I hate shopping. I hate malls. It is in this spirit that I render this review. As a bonafide mall hater, I find Providence Place to be marginally less odious than other malls. This means Providence Place is a little better than getting spit on by a stranger. I'm savvy enough to know not to come on the weekends or the evenings. I should stipulate you should be self-employed, independently wealthy, a stripper, or homeless in order to follow my Only Visit in The Morning methodology. I have a hexagonal approach I employ, zigzagging between only the useful and relevant stores and bypassing the trendy and inane. I can run the obstacle course in 45 minutes. Malls are always gathering places for the damn kids you're trying to keep off your lawn. Providence Place is no exception. I don't know why you'd ever come to the mall expecting it to be a pleasant experience or free of angst-ridden, emo teenagers and their gangbanger counterparts. It's a mall. It sucks. Besides having all the awesome stores I have become accustomed to living in California, it is a really nice looking and pleasant place to shop. I just spent 6 fantastic hours and countless dollars there today. The Good: Nordstrom (only one within a 100 miles of Providence) Cool upscale stores like Tiffany's(holy crap!?!?), Apple, Guess, Bebe, J. Crew, Banana Republic along with your basic mall standards H&M Dave & Busters IMAX theater Sephora!!! The Bad: Poorly designed parking structure The Ugly: The carpeting throughout the mall, while a great idea in theory, is now stained and worn in some areas, but otherwise clean The plethora of eating establishments is amazing. I ate at this Indian place in the food court that was delish!!! It is rather spread out...but that's because most every store has incredible amount of floor space, quite unlike the cramped malls in Cali where square footage is at a premium. Those who complain that it is too big ought to visit the Great Mall in Milpitas, CA. Providence Place is small potatoes. As a native Rhode Islander, I remember the beautiful view of downtown from the highway before this beast of a mall was erected. At first I was outraged and disgusted, but really, the state needed such a mall desperately. It is now the go-to shopping mall in SE New England. PP has some great stores for sure. That being said, I'm not an indoor mall type person, tend to feel trapped, needing fresh air, etc. Warwick mall is much easier and more convenient to "escape" from. Garden City is great, though can be very busy. The bad: Parking garage fees and system... I have to pay to shop, really? Also, backed up traffic when trying to enter and exit! Gates at exit seem to always have issues, so you can wait in line for quite awhile. Anxiety inducing! Not the best crowds here either, can be sketchy, people can be rude. . read more

I will start by stating in all blunt honesty, I cannot stand this mall. My reasons? 01. I've been ripped off. More than once. And trust me when I say, I'm not the gullible type: I've never had anything lifted while at any other location, ever. Not even five months after this atrocity to man kind opened, I had my purse literally ripped out of my hands in front of Borders. Yup. No, not in the New York City Mall. No, not at Philly's Gallery. At the oh so lovely Providence Place. That's enough to completely irritate the hell out of me. 02. This mall screams pseudo "I'm a haute sophisticate while I sip on my skinny mocha latte" and yet, I cannot even begin to count the number of times people have been tasered here in fights. It's absolutely ridiculous. 03. The parking wins the award for the most absurd, annoyingly shitty layout I have ever seen. After parking a couple times we got the hang of it rather quickly but in a state where the drivers rank amoung the country's worse, this is a recipe for absolute disaster. The parking itself wouldn't be so terrible if the drivers had a little more than the brain capacity of a door knob. Use your turn signals people! And for the love of God, stop speeding in a parking lot! 04. The kids. Oh, the kids. The issue here is while PP's main focus is promoting a "one stop" upscale shopping experience in the "heart" of Providence, it's nestled in the utmost perfect location for random Jr. High kids to play hooky, roam and otherwise run about in complete chaos due to Kennedy Plaza. Unlike other malls that require a bus ride or other transportation, this place is nearly almost packed weekdays and weekends alike with screaming children. I'm sorry. But there's nothing worse than actually trying to buy something while the store clerks are too busy attempting to calm the high schoolers down to actually assist me. Also due to this, many of the stores are a total wreck, especially fronts like Old Navy. 05. So many of the sales personal have such a bad attitude. I love GAP but every time I go to PP's location, I feel like I'm entering a black hole of absolute misery. 06. The carpet was a bad idea. 'Nuff said. Sadly though, this is like the only Nordstrom's within a hundred mile radius so I'm stuck. At the very least, the more upscale stores are usually completely dead (re: dying economy), proof that very few of the very many guests actually buy anything. The foot court is pretty decent but beware, it can suck trying to find a seat during peak hours. Overall, I really try to avoid this mall at all costs, but unfortunately it has a couple of my favourite stores (Sephora, LUSH, etc) forcing me to every so often pop in. Personally, I prefer Silver City Galleria or Emerald Mall over PP. Three stars for the Sephora though! read more

I struggle with this review. Part of me loves Providence Place because of the amazing shops, it's cleanliness, and the necessity of it. The other part of me hates it with a passion for it's horrible, awful, confusing and just plain stupid parking garage and accompanying ticket system. In the end, Providence Place is just somewhere I cannot stay away from, no matter how hard I try. The mall is made up of the usual suspects: Pottery Barn, Williams-Sonoma, Crate & Barrel, Sephora, J. Crew... you get the picture. The thing is, each and every one if these shops is GOOD. Well-stocked, great service and tons of options. They've also got a Nordstrom, which I love, and Lush. Lush! And way, way upstairs at the tippity-top beyond the abysmal food court, they have a movie theater that includes my beloved IMAX. Fabs. Fabs, indeed. But really, the parking garage: it's the bane of this mall and I'm sure it costs them customers because of it's poor design and lack of sense. To switch from standard American left-side-of-the-road driving to UK right-side is ridic, dangerous and appalling. The ticketing system to enter and exit is awful because there are only TWO exits, so a traffic jam is inevitable with high number. To be honest, I avoid this place during the weekends and especially the holiday season because of the garage alone - for reals. It's obnoxious and I hate it. To quote The Huz, "the person who designed this garage should be shot." Maybe not shot, but for sure they should be chastised. Maybe even spanked. My solution? Go here on a Tuesday, late morning or early afternoon. Take an early or late lunch, make a list and you'll be in and out within an hour. Sometimes there is meter parking available on Francis or Gasbee St, so take a stab at it and walk the 2 minutes - you'll save yourself a bundle of fury! read more

Completely useless. Everytime I go in there they never have anything that I need. For example today rather than me waste my time dealing with moronic rhode islanders and dealing with downtown traffic i called up zagg to see if they had a screenprotector for my particular phone and shockingly enough (major sarcasm there) they didn't have it. People in the apple store don't know they're asses from their elbows if they're coming or going. And why the heck does this asinine mall have almost 3 floors of women's clothing with few other variety of stores in between? This place would of been better off being turned into a place for homeless people or an apartment complex that would have been more useful than this useless stupid mall. read more

The parking is like being in Dante's sixth circle of hell...or perhaps that is an insult to hell. It is dark,dank and confusing at best. So parking was $1 when you were paying cashiers to collect the money but went up to $2 for three hours to pay a kiosk. I also hate paying to park to spend money, the emerald square mall is right up the road free parking. If you go to dinner and a movie it's additional $5 to park. Dear Providence Place Mall, Thanks. Thanks for the hours of (sometimes weekly) shopping you provided me for five solid years. Thanks for being at the bottom of the hill, allowing me to run into your giant arms, comprised of a beautiful bevy of stores and restaurants. You and I have been through a lot, haven't we? From the days when I used to grab a coffee and sit inside the Borders (RIP), to that fateful Black Friday of 2009 when I traipsed by myself to your doors in the snowy twilight since I was an overwhelmed grad student with no time to go back home (sob)... you were pretty much my second home, and I loved you. I still do, though I don't visit quite as often. Sure, you've got a cavernous parking garage, but if you just remembered which side/level at which you parked... I didn't think it was all that bad. At least you've GOT parking. A lot of it. And covered parking, too! I remember when there were REAL people manning the parking stations. That's how far back you and I go, PPM. You've switched up some of your stores--I've had to say good-bye to some (Levi's, aforementioned Borders, that lovely spa place where I got massages), but was happy to say hello to others (Swarovski, Lush, U-Relax, which isn't quite as spa-like, but still able to get those knots out of my back). But, hey, that's just what happens with time. Your food court has fed me countless times, whether a full meal (only place I could grab fast food... Thayer Street didn't have Chipotle or that Burger Company nonsense when I was there) or a simple snack, it was there. And the restaurants. Oh, the restaurants. It'd be scary to count the number of times I've eaten at your Uno's or your Fire and Ice (best one around!--much nicer than the Harvard Square one that's now closest to me) or your Joe's or even your Melting Pot (I remember when that first came in, how excited I was!). I REALLY hate this mall with the passion of the christ. The parking lot is BY FAR the stupidest thing I have ever seen in my life. What the CRACK is going on in there? And I have to pay for that joy? WHY was it set up that way WHY do you have to pay MORE for it + WHY can't I find my way out? I hate the escalators setup inside. I hate that the elevators only go to certain floors. I hate the massage people always trying to talk to you in the kiosks in the middle. I hate that there are 14 year olds swarming. I hate that the parking rate just went up. hate hate hate. SO MUCH HATE. But I just HAVE to go there sometimes... + sometimes I go for the occasional overpriced movie but honestly I avoid it when ever possible. I try to park on the street + will walk a mile than park in that web of a parking deck. There is also something else that happens in this mall that is sad + terrifying. If I use an escalator, why would I want to walk all the way around to the next up escalator? All they need to do is make each escalator have the same direction right next to it. It's stupidly simple to fix. Yet it remains the same. They need to tear this place down (horrible parking garage and all) and start fresh. It's either that or they should do something like color code the two parking garages. I never get lost and I was wandering for an hour (7 miles on my pedometer) just to find out I was in the entirely wrong garage. read more

The parking I can ALMOST deal with (after all, I only come here during the week and in the morning - so yeah, that's cheating! lol) But really drives me nuts are the kiosk vendors. My opinion of Providence Place has done the proverbial "180" over the years. Today, I view it as a necessary evil, but there was a time, a lifetime ago, when the place impressed me. Equipped with an improved appreciation for local boutiques and businesses, and tired of the labyrinthine you-know-what show that is the Providence Place parking garage situation, I tend to steer clear of the place. These days I pay a visit only when I need new makeup and don't want to wait for an online order shipment (Sephora); must satisfy my curiosity about footwear spied online (Nordstrom); or want to check out a retail chain's Little Rhody debut (Madewell, which I've yet to do). This is certainly a step up from the malls of my youth. Sad, forlorn Swansea Mall is all but wheezing its last dying breaths, its flagship stalwarts - Apex and Caldor - long gone. You'd better pack your pepper spray before heading to the Harbor Mall. And Silver City Galleria? I'm not even sure, does that still exist? And do we know anyone who has shopped there in the last five years? But it's a dizzying drop down from the shopping experience you'll have at any number of small, independent stores run by cool and friendly shop owners in Providence, and beyond. These days I'd much rather spend my hard earned money ensuring the success of places with selections that are well curated and well edited, by women that I know and would happily invite over for a glass of wine. I emerge from these types of places feeling like I'm truly helping the local economy, supporting my friends, and maintaining my individuality, rather than most closely resembling the mannequin in the window of White House Black Market. The final straw at Providence Place comes in the form of its denizens--more specifically, its late-night weekend denizens. I feel like a curmudgeonly old lady in saying this, but the teenagers who flock here and take over the third floor food court and cinema/Dave & Buster's region of the mall are probably the nearest we'll get to viewing actual demon spawn on planet Earth. Because of all this, my visits to Providence Place are restricted to preemptive strikes: always singular, solitary missions that can be carried out stealthily. read more

This place kinda reminds me of Copley or the Prudential Mall in Boston, but carpeted (odd) and in Providence. That being said, there are plenty of nice stores here and your typical mall stores (Spencer's, GAP, etc). I was happy they had an Orange Julius here, I was not happy it took about 10 minutes for my Strawberry Julius (there was a whopping two people in line ahead of me). I needed something to drink because it seemed like the mall was 97 degrees and I am always cold, I have no idea why you'd keep a mall so hot. People will want to leave! Anyway, I was here for about an hour to kill some time and was happy to get some exercise inside since Providence was about 20 degrees the day I went. It was packed for a Saturday afternoon. I was pretty surprised but I guess there is always going to be a big crowd in a mall on a Sunny Saturday. I'd come back only if I lived 10 minutes or less from here and I don't so I probably won't return. read more

It had such promise when it opened years ago, and now I only go there if I really really have to, which is becoming rarer and rarer. I have the same issues with this place that most people have: the parking blows and you have to pay for it blowing, the frakkin' punk-ass kids that have taken over the place, and the stupidity of the escalators. I have learned a little trick for dealing with the nightmare that is the parking garage, so that's not as painful as it used to be, but I still hate the whole concept of paying for it. So sad, Providence Place, that you've fallen so far. And I don't see the situation getting any better in the immediate future. I do like the Dyson airblades in the bathrooms though. read more

At first glance, I am surprised to see so many negative reviews of Providence Place but I completely agree with everyone who said the parking situation is terrible. It cost the mall a star in my review. It's not uncommon for malls to be overtaken by hoards of kids and/or moms, which seemed to be an issue for some people. I'm too impressed by the quality of the shops, the impressive array of restaurants, the movie theater, and design of the building to really be bothered by the foot traffic. Unless I suffered some sort of personal tragedy here like Marlena G. did, I would find it hard to give anything less than four stars to a spot that offers such a wide variety of things to do, including a Dave & Buster's. read more

This place is the perfect example of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. I love the amount of shopping this place has to offer. The anchor stores of Nordstrom, JC Penny, and Macys allows everyone to have a place to shop here, from rich to on a budget. The individual stores are pretty great too, I love the fact there is an Aveda, Body Shop, H&M, Francesca's, and a Crate and Barrel. It saddens me however with the closing of Borders. I hope another book store goes in. However, what destroys this place for me is the parking garage. Not offering a discount to people who dine, shop and watch movies at this place is so aggravating. If you go over three hours, expect to pay a big $5 to park. Sometimes I want to shop longer, but I leave earlier to avoid the fee. This makes me take my business to Seekonk and I finish up shopping at TJ Maxx. The shops on Westminster manage to get a discount for you if you show a receipt if you park at the Arcade garage. These are tiny shops for Pete's Sake! Why can't a mega mall do the same? I also do not care for the food court. The court area is often not the cleanliest and the amount of teens using this area as a hangout spot is maddening. So, parking, no bookstore, and a cruddy food court makes this good place a stinkhole that I put up with when I need to get makeup. read more

What? I can review the Providence Place Mall? Oh my gosh, I'm going to have a field day! Well, truly, I've experienced far better malls. This mall is as mediocre as it gets. Let's start with the selection. I'll say as a guy that there isn't much there for me that isn't super overpriced. I'm not into the super name brand stuff... I just want comfortable, durable clothes that look good. Can't they add a men's section of H&M or something? I'd actually go! Food court is really awful. The only two places with anything gluten-free are the Charley's (if you want a sandwich masquerading as a salad) or the Subway (if you want a sandwich masquerading as a salad). Of the two, only Charley's has good customer service. There used to be an Indian restaurant called Tadka India. It was really quite good. I enjoyed their food, as did anyone I knew who brought it up. It's a shame to see it go. Also, farewell to the Ben & Jerry's, which was quite delicious, but their customer service team was probably among the most rude I'd ever really worked with. The Nordstrom Cafe and the downstairs e-bar(?) are top notch, though. Especially that little coffee hub on the first floor at Nordy's. Their service is usually amazing. Parking... is a disaster. It's easy to get in and very difficult to get out. Prepaid for parking before leaving? Hope it doesn't expire before you actually make your way to the exit. Also, mall employees have to pay exorbitant fees for their parking passes, and when you consider the average retail employee makes something like $10 an hour and works 20 hours per week, their transportation costs are even more detrimental. The people who work at kiosks along the way are hit or miss, but when they miss, they miss pretty far. There's a shoe shining place there, and the guy working noticed I was wearing crummy boots and wouldn't leave me alone. I had actually just purchased, earlier that week, the stuff to polish and clean them up on my own. He wouldn't take no for an answer then said something very rude to me as I walked away from his kiosk. Dude, if I messed up my own shoe upkeep and you were nice, you could've had my business. The ground floor restaurants tend to be quite nice with long waits, although Joe's usually seats you pretty quickly (and is, by far, the best among them, while being less expensive than all but Fire & Ice. Go figure). Let's talk about escalators. I'm sure the genius architect assumed that by setting them up to make patrons walk around the stairs to get to the next level, they assumed more people would enter the stores nearby, and it would justify charging a premium on rent for those stores. First of all, they're mostly technology hubs like T-mobile and Verizon, so they aren't impulse buy locations. But secondly, they're inconvenient for the average patron who is typically a Rhode Islander and typically has been to that mall enough times to know where everything is. read more

I have a love/hate relationship with this mall. Parking is horrible. The parking layout is confusing, and because it is the cheapest parking in the area, many people come here and park for events at the Convention Center. I've been known to do it myself, but when I do, I don't park near the entrances to the mall, I guess because I'm a nice person. Also, if you do have a spot somewhat near the entrance, you will have someone wait for your spot as you're trying to maneuver out of the parking spot. This is one of my biggest pet peeves ever. I never use a kiosk to pay for parking because I almost always get lost trying to find my parking spot, as the parking is divided between "Cityside" and "Stateside." At least there is no more parking validation stickers! Yay! This mall does have a wide variety of shops, from Old Navy to Nordstrom, The Gap to Lucky Jeans. It is also home to Rhode Island's only IMAX Theater and Dave and Buster's. The mall gets crowded *really quickly* and you are constantly having to dodge the kiosk people asking if you want to try their new products. NO means NO! I avoid this mall at almost all costs during the Christmas season and if there's a 5k in the area, as parking will basically make you have a breakdown (I've literally cried in the parking lot from getting lost after a PBruins game) and there are just too many people. If you're there on a weekday night though, it's a great one stop mall, and the food court isn't that bad. read more

This used to be a pretty decent mall. What happened? I'm gone for 2 years, and it's turned to garbage. Every year I go shopping here the day after Christmas with my grandma, but last year we skipped it and opted for the boutiques of Newport. This past Christmas, however, we returned, and it had lost 80% of its appeal. A lot of stores have closed and re-opened with shitty replacements. Lame. read more

I like this mall for what it is and what it has to offer. Will you catch me shopping here? No effin way. I'm not sure if it's because about 5 years ago I decided to take on a part-time seasonal Christmas job at Newbury Comics and it was probably the single most awful experience of my life or, if I just hate people THAT much that I can't be bothered coming in here. I've never been much of a "mall" shopper - maybe when I was a teenager, but not anymore. I've definitely outgrown them and I become easily frustrated with the masses of people that it's better I don't be around them... or I might end up in jail. Again... great stores all around! There is something for everyone: The Apple store is here, Nordstrom, Banana Republic, Tiffany's, a movie theatre, GUESS, Godiva, H&M, Pottery Barn, etc. etc. etc. Also, quite a few restaurants, which for being located in a mall... aren't half bad. Providence Place Mall is definitely more upscale and the decor is really beautiful, especially during Christmas. Shoppers beware: the parking garage gives me agita. This monstrosity of a nightmare can be hellish, especially on the weekend or near the Christmas season. Be prepared to wait in lines to either find a parking spot or exit the garage. Also, be prepared to deal with a-holes - there are bound to be plenty of them around you at all times. read more

You get gang fights in the parking garage, drunk assholes surfing the escalator, and other bottom feeders like that. There must be a golden time when you can shop in peace. I haven't found it yet. Parking SUCKS ASS. No. Make that- Parking Sucks unwiped ass. Traffic around the mall gets gridlocked at times and can add an extra 20 minutes to even get to the parking entrance. I curse this mall every time I have to step foot in it; no, back up; every time I'm making a turn into the Parking Garage of City Planners on Crack. Because the other malls within a reasonable radius don't contain stores that actually sell items one would want, I feel pressured into going into this hellhole. The carpeting, not only the stupidest idea I've heard of in mall planning, whatever they use to clean the carpet, I swear, is toxic. I can name four other people who feel this way besides me- within 10 minutes of being inside the PPM, I begin to have a bit of trouble breathing. As time goes on, that sensation increases, along with a weird pain in my back and this spaced out, tired feeling. People actually die on the escalators. People have probably also died, and never been found again, trying to get from parking garage section T 13 3rd floor city side to the men's dept. in Nordstrom's to the Cheesecake Factory (big mistake, especially if you're already spaced out from the carpet fumes) and back. read more

I have not been to this mall in about 3 years and decided to try it again since a new retailer Boscov's had recently opened. Definitely, not even close to being worth it due to the 2 hours spent in parking garage traffic. No lie...close to 2 hours! I tried to call mall management, mall security and mall parking and received an automated message for each telling me the extension was not available. Based on the severe lack of traffic flow, it appears the parking garage never thought to simply open the gates and forfeit the parking revenue to protect the mall reputation. Many retailers have left this mall because of high rents and consumers choosing other friendlier options (i.e. consumers hate parking at this mall). I will not return in the future. read more

Mall (môl), noun: A boiling pot of rebellious teenagers OD'ing on sugar, collective mobs of infants screaming with the fury of a thousand Valkyries, 27 Yankee Candles, and an elevated funeral procession known as a 'parking garage'. Slap on some occasional gang violence and a Christmas rush touting every last-minute shopper in the state of RI and you've got Providence Place. General mall gripes aside, there's a good selection of small stores surrounded by your standard departments. The food court is an ever-changing hodgepodge of Chinese food, Taco Bell, Johnny Rockets and sandwich joints. This particular mall has the advantage of harboring the state's lone IMAX, along with a pretty decent standard theater (full bar for drunk Pixar movies - don't knock it 'till you try it). Since Warwick Mall skipped riding the arc and got flooded right into prosperity, I don't see the need to brave the crowds at PPM as much anymore. read more

I never enjoy a trip to this mall. Sometimes it is unavoidable, like holiday season, but I try to get in and get out as soon as possible. I recently moved to Providence but spent the last two years traveling here and have had the displeasure of going to Providence Place when I've needed last minute things. This overall customer service is TERRIBLE. I been here several times looking for specific things and the entire 2 hours I spent in this place NO ONE offered any assistance to me. Who designed this mall? Seriously, who? I have questions for this non-visionary: First, why would you put carpet in such a place? You've got heavy, heavy foot-traffic and a lot of disrespectful people who don't mind their food court leftovers spilling onto said carpet. What were you thinking? Also, two words: Parking garage. Was this travesty dreamed up by someone experienced in torture devices? Or perhaps...a three year old. Because honestly, it's one of the worst I've ever seen. Getting around here is tricky to say the least, dangerous at its worst. I'm also unclear why the escalators seem to always have the yellow wall around them indicating that yes, again, they are indeed broken. How is this possible with a multi-level mall and a hard-to-find elevator system? Please explain why there are a ga-jillion (accurate numbers, I promise) kiosks in this mall; every two steps I'm accosted by someone spraying something in my face, offering to wash my hands in dead sea salts, or asking me if I'd like to re-do my basement. It gives me a bigger stomach ache than some of the smells from the food court mentioned earlier. All this said, there are some decent stores and restaurants here. Most of the usual suspects show up (Gap, Macy's, etc) plus some higher-end treats (Nordstrom, IMAX movie theater). Melting Pot is a fun night out and Cheesecake Factory is a decent chain with a huge menu. If you need something, you can probably find it here and I guess that's worth a few stars. read more

Pros: - Great shopping options -- you are most likely to find what you are looking for. All the usual mall haunts are there. - Downtown location Cons: - The parking garage is HORRENDOUS. It is confusing and people act like animals when driving in it. AWFUL! It also stinks that the prices have changed. I actually park at the State House and walk down when I am visiting on the weekend. - The teenagers left unattended are rather obnoxious. - Why are there only chain stores and restaurants? - The escalators -- I understand they are set-up so that you have to walk by more stores. But that does not help when all you want to do is get to the movie theatre on the 3rd floor. Or you are at the mall for a specific item. But again, this is likely the purpose. Because it is in Providence and feeds the tax base of my city, I will continue to shop there. Just not at Christmas. It is tooooo nuts at Christmas. read more

Every time...escalator not workin, 50 people waiting at the only working pay for parking kiosk junky POS mall. this has happened every year we come to visit for the rock n roll marathon. the line snakes out the door of tired and frustrated runners (and mall patrons) trying to leave the parking lot. and again, only 1 working kiosk. ugh, this place drives me crazy. if it's this bad the one time a year we come, it must be horrible the rest of the year. read more

It's a mall. It's pretty big. On the upside, it has a Dairy Queen, a Body Shop, a Bed Bath and Beyond, an H&M, an Indian food place, and an Apple Store. It just got a Sephora and it will soon have a Lush. On the downside, it has a Newbury Comics, a Sony Style, a number of stores that exist solely to sell overpriced clothing to spoiled teenagers, some of the worst Chinese food I have ever eaten, and poorly-placed bathrooms. I'd been driving by Providence Place for years before finally visiting. I really wasn't missing anything. Thank god I went with a RI native or I never would have made it through the completely ridiculous parking garage. It does have a lot of stores that I like but the mall itself is just kind of meh and none of the stores are unique to this particular mall. Cons: It is carpeted. (yuck!) The food court is small. You have to go outside to get to the other restaurants listed as being in the mall. You have to pay for parking. You have to pay for parking by waiting in a really long line. Pros: You can grab an Orange Julius, sit on a bench, and be thoroughly entertained by people-watching. This may be the only reason for my returning to this mall. :) read more

This the perfect for high schoolers. I remember hanging out at the mall in my hometown at that age, wishing it was bigger so I could do some more window shopping. However, at my current age, I just want to buy and return just what I need and get out of there. Idiotically, my friend and I parked in the garage without noting which floor we were on. Oh my god, what a giant mistake. We looked for the car for 40 minutes. We parked on a level that you cannot get to via elevator. It's in between two floors that are accessible by elevator, so you have to go down or up a set of stairs to get to this level. Duly noted only after that long, long time frame. We walked around the mall and then went out for the WaterFire show later in the evening. No fire that Friday night, just an outdoor concert. It was awesome that it was free, but it was flocked with high schoolers and college students who were getting touchy feely. PDA everywhere. Not my neck of the woods. Nice mall but I find it overrated. Big as it is, not worth my time to stop by again. read more

I have SUCH mixed feelings about this place. I remember being a doe-eyed middle-schooler when this place opened up, and as a Rhode Islander, this place was a Big Deal (capital B, capital D). This was the Big Fancy Mall, doncha know. And it is, by Rhode Island standards. They have Nordstrom, Pottery Barn, Talbots, Apple, Brooks Brothers, and all of the trappings of the high-end malls. They've had some turnover with Lord and Taylor and a few other big stores, but for the most part, it's maintained an upscale edge over other shopping centers in Rhode Island. It has been a necessity that has brought good business to Rhode Island. It's clean, well-run, and Lord knows I love me some Dave and Busters. Now, the quagmire of the parking garage is a terrifying ordeal for anyone. I've noticed that other reviews echo this sentiment, and the last time I was there, I gave up and went home because they're rennovating the garage and I just couldn't deal (and I drive in developing countries, people). When the GA isn't in session, I just park at the State House--it's worth the walk. I'm not quite sure why in hell they think they can charge 2 dollars for THAT parking, but whatever third-party they've let manage that garage must have its reasons. It does get overrun by the teeny boppers, but that's the case anywhere. I would recommend a "no more than four" rule enforced by the security gauards a la Warwick Mall, but no one asked me, man. This is a tough one. What I like: There are so many great stores to choose from! They have 3 floors! The mall is very clean! Their food court is not horrible! What I hate: Parking I have to pay to park! Even if it is just a dollar, I should not have to PAY to park my car. Getting there is like hell! If you are on 95, it is way easier to follow the signs on the highway (very carefully) rather than your GPS. Punk-Ass kids running around thinking their cool. Gee, I wish I was that cool. Of course, this is a big mall, so it is the perfect place to judge people! Some of the fashions that Rhode Islanders have (specifically Providence) make me wonder if they know about mirrors! At least it's good for a laugh! I know for sure I will NEVER go to this mall during the Holiday seasons. I cannot imagine the hell that would be! read more

well lets start with the obvious , the parking sucks !! The floors of the garage are staggered with the mall floors with makes getting lost inevitable . the food court is huge but the seating available is for 1/10 th the amount of food vendors , makes no sense . i've been here 3 times and will never go back , the clientele is not the crowd i want to hang with . Many people come here with lack of anything better to do , which makes the mall and store busier than they need to be . The kiosk stores are way to pushy for your business . if they let you look a bit they might actually make a sale instead of chasing everyone away with the hard sell . read more

This was a nightmare. My care taker and I went to Mall Security. They asked for my ID and we explain the situation. They said it's their policy and must have my ID. Ok I have it them. Went up to ATT. Spoke to both an associate and manager. They said they must have my ID. We explained the situation and showed them the photo of my ID. They were not flexible with their policy. The only solution to this was for the ATT associate to go to security and see my ID. He did. He came back to the store and handled my business. But wait, now we had to return the wheel chair and get my ID back. So we go to security and ask if we could have my ID, my care taker wheel me to the exit escorted by a mall officer who could take the chair back to the office. Officer said no only two people on duty. Any other combination of wheel chair and ID return would mean leaving me alone at a mall exit which can't be done as I am a high fall risk. So we had the officer give me my ID, and leave the wheel chair forcing me to walk a considerable distance to the mall exit on wobly legs and great pain. I can't believe neither ATT nor security could waive their policy given my circumstances. read more

Holy Crap!.. IF I could give zero stars I would... first, I'm not talking about the vendor stores.. I'm just talking about the mall property itself, and the garage. Starting with the garage.. easy to get in, insane to get out. Always traffic exiting this damn place. And beware, some areas are one-way, others 2-way, but it's difficult to figure out which is which. Also, the pre-pay stations are NOT at every mall exit.. so if you want to pay cash, you need to either hunt for one of these, or drive down close to the exit and get out and pay cash there. You can only us a credit/debit card at the actual gate. The guys who designed this garage should be shot, castrated, then shot again. LOL. Next.. inside.. typical mall.. except for the escalators. For some reason, they are set so that in order to go up more than one floor, you go up one escalator, then walk around to the other side to go up again. Most NORMAL places have the escalators such that where one ends, you simply turn and go right up. Same for the way down. Just bizarre. There's also a bunch of restaurants that you can only access from outside. So if it's cold or rainy, and you want to park in the garage and eat in one of those places (eg, Fire & Ice, Uno) you have no choice but to go outside to get to those. Overall. I just don't get who designed this place. Just one screw-up after another. read more
