

Fried chicken was crunchy and good. A touch sweet for my liking but very good. Truffle fries were a big hit. Also had warm crab dip wish had quite a few shells/cartilage but flavor was good. The drinks were all very good too. Music was nice. You good hear it a vibe to it but it was too loud. We didn't have to yell or talk loudly. We were were celebrating all 4 of our upcoming June/July birthdays and she treats us like rock stars. Great job Genesis

While the table was on the sidewalk it was slightly set off and not on a busy street, so that was nice. While I only went inside to use the restroom, the vibes are interesting... I had their aperol spritz and it was okay. It was strong which was good. Then a pornstar martini. I thought the pornstar martini was really good and the best item of the evening. We shared oysters, the crab dip, and tuna tartare. The oysters were alright. The crab dip was funky. It was a bit fishy and maybe too heavy on the dill? I'm not sure but something was a bit off. The tuna tartare tasted fresh and was a good combination of flavors. It would be the only food item I'd reorder from the happy hour menu.
