I have several watches that I used to wear all the time (before wearable fitness trackers and Apple watches entered my life), and decided I'd start wearing again. All 3 of them needed new batteries, so I figured I'd try the Speidel store, since it was so conveniently located for me. The store is attractively set up, with lots of windows and natural light a it's on a corner (no photos since the store clerk and I were the only ones in a modest space & it felt awkward to start snapping away before I asked for service). It has some really fun watches on display for sale, many of them priced under $50, and a nice collection of what they label "scrub" watches for nurses, with large and clear to read faces, for just about $30 each. They also sell replacement bands, which I didn't think I needed. I was told that one watch didn't seem to have a back that could come off, so the battery couldn't be replaced. I left my other 2 watches and went to run errands. When I came back, I got the bad new that they could replace only one of the batteries since the back on the other looked like it wasn't replaced correctly so it was wedged in. The clerk directed me to Saltzman's Watches in Cranston when I asked what I should do with those 2 watches she couldn't fix. So, 4 stars for a very nice store to stop in if you're looking to buy something that isn't a high end watch; closer to 3 stars for advertising repairs that they could offer in only a limited range of situations. read more

Living on East Side and having such a wonderful gem as Speidel watch in our neighborhood is refusing. Every time I go in they are professional but equally friendly and couldn't be more helpful. Unique to find have such an experience these days. I am from family owned businesses myself for generations and trust me it's hard work. I stopped by the Speidel store on Wayland Ave about a month ago to have my sons watch resized. I bought him a classic Casio G Shock wrist watch with a baby blue face and silver band for his birthday. Maggie greeted my son and I and was very nice and extremely pleasant. She complimented my son's taste in watches and even mentioned that her own son is into classic watches. Needless to say she made my son feel welcome and special which only contributed to his "incredible birthday"! His words not mine. I have a fairly large collection of vintage watches and I have had Speidel repair several of them. They provide you with a written estimate and stick to it-no surprises! The quality of mMatthew's work is excellent, and he has been able to source hard to find parts at a reasonable price. I also go to them for straps. Speidel have an extensive collection of straps and bracelets for almost every watch. I gave my mother, a retired nurse, a Scrubs watch. She loves it and wears it every day. read more

I came to Speidel hoping that they would be able to change the battery on a vintage watch I had gotten in London. From the moment I walked in the store, the customer service I received was first class and I was taken care of immediately. Specifically, Maggie was very, very sweet and knowledgable and answered all of the questions I had! Speidel has a great collection of watches and excellent personal service to help you select what is best for you. And they put in batteries in your current watches even if you hadn't purchased them there. Also the price is right! But the best part of the Speidel store is Maggie, the manager. Loved my first visit to the Speidel flagship store! Maggie and her son Gennaro were very prompt and helpful, and I thought they had a good selection of watches that are stylish, classic, and contemporary. They also offer engraving in-store, which they were able to do in about two minutes while I was looking around! All in all, I thought the experience and product are well worth the absolute bargain I got on my two watches. I have yet to actually be able to comment on a Speidel watch, but my recent experience with customer service on the telephone about a purchase was beyond frustrating. I am a reasonable person and was questioning the charge of shipping expenses for an exchange (among other things). However the treatment and tone that I was greeted with was far from understanding and pleasant. I felt far from valued as a customer and the conversation left me feeling desponded and fully depressed about the meaning of customer service. I wish I had never called. Speidel has definitely lost a customer here, and that has nothing to do with the quality of their watches. read more

*TLDR: THEY DON"T PERFORM SERVICES ON WATCHES* I get my haircut across the street from this store, and was excited when I saw the space built out to hopefully have a new place to get my collection serviced locally. Called the corporate phone number for the Providence store, and was informed that the "Speidel Flagship Store & Watch Repair Center", though not currently taking online clients, was accepting walk-in repair jobs. Decided to drive in that day and drop off my watch, and was told by the clerk in store with watch in hand, that "we do not perform watch services currently", and that I "should take my watch to Saltzman's in Cranston".. I called the corporate line back after, spoke to the same person who recommended I walk in, and they were also greatly confused by my interaction in store. Not sure what these folks are doing, but for a business to be 75% open air watch repair shop and 25% retailer, and not complete watch services, it seems the Speidel Flagship store will not last. read more

I absolutely love this place. I got a beautiful watch for myself and wife here and we now wear them constantly because they are so stylish and comfortable. The customer service was amazing. They swapped bands and watch faces for us so we could design the exact watches we wanted. They also special ordered a beautiful one of a kind necklace for my wife with our kids names engraved on it. Just ask and they will do anything to make you happy (including repairing my old watch with their in house watchmaker). Amazing little shop with a great watches and jewelry! read more
