I have shopped at PDC on several occasions for gifts and for myself and love the selection - there are price points for everyone. It is a beautiful store and the David Yurman and Rolex selections especially can't be beat. I bought my husband a Rolex at PDC this spring and the customer service was amazing and the entire experience very special - there's a Rolex room where you are taken to try on watches if you wish and to finish the transaction. Joe helped us and he was very knowledgable about Rolex and watches in general. I've browsed the engagement rings and diamond earrings and the offering is gorgeous! After having the ring for 7 years, the stone recently became loose after I had dropped it on accident. I went to Providence Diamond Co a couple years ago in order to se jewelry for scrap gold as well as a couple loose diamonds. At that time I dealt with Daniel which was very professional, friendly and easy to work with. If I had written a review at that time it would have been a very positive review. Because I had had such a positive experience, I went back to the store this past Friday afternoon (9/19) and the experience could not have been more different. The problem wasn't with selling scrap gold - the price it what it is and they do weigh the gold in front of you. It was with the two loose diamonds. I knew they weren't the highest grade diamonds - but rather average grade diamonds. At first she gave me a reasonable offer for both diamonds but said she had to run it be the owner, Peter. She came back into the room and said that yup - the price she quoted me was correct. I was ok with that. Then unexpectedly she took the diamonds out of the room and came back and said no - they weren't interested in both, but only one and knocked $500 off the offer for that one pear-shaped diamond. I was shocked that they would engage in back room bargaining. I think if there were such issues with the diamonds, Peter should have had the courtesy to come into the room and explain his concerns. In short - I felt duped and stupidly (very very stupidly) went along with the deal. As an side, I brought the same pear-shaped diamond in two years ago and Daniel had appraised it at quite a bit more.. Then the saleswoman gave me some questionable advice about tanzanite and tanzanite jewelry. For one thing - they carry it so if it is so unpopular then why do they carry it? When I came home I checked on-line with some of the major auction houses and tanzanite rings and jewelry are selling quite well (for quality pieces in 18K gold with substantial diamond weight - which mine have). I feel they treat customers who may not look a certain way or act in a certain manner very poorly. They're snobs and feel the rest of the little people are just dumb. I will never ever walk in that store again nor recommend it to anyone for anything - unless you like being robber - don't go there. read more

I recently inherited my father's Rolex Submariner watch and wanted to get it appraised by an official Rolex Retailer and on on my insurance policy ASAP. Unlike some other Rolex retailers, this one will appraise a Rolex that was not purchased from them. Excellent! The staff was friendly and attentive from the second we walked into the store. Daniel, the owner, seated us in his office and promptly appraised the watch. My wife and I know nothing about Rolexes, and Daniel was more than happy to answer all our questions and give us all the time we needed to learn more about the watch. Last December, my wife and Children wanted to buy Rolex for me. We went to PDC. Sales people were ok ( Nothing great ) when they realized that we were a sure buyer, entire attitude changed. We were given all kinds of assurances about quality, service price policies and replacement/trade in policies. We were told very specifically that whenever we wanted to upgrade, we will be able to trade our Rolex in we will get at least the same amount for trade in value as long as we were buying a higher value Rolex. We bought a watch worth a lot of $. Come to find out after just 5 month I was interested in latest Rolex which is about 7k higher in value. I called 3 times and was given a run around and was told that they do not trade in any more and they will have to find out a secondary market for that watch which the sales person felt that I will never get what I paid for. I never called them back. I know I was not happy but they do not understand that they have lost a family as their customer who could have been a life time customer who spends a lot on watches and Diamond. Good that we learned our lesson on Rolex which will cost me about 2K ( Rolex do not lose value ). If you thinking of entering that store STOP and turn around. Not worth. read more

This is the first time I have EVER taken the time to write to Yelp so that others could possibly avoid the same outcome. I took my TAG diver's watch into them to have the battery replaced. I asked if it would be tested upon the new battery being replaced to enable me to dive with it once again. I was told that the person who did the work was professional and it would be good as new. However, that would be (because of the Christmas holiday) at least three weeks before it would be ready. I left the watch. Upon returning three and a half weeks later for the watch I was told " its not quite finished, but we'll have it ready if you'd like. I waited. twenty minutes later she handed me my watch directly out of the back room. They no doubt replaced the battery right then. No jeweler's rag wiping it clean or any service notable for a proper jewelry company. Thirty day's later the watch stopped. Luck would have it I hadn't gone diving with it. Upon taking it to the best watch shop in Newport whom I have had work done before, the battery was replaced and upon wiping it down and handing it to me, I was told the back was so loose he could unscrew it with his hands and not have to use the special plyers used for the task. Don't know who really reads these posts and normally I don't , but this was outrageous! The new battery was installed free upon telling him what I went through. They walk around in that shop like they're something special. Well, some of there product line is special, but the personnel and service stinks. read more

The same person waited on me again; I was the only customer in the store and was treated very condescendingly. There was no reason for this: I had been had cheated on a piece of jewelry bought elsewhere, but to treat me as a stupid person was beyond rude. I will not return to the store. I am in the process of replacing my engagement ring (I lost it :-( ) and since my husband and I happened to be in Garden City today we went in to see what services / rings Providence Diamond Co. had to offer. The store was moderately busy but not crazy and after browsing around for over 10 minutes and hanging around the engagement ring counter not ONE salesperson even acknowledged our presence in the store. I am a very patient person and I completely understand if the sales people are busy with other customers. However I do expect some sort of acknowledgment and a "I will be with you when I am done with this customer" or something to that effect. Apparently this store can throw away business because they were obviously not interested in finding out why we were there. I was greeted warmly as soon as I walked through the door and browsed the beautiful store until Suzanne helped me find the earrings I was looking for. She was so sweet and knowledgable that it made my visit such a pleasant experience! She also showed me some pieces she thought I may be interested in, as well as a upcoming new line that they will be selling soon! I will definitely be coming back to check this out. I feel the store is changing a few things to fit other clientele, like myself, who may want to check out some nice pieces of jewelry but not spend a lot of $$ for it.
